For drinks, I got the mah-jong. Not a big fan of it, very strong and sour?We shared the char siu BBQ baby back ribs, the ants climbing the tree, and the african chicken. I like the back ribs; the meat was very soft and chewy. I do wish there’s another sauce accompanying it and eating it was kind of messy. The ants climbing the tree was our favorite. I enjoy the glass noodles a lot although I wish the pork wasn’t minced. Harder to eat. Not a huge fan of the african chicken. Even though there’s sauce ontop of it, when I actually cut into and eat the chicken meat itself, it was really dry and bland. Hard to chew and dry. The salad around it was alright but it didn’t really add to the meal. We got the maladasas, fried donuts, and that was good. Not super memorable dining experience but I have to say the interior is very well decorated. It looks stunning.
All around excellent evening, the food the place the service, huge thank you! Or waitress was super helpful, she absolutely knew the food and gave great suggestions, sorry, I didnt get your name. But thank you!And the food! Everything was great, my daughter ordered duck, now I have to go back and have that duck all to myself:) but everything was very good, dumplings, oysters, mussels. Everything! Thank you!
Visited Macao Trading Co. and had an overall enjoyable experience. The concept is unique and creates a fun, vibrant atmosphere with a retro 1940s gambling parlor vibe. It’s definitely a lively spot, though—if you’re not into loud, hectic environments, this might not be your scene. Our server (a blonde woman whose name I can’t recall) was a bit hard to read—couldn’t tell if she was happy or annoyed with us—but the service was efficient. The drinks were strong, which we appreciated, and the menu had some excellent options. The croquettes and ribs were especially delicious, and I was happy to see vegetarian-friendly choices as well.We did get a bit of a scare when we arrived and saw cops outside, but it turned out to be a noise issue—nothing too serious. Despite the chaotic environment, the food and drinks made it worthwhile.Giving it 4 stars because the noise and overall chaos might not suit everyone, but if you’re looking for good food, strong drinks, and a high-energy atmosphere, this is a solid choice.
Very nice place to take someone on a date the food was very delicious. I enjoyed the steak, dumplings, calamari, and lobster noodles
Came for a night cap. The mezcal based cocktail was great. The atmosphere is sexy and makes you want to sway your body and just feel the good energy. There were these cute chairs on the wall so we sat there and sipped on our beautiful drinks!
Macao Trading Company is a very interesting spot for some Chinese-Portuguese fusion cuisine. A unique combination but it includes plenty of meat, vegetarian, and seafood options. The decor and the cocktails are the best part of this restaurant. The food is pretty solid; we tried some noodle dishes, vegetable sides, and the steamed shrimp dumplings. The dumplings were probably the best with the noodles being a bit underwhelming, and the long beans were pretty good.
Interesting place to have a meal. The atmosphere is very nice, cozy and secretive kind of. With the decoration very well thought and put together. The service is on top. Nothing to be said. All good. And food wise, it was really good. We got the dumpling fried as a starter and the strip steak. Excellent. It’s a little bit expensive, but we had a great evening.
Drinks:- la espina — it was really good with a kick to it- The phoenixFood:- African chicken - insane peri peri sauce and a really good amount of meat- Grilled skirt steak - had a chimmichuri sauce which was to die for and steak cooked so tender
Server Elena was amazing. Bartenders also fantastic and very attentive.
The food was delicious! Highly recommend the fried dumplings and bacon & shrimp fried rice. When we arrived, we waited a little to have our order taken and the server gave us free espresso martinis to apologize. We thought the service was excellent outside of the free drinks! Definitely go here if you’re looking for a great (somewhat pricey) meal.
Delicious food, great atmosphere. Do not order espresso martini though, very bitter. The waiter was nice about it, said he’ll take it off the check (he also said he took a sip of it when he took it back and it was indeed very bitter lol). But he didn’t, and after we reminded him it was still charged he said he totally will take it off, but then brought it back and it was still there in the check.
Came here on an early Friday evening with no reservations. Hostess sat us quickly. Within an hour the restaurant was packed. It looked like a nice ambience for date night. We just ordered a few apps. The glass noodles had lots of flavor. Waitress was nice and friendly.
We had an absolutely amazing time at Macao. Our bartender Dino was exceptional and went above and beyond to enhance our experience. He not only crafted delicious drinks but also took the time to explain every detail. If you visit, make sure to try the dumplings—they are an absolute must! The combination of flavors and textures was simply outstanding. We left Macao with great memories and will be back for sure!
Such a fun romantic place to go for a date night!Good:- The lobster noodles were amazing! I was blown away since the noodles were so tasty and chewy and also the sauce had so much flavor The lobster meat was tender and savory- The dessert was so good the donuts were flakey and chewy and adding on the condensed milk was nice- Very solid ambiance, dimly lit and private booths to eatBad:- The place is pretty expensive!- Took a long time to flag down waiters and get them to take our orders - nice servers thoughOverall enjoyed the experience here and would come again! I liked he decorations mostly and the way it crafted an experience
This was a mixed bag. The dumplings and hoisin noodles were really good. The ribs were fine. The croquettes were a bit bland and the African chicken’s flavors didn’t go well together in my opinion. The donuts at the end were pretty good and our waitress was really nice. The vibe itself is very cool so it’s a fun spot for a weekend dinner & drinks if you’re not necessarily looking for the most amazing food.
Beautiful setting and great for happy hours after work. The food is not close to Asian so it was a bit underwhelming. Steamed fish was delicious but I’d say overpriced.
Amazing service ! Unbelievable atmosphere. Super bar friendly environment. The bartender named Ratko from Monte Negro was unbelievable and an amazing personality
Hit the spot all around. Nice menu, good service, great limited offering where you can’t go wrong with anything (cocktails and food). Good vibe / good service
Macao was known as the crossroads of the Far East and the flavors come from a variety of cultures. We tried shrimp and scallion steamed dumplings. The dumplings were a bit thick and chewy for our taste. The veggie fried rice was a solid rice choice. Ants climbing the tree is a dish with glass noodles, minced pork, mushrooms and chilies. It is a lovely dish with distinctive but not overpowering flavors.
An excellent club with an exotic intimate atmosphere with friendly professional staff all around from bouncer to matridee to the servers and bartender to even the DJ. I had a great time.
The atmosphere is lively and “in character” in relation to Macao. Unfortunately we had some really strange service and the quality of food was inconsistent. At the start of our dining experience our waitress was very clear that we had only 2 hours and would have to leave by a certain time. The reminder was fine but the delivery did not make us feel like welcomed guests. A few of my friends wanted to order the steamed fish and the server kept telling them it was soup based and almost suggested they shouldn’t order it. We were all confused as my friends still wanted that dish. I’m vegetarian/vegan and had the fried spinach dumplings. They were ok but would have preferred them without cheese. I did like the shishito peppers because they were vegan (I think) and the portion was generous. I ordered the hoisin noodles as it was pretty much the only entree available. It’s called hoisin Hakka. To the restaurant, hoisin means seafood in Chinese so perhaps an update to the name would make it more clear. The noodles were disappointing. Very hard and I didn’t finish them. Despite giving us a two hour dining limit our server was hard to pin down the rest of the evening. It took almost 30 mins to get our dessert and another 20 mins to process our cards. We asked for individual cards if possible and the server said it would take a longer “minute”. Had we know it would take 20 we would have done one card. We left almost an hour after our allotted time so I guess there was a no show. From a sustainability standpoint it was generally fine but the disposable chopsticks swapped for reusable are low hanging fruit.
The atmosphere was really cute and the servers were very attentive. But the food was kind of bad. Everything was very oily. The vegetables were cooked to death. The foods is kind of like glorified Chinese take out. But the cocktail and mocktail drinks were great
Hidden gem in Church street. Inspired by Macao (former Portuguese territory in China), the venue has one bar area and one restaurant area. The decor is stunning! There is also a club downstairs. The bar offers delicious cocktails (*yellow fever* is possibly my favorite cocktail in NYC). The staff is very nice.
I loved the place and bartenders... question i had was: how do you mix water with that sink 😂😂😂😂😂😂 and get good water temperature on both hands. Any ways very much loved the place. Totally and 100000% recommended. Decent prices and good service. P.S. cocktails are lit 🔥
The service was great, and the drinks are really wonderful. The atmosphere is great fun. I just feel the food doesnt quite match what I would expect. It was good, but Id be happier eating other places. Get coctails here for sure!
Beautiful place and great time. I recommend it.
Celebrated our 1year anniversary. The drinks, appetizers and entrees were amazing. Each plate they brought out was just leaving us speechless. The ambience was relaxing.Recommend this restaurant, it will not dissapoint🫶🏽
The decor is very intriguing. Quite a few mocktails as well.
I had the WORST experience at Macao yesterday. I waited 30 minutes to order 4 drinks and the bartender with short hair & tattoos just prepared 2 of them and refused to prepare the rest because she thought she already did. When i asked for the rest of my drinks ( which I already paid for), she was ignoring us, being rude & condescending because she probably though we were drunk which wasn’t true. I had to go upstair and fill a complain to get what i paid for. Horrible experience
One of my favorite spots in Tribeca. The vibe here is great, fun music, good bartenders, friendly staff. They serve some of the best cocktails in NYC! Love this neighborhood spot! Check their site regularly, on certain nights they have live music and djs! Will be back soon- cheers!
Absolutely fantastic dining experience at Macao Trading Co! The ambiance is unique and captivating, blending the charm of old-world Macau with modern flair. The menu is diverse and delicious, with every dish bursting with flavor. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and service. The cocktails are expertly crafted and perfectly complement the food. Overall, a memorable dining adventure that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-notch restaurant. Five stars!
Before there was Hong Kong, there was Macao as the first and last trading outpost of Europe. This heavily influences the cuisine of this Restaurant. The service is excellent, the cocktail choices are awesome and go beyond the usual suspects. Food is delicious.
Not sure why this place is labeled as having small plates as the dinner menu has nothing of the sort. The food was fabulous though, from the whole fish that melted :/ your mouth to the wagyu beef steak. Prices are a bit excessive, but the aesthetic and decor is amazing. The cocktails are pricey ($15) but on point.
Lobster noodle is really good, crispy fish is good on the outside, but inside a little tasteless, could be a little more flavorful.
We had reservations on a Wednesday night. Love the vibe. Music wasnt too loud and we could have a conversation. I ordered the dumplings, Ants climbing the tree, and malasadas. All were delicious, but I highly recommend getting the malasadas! Our waitress was very friendly and even brought out a chart that included all food allergies for all the dishes as one of my friends has a food intolerance. Will come back to check out the bar downstairs.
Do yourself a favor and have dinner here…the food is amazing, the atmosphere is so so fun, and the servers are wonderful! Jessie is a true gem…she is so fun andher smile is contagious! Such a great experience…the DJ showed up at 10:30pm and then the “party’” really got started!!
A beautiful bar with amazing cocktails and food. The staff is always on point. Definitely one of my favorite spots in the city. Had a great date.
Food was good 3/5. Service was poor 1/5.We made a reservation for dinner and immediately after sitting us down, the waiter was trying to upsell us on drinks and appetizers, despite us declining multiple times. We ordered the African Blackened Chicken, Hoisin Hakka Noodles, Ants Climbing the Tree, and Macanese Steamed Fish.Unfortunately, the waiter got our order wrong. They brought out the wrong dishes. We had to call them over to fix it. Then, they got it wrong again and we had to call them to fix it again. To be fair, they were very nice and understanding about this. Finally, we asked for the check. Unsurprisingly, the check was wrong and we were incorrectly charged for the dishes that we didn’t order. We had to call them over yet again to fix this.Mistakes happen. But, at a restaurant like this, you are paying a premium for a great experience. Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience. It’s such a shame because Macanese food is already underrated as it is and this restaurant had an opportunity to it to NYC.It came out to be ~$60/person.
This is a really good restaurant with great food, I think there’s better food for the price, but that’s no knock on the quality or the menu. Food was excellent.
Good was pretty good, interior is unique. Good for a random weekend night. A little pricey for what you get.
I had a horrible experience last week at the bar. The bartender had brought my drink and the check, and I would have sworn I had already handed him my card because I couldn’t find it in my wallet. I was freaking out trying to find it and asked him to please double check if he had it. At some point he became hysterical and yelled at me that he did not have it. When I once again insisted he take another look he took the drink away, tossed it and left. I have never felt as bad and humiliated as he made me feel and wish it to no one else. I cannot recommend this place after this experience.
Very cool place. We mainly came for a few drinks. Drinks are upscale, very well made. I forgot my coat and they were able to locate it and ship it back to me, which I think really says a lot about their customer service. A+
Solid first experience. Evan is by far an excellent server. Their whole team was very attentive and helpful. We ordered dumplings (chicken and pork), mussels, and the chicken. I felt the chicken lacked a bit in flavor but everything else was spectacular. Would definitely revisit.
Great place always love the DJ. I think the drinks are too notch. Well poured and well made. I tend to order cocktails and they get them right. Music upstairs nice for a more relaxed environment; downstairs is a dance party.
Can’t comment on the food because we didn’t have any… But as we were standing outside, someone In front of us, let the bouncer know that downstairs was a smashing good time… So, as a haphazard group of five of us wandered in we grabbed a drink and head downstairs… What an experience it was amazing atmosphere great music great people dancing very respectful highly recommend
This place was awesome. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a couple of their specialty cocktails and shared some dishes. Recommend the mushroom appetizer and the Hakka noodles. Those were my favorite. African chicken was moist and flavorful. Octopus app was cooked really well just had seasonings that weren’t for me. The vibe in here is very cool and they played fun 80s music all night. Apparently have a night club that is hopping in the basement late night until 4am, but we just went for dinner. Bartender service was amazing. Recommend for sure!
Loved the way this place is decked out - gives an old colonial vibe. The food and service was ok.
The food and cocktails were good but the dining experience was unpleasant and felt rushed. For the price, I would expect a more nuanced dining experience during dinner and not a rushed 90 minute limit seen during a typical bottomless brunch. They note online when you make a reservation that tables are held for 1h30m and the hostess made it known when we arrived that they were fully booked with a party expected at 8:00pm following our 6:30 reservation. However, she approached our table again during our meal and gave us a 15 minute warning when our waitress had just taken our dessert order. We were also working through a bottle of wine. If we are paying to dine at a location I would rather not made to feel like an inconvenience. I understand not lingering and alleviating the table for the next guests, but there was a disconnect amongst the staff regarding timings. I don’t feel the need to come here again.
Delicious Asian fusion dishes in a very cool space. Check out the basement dance party after!
If you have never had Macanese food before, this place is a great example of all the delicious flavors it has to offer. The African chicken and wagyu coulette are must haves, and the cocktails are very well done and worth a taste or two. The food is served family style as well, so everyone can enjoy all the flavors available.
Almost 5 stars. I’d give it 4.5 - the drinks great, service was spectacular and the atmosphere very fun. The food was near perfect but the chicken was dry. Definitely order the dumplings, croquets, and Ants climbing noodles.
This restaurant was really different than what I expect for a Asian restaurant. The atmosphere is really controversial. Because you find a low light place, its kind of romantic, but unfortunately, the music is not romantic or oriental at all. They have hip-hop and regueton playing. The food was good, but the menu is really small. The service was good. Price was ok
Let me begin with, I eat out at new places all the time and have never ever until now felt strongly compelled enough to write a negative review for a restaurant, ever. The food was pretty good, and the decor / atmosphere / vibe of the restaurant was really cool and pleasant and enjoyable. Our waiter, Sam, was shockingly rude. Like really ... jarringly condescending and rude. We started with a round of drinks for our table of seven. We received several eye rolls during the process of placing this first first round of drinks. I felt we were completely kind and nice and polite so the attitude came as a surprise. When it came time to place a food order, we read off about 8 different items from the menu that we all planned to share (mostly appetizers, but one or two of the entree items as well). Sams response was oh, are you planning on going somewhere else for dinner after?, sarcastically suggesting that our order wasnt large enough for the size of our group. Mind you, the bill ended up being $700 --- so, $100 each. We responded yes, were all going to split everything and Sam replied hmm, ok, well see if that will be enough. Ive never ever been met with the kind of blatant sarcasm, rudeness, and disdain as we were with Sam at Macao Trading Company this evening. It was almost laughably rude (literally, several of us could not help but laugh immediately after). We felt uncomfortable and unwanted in the establishment as a direct result of the treatment we received from our waiter. I always tip generously anyway and would not have done otherwise, but it felt strongly as if Sam felt comfortable treating us this way because the gratuity on our check was guaranteed given the size of the party. In summation, its a dope place with cool food but we paid $100 each to be snarled at and treated like garbage.
Honestly this place was a bit of a letdown. Went here for dinner and drinks with my co-workers. We were not interested in dancing persay, so maybe the issue in our choice, but in all, drinks and croquettes were only passable parts of our collective experience. Food was mediocre at best, and quite expensive for the quality (two people in my party complaned of stomach problems the next day). Service was okay, staff obviously works hard, but had some issues with dishes being removed from the table without us being finished with them. In conclusion, I may comeback for a drink or something, but not much else.
Great vibe and nice lobster noodles
Food is nothing to write home about but the club downstairs was really fun on a Friday night. Played hip hop hits and the crowd was late 20s, early 30s. It was a fun time
I recommend the African chicken with a side of rice. Very tangy fun dish, though a bit too much umami the rice helps mellow it out a bit
Had dinner here and it couldn’t have been a better experience. The menu had so many great options, the cocktails were all delicious and the service was superb. The vibe and ambiance set such a neat and fun mood. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone. A lot of variety and just good people in a great spot. Definitely will be going back.
Review only for the bar downstairs, not (yet) for the food! The bar area turns into a dancing floor after 11PM, and it can be a hit or a miss depending on the day you go. The first time we went we had a 10/10 experience, mostly thanks to our bartender Sebastian who basically made our whole night.
Cool little date spot. Definitely get the dumplings.
Ratko is an amazing bartender. He made sure we had a great time and kept the special drinks coming all night. Great vibes and music.
Macao is an excellent restaurant and bar. It excels at every level— food, services, drinks, and atmosphere. We loved the lobster noodles and croquettes. Highly recommend!
Amazing atmosphere and great place to enjoy tasty drinks and food. This could be a bit noisy but it worth it.
I went with a group of 6 for a birthday on a Saturday night, we had a reservation and there was a good amount of space for a group that size. They seated us right away with our reservation. We ordered the chicken and pork belly dumplings, mushroom and truffle croquets, and the octopus. All 3 were delicious. The cocktails were nicely crafted. I enjoyed one on the seasonal menu that included freshly crushed cranberries. Service was good overall. The atmosphere was very nice, a cozy ambiance, and very high ceilings and the tables are spread out enough so you’re not on top of the people next to you - a rarity in NYC. There is also a downstairs for even more space.
Overall rating: 4.8Absolutely obsessed with this place! I went on a Monday around 7:30pm. I was surprised at the low rating and saw most of them were due to sitting at the bar or bar service related.I went for dinner with my friend and our service was great! Our server was super friendly and provided great recommendations.I didn’t realize Macao was an actual location before I went but they had a great description on the menu which was very informative. The food was so good! I’m obsessed with their croquettes! So much that I ordered a second round to go 😅 The dumplings were good but still can’t stop thinking about the croquettes. The fish soup was really good and flavorful too.I highly recommend giving it a try. A tad expensive but it is in Tribeca and I feel like it’s worth it in my opinion. 🤤
The music was pretty good and the vibes were great. HOWEVER, I cannot leave a good review as the short hair bartender essentially tried to scam my party out of two drinks by implying that she had already served them. I assume she thought we were drunk out of our mind (which, honestly, was a ridiculous assumption from her) and thus, was extremely condescending when we were trying to ask for the drinks we had already paid for. Ultimately, this really stained what would’ve been an overall great experience.
The food and drinks are expensive. One mojito cost 20$
Food and drinks were awesome. The venue turns into a late night bar with a DJ. African chicken, croquettes and fried rice were all delicious.
Drunken Dragons breath is our favorite drink here.Red Snapper was delicious. Big enough for 2 people.I also live the Branzino.Black Rice with baby bok choy is Devine.Worst thing about this place is the music was at nightclub levels and we couldnt hear our server and we are yelling and leaning across the table to hear each other during dinner. I was wearing ear plugs.
This place has a basement bar that I love. Been here for casual drinks and birthday celebrations. The cocktails are very strong here. Food is delicious and generous sizing. Seating upstairs during busy hours is difficult. I loved the basement as they have music after 10 and turns into a dance floor. Try yellow fever cocktail, it’s strong and delicious. Will be visiting here often !!
We used to go here often when we lived in the neighborhood. Since we moved out of the city, we always made it a point to stop here when we visit the city becasue we loved the food. Unfortunately, on our recent visit, we were very disatisfied with the food. The dough for the dumplings were heavy and doughy and overall the food was tasteless and heavily saturated in sauce, such as hoisin. We were very disappointed and will not come back again. Which is sad to say.
The vibe is cool and the drinks are good, but the service is terrible and the food is atrociously over priced. Good place for drinks before or after dinner but not for a meal.
Not very busy and with a group of 6 we were able to be seated easily during dinner time on a Saturday. The vibes are nice and dark and mysterious. Super detailed interior decorations. The drinks are really nice, and I recommend this place as a bar. The food was overall alright but some of it was a miss. The steamed mussels were bad (their mussels were just low quality). See my attached picture for a sad empty mussel - they were all like that. The oysters too werent the freshest and were really small. The whole fried fish though was pretty standard, the lobster noodle was really good, and the eggplant side was good too.Id come back. Thanks!
Definitely a very trendy and pricey place, but the food and service are so good, the prices dont bother me. Ive always stated that as long as one was capable of backing up the price with quality, I have no problem paying for it.The mushroom and truffle croquettes are so good! The lobster noodles were delicious too. Even the veggie fried rice was good. The blush maiden drink was great. We really dig everything about this place. The nightclub below is so cool!
The crispy Branzino is on point. Perfect balance of flavor 👌🏽
A bar and restaurant with excellent vibe. The food was average.
A little on the pricer side. Servers were very nice and the foods was good. The dumpling was essentially a Sui Mai wrapped in a dumpling wrapper, a bit weird. The fried rice and lobster noodles were good. Other dishes were okay. Cool vibes. Would come back for the drinks
Just the best. Drinks are amazing. Downstairs bar when the DJ comes on is such a good time. Music is great.
I’ve always loved this place. After visiting again many years later (first went in 2015?), the service has gotten even better. We had to cancel our res last minute due to a colleague’s flight delay (and my mistake in thinking the res was 30 min later). They were super understanding and said if we still wanted to visit, they’d be open later. We ended up coming without our colleague and they remembered the convo we’d had on the phone. They gave us THE BEST table (although, all of the tables are great) and treated us to some Prosecco. Thoughtful servers, wonderful management, no wait for food, clean, and delicious food. What more could you want?
Highly recommend. Food was outstanding and the drinks even better. Expect an Asian fusion, food that you would expect on the streets of Singapore but with high quality and fresh ingredients. Service was excellent as well. The octopus and dumplings were must haves. The fish and fried rice were very good
Food and drinks are good. I liked the design and light. Service was ok
Macao Trading is a busy bar and restaurant that is very lively. The decor to the bar is very rich and textured with eclectic features. A large bouquet of flowers dominates the space, while colorful ambient lighting sets the tone. The food is fusion and very delicious. Our group enjoyed the dumplings, lobster noodles, and burrata. One thing Id like to point out is the high quality of the wait staff. One person in our party had a peanut allergy and ordered a dish where peanuts were added as a topping. When the dish arrived, it appeared as though there were peanuts on the dish. When the waitress noticed this (on her own, before the person in our party even noticed), the waitress confirmed that there were no nuts on the dish and that the kitchen had substituted sunflower seeds instead. I was impressed by the waitress remembering the allergy and Im glad she was proactive. With the bar located out front, the restaurant is quite noisy. This is a great place if you want to have some laughs and celebrate.
Great place! Food was amazing. I ordered the gin tonico and I loved it!
What a wonderful experience!!! The food was delicious but the service was top notch! From the hostesses to the waitress to the manager it was nothing but the best vibes! I can’t recommend this place enough. If your in NY it’s a must!Thank you for making our evening so special. See you again soon!
Great food and great ambiance - had never heard of this place and came on a random Tuesday and it had a great ambiance. Active but not excessively loud. Not sure how busy it gets on the weekends, but we had no issue finding a table for 3 on a Tuesday night. The bar looked amazing and my friend said the cocktails were very good, did not try them myself.
Excellent atmosphere in this fabulous restaurant in NYC. Service is very kind, professionnal and efficient. We had the steamed fish , amazing dish. Wines are good and afordable. I strongly recommend !!!
While the decor was impressive, the service was subpar at best. Our waitress was rude and ignored us on several occasions. We brought a cake as it was a birthday dinner, and we’re certain the kitchen only gave us half of the cake. The African Chicken is good, but nothing to brag about.
An excellent place to have a drink, eat great good and have a dance downstairs!
My favorite Saturday night / Sunday morning spot. The crowd is mixed and happy. The music is a little something for everyone. Always a song I havent heard in forever. I love sitting at corner of the bar and watch the energy on the room... vibrant until the end. And the bar staff is a pleasure to watch in action. The way they make drinks is sexy 😘
My favourite spot in NYC, the service is just too caring and sweet, everyone goes out of their way to make you feel at home. The food is fantastic and the ambiance just amazing.
Went in for drinks only. The place was so packed that it was nearly impossible to move. Staffs were overall very rude, probably due to the fact it was so overcrowded, but thats not an excuse since it is their fault for not crowd controlling. Drinks are over priced, and the tip on my tab was over charged, which added to the cost... I guess the ambiance is their thing and the food looked decent, so I will refrain from placing a one star.Overall, I was not pleased with my experience and I wont be returning in the future.
Hidden gem in Soho. Made reservations 1 hour in advance. Must be the coolest setting in a restaurant I have seen in years. It feels like you are inside an old merchant ship. The bar looks beautiful. The cocktails were delicious and the food extraordinarily nice. If you are looking for a quality dinner in Soho this is where I would send you.
Wow! I had no idea what I was walking into but I was shocked at the amount of detail was put into the design of the place--absolutely beautiful.Cocktails! Wow! There was a coconut milk cocktail that blew my mind.Food, damn!! Everything we had was delectable--from appetizer all the way to dessert.
Loved it so much! Th waiter was amazing and the food! The chicken, eggplant, and octopus was amazing
Went to this restaurant yesterday for my anniversary dinner. The two stars are for the amazing baby back ribs and the ambience. But unfortunately, the service was horrible. The place was not crowded yet our server took so long to get to our orders. We requested water and sauces a few times and she completely forgot.Their credit card machine was not working, we waited for half hour just sitting on the table and yet there was no solution so we had to step out and withdraw cash. I understand these issues happen but the staff was not courteous at all while us and a few other customers were just waiting on the table. There was only one server attending and the rest of the staff was just standing by the bar doing nothing! Did not leave with a good experience.
Macao is a place with great ambiance and atmosphere. The music was great. Food - medium and below. We had two plates of dumplings which were fine, not more. you can find better on next door china town. We also had the Octopus, again had much better. For main I had the lobster paste. The pasta was over cooked but beside that it was OK. not more, not worth its price. Both desserts we had were unimaginative and poorly prepared. Its a great place for sitting on the bar and have a drink. Dont eat there.
You will get better service at WALMART.The bartender in the downstairs lounge charged me twice for drinks. When called out for his mistake, he got a major attitude and was the one upset for being called out for the mistake. Slammed a free tequila shot on the table. Just apologize for your honest mistake would’ve been the end of it.Instead, a rude waitress Christina was quick to call security and kick myself and family out for their mistake after we spent $600 for at their business. It’s called taking ownership for your mistake and apologizing. Clearly zero accountability happens at this restaurant. From management to their servers, this place has zero customer service. Inauthentic people, absolutely pretentious and horrendous service skills from the top to the bottom. No wonder their servers act with ego and entitlement. Do yourself a favour and spend your money elsewhere. This place isn’t even Asian owned but is called Macao. Make it make sense.
Im not the type of person who write reviews but she ruined our night We went for a couple of drinks in New Year’s Eve we started with a bartender he was a awesome , the problem started when Stephanie (I’m not sure about her name but she was the only women bartender working that night ) she continued with our tab she was extremely rude without reason not once a couple of times , and at the end of the night we got our check with extra charge, she was super drunk ! And Screaming to everyone even her own coworkers sorry guys but you should considering who you are hiring
Food is pricey and poorly prepared. The dumplings were bland and sad. The lobster noodles costed a fortune - only to get a small tasteless lobster and a bowl of supermarket quality noodles. Their cocktails are original and good though, and despite a mediocre service, atmosphere is cheerful and fun. Just grab a drink at the bar but do not eat there.
Came here with some friends for an evening out. The drinks were interesting, delicious and ~$18, which for Manhattan, is a reasonable price 🥲 but the rest of the menu is pricey for the portion. Its dark, moody, candelit, and pretty quiet even for a Friday dinner time.TL;DR - recommend this spot for drinks and snacks for an intimate group. Or if youre not spending your own money, bring your coworkers here 😛What we ordered:Mushroom truffle coquettes - 4 bite sized croquettes. Decent. Nothing special.Porterhouse for 2 - a good steak is a good steak! The truffle butter was a great addition. Wish there was more of it though. The potato and bok choy sides were great.Lobster noodles - the best tasting item we got that night. really creamy and buttery sauce topped with a lobster tail. But truly not worth the hefty price tag. The waiter told us that food is designed to be family style. But everyone only gets 1 bite if you split a lobster noodle 4 ways. Noodles are inexpensive so Im sad they skimped on the portion here.Macanese steamed fish - a very light broth accompanies very soft fish. Nothing too special. I was expecting menu items named Macanese to carry something specifically Macau, but this dish tasted like a standard Chinese light steamed fish.Szechuan eggplant - sweet and vinegary. But not spicy.Panna Cotta - coconutty!Malasadas - warm and served with vanilla sauce and a caramel sauce.Overall, drinks are great, vibe is good, location is good, takes reservations, food tasted good. 1 star off for value.
Used to enjoy coming here but after a recent visit, I’m definitely never coming back. Service was disgraceful, the staff was very unpleasant and condescending to a degree. Food took a long time to arrive and was not up to par whatsoever. Lobster noodles were spoiled and reeked of ammonia. Very disappointed, the quality of the mgmt. team has definitely dwindled over the last few months.
Food is great the vipe is awesome must go!
Chelso is the best bartender in NYC!!
Love the vibe here. Some great drinks and really enjoy the food. The lobster noodles and the bbq ribs are amazing. Good selection of drinks and some fun mixed drinks too. I enjoyed the dragon’s milk.
Really good drinks with thought put into them. Not just mixing a ton of ingredients... But actually considering how one thing impacts the other. Definitely a place where you can go to drink outside your comfort zone. And the ribs were delicious 😋
Glad I finally made it to Macao. My friend and I shared the Crispy whole fish & the Macanese lobster noodles. The flavor was on 10 for both! If the chef holds a demo Im there.. Our server Elena & manager Donnell were attentive & friendly. Highly recommend.
Not only is the decor amazing, but the service is impeccable - and our waitress was a veritable sommelier. Start off with the mushroom truffle croquettes! As a veg, I still had an array of scrumptious options, like eggplant curry, fried pumpkin, Brussels sprouts...not to mention the desserts ( the almond cake was delicious!). Overall, a great experience.
Our company had our 10 year anniversary party in their lounge last week and we had a great time. Our food review is based on their hors doeuvres which were pretty good. The decor was especially nice. Overall it was a pleasant experience and definitely a place recommend visiting if youre ever in Lower Manhattan.
This to me had the feel of what it would be like being back in the days of prohibition.Great vibe, singers & staff all add to the experience. We only had drinks, and my mojitos were spot on. Cant say that of too many places.Definitely one place that I will be sure to visit again.
Really cool place with good drinks! Theres also a downstairs that often has DJd music. Come with friends and enjoy! One of the few places thats quite happening on a weekday evening. I hope to try the food next time.
Their food no way taste like the food in the country Macau! This food is made for American taste food. No way taste like Chinese portugese food. Serving African chicken? Really? They cant even spell the country Macau correctly. Disappointed place!
Food was good. Chinese food’ish. Nothing too interesting . The waitress was all business and also put all 6 of our choices in at once. If you want to stay for more than 15 minutes and one drink, be specific. Unless you want a Chinese buffet on your table. We kind’a were ok rushing out. Vibes were “Meh”
Went here recently for a company dinner, and while Im not sure that the food was exactly what I would expect for Chinese/Portugese fusion it was all absolutely delicious and perfect to share family style. The bacon slab entree and the grilled romaine salad are definitely not to be missed! Cocktails were great as well. A truly lovely night.
Overprice for mediocre food. ok vibe
The food is great, but be careful, this place pads the tab. They add items onto the bill that werent ordered. If youre okay with being robbed, by all means, risk your hard earned money at this place. However, if you believe in paying for what you legitimately order, you may want to try somewhere else!! Buyer (or perhaps victim) beware!!!
The food was very delicious. Thank you to the young woman for her attention.❤️🙏
I love cool fusion cuisine, especially any with an Asian bent, so the idea of Chinese/Portuguese cuisine is really appealing. The dishes can be a bit hit or miss though. The charred octopus and veal meatballs are yummy, and the slab bacon is outstanding, but other dishes were on the bland side. The glass noodles (ants climbing the tree) were too soggy and the eggplant curry could have used a kick. The cocktails didnt impress me, either. I know theres a trend toward cocktails that dont have as much of a sweet or fruity flavor, but the two I had (Firecracker and Cicinho Sour) lacked flavor in general. Overall, I think the concept is cool, it just needs to turn up the volume on the food and drinks. And turn down the volume on the dining room itself. The space is packed extremely tightly and it gets very loud.
EXTREMELY UNSAFE PLACE. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. Went to Macao Trading Company this Friday with a group of friends. There was a man in the dance floor touching women without their permission. When asked to give space, the man PULLED OUT A KNIFE from his pocket as a threat. We called security, who did not find a knife, and hence was EXTREMELY RUDE to us. The security guy was aggressive, condescending, patronizing, and insensitive. He would not let me speak, interrupted me before I could explain anything. He spent the next half hour interrogating US instead of making sure no one would get harassed or stabbed in the club. Among other revolting comments, he accused US for doing the wrong thing by asking the man to give space. After all this time, I went back to check if the guy with the knife was still in the club, and saw him there dancing. So sad and frustrating.
Outstanding Fantastic Gorgeous Fun ... Delicious !This place is A-mazing. Beautiful bar serving some of the best cocktails and delicious food.Great music , laid-back vibe and did I mention that cocktails are to die for ? Drunken Dragons Milk , Mata Hari and Captain Lou are my favs
I give this particular bar the highest possible score! Our bartender, Ratko, puts so much conscious effort into every drink he makes, and that effort makes a difference! My friends and I had some of the best, most perfectly balanced drinks we’ve ever had. Our recommendation: come on a Sunday or day when things are quiet, so you can get his full attention and aren’t crowded out! I ordered the drunken dragon milk and the antiquado, then had a drink of Ratko’s choosing and followup up that by asking him toMake his favorite drink (Spicy Mezcal Margarita) - and all were absolutely fantastic, and worthy of highest marks!
Food and cocktails are great. Service is terrible. They forgot drinks, spilled sauce on a guest and retired the plates while we were still eating
There are so many things about this place that make it a 5 star review for me -- food, drinks, and entertainment! Ill only review the Food and drinks since the entertainment is more of a collaboration that isnt always there.Known for its top notch staff of mixologists and uniquely delightful list of cocktails, you cannot be disappointed. This is not a place to go if you just want a rum and coke, or a vodka soda. Come here for the Dragons Milk, a drink as unique as the name. Just watching the mixologists mix is entertainment unto itself and if you are lucky you may hear the sounds of a live jazz ensemble.Per the food, phenomenal. Im partial to the ribs which are packed full of flavor and fall off the bone with an asian spice to them. Definitely a place to not miss and a great location for a date or a bit of sophistication... not so much for hanging with the boys.
I am sorry I have to downgrade this restaurant to three stars from five, which was my experience pre-COVID. On the most recent visit I experienced the same lovely and lively space, and similar attentive service. But the food portions had shrunk, the cocktails were $18 before tax or tip - and tiny - and we felt rushed. I appreciate that restaurants have to make up lost revenue for the last two years, but this is not the way to do it.This was my review pre-COVID:Amazing atmosphere and high quality food. Interesting cocktails too, and not overpriced, considering how upscale the decor is. Very recommended for either drinks or dinner.
I really dig Macao-- good cocktails, fantastic decor, love the Chinese/Portuguese flavors (the fried rice is awesome). Love the downstairs and the naughty powder room artwork. Sexy late-night crowd. Good for groups and private events. Like the almost speakeasy vibe (its not one, but still).
Very crowded with okay drinks. The price is comparable to other places in the area. They have a dancing area in the basement that opens in the evening. However, when ventured down there on a Saturday night, no one was dancing. There are better places to go.
Amazing atmosphere!! Delicious food and delicious cocktails! Love the shrimp & bacon fried rice add a fried egg, and the steamed dumplings are 🔥!
Smallest portions and most inflated prices, cocktails barely had any alcohol and were average at best. Appetizers are decent. Tourist trap.
After wandering around Chinatown/SOHO I found myself in need of a restroom and a place to rest my tootsies for a spell. I turned the corner and saw the sign for this place--seemed like it might fit the bill, but it turned out to be much more! I loved the ambiance of the place, its dark eclectic decor evocative of the early 20th century colonial Chinese port town of its namesake. It was a quiet weeknight so I was able to strike up a conversation with the bartender and decided on a refreshing cocktail upon his recommendation (the Portonic). I was too full to try any of their food, but from what I could see on the tables and next to me at the bar, people seemed to be enjoying it. I spent a very pleasant hour or so sipping my drink and chatting with the bartenders, both of whom who happened to have the same name (which escapes me at the moment).
I went there for first time ever and I had a bartender named Sebastian most down to earth kid and loved him definitely made my experience 10/10 and I ordered the bashful maiden another 10/10 drink! Highly recommended bar!
Home, away home. Best food, best cocktails 🍸 😋, best bartenders, servers, cooks, and staff in town. Hidden gem of NYC!
The drinks were fantastic. The service was wonderful, as was the vibe.Out if the seven dishes we ordered, only two were good: the Panna cotta and the croquettes.Everything else was inedible. Details for the 2 dishes we were most excited about:The wagyu coulette we ordered medium rare, it was cold, with tiny touch of pink of medium to well done; severely overcooked. The cut of meat was described as tender and flavorful but was nothing of the sort. It was chewy and flavorless, a very tough cut of meat that tasted old.The lobster noodles.... Rather lobster with spaghetti. While the sauce was flavorful, the lobster was fishy, dry and overcooked. The whole meal was the same. You get to a point during your dinner where you realize complaining about it isnt worth the effort because its not repairable.
Really good atmosphere and service! Cocktail (Mahjong) was delicious and very strong. For the amount of food you get, this place is definitely on the pricier side but would be perfect if you wanted to make a good impression and entertain a crowd. The steamed fish was perfectly cooked, I would recommend getting it. However, the dumplings were pretty average for the price point and it only came with 4 dumplings.
Everything about our experience was excellent, food, cocktails, service, music. Will be back
We ordered 6 different dishes and all were greasy and very poorly prepared. it has been a very long time since I have been disappointed by the food in the city. Halal stands and various food trucks are superior in taste than the food we got served today. This place makes TriBeCa look bad.
Lauren and I stopped in for a couple of afternoon cocktails. We sat at the bar and chatted with their bartenders while they restocked the bar. Had a tremendous experience. Thanks!
Amazing bartender and nice atmosphere!
Great spot to have a cozy and lovely dinner. All the appetizers and meals we ordered were delicious. Me and guests shared all the meals so I got to try quite a few dishes.
The atmosphere is cool, and the service was fine. The food wasnt amazing. The noodles in the lobster noodle dish were reminiscent of the Mr. Noodle packs I used to eat while I was a student in uni...
Macao trading and company is my favorite bar in the city. Situated in the nice neighborhood of Tribeca, this hidden gem serves the best cocktails, fried rice and ambiance. A must try!
- excellent drinks- excellent service- excellent foodOverall, solid venue for drinks with friends or dinner. Always a great experience here.
Service was sweet with a smile, food was delicious. Recs from waitress were on point: peppers appetizer and brussel sprout salad. Fun vibe, open late. Loved it.
Like the space downstairs for parties when djs are playing. The food is a typical melange of South East Asia meets Portugal with flavors that linger in the crowds pleasing space. Wines by the glass leave a lot to be desired.
We walked in with a reservation outside, however it was cold out and we’re looking for an inside seat. We were told they had to check, and waited 10 minutes in an empty restaurant for them to seat us - was quite strange.Cocktails were delicious and different, steamed dumplings were a must! Donuts were a good finish, yummy sauces!
Ive always enjoyed eating there, the food is fantastic. Drinks are decent. the crowd builds fast, but the music is great for folks in the 30-40 range.
Went here a few months ago and had an amazing experience at the bar. Fantastic cocktails and good food. Probably the best bar service I had in NYC. Highly recommend!
Really tasty food in a very nice environment. The flavors tend to be on the Asian-Fusion end of the spectrum. There is some standard fair Macau food (Portuguese influenced Chinese). The whole fish is good, but could be crispier. Malasadas were unspectacular but the rest of what we ate was top notch.
Favorite spot for a late night drink... make sure to check out the Casino speakeasy downstairs on weekends 😀
Macao Trading Co. is a nice spot for a date night early on in a new relationship or a night out with a bunch of friends -- awesome, inventive drinks with lots of tropical fruits and solid food that has a strong Asian fusion bent (but in an okay-to-good way, not in a PF Chang way). Cool ambiance with an opium den-like feel, and slightly aloof waiters. I was a big fan of the braised shisito peppers although the fried rice was bland in my opinion, and the burrata was...strange. Not sure burrata belongs in Asian cuisnine, or perhaps it was an off night.Mains will run you $30-ish, apps just shy of $20. Come here for a party and a fun time, but dont expect to fill up as portions are small.
Beautiful restaurant but unfortunately the food simply isnt good. It tastes like something out of TJs frozen section but costs 120$ per person.
This hidden gem never disappoints when in the big 🍎 apple. Located down in the Tribeca-Soho border this restaurant is one of a kind. The food, drinks and atmosphere scream “ welcome”. The staff and team are the most enthusiastic and inviting you will meet so it’s a gem that I love to visit when in the city…
This is an amazing place if youre looking for a great night out. Drinks are perfect, service is awesome! this place is a must see place especially if your new to the city. And there are cabs all over.
Good after dinner spot. Crowd and staff were fun along with the selection of tunes. Didnt try any food but great hangout for drinks
Holy sexy! Macao is a fun time. The food menu is superb but the real stand out are the crafted cocktails. The team at Macao expertly mixes spirits and flavors together that will delight even the pickiest sipper. I recommend the Kaffir Gimlet. Kaffir and gin are a match mate in heaven! This is an awesome date spot tucked away in TriBeCa.
Went for appetizers. Ribs, calamari, and steamed dumplings were all delicious.
Food was amazing. We stuck to appetizers because we wanted to try a little bit of everything. The bbq ribs are a must as well as the bacon shrimp fried rice. The octopus was really good as well. If your gonna do dumplings imo steamed is the way to go. As far as drinks the Mata Hari was really good but my fav was Mah-Jong. Mah-jong was pretty strong, taste like a Manhattan. Oh yeah service was good too : ) My 4th time here so I have tried almost the whole menu
Fantastic food mostly got chinese and not to much of a portaguese influence here. But the interior design cannot be beat definitely one of the nicest place I have been to in the city for sure.
Great place for cocktails. Good environment. Top level food and incredible cocktails along. Liquor selection is top notch as well
Had a great time!
Good food, weak drinks. Very dark inside. Almost to the point you cant locate the food in front of you. Whole fish entree was some of the best Ive had.
I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, the guy’s at the bar are nice, the octopus was ok, I loved the shrimp scallion dumplings. I will come back.
This restaurant is not safe. My phone and credit cards were stolen and the managers did not help with anything. Dont go to that restaurant, your stuff will be stolen.
The food is just great, good atmosphere and kind service. I recommend all meals :)
Great atmosphere at Macão (Big Apple)...drinks were on the side of exorbitantly expensive...and not all that great. The No Mames was pretty tasty...and the margarita was the best. That one isnt on the menu.
Good spot, good drinks, excellent food.
Fun spot with great drinks and fun bartenders
One of the best Thai restaurants in town. I get takeout from here almost once a week. The Thai green curry is to die for and I also love the crab rangoon :)
Great food, great cocktails and the bar downstairs is a great addition. Try the Skirt Steak and the Orale Mezcal cocktail 🤌
Really cute decor, cocktails were very good, but food was a bit basic.
To preface, I don’t usually leave reviews, especially negative ones. However, this case is so outrageous that I feel morally obligated to speak up.I love this place, I come here all the time. Great vibes and ambiance in general.HOWEVER, the music selection recently makes me want to drip hot candle wax in my ears and permanently deafen myself. It is the worst playlist I’ve ever heard; it does not match the classy/sophisticated vibes of the establishment at all. If you imagine the worst and most auditorily abrasive and crass 2015 club music you’ve ever heard, it’s 10 times worse than that.Whoever controls the music needs to be fired (from music duty). As it is, the music completely ruins the experience of this otherwise elegant and laid back bar; I can’t bring my friends from out of town here anymore because the music is so consistently awful. Extremely disappointing. Please fix this or I fear I won’t be able to step foot in my (previously) favorite night spot again.
I love the space. Very creative. Real cool look to it. This is my second time there. Awesome bar. Food was good. Not great. Service was OK.
I kind of love this place even if the design is a bit Asian cheesecake factory. Drinks are great food is great people are super nice
Great food and hand crafted cocktails. Service was also excellent
Probably the best ribs, dumplings and truffle-croquettes I have ever had!! It’s a „must go“ restaurant in NYC
Its a great Portuguese/Asian fusion restaurant with exotic decor and good selections of cocktails. I love their Drunken Dragon cocktail and crispy whole fish, it was delicious.
Solid TriBeCa cocktail bar. Similar to the Employees Only bar in West Village. Cool crowd during the weekdays. Bridge and tunnel crowd does sometimes appear during the weekends. Ha!
The downstairs is small, but music is so great! I danced all night long. The bartender Ryan is the best! Ask for him!!
Lovely experience. Great drunks and ambience. Watching the head bartender was like watching a conductor- a true artist.
Very good dumplings and noodle dishes. Cool vibe
Came during the week once for the bar, it was cute. Came back on a Saturday night, the place was crowded, vibrant, and with a happy lounge downstairs!!! Great night out!
Wonderful place, great drinks, food was amazing!! Plus the dancing in the club was energetic!!
Cosy ambience but food was meh
The service and the food were absolutely wonderful :)
Food was ok, was expecting it to be better
Nice handcrafted cocktails. Lobster noodles were delicious.
Nice place to go for a drink. The mixologists take their job very seriously. Good vibes start from the doorman whos eager to please.
The king oyster and trumpet mushroom dish is stellar!
Excellent atmosphere and impeccable service. A truly great place to bring guests or a date for cocktails.
Very interesting foods, especially the sumptuous appetizers. limited wine list, but friendly service. id go back again....
The food was good, but the service was very rushed. The waiter cleared both of our meals before we were finished.
Walk in get a well crafted drink and when the music gets good, go downstairs to show your moves downstairs. The DJ was 4/7 when I went though
Macao has only gotten better over the years. Great food and staff. Creative cocktails. Fun decor.
Really excellent food. The whole fish and the ribs were delicious. The dumplings are also great. Its pretty noisy for my taste and they play music which I find really annoying when its noisy...
Amazing cocktails. Great vibes. There is always a party.
Impeccable, unique cuisine. I loved the lobster noodles, skirt steak and fried rice. Service was good and the vibe of the restaurant was similar to an upscale speakeasy—very laid back and cool. I also enjoyed the music selection. I highly recommend and look forward to returning and trying more food items on the menu.
Gabriel is one of the friendliest and skillful bartenders in town. And the free live music on Mondays is awesome!
The food was good but waitress was rude and pushy. I asked for separate checks and she said that she can no longer do it that they have an old system.
My superb girlfriend chunked a b day party for me here. She is awesome for this. Great food, drinks, and awesome dancing in the basement.
Good feel when you first get in, then you meet the pretentious bartender and wait staff. Yuck. Food was expensive and mediocre at best.. keep walking on by
Excellent spread of choices; The lobster noodles stood out to me because of the flavor in the noodles and how it coupled well with the lobster.
