My mom and I stumbled upon a gem in the heart of New York City: Sandro’s. Nestled conveniently near our event venue, it was the perfect spot for a pre-event lunch. From the moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles and courteousness, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable dining experience. As we settled into our seats, we couldnt help but admire the charming ambiance of the restaurant. Soft lighting, rustic décor, and the aroma of freshly baked bread created an inviting atmosphere that immediately put us at ease. Our anticipation grew as we perused the menu, filled with an enticing array of Italian classics. Each dish was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. Every bite was a delight for the senses. What truly made our experience memorable was the impeccable service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction, making us feel like honored guests from start to finish. As we reluctantly bid farewell to Sandro’s, we knew that this would not be our last visit. We left with full bellies, happy hearts, and eager anticipation for our next culinary adventure at this wonderful restaurant. Sandro’s has undoubtedly earned a cherished place on our list of go-to spots in the city, and we cannot wait to return. Grazie mille for a truly unforgettable lunch experience!

My first time at Sandro’s and man this place did not disappoint! I went w my folks for an early 5pm seating on a Friday.Food 10/10Service 10/10Crowd 9/10Ambiance 6/10Food was absolute Italian perfection. I ate the cacio e Pepe because of the reviews. I don’t even really enjoy pasta like this but I reeeeeally had to hold back from shoveling this entire plate into my face. I took the little I had left on my plate and I ate it for breakfast the next day lolService was so relaxed. They let us take our time, kept an eye on our table when we flagged them and everything was great. The crowd at 86 street was mixed! Young, old, couples, friends and families. I think 81 st may have gotten an older crowd but this was crowd was diverse which was nice. The decor was kind of lacking but if anything is going to come up short, I prefer to be this part.Loved Sandro’s and highly recommend this neighborhood gem!

First off, this is NOT a red sauce Italian joint. So if you’re looking for a parm dish or sausage and peppers, head elsewhere. Sandro’s is, after several visits, the best around at just about everything else - from arancini to cacio pepe to swordfish to white veal ragu and on and on. Grissini and lentil soup to begin with a wonderful gimlet and excellent featured wines. I’m telling you - don’t miss it.

One of the top Italian restaurants in NYC, Sandros, is family-owned and serves delicious food, especially their pasta. Make sure to ask for their most famous fresh-made pasta—the flavor and portion size are excellent. I highly recommend this place for any occasion. Located in the Upper East Side, Sandros boasts a great location and a quiet atmosphere.

A fine dining NYC chef recommended this spot to me, so when I was in the area for a holiday party, I decided to stop by for dinner with some friends. Now I have to wonder how high that chef was. This was one of the worst Italian meals Ive ever had in the city--which is saying something because this city is full of bland, terrible Italian restaurants. The complimentary lentil soup we began with was probably the only thing I really liked. I shouldve just stuck with a big bowl of that. Instead, we decided to order a few dishes to share: the Bucatini Amatriciana (overcooked), the Spaghetti Con Vongole (watery and bitter), the Fettucine with White Veal Ragu (decent), and the Gamberi Alla Marinara (not spicy in the least, despite the menu warning otherwise).I do appreciate the complimentary lemon cookies at the end, but I wouldnt venture back here even if all of NYCs Michelin-starred chefs proclaimed it their favorite restaurant. Maybe my palate isnt refined enough? Oh well.

Good food, but not great for me because I love pasta dishes with red sauce and seafood. You can’t customize even though they have the ingredients, and none of the options on the menu are interesting. Lots of Ragu options, a lemon pasta, cacio peppe, vongole. My go to is shrimp with spaghetti and red sauce so I would prefer to go where I can get that. Or seafood pasta, etc.

I’ve lived in New York / the Upper East Side for 9.5 years. Been everywhere. This is hands-down the best Italian food (and service) in the city. Why? Simple: the ingredients are top-notch, and Sandro / Anna / Sandro Jr know how to build a dish and deliver impeccable service. As a further testimonial, I brought my leadership team here a year ago and they still talk about it. Other venues may have the glitz and glamour; Sandro’s has the ingredients and the service. Pro Tip: the Spaghetti A Limone is *the* dish. Burrata with prosciutto and melon has an appetizer also a critical play. Enjoy!

Have lived on the Upper East Side for a bit, but had never dined at Sandro’s. Walked in on a Friday night around 8:30 and was able to snag two seats at the bar. I admittedly had medium expectations because this isn’t a restaurant that normally comes up among friends. Started off with a dirty martini that was perfect. My boyfriend ordered the Spaghetti Con Vongole which was great. I couldn’t decide between Bucatini Amatriciana and Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe so I asked our server which he’d recommend. Landed on the Amatriciana but when our food came out there were 3 pasta dishes - they sent a half portion of the Cacio e Pepe on the house. The Amatriciana is one of the best dishes I’ve ever had - and I lived in Italy. The Cacio e Pepe was also amazing. We later learned the server we spoke with was the owners son. His mom was the hostess who seated us. Love a family restaurant - such an underrated gem on the UES. We also had a great dessert. Cannot wait to come back with friends and family!! Sandros used to be on 79th Street, but has since relocated to 86th to much neighborhood nostalgia and excitement. While our visit to their new location was not unenjoyable, it really didnt stand out against the numerous other options one has for Italian dining in the area. The food was good, but nearly all lasting Italian restaurants in New York have good food. Add in a premium price point and it felt disappointing. The interior atmosphere was also very sterile and could use some added interior design to make it more intimate. Perhaps this is due to their new location, but it could use some work.

If you have celiac disease, I strongly suggest avoiding this restaurant. We called ahead to inform the staff of my severe allergy, but unfortunately, the service was poor and the food was even worse. The gluten-free pasta dish we ordered was unappetizing, with an excessive amount of water and no discernible flavor. To make matters worse, the only gluten-free pasta option they had was fusilli, leaving us with no other options. We decided to try another dish, meat with potatoes, but it was an absolute disaster. The meat was boiled and tasted as if it had been cooked for hours. We were extremely disappointed in the quality of the food and the overall experience. In summary, I would advise anyone with celiac disease or any other serious allergy to avoid this restaurant. I am Italian and very picky about so called Italian restaurants in America. Sandro is like being teleported to Rome, and you do not need a plane ticket. The burrata was fresh and the wild boar pasta special was mind blowing. The menu is a rare combination of best sellers (burrata, branzino) and authentic Roman food (supplì, scarola, cacio e pepe). We were very excited to try the new Sandros location right across the street from our apartment on 86th after not being able to make it there prior to the pandemic. Clearly an UES institution, we wanted to see what all the fuss was about.Sadly, Sandros hits a mark that’s definitely more last generation old money UES tradition than justified classic. While the food is serviceable, and the service is pleasant, the price-to-quality ratio is just not there. The pasta is adequate but unremarkable, drinks the standard fare, and atmosphere stuffy. In a neighborhood that has both La Pecora and Bar Felice within steps, this just doesn’t cut it anymore for the 2022-era UES.

We shared this between 4 people. For dinner, I got the goat cheese ravioli with a lemon cream sauce and it was out of this world. The pasta was perfectly cooked and everything perfectly seasoned and BALANCED!!! For dessert, I got the Tiramisu, which is made in house. Again, it was out of this world.
