We had a great experience with my friends at this historical place. The Cadillac burger is the best! Definitely we will visit this place again
Fantastic, historic tavern in the heart of Manhattan. Real old world vibe. The most delicious onion rings/strings Ive ever had! The bartender was super cool, and even the locals were chatty and really interesting.I absolutely love this pub - hopefully I can visit again. If youre in N Y just go.
I am not sure what to say with this one, I liked the historical feel of this pub, but disappointed in the service. We waited much too long for a table to be cleared that we were standing in front of, signaled for, and no service. However, I observed two other tables cleared for white patrons who arrived after we did and the tables were both larger than our table for two.It did not feel good, maybe I will return, or maybe not. Not sure what happened.
Speak easy vibe in NYC with great music, food, and drinks. Makes you feel like you’re one of the Goodfellas while you take down some of the best burgers around. This place is holding strong since 1884 and rightfully so. Looking forward to a return trip soon.
Long time iconic dining spot in NYC. The wide variety of fresh oysters and the oyster Rockefeller are a great way to start your meal. You cant go wrong with a burger from here, or a lobster roll. We prefer the Connecticut style over Maine.
Very nice historic place .Burger was solid and unique . Fries were not salty, very enjoyable. Would be happy to try more burgers .Dessert really hit the spot . Brownie Sunday all the way .Only negative it was quite cold inside .
Beautiful historical building and authentic interior. Good service. We were lucky - got table without reservation. Burgers are delicious!
I discovered this place by accident and Im glad I did. Theyre amazing. Went here with my family. I had the proper fish and chips with a Coors Light. The fish and fries were well cooked and well seasoned. I was disappointed the Coors Light was in a bottle and not on tap but thats not a deal breaker. My wife and daughter had cheeseburgers, which I had a few bites of. They were seasoned perfectly and tasted great. Big patties, too. My father-in-law had a shrimp cocktail and clam chowder and he said it was the best he ever had.The interior is quite old fashioned which is cool, even the bathrooms. The area where we sat was near the kitchen and right next to our table was the area where they prepare the clams. It was a memorable experience. We will definitely be eating here again when next were in the area.
Another super old school quintessential Upper East Side institution that delivers stiff drinks, and delicious food, served fresh and hot. Everything sampled down to the NY Cheesecake was great
Decent restaurant with working mans feel albeit with prices much higher. You will pay 25 for burger with fries and a separate salad is 16. Food quality is high , atmosphere is fun, perhaps a little loud but overall, a ppl comfortable place. Consistent and no surprises.
We just held a brunch for 14 people, no, 12, no 14. Staff was very courteous about coping with setting up the table, taking orders, and dealing with allergies and an animated crowd. The food was delicious, as were the drinks. Everyone was so friendly and cooperative! We left stuffed, satisfied, and very happy. Thanks, people!
It was an amazing experience. Since we set one foot into the place the atmosphere and service were great. The food was like a religious experience. We had the Christmas day special. The meat was so tasty and great, the cream potatoes were incredible. Desserts were something out of this world. The apple blueberry crisp was so delicious.I totally recommend the place, the service is very attentive and caring, the hospitality of the place is so warm. One of my top experiences while in NYC.Prices are ok according to the quality and quantity.
What a great place to stop its a genuine slice now original New York , Mazin the guy in charge is an excellent host he regaled us with stories of Sinatra, Sammy Davis amd Nat king cole all who used to frequent this place and the food was superb best burgers , I had the cadillac of burgers served by the lovely Patricia who actually knew Sinatra and to round off a truly fabulous visit we sat at the bar and the barman Drew was amazing, what a barman this guy is , the whole visit to PJ clarkes topped off a truly wonderful few Days in the BiG Apple , go to PJ Clarkes and see for yourself ,you will not be disappointed. Thanks to all there for making our visit to New York that extra bit special 😊
Nice and characteristic place with a good twist on seafood and burgers. The local is too dark to make you comfortable (it is even difficult to read the menu) and the personal could be more sympathetic, but ok, its New York.
PJ’s is a cross between an English pub and an American diner. Red and white tablecloths meet the dark, tight and pokey feel of a pub. The food is very solid but it’s not quite as good as I was expecting. I had the Trio of Burgers so I could try all that was on offer. The Classic Burger & Cadillac Burgers were quite bland. The best was the Blue Cheese & Onion Burger. I think it was the lack of flavour in the patty that brought it down. I also had the lobster roll which was perfectly good but nothing too special. The best dish of the day was PJs Cheesecake. Great size for the price and although I like a little more biscuit to cheese ratio it was still really light and creamy. I was disappointed by PJs because for the price you expect it be perfect.
Great place for food and fantastic service with a traditional vibe.Recommend: BBQ Blue
Wonderful food and great service. This was the best calamari Ive ever had.
Came here for dinner. We ordered:Eggplant and zucchini chips: breading on the vegetables was too salty but the dip served with it was amazing.Asparagus: surprisingly good! The egg doesn’t add much to the dish but I enjoyed the grilled taste to the vegetable.Cheeseburger: would order, again. The fries served with it are good. Not a fan of the bun, it seemed to fall apart under the pressure of the burger. The meat itself was a good amount of thickness as well as juicy but a bit of crunch. For the price, a very good choice.Brownies sundae: was impressed with the quality of the vanilla ice cream. I’m not traditionally a huge fan. The brownies were also good: chewy and a little crunchy on the outside.
What a wonderful night! Best burger I’ve had in quite a while and THE BEST cheesecake in NYC!!! Topped it off by celebrating my grandson Hudson’s birthday with the guys at PJ Clarke’s on 3rd. With Mazin’s help, and a few of his closest 50 friends gathered around, we joined in a rousing version of Happy Birthday and it couldn’t have been better. Thanks for an unforgettable night. Please visit soon and often, you won’t be disappointed…
Great burger and lobster roll (not pictured). The cocktails are always cold and delicious.
Such an emblematic NYC style restaurant, I went for The Bbq Blue burger and was really good, so juice, the blue cheese and the bbq brings a great taste so iconic! And for the dessert I ordered the fudge brownie sundae, it was just good.
Excellent dinner - Manager Mazin was the best, accommodated our Italian cousins and brought out complimentary limoncello and cheesecake after delightful conversation. Five stars!!
Long time NYC restaurant. I had a classic Caesar with grilled chicken, it was no better or worse than the average for NYC although missing white anchovies.Service was ok but devoid of personality. After our mains we were not offered dessert or coffee, so left after some wait for the check. If you want to try a dark wood, low light, New York institution then this fits the bill. If you are looking for a great meal and stellar service , there are many other options.
The best food I had in New York. Welcomed with an authentic New York cheer. The burger was excellent and very tasty. The restaurant and bar is an Oasis from the busu streets.
My wife had tomato soup, she said was excellent. Her parmesan crusted chicken breast was ok and had a soggy fatty crust. My ribeye was tough and flavorless. Caesar salad was good. Onion strings under cooked. For the money, I would not return.
Great food. To spend evening. Friendly and kindly personnel, Classic large space. Bar space for drinks to take inside. Sound of music from a jukebox. In a old fashion atmosphere. Restaurant for all ages. Try the Special recipes of fries. Burgers, Salads.
P. J. Clarkes is a bustling institution with a lively bar area and a cozy dining room in the rear. Dining tables are close to each other and service is efficient, yet could be a bit more warm and fuzzy. The menu offering is generous and offers something for everyone. If you are there for the first seating expect to be asked to vacate the table promptly after settling the bill. Best for lively group / family dinner as ambient noise in the dining room is rather high.
One wants to like PJ Clarkes on 3rd but at the end of your just ok meal you might want to go somewhere else.I ordered the parmesan encrusted chicken and received a Chick-fil-A sandwich size piece of chicken on a few leaves of Spinach. The parmesan coating was not really much at all. For this price of bird one forks over $28.My wife ordered a burger and remarked that she had experienced much better, such as Five Guys. The best thing we had was the cheesesteak egg rolls and if I had only known about the parmesan chicken I would have ordered three servings to make it a meal.In summary, nice bar for a drinkand appetizers but there are better values for ones hard earned dollars in NYC.The servers and service were excellent. The mens bathroom could use a cleaning sometime during the day.
If you want warm and comfortable service in NY, this is the place. The bartender could have dropped the drink in front of me during the busy service, but instead, he walked all the way around the bar, served me my drink, introduced himself and welcomed me to the little corner of the bar. How do you get better than that? Food is perfectly cooked, and tast. Great spot!! Pot pie is incredible.
The original (c. 1884) and the best, the 3rd Avenue PJ Clarke’s has the air of old NYC, a bygone era of care-free saloon dining. The burger remains my go to dish, and the chopped salmon salad is also a favorite. The scene is boisterous and intoxicating.
One of the few notable NYC restaurants that boasts its history and excellence simultaneously. The best quality beers on tap and unbelievably welcoming service from every single staff here. What a breathtaking decoration, not to mention, and the foods are stuffing both your stomach and soul.
Came here for a quick late night fix!! The hubby had been wanting some oysters for a while and I called around to at least 10 places before finding P.J. Clarke’s. Nice to see at least one restaurant is still full service at 11 o’clock pm on a Saturday night (I thought this was supposed to be the city that never sleeps 🙄).They only had East Coast Oysters available but a variety of clams to accompany them, with all the fixings… including Tabasco sauce, in case you were wondering! And their brownie sundae wasn’t too bad either! Soft and warm with crispy edges with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce… can’t go wrong!
Probably one of the best burger with great portion & price I’ve had in NYC. Came on a Sunday afternoon and the dining area is not pack at all - love it!
My wife and I used to love this place, dining and drinking there pretty much once a week for six years. But after moving to San Francisco we only recently had the opportunity to visit the old haunt. The people are still great. Our bartender Theruni was very pleasant and made good martinis. Our server at dinner was attentive and cheerful. It’s the food offerings that have gone downhill. We were there quite early (6pm) after a Sunday theater matinee, yet they were out of oysters. The place no longer serves creamed spinach; okay, tastes change, what other vegetables are available? French fries—and, literally, only French fries.Or a salad maybe, but not the Bleu cheese wedge anymore, or anything creative in the slightest.Wife had a decent, not great, steak; I was served a gigantic chicken paillard that covered the entire plate, with a tiny garnish of spinach. It came out dry and uninteresting.Perhaps the burgers are still good. Otherwise, sadly, the original P.J.Clarke’s is no longer worth a visit.
Cool brick building in the middle of office-y midtown, worth it for the old school charm alone. We also had a very delicious chicken pot pie. After sharing an issue (probably a fluke) with our excellent server, she removed the item from our check without our asking. How you handle these one-off occurrences says a lot, and we went away feeling appreciative and impressed.
The quintessential local old-time Irish bar of Manhattan. An absolute MUST STOP and hope that Jerry is bartending! All the food on the menu is delicious! You wont be sad you stopped here! Come hungry and thirsty and ready to meet the nicest people of Manhattan!
We were sat right away without a reservation on a Saturday night, but the restaurant was still packed! The oysters were great, and the lobster roll was great too but the cheesecake stole the show. Highly recommend!
Oysters and shrimp are what’s best here for food. The atmosphere and drink is enlivened only in so much of yesteryear’s days. Famous folks like Sinatra and Holiday apparently visited this location. There are numerous other locations in the city as well.
The bloody marry was HORRIBLE. Cocktail sauce and pepper it tasted like. Burgers were rare soup was great. Very disappointing experience.
Great NYC experience ... a must stop when visiting
Classic New York that NEVER disappoints. This is our go to place for Christmas Eve dinner and for taking out of town visitors. The burgers and cocktails are ALWAYS on point. And definitely treat yourself to the raw bar.Great staff, relaxed vibe thats also romantic and cozy, old New York which is harder and harder to come by. Proud to have this P.J.s in our neighborhood!
Not only was the food delicious, but the service was great! And the consideration given to my party, considering half of them were late; was very much appreciated. Mazin took my reservation, welcomed us; and made us feel life regulars from the moment we walked in. I’ll be back first chance I get!
What a great surprise! Super nice service and food is pretty good! (Do not take the oyster which are meh) but the chicken wings are delicious, the burger is pretty legit! Would totally recommend that spot!
Great NYC atmosphere. Great food! Superb wait staff. We felt welcome and well taken care of. We’ll definitely be back. The wagyu burger was awesome.
Best old world bar in nyc
There’s a bit of an up charge for the historic ambience. My tiny Irish waitress informed that corned beef is a pain in the neck to make so whatever they are doing here it must be working because the corned beef Reuben is 12/10 and keeps me coming back. The only reason I’m not giving them 5 stars is because we got seated next to an older man who coughed through our entire meal.
First time coming to this historic restaurant. We got there at 11:45pm on a Tuesday, close to kitchen closing. The manager was the nicest guy, greeting us with a smile and said if your hungry we will keep the kitchen open for you.Thinking it was an Irish bar I was surprised when he offered the best shrimp cocktail or oysters, Clams on the half shell. He also recommended the best pint of Guinness. We took him up on his Guinness. It was the best Guinness I ever had, creamy and fresh I highly recommend it.Next I ordered the clams on the half shell. I was shocked how good and fresh they were . We also got the shrimp cocktail it was huge, the biggest shrimp I had seen.My main was the beer battered Fish and chips. Again , it was cooked perfectly with a delightful crunch and flaky fish inside. I never expected this kind of quality food at midnight. We all were full and happy at the end of out meal. You cant go wrong here, cant wait to go back again soon.
Classic cocktails, fresh food in generous portions, and beautifully restored 19th-century interiors! This place was already historic when the real Mad Men drank and dined here in the 60s. From floor to ceiling, every inch is packed with character and charm. Some iconic establishments fill their walls with photographs of politicians and celebrities who visited over the years. Despite hosting some of the biggest names from around the world, this place chooses to fill its walls with photographs of the legendary bartenders whove loyally served its customers for 160 years. Priorities!Spin some oldies on the juke box and fill your belly at this hallmark of American culture.
The lobster roll and the Cadillac burger were absolutely amazing! Large portions. I visit a P.J. Clarks restaurant every time I come to NYC.
We walked in without reservation and directly got a table. But we were very early. :-)Food was delicious 😋Thanx
Loved this place! The staff were so friendly and inviting and were so patient with us as we needed time to decide what to choose. The chicken pot pie was incredible, the portion was huge, it was comfort food at its best. Could not fault anything. Highly recommend
Stopped here randomly with a friend while being a tiny bit intoxicated on a late evening. We both had the brisket + mashed potatoes which was scrumptious, and we shared a cheesecake for dessert and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. NYC at its best
This would not normally be my go-to but today while in midtown it hit the spot. Amazing Manhattan cocktails, oysters, salmon and apple crisp with ice cream. And service was awesome.
Great salmon with lots of good burger options. A variety of seafood appetizers and entrees as well.
Delicious food. My kids say this was the best burger they ever had. The atmosphere was amazing. 5 stars to everything.
Loved our meal at PJ Clarkes! They made my birthday great! The waiter was amazing and Im craving their breakfast burger again!! The cheesecake was huge and the absolute best cheesecake Ive ever had. Now that Im back home in NC, Im wishing I could have it delivered!!!
We went there for the burgers, and its now one of my favorite burger experiences in NYC. Its a straightforward simple burger but so good. I loved the fries too. Had the crunchiness of your good fast-food fries without the chemicals (at least I hope). The wait staff was great. But it did take 15 min past our reservation to get our table ready, so build that into your expectations.
One of the bests hamburgers in NYC
This is a cool, old-timey, pub with an oyster bar. They have a great selection of booze. I didnt look at the food menu, but the dining room was packed. If Im ever in this neighborhood, Ill go back.
Best food we had in NYC. Great service and history to the place. Amazing cheesecake, best weve ever had.
A cozy old joint serving traditional American food - great burgers and fries and beers on tap! Excellent food and service. Came here at about 11pm and their fries were still fresh! 👌🏽Stays open until late so great for folks getting off work late or coming in from out of town late - airline crews.
My only complaint was the noise: Hard to have a conversation. On the other hand the cheesecake was fabulous .
I love this place… I always have a good time, good food and one of the best Campari spritz!!
Great atmosphere. Everyone was very friendly. Food was great. Loved it.
Ordered the falafel Burger added lettuce, tomatoes, sauteed onions ,and mushrooms got the homemade tots. My husband got the chicken sandwich. Food was good over all. Server guy seemed to be quite distracted while serving us during our time in the restaurant.
Best burger! Cheesecake was also phenomenal. Customer service was top notch. Love this place.
Excellent appetizers, bartender was top notch in the atmosphere from being in 150-year-old. 150-year-old bar was amazing. A must see!
I really enjoyed my brief experience at PJ Clarke’s. The burger melts in the mouth, breaking apart so fast because of how tender it is. The generous helping of fries is a nice touch as well.I also got a Michters No1 neat, so I was pleasantly surprised to get such a good offering of bourbon at a reasonable price.Ultimately I couldn’t rate this as 5* because, while good, the burger was over $20. Give it to me for $16 and I’d give the extra star
Great atmosphere with diner style decour and classic service with the wait staff dressed smartly and showing courtesy. I had the burger which was made diner-style and tasted very good. The cheesecake was classic NY style and I enjoyed it too. The bar had a great atmosphere. To be more specific, the dishes were made to good restaurant standard, but the extra is what really makes PJ Clarkes a great place to go.
Visited this lovely tradition pub/bar on our recent visit to the city. Was right next to our hotel so managed to visit a few times. Unfortunately we didnt get to dine and only had drinks. An extensive selection of drinks and great cocktails served in a vibrant atmosphere. Loved it!.
Best burger on the east side .........are my first one there 40 years ago
Incredible food. Beautiful old pub. Great place to meet friends, colleagues, etc. Service was great and staff was very friendly and attentive. Will definitely return on my next trip to NYC.
First time there yesterday since friends and I were visiting the city. Manager I believe was greeted us at the door super friendly, and our Bartender was kind and friendly and very attentive! The food was great and delicious. The oysters and the Mac and Cheese were definitely the start of the show. There is one in Dc where I am from and looking forward to trying the one there since this location was so great! Definitely will come back to this location when Im in NYC again!
Time-Tested Gem for Lunch and Dinner! 🍔🐟🍟P J Clarke’s in New York is a true icon when it comes to dining out. Whether it’s lunch or dinner, this place never fails to impress! The locations are simply amazing, offering a charming ambiance that perfectly complements the outstanding service. The food? Oh, it’s beyond amazing! From their mouthwatering hamburgers to the crispy fish and chips and the decadent lobster rolls, every dish is a culinary delight. The flavors are rich and satisfying, making each bite a true pleasure. And let’s not forget about the oyster bar! If you’re a fan of fresh seafood, this is a must-visit spot. The selection is top-notch, and the oysters are always served with precision and care.In summary, P J Clarke’s is a timeless classic that should not be missed. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, make sure to stop by for an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommended! 🍔🐟🍟
I always walked by and knew the name from living in Chicago. The iconic building always intrigued me and last night, I was lucky to find a table during peak dinner rush.I was guided to their newly rennovated Sidecar. We sat upstairs and loved being able to look over 3rd avenue. The service was so attentive -- from being immediately greeted to the servers always offering to clear plates and offer new ones. I had the Cadillac burger and it came with a generous portion of french fries. The desserts surpassd expectation, i got the brownie sundae but learned the cheesecake and apple crisp are made in-house so I need to come back and try that.Shout out to my server Nicole and Marianna for making PJ Clarkes especially memorable and a new found staple in my dinner rotation in midtown.
I love the foods in P.J Clarrkes, one of the best burgers in the city, great steaks and drinks.
Really good atmosphere with good food at a great price, will definitely be back next time we’re in New York. Shout out to the guy with the skull rings, Top Man.
A nice restaurant with a chill ambience. I enjoyed a delicious burger. The portions are good and they have great service.
A New York staple. Food was impecable, the atmosphere is like a time capsule. Eating here you know it’s a special place loaded with history.
One of the best hamburgers in the neighborhood.I had the BBQ blue cheese hamburger, every bite is so great.Love the food and the atmosphere.
Horrible!!! We normally go to the P.J’s by Columbus circle, they are wonderful! This place was a mess the bald guy in front I’m assuming is the manager is not hospitable at all, has a giant chip on his shoulder! Waitress was nice, she was the only good experience…Place is Super small and tight!Steak was tough and fatty, butter was frozen!!! Waste of money!!!GO TO P.J. Clarkes, on 44 W 63rd St, Lincoln Square, New York, NY 10023, they treat you like family! They are welcoming and know how to cook a steak properly, also they put the butter on top so it’s nice and melted when you get it!Not so frozen that it actually gets the meat cold!Son’s birthday dinner was ruined!Going home to cook, thanks for nothing!!!
Delicious and fun! The manager had us get behind the bar for a pic 😂 Greek martini was great, as was the New Yorker burger.
Friendly bar tender, easy to go here and strike up a convo with and older vibe. Good burger and fries. They have a wedge salad 😊
The location is very nice and typical.the service didn’t really convince me. we called asking if any gluten-free dishes were available and they told me so. we made a reservation. when we arrived they asked us to wait 30 minutes for our table (even if we reserved it!). when we sat down very few gluten-free dishes were available.the quality of the food is good but the service really needs a brush-up.
We had a wonderful time there. The food was excellent, the Jumbo Lobster roll was delicious. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Mike, was really helpful and friendly.
Our server was amazing! The Lobster Roll was really great. The atmosphere is dark and cozy.
I have no idea how anyone can post anything but a 5-star review on this place. We had a FANTASTIC experience, and I doubt that future visits, if we lived there, would change. Drew was our bartender, and he combined personality, energy, and efficiency perfectly. Sometimes the staff sort of makes your experience, and he did exactly that. The place itself oozes with history and nostalgia. Yes, I even am posting a pic of the bathroom ceiling. Wife had a very well made French 75. I had the local IPA by Six Point. They have the old school jukebox and if Drew is working, play All Along The Watchtower for him. He will love you for it. Dont play Janis Joplin. The burger was solid, and that was a main reason we went there. It was well worth the $24. The oysters were also worth the 6 for $24. The chowder was also solid. Good mix of regulars, other service industry people, and sports fans during our visit. There are a lot of places in NYC obviously, but if nearby Midtown, you should definitely schedule an hour or two for here. Definitely recommend and see you there (the next time we are in NYC).
Great spit and solid menu and selection of drinks. Vibrant atmosphere and good service.
Landmark restaurant between Upper East Side and Mid Town.Great burgers, fried chicken, fish, shellfish and salads.Has an old fashion bar.
Old New York style restaurant, very charming and mostly fed with typical new yorkers. Very elegant. The service is always great (weve been there twice).
A great combination of drinks, atmosphere and food. It’s a good after work watering hole and spot for dinner with friends and family. The bartenders although busy were attentive and friendly. Our waiter was efficient, available and friendly. The host was able to fit us in even though we didn’t have reservations. We had a great experience!!
If you want to live an experience that stays with you for a lifetime, this is the place. Youre going to want to come back, thats for sure. Get involved in its magic, ask for the hamburger that you like the most, and a drink from the bartenders menu, which is excellent. For dessert, you cannot miss the best Cheesecake in New York. The owner treated us as lifelong friends. I will come back, and I know now I have friends to visit in this place too. Thanks for everything! I take it in my heart!
Great old school joint with a good simple menu and great atmosphere.
Burger and cocktails were everything I had heard. Great atmosphere and the staff really was attentive and awesome. Iconic place and will be back!
Excellent, simple Classic Burger. Place has a good vibe too.
Good food & drink. Bad condition. I was there on xmas. It was crazy packed. Despite that, the food was great. I had a burger and friend had crab cakes. I was shocked, however to see the condition of the mens room. It was really shamefully disgusting. The whole room was horribly maintained. Just as an example, see the sink in this pic.
A fun pub with both standing room and seating for food. Good service, strong drinks, with an old school feeling. Theres a jukebox thats got some classics on it. It was poppin on St. Patricks Day.
The vibe of this restaurant is so nice, built in the 1800s the decor looks like it has not changed at all. I got the bbq blue burger and it was great. Blue cheese can be overwhelming but it was really tasty on this burger. The party was cooked well and was juicy and not too greasy. The fries are thin and crispy. I think they could’ve been salted a bit more but that’s easy to remedy. The espresso martini is strong on the espresso which I like, not too liquify tasting and the cheesecake is sweet and creamy.Overall a really cozy environment with tasty food.
Great place to meet up with friends and enjoy drinks and good food.
Perfect draft of Guinness and a 1930 cocktail with the Clarke Burger and a Lobster 🦞 Roll, we loved it all. Waitress checked on us too. The food was amazing 👏 🤩We will be back for sure!
Dare I say it ? One of the BEST drinks that I ever had. Draft Beer is my go-to when I sit by the bar. But not this time...
Loved it but please give me another vegetable! Good old Irish pub with history and great character. It struck us as well managed by GM Mazin Manahi who, among many other things directs traffic and helps people. He went out of his way for us as did our server Sara who put up with our pesty requests. We had burgers and a steak. Food is better than most Irish pubs. My beef....It is great you have brussels sprouts as an appetizer and they are good. But give us at a minimum one other side, preferably non rich, vegetable! Please! Carrots, asparagus, medley .... anything! Then I can give you 5 stars!
Great food and snack selection! Drinks were good and service was superb even though we got here near closing time
Classic old pub atmosphere. I had the au poivre with regular fries. I wouldve liked a bit more salt on the fries, but they were still great and fresh. Wide choice of drinks.
Got to restaurant and put name on list. Hostess said 45 minutes. After an hour 15 minutes we were told we were the next table. The next table became available and host took another party to our table. When confronting the host he says sorry this person is an investor. What investor wants to displace paying revenue? What investor walks into a restaurant when people have been waiting over an hour. And thinks it is ok to walk in and be seated immediately? Normally an owner doesnt force their way in and inconvenience paying clients? When confronting host he says sorry had to take care of an investor. What a horrible way for a restaurant to operate? Been going here for over twenty years. Was treated like a piece of dirt.
My Husband and I stopped in after some shopping and for a good reason. We wanted to see why this place was Frank Sinatras favorite spot. Now we know!! This Pub is ran by the upmost nicest and professional people. We were greeted by the General Manager, Mazin. His way of making us feel welcome was exceptional. Hes a super nice guy. Our server was just as nice as she could be. We ordered a few drinks and shared the Cheesesteak eggrolls. Oh my gawd they were scrumptious! We took to go their Chicken Pot Pie along with some bread & butter and HATS OFF TO THE CHEF! The food is simply amazing. The location of this Pub is superb and a short walk to Rockefeller Center. We will never go back to NYC without stopping in to see a few friendly faces, cold beer and good eats. Thank you so much Mazin for giving us an authentic memory of NYC!
The Burgers are amazing. My favorite one is the BBQ !!
Fantastic food & service. Destiny was a terrific server. U had the Reuben and the others had the Cadillac Burger. All were excellent, especially the Reuben. The fries are delicious as well as the NY Cheesecake & Key Lime Pie.
Im not a fan of oysters but everyone mentions them so I had to give them a try. Well worth it. The burger was good too. Service is great and the experience is not rushed.
Great service, and the food was amazing!
This burger bar is a NYC staple: if you havent had a burger at PJs, youre missing out on a genuine New York experience. The place is as real as it gets: the bar is cozy, the restaurant is neatly old-school, and the burgers are phenomenal (even the turkey burger!)👌
This is in my opinion one of the top five spots in NYC for a classic burger. The oysters were great and the spicy wings were excellent.
Great NY Saloon!!!! Great pour of Guinness, great food, fantastic bartender who happened to share my name,Gerry.Great friendly atmosphere
Classic NYC. BEST oysters & burgers. Sit at the bar for the greatest service by these classic style bartenders, who wont forget your name. I always go alone. I just love it so! A perfectly crafted Martini or 5... a set of oysters (Wellfleet, of course) and a burger. Heaven.
Great burger
Love the outdoor seating but their famous burger disappointed us. Too much salt maybe
This place has great atmosphere and a good selection of American dishes. I enjoyed my fish and chips while my friend had the chicken pie. There is a very lively bar section followed by a dine in selection. Service was very personal and efficient. I enjoyed the authentic American experience.
Great atmoshpere - original 100yo building. Just walked in after a short walk from our hotel. Host was awesome and kept track of us while we waited. Had the chile wings, some were mile, others hot - but they were excellent. Wife had a chicken dish that was fantastic, fish and chips were the real deal. Steak frites were good - not great but decent. Excellent service and pacing to the meal. Totally recommend going, you wont be disappointed
What a shame the owners felt it necessary to clean up the place and scrub away its timeless charm. The burger is still great, but the iconic lasagna only appears once a week. and the magnificent french onion soup and sautéed mushrooms are gone. Times have changed. They didnt have to, but they did. Ill still eat there, but they really have lost some magic.
Burgers were great and the calamari was excellent.
Great banter at this midtown institution (mainly from bar staff!). I havent eaten there for years, so cannot judge that, but Ive watched plenty of people enjoying their burgers, etc.
If you want to order in you have to do it from GRUBHUB and thats a problem as they dont have everything on the menu. My Grandson wanted Chicken Pot Pie, my wife wanted shrimp. Both available at 53 St. Not available on Grubhub. We overcame it but thats a problem. Come on guys
Cool place with super staff and atmosphere. Nice New York experience!
I have always heard nice things about PJs... early dinner...good spot to meet new people and hang out!! I will revisit.
Great burger, the service needs improvement. The view is incredible.
I had made a reservation here not realizing it was a bar. However the bartender was awesome, taking my order from the side table I sat at. Food was delicious and the bartender was friendly and attentive. Not sure if reserving a table at this place really does anything. No one seemed to be expecting reservations in general.
Nice place! Great service and food! A bigger choice of craft beers would be good.
This place has the formula down right. Veteran servers and bartenders, a solid and reliable menu, great decor mixing the old with the new and a lively place for old classics. I got the fish and chips, perfectly battered fresh cod wrapped in a faux newspaper cone with shoestring fries on the side. Served with lemon, malt vinegar, ketchup and tartar sauce. The tartar sauce blew me away - so many nuanced flavors (dill? garlic?) when normally I am not a fan! The music selection was on point tonight too. Great to bop along to with the meal.
Place is open for many good hours. it is packed during busy hours so better come early. location is wonderful and atmosphere is very new York. food is good and quick to serve. well come again
A lovely place from 1882. I got a broken glass...
Burger was delicious and staff was great.
Delicious burgers. Never disappoints.
Food was delicious! Recommend the baked macncheese! Not an oyster fan, but they had many options for those. Great vibe inside, we didnt have a reservation so opted for an outdoor table. A bit on a slant but not uncomfortable. Still great service, the waiter checked on us often, very friendly and accommodating.
For the uninitiated let it be known that P.J. Clarkes is a classy joint, steeped in tradition but not pretentious. Service is professional and courteous; on multiple visits I have always been impressed by the welcome and goodbye from the staff here. On my last visit I had the iconic Cadillac cheeseburger, did not disappoint. Served quickly and consistently anytime, if you’re looking to duck in off the congested streets of Manhattan for a bite to eat or a drink in a calm environment, I couldn’t imagine anywhere better.
One of the Best Hamburger that I have tried around the world, definetly the Cadillac of burgers
Was informed by many, that P.J. Clarkes had the best burgers around. Guess theyve never had a good burger. First, the burgers came out within minutes of ordering them so theyre pre cooked... It seems. Secondly, they had no taste whatsoever - not even salt. Ordered dessert, which took 20 minutes longer than the burgers. Busy place on a Thursday. Service was good except for them standing over the table rushing us out. May return to try a different item on the menu but DEFINITELY NOT a burger.
Food was legit! I got the chicken pot pie it was only lukewarm but the fried calamari is probably the best I have had in a long while. Fries was good too. My friends’ dishes looked great. One missing star, it was loud there, I can’t imagine enjoying a meal other than a business lunch. Will consider take out…
Best burger I’ve ever had (Cadillac burger) and my party also had the Clarke and Trio. They were amazing. Desserts were also brilliant as was the service.
Very attentive service, excellent food and nice interior. The waiter made us feel welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. The lobster salad was fresh and delectable, and the truffle fries were amazing. My friend had one of their signature burgers which is always a winner!
This place is great , I’m so glad I came here . Will definitely be coming here again when I visit this country .
Perfect Manhattan, shrimp cocktail, & famous Clarkes burger were all top notch...great lunch!
Great food, but the service was sub par. I decided to eat here because I remember an episode of Mad Men when the restaurant was featured. The waiter didn’t check on us unless I got his attention but paid an exceptional amount of attention and tending to other guests. The burger was delicious, and the cocktails too, but please tend to all of your guests. I shouldn’t have to track down my server when I need assistance.
The food was enjoyable, but the wait time was approximately 40 minutes, which felt quite long. While the servers were friendly and attentive, the host, who was tall and dressed in a black dress, lacked warmth and did not greet customers with a smile, which was disappointing.
Great staff. Very efficient and excellent burger 👍
This is the best restaurant in the United States!
I usually dont give high reviews to pubs -- lets face it, the food is usually mediocre at best. But not here.Seriously good food worth having for delivery if you want. The hamburgers are all excellent, the fish and chips is really good, and most of the appetizers are good too. Even the mashed potatoes are great! The pub itself is legendary and the staff are all nice -- but this is one of the few pubs that has really good food too!
Excellent Oysters! I had 30!!! Salmon Crudo is also really good : )
Original is what describes this establishment. Very old building buy very clean. Parked in garage near restaurant. Very convenient. Best $17 Cheesesteak Eggrolls I have ever had!We were visiting from Jersey. I had to keep telling myself that the prices are Manhattan prices. Good service, friendly staff and other customers. We ordered the Cadillac Burger the baked macaroni and cheese and piece of cheesecake, which was big enough for us to share. Added Lobster to the baked macaroni and cheese which came out very good. Be prepared to pay for quality. Overall good experience. We would come back or visit other locations.
The Hamburger was delicious. I really recommend this restaurant.
The best meal we had in NYC, and no queues / not hard to get a table!! The burger was one of the best we’ve ever had. Our only regret is not going again!
This place opened in 1884 and I can see why they are still here and doing so wellI came for the Clarke burger and it did not disappointNothing fancy about the burger, just the classic done really wellps: asked for sautéed onions and I think it did add to the overall flavor
Bar is cool but not food!
Invited by a friend. The venue is totally incredible and fascinating. Food excellent and service great. We will be back. Need to reserve a table in due time.
Vibrant atmosphere, really good food. Went there after arriving from a really long travel day and enjoyed the energy and the vibe. Burgers were big, a little under cooked but still very good. The wings appetizer was delicious. Tater tots were unique but tasted fine, the texture was different, but definitely not out of a frozen bag. Service wasefficient. Seemed like a nice place to hang out.
Excellent service. The food quality was fantastic. Drinks were priced high but were served clean and efficiently. The bloody mary was delicious. The oyster sampler was fantastic. The wait staff is very attentive and eager to please. The cleanliness is incredible and refreshing to see. Each table gets a fresh table cloth before patrons are seated. Definitely will come back.
Nice burger & nice service
Always love coming here. Friendly staff. Great drinks. Good food.We returned on Sunday, May 29, 2022 for dinner. I feel like it has improved. The menu has a lot of options. I love the chocolate mousse, now that mention it.
Ive been there three times. Tonight was third/last. Ordered burger cooked well done and it was served less than 60 seconds later - completely raw. It was probably on grill at most 15 of those 60 seconds after I ordered. Exterior 0.5mm of burger looked brown enough, but it was just from grease. It had consistency of raw ground beef and was completely cold and red on the inside. I took one bite and pushed food to middle of table. Waitress came and asked if I was full (not a joke, after one bite of food). I said no and she immediately said shed be back with check and walked away. So I spent a total of 5 minutes in restaurant and waitress didnt ask if there was a problem with food. Amazing. Will never go again and wont recommend to anyone. Wont let me give zero stars, otherwise I wouldnt have given it one.
Great bar scene. Awesome burgers that are just the right size. Reasonably.priced. Good bourbon selection. Youll see singles, families and old couples. Place was slammed from 8 to 10 pm on a Friday night. Service was good but not great.
Ate here twice during a recent stay in mid-town and loved it. The food is exceptionally good for this price range. They have a good range of real ales. The service is fast and friendly and the menu is varied. I can really recommend the ribs - they were delicious and just fell off the bone. The New York cheesecake also excellent. The place was heaving on Saturday night, but the service was still slick. Wouldnt hesitate to return.
Great dinner, fun atmosphere.Mix of tourists and locals stopping in after work, or post-shopping.Shrimp cocktail was awesome, fresh and flavorful.Well worth the money.Burgers were very good, cooked perfectly.Toppings were fresh, especially good pickles.Nice beer selection, friendly bartenders.Boys, check out the bathroom, talk about old-school.
Simple and with an amazing quality! Excellent! The meat is very juicy and not fatty at all, you can really taste it! Place is very classic and relaxed and the service is great!
I had bragged about the food but was quite disappointed. The Irish Milkshake was watery. The Fish & Chips portion has changed drastically, much smaller than before.
You can tell this is an emblematic spot in the city. The food was really good. Drinks were fire. Had a great time
A great historical pub dating from the 1800s. All brick building sitting by itself. Easy to find. Fresh oysters and clams that were very tasty. Good menu and beer selection as you would expect in an Irish pub . Service was prompt and efficient. We ordered and had our food very promptly but not so fast that it compromised quality and taste. Would definitely go back. A busy but excellent pub!!Enjoy!!
Amazing service, went to celebrate my brothers birthday and the attention and courtesy we received from the staff was beyond impressive. And the food was phenomenal. Had the Cadillac Burger and it lived up to its name. The appetizers were amazing as well as the dessert.
The service & food were excellent. Oysters Rockefeller & crab cakes were both cooked to perfection!
First time back in a while. The burgers, fries, oysters and deserts were just as good as we remembered. Great service all around. Props to the manager, Stephen for holding it down on a Friday night. Also shoutout to Danny, working the raw bar. Those oysters were amazing. We’ll be back.
This place is amazing! My mom used to prowl this joint back in the eighties. The food is amazing, the service is excellent. The atmosphere is like no other. Seriously, you need to come check this place out. It is a Manhattan classic! Plus, the burgers are out of this world!
Great atmosphere and great burgers! Friendly staff.
Some of the best burgers I have ever had -- best Ive had in my limited NYC experience. The staff was so friendly that this lost tourist felt right at home right away. I loved the historical building and ambience. If youre looking for that unique NYC dining experience, I suggest here.
While being a traditional NYC place, it is just okay as a restaurant. The burger I had was good, but not great. The oysters were okay. The mussels were not bad. It might be your kind of place, but dont rush over expecting culinary excellence. If you are looking for old style NYC ambiance, then you might have found your place.
I have been to this place so many times in the past years and it never changes, the vibe is phenomenal with the dim lights and the walls covered in old pictures. The food is worthy the price and the cocktails are pretty good too. PS If you go there for a romantic dinner you can ask to be seated in the small niche they have right before the main dining room!
Excellent food and very attentive service. This is old school dining so know that in advance and you should be happy.
Cool and historic 1800s spot that was once frequented by Sinatra and Jackie Kennedy. Decent beers on tap and great burgers. The happy hour specials are awesome. $1 clams and $2 oysters. You cant go wrong. The regular prices are a little on the expensive side but it is midtown so not abnormal. The bartender, Jerry is awesome and will take good care of you. Stop by and say hello!
A living legend! One of the last of the great casual yet chic hang outs of NYC.... A definite MUST for a visit to this city!
The establishment is easy to find, big, and welcoming. The atmosphere is great, it is loud inside though. The service is great and really attentive if you need anything. We went for lunch and the food was lovely and a lot for the price. The food came all at once as well for being a busy time. Overall I would come back. 10/10 would recommend.
Very good burger, BBQ Bleu Burger, yet possibly a bit overpriced. I guess you pay for location, name and atmosphere. The bar is quite old and hence the interior reflects that. That definitely makes it worth spending so time and money here. The bartender Gary is the classic kind of bartender you want to have in a place like this: you never feel like a stranger. Thank you!
Everything’s nice!! Luis is our server he is the best!!
Our server, Molly was amazing. The rest of the staff helped us with anything we needed while she was very busy(day of the marathon and the place was slammed). everything was lovely and prompt. As someone who works in the industry, Im very impressed. My salmon was great, and my long island iced tea was delicious and I was drunk after 1! so kuddos to the bartenders as well. excellent experience.
Always 10/10 food and service.
Went with 4 people all had different entries, the burger was good fries were the usual, but the steak Entree was especially tasty, they have a really good sauce. Salmon was good and their chicken pot pie was on the saucy-er side.
An very pleasant experience at PJ Clarks. We got seated right away. Ordered burgers and they came out very quickly. They were juicy and cooked perfectly to order. The fries were good. It was a very good atmosphere with the waiter and the bar tender being very friendly. Such a good experience.
I went to dine in last night and absolutely loved it. I ordered the the Cadillac burger , it was delicious. The service was on point, very professional, I appreciate that. The atmosphere is very old fashion, a lot of charm. Totally recommend this restaurant.
There was an issue with all of the food at my table. My fish and chips had 1 piece that was burnt, 1 piece that had breading that wasnt all the way cooked, and one piece that was mostly breading with barely any fish. The fries were cold and over fried. I could go on but there is no point.
Absolutely loved P.J. Clarkes 100% recommend it for anybody coming into New York for vacation and even some locals who may have never given it a shot. Lets first start off with the service, the service was amazing! Our waitress was on point. She kept up with all of our oyster needs and drinks as well she didnt miss a beat! Nextly the food. Where to begin when talking about the food? Lets start with the appetizers we got the delicious deluxe appiters which was half a lobster, 6 east coast oysters, 6 littleneck claims, and 6 bloodspot claims and four jumbo shrimp along with a dozen of oysters. Everything tasted amazing and we ended up with four dozens of oysters that had two types of oysters served, I dont know the species sadly, but they were delicious. Nextly I ordered the 8 Oz. Filet mignon medium rare. Let me say they didnt add any unnecessary flavoring simply pit sea salt on the steak and cooked it and wow was the flavor amazing the meat almost melted in your mouth. I also ordered truffle fries and baked macaroni and cheese. The truffle fries were delicious and really caught me off guard with the flavor profile of simple French fries. The macaroni and cheese really tripped me out being from Kentucky I never had peas in my Mac and cheese and honestly I wasnt expecting how well it went together. Lastly and probably the best part of the night was meeting the manager after dinner his name was Mazin Manahi, he took time out of his day to talk with us and get to know us. We really appreciated his time to talk with us and really made the trip personal and look forward to coming and seeing our new friend again!
As always this place is great. I had the burger and the fries are always fantastic. A Gibson, perfectly shaken with 3 tasty pearl onions. The whole meal was nice, service was great and i was able to review the days headlines quite comfortably.
STILL HOLDING ITS OWNamid the towers of east Midtown, this venerable bit of New York still delivers good hamburgers and massive servings of pricey shellfish detailed daily on a chalkboard. Servers are veterans in white aprons of the sort Damon Runyon would recognize. The food was good, and I am glad to see the place weathered COVID-19, not to mention Prohibition and the Great War.
No reservations needed. Entrance to this place is on the side street. Nice selection of cocktails and food. Server was friendly and fast. Burgers were delicious.
This is my local joint and while prices are high the service and quality are equally high. I like the professional bartenders. They can make anything including that weird drink that girl ordered. The food is good. Burgers, calamari, Mac & Cheese worthy. I got a take out order for my hard working Financé. It was ready before I could finish my Guinness. Also its usually a good crowd; light on Bros.
Outstanding historic bar restaurant in the heart of midtown. Warm Friendly service. Great drinks.
Love burgers here! I went for a takeout order and was very happy when I made it home and found the burger in a cardboard box! I am giving you guys five stars for making a positive change for our planet.
Saw Buddy Hollys wedding photo! Right at the table where he proposed to his gal.
Great atmosphere, great service (Anthony), great drinks and great food. They start running out of things on Sunday (we tried ordering calamari and fish & chips), got the burger instead and I made the right choice, it was awesome!
This old standby is a destination restaurant, and by “this,” I mean the original P.J. Clarke’s at 55th and 3rd in manhattan. Founded in the 1880’s P.J.’s is the quintessential Irish pub. In its long history, it’s been a hangout for celebrities, as well as ordinary folks. Unfortunately it’s gone corporate and eponymous spots have opened in lower manhattan, Vegas, and elsewhere, and with that some of the charm is lost. Stick with the basics….burgers, Mac & cheese, and clams on the half shell, and you can’t go wrong. You’ll know you’ve joined the club once you don’t have to ask where the onion is when your burger arrives.
Classically fantastic. This place is the perfect example of a New York standard. The burgers, true to form, are in the category of one of the best in the city, along with the fries. Basic steakhouse staples like wedge salad are all excellent, and they have top-notch seafood, including a raw bar with freshly shucked oysters. they actually have a separate wait staff for the raw bar offerings. At any given time, you will find 50% tourists in the dining area, but still a staple of locals at the bar. This is largely due to the midtown location, and the fact that this place was featured regularly on Mad Men.Still, Id rather eat here than J.G. Mellon where they only take cash.A real cant-go-wrong spot.
Excellent. The food was amazing, the service (Shea @ Lincoln Center) was attenative. The food was good and cooked just the wayattentive. The prices were less than I expected.
I love this original location of p.j. clarkes! ive been here so many times its hard to rate just one time. the service is always on point and the food is consistent. an elevated gastropub menu focused on a raw/chilled bar. but dont skip the burger and the chicken pot pie, both is which are fantastic. the bar area is first come, first serve, and reservations are taken for the main dining. even without a reservation a wait for a table isnt that bad. plus the red and white checker table cloth is such a fun novelty. oh and did I mention the martinis are big, nice, and cold?
First time here and I liked the joint. I had a cocktail called the handsome and it was delicious. My blue burger was very tasty. Liam the waiter provided outstanding service.
