We come here often, and it never disappoints. The food is amazing, the service is fantastic. The restaurant is spacious and welcoming. We’re never hurried thru our meals. There’s a bar area, outdoor seating and large inside dining areas. Tables are well spaced, lots of room for accessibility♿️They have a great menu - this time we had “snacks” - cauliflower, calamari and guacamole. Lots of healthy options. They also had some very pretty drinks. Make sure you check out the delightful little drink menu/booklet!Meter street parking.

Holidays in Manhattan means a stop in at The Ellington. We do not come often and this was our first time since they moved from The Amsterdam location. What an Upgrade! We went there on a Sunday and was rewarded with a Brunch Menu. What a treat. The atmosphere was casual but Manhattan Elegant softly in the background with a piano and conversations from around the restaurant. Still, it was easy to have our own intimate time just my wife and me. We just concluded a wonderful family Christmas and had a few hours alone.First thing our waiter, Nahid, noticed we were holding hands. He shared stories with us of other customers, painting a lovely picture of romantic afternoons at the restaurant. Nahid was great letting us have a quiet brunch but also never feeling neglected. The menu was terrific. Just the right number of selections to keep the selection process to a minimum. Each option was described well and the chef delivered on each of these promises. The picture below does not begin to describe what the chef prepared. The flatiron steak was cooked perfectly and delivered at an equal temperature to the table. Eggs are hard to cook to order but I could not have done better myself. My meal came with fries. I could pass them up except there was a vessel of gravy that needed to be eaten. No way would I put it over my perfectly prepared flatiron. The gravy was drinkable, but my wife would have frowned on that so french fries to the rescue. My wife chose the short rib blue cheese benedict. I am not fond of blue cheese but I so enjoyed the bite I was able to negotiate from her. Highly recommended even if blue cheese is not your bag.We accompanied our meal with a bottle of prosecco with juice from an orange and cranberries. Ordinarily we would not mix juice with sparkling wine but why wouldnt you spruce up prosecco!Back to the atmosphere. There were decorations of the season artistically arranged around the piano but taking away, somewhat, the view of The Ellingtons magnificent bar. Friendly people tending the bar with a menagerie of bottles, glasses and bows (stealing a bit from Dr. Seuss) at the ready for Seasons Greeting or a Seasonal Beverage. The piano player brought everything together with familiar melodies reminding me of other great times with my wife and family and of course in this great city.Come one, come all (plagiarizing again) to The Ellington. You will not be disappointed.

From the host, to the waiters, to every person who works here, they were super nice and helpful. My husband and I order the Ellington burger and it was delicious. The downside note it was that I was very disappointed because wasn’t aware that they only serve brunch menu (10-4pm) on weekends, so I came for the normal menu (that I saw online) and well, we couldn’t have it. I don’t recall seeing this )but maybe that’s because my adhd). So anyway, I’m including a picture so you are aware. Beside that. The place was beautiful, and again, food & people well very nice. 5 stars! Just keep in mind what I said about brunch menu if you are looking for something else.

We hosted our wedding reception at The Ellington in November 2022. First of all, Glenda, the owner, and Koren, the event manager, are incredibly kind and so easy to work with. Our initial venue cancelled on us 100 days before our wedding, the Koren and Glenda worked with us to put together a beautiful night. The space is so beautiful, and we received so many compliments on the food. Our guests kept telling us it was the best food they’ve had at a wedding. And the drinks were SO good. I cannot recommend hosting an event at The Ellington enough. We will definitely be back as regular guests for dinner and brunch.

Such a special spot! Large and expansive with a lot of fun decor to check out around the walls and restaurant. They also have a lovely outdoor seating area if you want to dine al fresco. The bost, servers, and waiter were so kind and accommodating and really made us feel great. We ordered quite a lot of things and liked pretty much all of it. I had the butternut squash ravioli which was good but I think could have used a bit more of a flavor punch (a bit sweet on the butternut squash). But all in all the things we ate here were nice. They had a big grand piano in the restaurant but they didnt have live entertainment the night we dined -- would love to come back and see if they do in fact put it to use!

Had a pretty awful experience here for dinner starting with the host greeting our party. The older gentleman talked down to our group before seating us. That should have been our red flag to walk away but we were so hungry we stayed. The restaurant seemed to be understaffed because our the waiter was covering many tables service was slow and we were able to get more water or drinks. Our water carafe was also dirty which was grossThe food was just alright, the pizza ordered was burnt on the corners and the burgers were good. The fries were subpar

We had a bottle of Pinot Noir, Burrata, Prosciutto Flatbread, the Potato gnocchi and a 10oz special steak that was available. We enjoyed the decor and music Taylyn was our server and she was knowledgeable, excellent, and friendly. Thank you for the amazing dining experience. Well gladly come again.

Last night we had the most amazing dinner at The Ellington! We were a large group and everyoneraved at the end of the night about how perfecteverything was…we all cant wait to go back! Tostart, we ordered a bunch of appetizers for thetable. One was better than the next...calamari isalways a fan favorite. The drinks of course did notdisappoint and were kept full by the most attentiveand friendly wait staff. The salmon I ate wasperfectly cooked and delicious as well as myhusbands fish tacos. What I would have neverknown is that the building in which the restaurantresides is so rich in history! The owner made sure to come to our table to enchant us with the stories of what once was. It was so wonderful to go out to eat and not only enjoy the company with great friends but we also were so grateful for the warm and welcoming experience. Looking forward to checking out brunch!

Our table reservations were right before the kitchen closed, but the staff was extremely accommodating and helpful for getting our order in. I ordered a beyond burger with sweet potato fries and an amaretto sour. As a table, we shared a bottle of prosecco and the staff brought out champagne for a champagne toast. I visited the Ellington as a visitor from out of town, and the food was not great but fine. Without ordering a complete meal -- a salad for me and a tuna appetizer for my daughter plus one dessert -- we were charged $60. That is like having two $30 meals. No alcohol. Just two diet cokes and a cup of hot tea. Even by NYC prices, this seemed high to me. The service wasnt bad, nor was the food, though the raw tuna tasted like it had sat in a refrigerator for a while. I was so surprised by the price I stopped by the restaurant the following morning to confirm. They were none too pleased. Sixty bucks was correct. And neither of us had a meal. I will take a pass the next time I am in town.

Superb experience at the Ellington! The atmosphere was nice and quiet on a Friday afternoon 12:30 and the server was excellent. The prices have increased but the quality and taste of likewise the Ellington Burger and the molten lava cake have always been incredible. The burger is the second best burger I have ever had in my life; just incredibly juicy and tender with the ham and creamy and perfect sauce. Always recommend medium rare. The fries were nice but personally I dont like them that thick and not that crispy. The cale tasted like a michelin star cake; just melts in your mouth and the sauces add a lot of flavour. The steak sandwich was also extremely tasty and juicy. I am obsessed with this place ever since my mom introduced me to it many years ago.

I visited The Ellington while in New York City with my husband and brother in law. I must first say that management was extremely attentive, I believe her name is Cherry. She kept checking in on us, asked about the food and service. Her attention to detail with her staff and the guests at the restaurant is something that you dont see everyday. Even though it was a holiday weekend, she made it a point to interact with as many of her customers that she could, and when we were ready to leave, she thanked us for coming. We told her we would be back and would tell EVERYONE to come and experience the restaurant. One of the BEST experiences with a manager of a restaurant in NYC that I have ever had. Definitely coming back and have already told others about my experience. Top tier service!!!!!

A few weeks ago, I had the absolute pleasure of dining at this amazing spot in NYC, and it turned my birthday into a memory I’ll cherish forever. From the moment I stepped inside, Maggie and her team made me feel like family. Their warmth and genuine care set the tone for an evening that felt both relaxed and special.Every dish was crafted with such care and attention—fresh, vibrant flavors that spoke to the heart. Each bite was a delight, and the way the plates were presented made them almost too beautiful to eat. The atmosphere was everything I love in a restaurant: cozy, inviting, and full of that unique NYC energy. For anyone looking to experience a true gem in New York City, this is the place to go. I’m already looking forward to my next trip back just to visit again. Highly recommend it to anyone seeking incredible food, heartfelt service, and an atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile.

The Ellington is far and away me and my partners’ favorite neighborhood spot. Last night we celebrated 13 years of being in each others’ lives, Curtis and the waiting staff ensured it was magical. We were warmly greeted at the door and given a cozy table in an alcove. Completely unbeknownst to us, Curtis had organized champagne to start off the meal. Following this we had a burrata for our appetizer and skirt steak frites as well as braised short rib for our mains. Everything was delicious. We finished the night with the molten lava chocolate cake accompanied with a sparkler provided by Curtis to celebrate the occasion.Thank you again to everyone at the Ellington for last night, we can’t wait for music filled Sunday nights this winter and brunches outside this spring.

TLDR: Go here for a decent drink/cocktail and light bar fare. Brunch is also good.Longer review: good bar and brunch menu with most items moderately priced. The cocktails are decent, but lack the flourish that I think theyre trying to present. The beer selection needs higher IBU beers. The bars food menu is great, but straying off of it (to dinner in our case), the food was not as good. The tuna tartare was so cold it didnt present flavor (and wasnt really seasoned either), and the other dishes my party ordered were nothing special. It IS a good neighborhood spot and Ill continue to patron it for the bar drinks/fare, but I likely wont take out-of-town guests here unless I know theyve changed their other menus.Update: went back for brunch and the food was good, but our waiter was incredibly inattentive. Upon arrival the host was fighting with two ladies because they were rushing them for some other reservation while the restaurant was almost empty (3:30pm). Our waitress was ok but we requested some light sweet cocktails like mojito. They made us something so bitter (and with gin instead of rum!) So we sent it back. The Cosmopolitan was all alcohol, nothing sweet. The peanut butter and chocolate waffles looked and tasted just as plain waffles, seriously. It was very very disappointing as its an expensive place. All in all the service was ok, but nothing great, food tasted ok except for those peanut butter/choc waffles. The rooms are very nice, the bus boys were good ans the space between the tables was comfortable too.

Review №68

Wow this was a horrible disastrous and expensive scam of a thanksgiving, extremely disappointing.Tldr: I had family from out of state wanting to spend thanksgiving at a fine dining restaurant. Due to reservation issues we were going to the world trade center restaurant, (that place not only is beautiful and cool but, the food is not only inexpensive for Manhattan but really good), we last minute got a reservation at the Ellington. By last minute I mean weeks before thanksgiving as the Ellington you really need to book months in advanced. Now before I trash it I will give it a reasonable context of the situation. It was thanksgiving and it was very busy but not like super booked with a line outside. Here goes the cons. The restaurant is not a fancy or high end looking place at all. It looks like most Manhattan corner diners or cafe with the awnings and your average seating arrangements. We were not only on time but when we arrived first they couldnt find our reservation. when found we had to wait outside in the 40 degrees and below weather because they were not ready although we had the booking for a while at that point. When they said they were ready they gave us the worst table and the service was horrible. Our table was basically near the entrance of the kitchen but we couldnt get anyones attention or service. In other words service was just horrible. So as soon as we sit we have the waiter give us the menu and before we could even look at it, they already pushed to order. When food was sent out they literally threw the food on the table. I had better service at McDonalds when they have the table service option.I personally had the ravioli and the rest had turkey plate while the 2 kids had other things. My ravioli were only 4 squares as although the cheese and seasoning was good for 70 dollars per head you have to be kidding me. Gordon Ramsay would probably throw that in the trash and call the owner a stupid donkey. The appetizer was however pretty good, it was chicken dumplings and we had mostly the pumpkin cheese cake which was probably the best tasting dish but it was small as hell with like a dot of ice cream and overall it wasnt worth the money.Aside from that we had to fight to get service. My family are not from NYC so they politely tried to flag down a waiter one because the didnt give my little niece a steak knife when she ordered steak? , didnt give my cousin pepper and my cousin in law had asked for a drink she literally had to wait 30 minutes or more. So because Im from NYC I went to the kitchen and had them give me a knife and made a waiter bring us pepper. It became so ridiculous my cousin had to talk to the manager who finally had his wife get her drink via the manager. They also were prioritizing a table behind us because they were 10 people which had the 90 dollar per head special. However due to drinks and other orders we paid over $700 for subpar food and horrible service. My cousin was really disappointed because supposedly the Ellington was the best restaurant for a thanksgiving day dinner, but tbh a Chinese buffet would have been better and it is far from fine dining.I dont know maybe the last owners had the top notch food and reputation but this place is horrible for what you get. Granted the food was ok at best but I would definitely look elsewhere for fine dining. It was so bad the manager gave us a voucher but like after spending over 700 bucks a hundred bucks voucher stings on top of it all.Im not a chef but I wouldnt be surprised if my ravioli were frozen aka fresh frozen and not home made fresh or I have been watching too much kitchen nightmares. (Had to make a joke after our experience).....

I had a reservation for two at 6:15 outside and though there were many set and available tables, the host insisted that my friend and I stand around outside, even when I asked again to be seated and it was past 6:15. I was looking forward to a relaxing drink on the terrace, not standing on the sidewalk waiting like a supplicant for permission to sit down. Very rude and unwelcoming. We went elsewhere and will not be back any time soon. Too bad.

Went for a quick breakfast after coming back from the park, i was pleasantly surprised by the steak and eggs. Ample portion size, delicious and succulent steak topped off with sunny side up eggs and enough fries to indulge in, it was a perfect Neal to set me up for another day of pottering around NYC. Service with a smile made the experience all the more familiar and enjoyable.

Without previous recommendation we waltzed right into this upper west side music spot around 1030-11. Friday night, live band, maybe a touch to loud but it gave them their spunk as they filled the room with 90s hits. Low key which was surprising as the happy hour runs from 10 to midnight. Upon ordering the Quinoa Salad, it seemed as if the sous was so proud of it that he brought it out himself. Combine that with the Bacon Brussel sprouts and you have yourself a reasonably healthy meal. Changes in our drink order were no problem for the server who seemed adept in dealing with things on the fly. Overall, it was a great experience.

Im giving the Ellington 5 stars. I didnt love my drink- but thats on me for stepping out of usual. The salad was fresh and perfect. The shrimp dumplings and calamari were excellent. The shrimp and scallops with lemon couscous were BEYOND amazing. This trip started at the bar while I waited for my daughter. The bartender was very attentive and helped make suggestions. The waiter and staff were highly attentive and noted she had been traveling and had the sense of mind to seat us in the back of the restaurant in a quiet area. Its soft touches like this take restaurants over the top for me. Ellington will become my mainstay when Im uptown on the Westside. The ratings on Yelp and Google are authentic and well-deserved.

Misleading specialsWe live in the neighborhood and The Ellington used to be our go-to spot. However, after being mislead and taken advantage of, we are not so sure if we will be returning. We last ate there last night (a Tuesday). On their menu, Tuesdays special is 1/2 priced wine by the glass with the purchase of an entree. Sounded great. After each ordering the Ellington Burger ($16.50), we also each ordered 2 glasses of wine. When the check came, the wine was listed as full price. We kindly grabbed our server, thinking it was a simple mistake, and asked her to correct the price to 1/2 off since it was Tuesday night and they were running the special. She quickly mumbled, burgers are not an entree and scuttled away. We then asked to speak with a manager, and, conveniently, none were on site. It seems silly that a $16 cheeseburger, that comes with a side, would not be considered an entree. Theyre certainly not an appetizer or dessert. So, instead of getting a deal, we got played. Not the best way to treat frequent customers. Be weary of their menu wording and lack of management when needed.

These are notes for me. Might not make sense to others.Ordered:1) Grilled Octopus (Appetizer) => seasoning, vegetables and octopus combination was spot on. 5/52) Tempura Cauliflower (Bar Snacks) => Great fusion between Japanese tempura and the sriracha and herbs. 5/53) Elington Burger => Just ok. Server did not ask how we wanted burger (we forgot to request as well). Burger came out well done and dry (1/5).4) Molten Lava Cake and Lime Sorbet => both were good. hit the spot.Ranking vs other QSRs:1) Food => In general, food was great for a local restaurant. Prices for the UWS is very reasonable. Worth the stop by for the food. 5/52) Service => Friendly staff but not well trained. 3/53) Atmosphere => Fun and well maintained. I would definitely come here for breakfast / lunch / dinner or just to hang out at the bar. I like the throwback scene to the 1940s. 5/5.Would I go back? Definitely going back. Little knicks and knacks I didnt like but atmosphere is fun, pricing is friendly and food is generally very good.

I enjoyed my brunch meal here - the braised pork toast with spicy hollandaise. And the service is excellent, and the prices good by NYC brunch standards. But my family was less than pleased. First, the eggs benedict florentine (second photo below) had an unnecessary spinach-infused hollandaise sauce that doesn’t taste much like hollandaise at all, and isn’t explained on the menu (we had to ask for some of the real stuff on the side). And the salmon eggs benedict had smoked salmon that was a little too fishy - lox would have been much better. The steak and eggs (pictured) were pretty good, but not super special. We really wanted to love this place, especially since the kids walked past here to school for two years.

The Ellington is my go to spot when I’m in the city. The wait staff are superb and the atmosphere is designed for those who either want to be “grown and sexy” and/or just hit up an after work chill spot. It’s rare to be able to mix those two types of vibes with success, however the Ellington does this with ease. Also, Im huge on cleanliness, which I never worry about with this establishment. The food is tasty and never disappoints. This last go around I had the burger and fries (just had taste for a burger this particular day) :) The burger was seasoned very well and the fries were a smash! I almost asked the waitress to bring more fries, but I was trying to be on my best behavior. To top everything off, the waiter recommend the pumpkin cheesecake with the vanilla ice cream to complement. I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin, but this was surprisingly ridiculously good. It was so good that I had it twice! (Guess I failed at being on my best behavior). If you’re in the city, drop in. You won’t be disappointed. Parking like anywhere in the city can be a challenge, but if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to find parking right in front of the restaurant.

I want to start off with the positives: the food, service, and ambiance were all great. Zero complaints there. So why 3 stars then? The bathroom cleanliness and the lack of follow up from management, despite me reaching out multiple times. To make a long/drawn out story short: I noticed a cleanliness issue in their mens bathroom (sparing readers the gross details). It was obvious this issue had occurred long before I got there and no one bothered to clean it up.So that same day, I looked up their contact information, wrote them an email about the issue. About 6 days went by with no response. That annoyed me. So I called and spoke with a manager (Sherri/Sherry). She said shed look into the issue and get back to me within a day or so. Another 5 days has gone by with no response. And I have zero confidence anyone is going to follow up with either my email or my phone call.

Very tasty food and awesome service. Shoutout to our waiter Fernando! We visited for brunch on a Saturday **Long review alert...--Food: I had the Nova with scrambled eggs (instead of the poached egg... Im not a fan of poached eggs) and it was delicious. My fiance had the steak and eggs-also amazing. Flavorful and cooked as requested. I recommend the sweet potato fries. We had had them as an appetizer.--Drinks: lots of unique options at a very reasonable price, specially for Manhattan ($14 for cocktails). I had the Duke, which was a perfectly balanced with the right amount of sweet and slightly bubbly. It was beautifully pink and girly. My fiance had some classics (vodka club, Jack and diet) which were also great. We got a nice extra, Irish coffee... delicious.--Service: Our waiter, Fernando, was awesome! Attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, ready with recommendations. The manager Maggie and owner Glenda are super welcoming and kind. We are considering this location for our wedding and they kindly showed us around.--Ambiance: romantic decor, with a touch of industrial modern. Large windows, great lighting, lots of flowers, with red highlights. Perfect for pictures, on any season.--Music: We visited on a Saturday for Brunch. They had a Dj and the music was popping with classic 80s. Im talking Prince and Queens kinds of vibe. Music level was perfect. Loud enough to hear, low enough to comfortably have a conversation. We were told that live jazz happens on Sundays, and Im willing to bet its probably awesome.---Overall: do yourself a favor and visit. You wont regret it.
