Dive Bar

I have been coming to this place with friends for a couple of years when we want a casual place to shoot the shit and have a drink. Typically we have a decent time.However, tonight my friends and I came in early in the evening after celebrating our friend’s birthday. We minded our business but nonetheless a few patrons at one table decided to start hooting and hollering at us and making comments about how we all looked, unsolicited. We immediately decided to leave because we didn’t want to deal with any of that after an otherwise good night.This would have all been completely forgettable IF one of the bartenders hadn’t followed us out of the bar to accuse us of harassing the customers. He threatened to call the cops on us if we didn’t leave, even though we were already on the street and leaving.Needless to say we won’t be back. As others have said, this bar is nothing special, and dealing with hostile customers and staff isn’t our idea of a good night.

An important neighborhood establishment. A rare bar where different age/social groups commingle, hard to feel out of place there. Food is definitively above average, they do great things with mussels making it rather singular in that its a dive bar where you are more than on point getting seafood.

Fun, casual place to get a drink. Nice to sit outside there when the weather is nice. Decent beer list. Definitely a barman bar. Food looks better than it tastes - order it as an accompaniment to your drinks...

Honestly, I was very impressed with the food. Better than I thought Id get at a dive bar. And a large selection. I was also very impressed with the vegan options for my friend. Definitely going to start eating out here more often.

2404 Pub with interesting menu. Solid 4.On the fluffier and sweeter side than the traditional firm pretzels (my preference) but tastes good— imagine a brioche knit with salt. Slightly too oily. Quite expensive at almost $18 for just a pretzel but it’s such a phenomena and fun to share :3Buffalo wings taste good too.Can be crowded and busy on game days.

Came to dive bar on a weeknight at 11 pm because it was one of the very few places that had outdoor seating and was still open at that time in the neighborhood. We were seated outside but it took some time before the server came with waters for us. Got the dive bar burger and the everything wings. We were almost served some other partys food at one point. When the food finally came, the fries that came with the burger were cold (they had so much potential to be delicious though because they had that crispy coat to it). Burger was pretty good, I was a pretty big fan of the bun and the patty was cooked well. The wings were perfectly crispy but lacked some flavor (perhaps a little more salt wouldve helped?). While there were a few hiccups in the overall dining experience, dive bar met my needs for a super late dinner.

Not one TV showing the live Mets game in the UWS and I asked! I guess bowling ROLLS supreme.

The food was okay. We had the chicken fingers, fries, onion rings and lobster mac and cheese everything was pretty decent except the onion rings they were flavorless. We sat outside and the table was slanted so our drinks literally slid off the table twice. We told the waitress and she said well you could always sit inside at a booth lol.

So many great draft beers! Seriously. The service was very good and at the.outside seating we had multiple friendly dogs to pet. Definitely going back.

We went in during happy hour and enjoyed the $5 burgers and $6 loaded hot dog. The food was fresh; the garden salads veggies were crisp. Cant beat $3draft beers. I was pleasantly surprised to find this good quality food at these prices. Its a dive bar with good food and friendly staff. One of the few affordable bars in the upper West side of NYC.

Dive Bar was by far my favorite dining experience during my stay in NYC. The menu had many NOLA inspired dishes and a huge beer selection. I had the tomato soup and muffaletta pretzletta. The half sandwich portion was very large and easily enough for 2 people. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. The environment was fun and comfortable.

Recently, at Dive Bar on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, I got a lovely hazy IPA and an absolutely incredible Guinness beef stew that rivaled my grandparents home cooking. The Rye whiskeys were on the house from Lee, the Best bar owner in NYC! If you are looking for a pub forward dining experience in terms food, Dive Bar is an excellent choice. Lee is always adding both innovative recipes and classics with a twist to the menu. You won’t be disappointed!

Stayed at a hotel near by. Stopped here a few times for cocktails and a snack randomly. Everything was good, better than normal, except the mussels! They were outstanding, holy sh*t!!! Fresh as it gets! Could’ve eaten them all night !!! Kinda did 🤦🏻‍♂️. Great food and drinks

A great bar with lots of variety of draft beer. Great service, a good atmosphere with reasonable prices. Monday to Friday netween 16.00 to 19.00 there is happy hour. They serve food as well. Try if you are around.

This is your neighborhood bar where everybody knows your name. Its really like going to Cheers. Theres always something going on the people are super friendly and the food and drinks are great with reasonable prices and good value for your money. If youre in the Upper West Side stop in at dive bar for a good meal at a decent price, great service and a great atmosphere.

Good craft beer selection. Small place not a lot of seats. They have Alchemist Focal Bangers for 10 bucks 👍👍👍

This place is awesome. Dont come here though, itll lose its charm. 🤣Great beers on tap, places to sit, awesome food, but it gets filled up tight, so its definitely a locals only or people who are down to be a foot away from the table nearby.Dont bring that bridges and tunnel attitude and youll be fine.

Elite tier bar with great atmosphere, plethora of TVs and one of the best bar menus in the city. Staff do a great job holding down a bustling spot and being very attentive. Glad to have it as my local!

Not the most romantic atmosphere and the bathroom could be cleaner, but it has a good neighborhood vibe with the best selection of whiskey in the Upper West Side. They have multiple bottles of hard to find whiskey(bourbon) to sample like weller 107 and blantons for petty good prices! The fries are crispy and the mussels with a beer special is my goto favorite

The real deal. Simple, authentic New York neighborhood bar. Extensive menu, great food, good selection of beer and scotch.

Great bar with good food and a decent selection of beers. The mussel+beer deal comes with a ton of mussels. Taking a star off for false advertising on the deal - the paper at each table says a Belgian beer (suggesting any Belgian beer), but your only real option is a can of Stella

This is easily one of my favorite joints on the UWS. They have a really extensive menu (both food and drafts!), everything is always great - service and quality! I love their staff, especially Jesse. It’s clear the owner Lee is invested in his business and truly loves the place. It’s definitely my “Cheers”. Love Dive!

Do not order the Buffalo wings!! You’ve been warned. The were deep fried in a thick floury coating and steamed? The steam was still riding from them when served. They were soggy, mushy and oddly sweet tasting. The nachos were meh. The server was lovely and fast and efficient. My cosmos was well made. But those wings man. You would think a sports bar would do wings right. But no. It was a fail.

Great atmosphere for hanging out with friends and neighbors. Not only will you find a huge drink menu, including craft beers youve never heard of before but will most certainly want to try, but youll also find a great food menu as well. The establishment prides itself on just how good the food is! A must visit place in a terrific neighborhood thats easy to get to even if youre not on the upper west side.

Dive bar truly captures an authentic atmosphere with its dimly lit interior and lively crowd. Along with the great selection of draft beers and nice service, its a great spot in this neighborhood. Highly recommended!

Good bar, though sometimes very crowded, with a great beer selection and possible growler fills (havent done yet). The prices were fair. Good for watching sports games. Our waitress was generally very attentive and paid attention to when our drinks were running low. Will go back, with my growler.

What more can you say about a place called dive bar? I only drank draft beer ,( they gave a great selection! ) And had fried pickles. Was a fun experience and not far from central park.

The “smash burger” was a regular burger and smelled like BO. The onion rings had zero flavor and the waitress had a really judgy reaction to our drink orders. Really hot in the back.

Five star service. Food looks great and good portions. But they could be a couple bucks less per plate. Happy hour prices on the drinks are good. The drinks are good! I live on the upper west side. This place is close to me. Will be going again. Recommend the Nachos. Huge plate.

Waitress brought their “something to dive for” chips and they weren’t seasoned. She argued. Replaced them with another batch of plain chips then threatened to kick me out when I showed her the chips. lol

I go here at least once a week. Great neighborhood bar. All day breakfast is awesome, but I feel like if the wait staff told me their names Id feel more at home.Lobster Mac and cheese is glorious (and shareable). Tons of good beers, decent liquor selection.

Came during the Tyson Paul fight. Food and atmosphere were ok. Service was overstretched and couldnt cope with the demand. They missed our order once, left us without water and kept us waiting a lot for food.

Solid choice for a variety of craft beer and creative food to pair. Watch their calendar for tap takeovers. The owners are extremely friendly and regularly make the rounds to check on you. Excellent service with personality and a smile.

Great place to enjoy delicious pub grub and a great selection of craft beers and other fairly priced alcoholic drinks. Atmosphere is very lively and comfortable at the same time. Lovely and attentive staff but Erin is my favorite!!! Highly recommend this place.

The service is good, the food is exactly what you want if you want bar food. Basically if you like loud, college style bars with bar food and a good beer selection, this place is for you. If you dont (like me), this place can still be tolerable, which makes it an absolute gem when I am forced to go to such bars by my friends.Edit/response for Dive Bar owners: Different people like different styles of bars. I know a lot of people love loud bars like yours (including many of my friends). Kudos to you all for hitting your niche and and still having a solid environment for those outside of the niche.

This place has a really nice alcohol selection. The had at least 20 beers on tap including punkin ale. The food was pretty good, but the bartender forgot to put my order in, so I sat around for half an hour before I asked him what the deal was. I got my meal 5 minutes later, and for the trouble the bartender took the last beer I had off my tab.

Great selection of beer. Nice staff. Very close to the red line of the subway. Ive been there several times. Iiked all of them. Kitchen closes around midnight. It has loud music, but not live music. Nice and safe neigbborhood.

Great lively atmosphere. Friendly and efficient bar tenders. About five different wine options on tap. The chicken caesar salad was really tasty. Only critique is that for a dive bar, the drinks seem a bit on the pricy side.

I had previously given this bar 2 stars because its loud and service is slow. They seem to start raising the volume of the music at around seven. Why do bars do this? The extra star is because $5 wine at happy hour is a good deal, and the large plate of fries is the most fries ever.

We ordered appetizer and main course, but got everything at the same time. beside that, the food was good and the staff was pretty friendly and accommodating. Also, the place it’s open late, which is a good option to have in the neighborhood.

After starting at another bar had we quickly left, we found dive bar and then stayed the rest of our night. This is an awesome place with great decor, friendly staff, tons of selection, and the best Guinness Ive ever had. If you like fun, go to dive bar; if not then I feel sad for you

Cute and effective bar! Dropped in with two friends after an event. Spacing was a bit tight but then again, its Manhattan. I ordered a burger and fries with two glasses of wine while my friends had blue long islands. Food was decent, drinks were fine, waitress was sweet, and the ambiance was cool! No complaints here and if Im ever in the neighborhood, I would definitely drop in for a bite and drink. Be aware though, the security/owner does ID you! No complaints from me as Im in my 30s and found it as a bit of a compliment! BUTTTTT.....since having had a front row seat (only available seating was a table right by the door) and being able to witness that EVERYONE regardless of how old you looked was IDd.....I thought it was important to mention. Either way, have no fear....still a cool bar!

Great uptown spot for craft beers and trivia in a no frills environment. Havent been brave enough to eat anything here given the UWS has far better options for that.Im a sucker for fish tanks so it goes without saying that having one as the centerpiece of the bar is a plus in my book.Do be sure to take some of the free candy theyve got lying around if thats your thing.

Sports bars arent really my thing, but this place is excellent

Despite the steep price of nearly $18 per pretzel, its unique allure and appeal make it a must-try experience worth sharing. Buffalo wings also provide a tantalizing taste sensation. Expect bustling crowds, especially on game days.

TERRIBLE SERVICE. The waitress was rude. She messed up our food order. Did not bring us napkins. Over charged us by claiming everyone had 2 rounds of drinks and then called us a liar when we called her out on it. When she brought out the food she tried to hand it to my friend who had his phone in his hand. She took the plate and wiggled it in front of his face instead of just putting it on the table in front of him. He was confused and tried to move his hand out of the way and she almost dropped the plate on his lap. She got angry at him and told him to put his phone away. We are not coming back and I would suggest no one else come back until they figure out how to treat customers the right way.

This place is the best. The food is excellent, but the vibe is what really makes this place stand out. It nails the divey feel youd expect from a place called Dive Bar, but with the friendliest service ever. We felt like it was our neighborhood bar, despite only popping in for some food and drinks to get out of the rain. Would highly recommend.

Lives up to the name. The decor is what your would expect from a dive bar. Lots of random knick-knacks on the walls, looks like it hasnt been updated in some time. I thought the atmosphere was really fun.That said, there are plenty of TVs here, and the taplist is excellent. They probably had 25 beers on tap, one from Other Half, 3 Bourbon County Stouts, and several other beers that arent necessarily easy to come by.They also appeared to have a large selection of bourbons and whiskeys. Couldnt really comment on the quality or prices, but there were certainly a lot of them.

One of the local bars in my neighborhood, my roommate and I usually end up here when were not sure what to do for dinner. The food is well above your typical bar standard, and they have a very wide selection of beer that can serve any beer-drinkers taste.The staff is friendly and helpful when they can be - even though the kitchen always seems to take forever to deliver the food (which is always worth the wait). It gets very crowded on game days, but if you can get there early enough for a seat at the bar, its worth it!

Despite the name, this bar isnt particularly divey. Its large, well lit (for a bar), and has a extensive food menu and beer selection. While my dining partners had a regular lager and wings, I was able to get a Belgian witbier, eggplant parm panini, and a surprisingly fresh salad. The price was also reasonable, considering the location.

Romy was a sweetheart to us and made sure our glasses were never empty and that the food was delicious! Fun atmosphere, great selection of beer!

The meal is really bad. We ordered a chicken sandwich but it didn’t have chicken, the salads were too spicy and the coke tasted like diluted with water. The WiFi service didn’t work! Although the place and waiter service are fine, definitely it isn’t a good value for money!

In need of a quick drink in the W90s? Look not further than Dive bar, the bar that caters to the local brewerys. Each week the beer menu is updated, and there is always a vast selection of beers on tap. Great place to meet a friend, or enjoy the game on Sunday.

Fun place, usually crowded after working hours. Beer selection is extensive but not moderately priced. Prepare to spend the same as decent restaurant. Staff are very welcoming, and despite the lack of room, it is a comfortable place to be.

It’s your typical dive bar...Sketchy looking with sometimes out of control individuals. Food is nothing special but definitely amazing when you need to find something after a night of partying.It’s just your typical bar to go grab a beer, a drink or two, and hang out with your friends in a very casual setting.

Very typical homey bar with a fair selection of simple dishes. The alcohol menu is way better then the food. The staff is super nice which makes this my favorite place for do nothing nights. Make sure you order the poutine the Montreal cheese curds and fries dish.

The food was juicy and greasy and amazing. And at $20-25 pp the prices were pretty reasonable. Was gonna take off a star for the rather inattentive service, but then I realized that Dive Bar is a pun, so they earned it back.

Go-to spot in the UWS. Never disappointed here. I got the Mediterranean appetizer platter as my lunch (hungry vegetarian here...) and it was filling and delish! My husband was thoroughly impressed with the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese.

Local bar. Food was very good. Prices reasonable. Bar tender not very personable. Never said a word. Took forever to get a refill on drinks even though hardly anyone there

The beer selection was great and so was the food. Its a kind of small place though. There are larger booths in the back, but you need to have more than 4 people and be ordering food.

Had a great 1st date here. Guy who took our orders was awesome. Mozzarella sticks were delicious and served quickly. Passion Fruit Margherita, best Margherita imo. No Long Islands unfortunately.

Being a local minority sometimes its hard to find a local spot for a drink that doesnt profile you and doesnt make you feel as youre out of place. I went for a drink during July 4th wkend with my husband and I felt comfortable and welcomed. My husband even forgot his phone on top of the table and one of the workers ran out to give it to us. Ive been in the neighborhood for 38 yrs and Ive never walked it. I will definitely go back for another drink. Thank you for the hospitality. It did not go unnoticed. I wish more establishments would be like you especially for the locals.

Solid dive bar vibe, upper west side prices. You dont really have any alternatives for bar food, a great atmosphere, and solid beer selection, so take what you can get in the area. Just be prepared to pay for it.

DISRESPECTFUL STAFF- KICKED US OUT FOR NOT NOT DRINKING ALCOHOLI wish I could give this place a negative review. My wife and I were just kicked out of the Dive Bar by the male bartender for not drinking alcohol.We went there to watch Game 7 of the yanks game (diehard yankee fans). We waiting a bit for a seat, then we sat down at the end of the bar and ordered and paid for seltzers. The bartender asked us if we were drinking...I advised him no we were not drinking alcohol (because my wife may be pregnant) and he had told us I have paying customers and if you arent drinking leave. Regardless of pregnancy or not, its COMPLETELY WRONG to kick someone out for not drinking alcohol. We will NEVER go back there again...what a heartless way to treat people.

A bar that has gluten free items is my best friend. The staff is quite friendly and who doesnt love a place where you can get an expected gift card just for checking into a social networking site.

Love this place and have been coming for years, but... I came all the way from Brooklyn for the Damn Good Veggie Sandwich to find it was NO LONGER ON THE MENU! Devastating! Bring back the Damn Good Veggie Sandwich ASAP! :)

Reasonable prices and good bar food... quick service with a somewhat mixed crowd... definitely not a real dive bar but the closest you can find on the Upper West side in 2016 I would have to say... anytime i am in the upper west side this is one of my go-to spots for a pint or three...

The bar of bars with a unique flair!

That I hadnt yet reviewed Dive Bar on 96th is almost disturbing, since it is the nicest Dive Bar in the area. Their beer menu is longer than a New Yorker thinkpiece and is certain to have at least a couple that will hook you in (but some will still drink Bud...erm, not that theres anything wrong with it). But honestly, I go to Dive Bar to stuff my face with their pretzel sliders cuz I believe them to be Gods answers to why we should go on living despite the shitstorm raging outside...

They changed their wig recipe and increased their prices. use to be my #1 place in the city, but now the buffalo wings are sweet, a set of 5 wings cost $15, and it now the worst taking and worst value wings in the city. If youre a wing lover AVOID.

This is an intimate neighborhood no frills NYC sort of sports bar. Original menu. Oh and if you like oysters give this place a shot. I like mine in their garlic sauce.

Nice food and prices are ok. Beein from Québec I had to have the poutine and must comment on it : fries are very good, sauce is ok, but the cheese is wrong, its normal cheddar instead of fresh cheese curds, but overall its good.

Really did not smell good at the bar. Had that stale watery mouldy kind of smell that you sometimes find at...well...dive bars. But the beer selection was pretty deep.

Dive Bar is a nice spot!! Located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the atmosphere + vibes are quintessential for a dive (& thats what makes it so great). They make a good margarita and their fries are a perfect shareable bite!!

My family goes regularly here due it being one of the very few sit down restaurants in the area with reasonable prices, and a wide variety of phenomenal food.

Visit Dennis the Menace and hell give you a laugh and great service. Well be back! Love from Philly.

The bar tender picks and chooses who to be friendly with. One minute she smiles with certain customers, the next minutes shes rude with the next. When working in any customer service job, it is ideal to be friendly with all people.
