Starchild Rooftop Bar & Lounge

We went to the Starchild rooftop for the first time on Friday, it was an overall pleasant experience. On their website we were able to book our private table and didn’t have to wait in line long. Our service initially was average but once I spoke to one of the managers our server became more attentive. If you’re looking for a classy elevated night out with your significant other or friends, this is a good option. Drinks are pricey but good, we didn’t get any food. The music was open format so a mix of everything. Overall of the best options for an affordable rooftop experience.

What a spectacular place with million dollar views!! Lived in NYC for years but didn’t know this place existed! Good variety of drinks on the menu, slightly higher priced (as one would expect) and good service.They just need to tone down the heater so they don’t accidentally “bake” their clients. Multiple requests for reducing the heat were ignored and rejected and meanwhile we started perspiring on an otherwise cool night!

Starchild did not disappoint! We heard about it through our speakeasy guide, so we decided to give a go. Man, what a view!! I especially appreciated the host. She was very welcoming and was able to land our request of seating. Maybe we came at the right time, but we were very surprised that we were seated so quickly given how busy it was, and it being a Saturday night. The drinks were on point! Will be back to visit the next time we are in town.

We bought tickets for New Years Eve party. The organization of the event was the worst I have ever experienced.We waited for over 3 hours in the rain, never got in and were still outside in the line at midnight in the pouring rain.The Civilian Hotel / Starchild Rooftop sold way too many tickets, the management of the event was terrible. The line was extremely long and dozens of people were not able to get in even though the tickets were over $100.This is by far the worst experience I have had since living in New York, and by far the worst New Years Eve I have spent here.The owners of this establishment are completely incompetent, it is a real disgrace.

NYE at the Rooftop was kind of a mess. First we were told we couldnt wait on line then were told to move to the VIP line (even though we were GA). After waiting 15 mins, we were told to move back to the GA line and then proceeded to wait an additional 45 mins in the pouring rain to get in. Knowing the open bar was from 9-1, not be able to get in for an hour was ridiculous. Food and drinks were good but it became super hectic and packed later in the night with some workers being rude. Overall not worth the money

Visited Starchild Rooftop while vacationing in NYC. First of all, the staff was very nice. From the first person at the door to the manager, we were pleasantly surprised with friendly and professional service. Our hostess, Jasmine, was amazing! She made sure to make us feel welcome and had the best energy ✨️ The drinks were just right, the view was beautiful, and the music (hip hop/ reggaeton) was on point!! Would definitely recommend coming here.

Worst place ever! I booked my table for my first New Years Eve at New York. They left us and over 80 people (with reservations) waiting outside in the rain. When I finally got in (at 11:30pm), I had to share my table with another couple. The place was overbooked.. you couldnt walk around, go to the bathroom or order drinks. Was the worst experience Ive had in New York.

My boyfriend and I arrived at Starchild Rooftop around 6:15PM on 8/28. We were greeted by a host and a sharply dressed gentleman with a warm hello. The host then asked, Table for two? After a brief glance around, we responded, We were just looking to get a couple of drinks. The host asked So did you want a table or do you want to sit at the bar? We said we’d prefer the bar, and she simply turned back to her post without any further direction.As we were taking a few pictures on the outside seating area, I mentioned to my boyfriend how off-putting the hosts interaction had been, and he agreed. Her tone and demeanor seemed unnecessarily abrupt, especially considering how short our interaction was.Unfortunately, this experience led us to decide not to spend any money at the establishment. We chose instead to dine at the Rosevale Kitchen downstairs, where the staff was lovely, and we enjoyed a wonderful birthday dinner.I would strongly suggest placing this particular host in a back-of-house position and having someone more hospitable greet guests. The host is often the first point of contact, and it’s crucial to have someone who is both helpful and welcoming in that role. Her lack of engagement, when we passed her again on our way out where she was leaning on her post, scrolling through her phone, didn’t do the restaurant any favors.Overall, while the bar staff was great, the initial interaction with the host left a lot to be desired.

Very nice rooftop with great vibes. Came here on a Friday night. A lot of private parties taking place. Got very crowded very fast. Great music.My espresso martini was amazing!Loved the music!Great views of the city!Inside and outside available!Coed Bathrooms limited. There was a wait usually for the bathroom.Overall definitely recommend.

Horrible horrible experience. We paid over $100 for New Years eve and they made us wait in line for over 2 hours in the pouring rain. They lied about how much space there would be. It was so disorganized. They oversold the event so you werent able to get in. Horrible.Only one working bathroom for over 300 people. Horrible experience.

We were staying at the same hotel so went up for a peak. Vibrant place, people were queuing up to get in. The view was amazing

Starchild is a grand experience. I felt dangerous and sexy the whole evening. The decor is amazing! If you are looking for a lovely evening and great cocktails.. go get your swerve on!!

Quite honestly, this was the highlight of my trip. After trying to go to a couple of other rooftop bars, and finding them either closed, or lacking in views, finding this spot was a breath of fresh air! The drinks all looked delicious. I had the espresso martini, which was strong and tasty! The views were breathtakingly stunning. I could have spent hours just hanging out on their patio. If you’re afraid of heights, this is not for you. The service was fine, nothing exceptional or noteworthy.

Terrible, they left us waiting in the rain for 2 hrs, they treated us so badly, the place was packed more than expected, and again it took us an hour each time we wanted to order a drink.Definitely an experience I would not like to repeat.

A nice rooftop bar near Times Square. I was visiting through promoter Carlos so I had good time with a lot of girls. Good music, nice drinks. It was winter so we were inside. The views are great!

We met friends for a late-night drink on a rooftop bar. The prices are very high, but that’s expected in NYC. However, we were abruptly kicked out at midnight, not even allowed to finish our drinks. While I understand the need to close, we had to finish our drinks outside, with no chance to use the bathroom. To make matters worse, we saw other patrons still seated on another terrace. Adding to the frustration, we were seated next to a particularly noisy and disrespectful group. Perhaps the waitress assumed we were all together, but we felt unfairly treated and offended.

Honestly, we had an “okay” evening. It was nice views, friendly-enough service, quick-ish drinks when ordered (from the girls) which was nice. And then, after paying our $240 dollar bill, a security team member told us the manager (assuming Claudio if that’s his name) told him to make us (a table of x2 pax/Hotel Guests) move because the promoter table was coming in…. Considering we’ve paid over $1000 dollars to even stay at the hotel, had paid $240 for our drinks and we’re still finishing them, that was a bit of a slap in the face. Management needs to up their game and come speak to customers face to face to explain when tables are needed and maybe offer an alternative seat …. Not send security who didn’t even want to let me finish the drink I’d paid for. Doesn’t look good after what was an okay evening… the attitude didn’t justify the service/location if that makes sense??Looking forward to going to other rooftop bars in the city. I’m sure there are better.

A wonderful bar with great food options, drinks, and a comfy atmosphere. Perfect for gatherings, dates, or a solo vibe.

My roommate and I had our birthday party at Starchild, and it was the BEST decision ever! Stevie and his team did such a great job of making sure we had a wonderful night. I can’t remember the name of our server, but she was amazing! She helped us with everything—from taking drink orders to setting up our cake to even cutting it up for our guests! The DJ was so much fun, we had a great corner of the bar for our guests to sit when they wanted a break from dancing. The views and photos we got to take were the best! 10/10 would recommend hosting a birthday or special event here!

Website says there is no cover charge but we were told about one at the door. $100 for a couple it seems. Felt the elevator person was just making it up?

We made a quick stop before the thearte for some shared appertizers and espresso martinis. They didnt have the frozen version on the menu but the regular ones were delicious. Appertizers we ok also. The place is adorable and gives off a Stars on 54 vibe. Love the disco balls all over ! Definitely returning for more cocktails.

Nice, smaller, bar and bites area on the roof of the CIVILIAN hotel. There’s a wraparound terrace as we’re for those nicer nights. We came on a rainey day, so didn’t see much of the terrace, but it was a nice Sunday night activity. Great for a date night, or a drink with a friend. Lots of great drinks! 4 different espresso martini options, that could tickle any fancy. I tried the surge, wasn’t much of a fan, but the option with the Cream (I can’t recall the name) was so good! Will definitely be back. There is also a restroom stall that is amazing, makes for an excellent picture with friends. Thanks to Diego and Chim for the warm hospitality…

Very nice rooftopbar. There wasnt an entryfee and the have no minimum beverage rule. They clean the restroom after every use.

Hidden gem of the midtown, good ambiance and customer service

Rooftop is very small and staff is rude. There are much better rooftops in NYC with quality service.

We have been there twice with my friends, once. We love it very much. Beautiful view of Manhattan from the terrace.🌃🇺🇸The waiters are very nice, one of the girls danced with us. We will definitely go back another time. I can say that for sure.🥰😍

The male bartender was very kind and funny. He also knows a lot about cocktails. professional person. The atmosphere there was also very good. The only downside is that it is too expensive. Too bad its too expensive.

Don’t go here!!! This was not a welcoming place. Had a reservation and had to wait 10 minutes, finally got in there and there was no hostess to seat us. We sat in a free spot because there was no direction, only to be told we couldn’t sit there. Then when we asked where we could sit they said anywhere… Didn’t feel safe or welcomed in the slightest, so we left. Don’t be fooled by the lines they just make people wait to seem exclusive but this place is simply not worth it, very unpleasant.

Shhhhh...dont tell anyone....its too good. Intimate lounge area feels very VIP, dancing starts about 10pm, great DJ...drinks are $20ish for cocktails and $11 for a beer...not unexpected. Great views from outside, feels more scary than being on the 80th floor to be honest! Highly recommend, but dont tell too many people ;) check us out on YT Joe and Marinas Big Life Adventures.

Avoid this place. There are no great views, the place is fairly dead, the drinks are average at best, the music is not great, and worst of all the manager (who was wearing what I can only describe as pants from a magic Genie) is a complete imbecile. AVOID THIS TRASH PLACE!

Had a great time at Starchild rooftop bar. It is on the small side which was perfect for me. The bartender Brandon was great, easily the best part of the evening. The drinks were so delicious. The music was fun, views were nice. All around great place to have a quality cocktail and dance. The disco bathroom was so much fun and an unexpected surprise.

This is for the receptionist. I was guest of the hotel and came across the really uncomfortable situation of losing my key while on a night out. Just a couple days earlier I noticed the reception of the hotel being empty at late hours and nobody was picking up the phone so I try to call the bar to find a way to make sure I’d be able to access the hotel. The lady was one of the rudest people I’ve ever interacted with, bluntly said she didn’t know what to do, how to help, and hung the phone on me while I was talking. Regardless of this attitude being beyond unprofessional, she was literally working in the same building and as it turned out later she would have been able to help if she wanted to. Woman to woman, I found it quite disgusting she had no regards for my concerns of being stuck outside at such late hours, by myself. I made sure to call back and let her know, hoping the call just got interrupted, it didn’t, she actually hung up and responded in even a more awful way when called out, remarking once again how she wasn’t even gonna try to be helpful. Ruined the stay and I moved hotel as I was just disgusted by this behaviour and professional approach, hospitality really isn’t for everyone. Thank you tho.

Very small and tables of different parties are practically connected they’re so close together. Drinks are pricey, but good. Great views.

Wow, wow, wow! Great location, cool terrace, amazing atmosphere and superb service. The drinks and pizza were excellent.The Dj had everyone dancing as she played all the hits, adding to our experience this past Saturday night.Shout out to Kat and Natalie who were extremely attentive and made sure we had a great time.Will definitely be back.

I was so excited for this place. The place had music that was good. It was pretty empty on a saturday but we were sat right next to the speaker so we couldn’t even hear one another. The drinks were one of the worst things that I have ever consumed in my life. The espresso martini tasted like toilet water. I wouldn’t even complain normally but seriously I had to send it back bc no way was i about to spend 25$ on a drink to taste like that. The waitress was nice but it took forever to order anything. We got one drink each and left as soon as we could. View is nice but overall not worth it.

The staff is mostly amazing from the front door..all the way upstairs everyone is smiling and greeting you. What makes it special is that it doesnt feel forced, they genuinely are happy to see you. The security guards always look sharp and it makes a difference.The staff that needs some perking up is bartenders. I get it they deal with the guest at a different level..but you will ALWAYS get more bees (and tips)with honey. The drinks are pricey ,its a rooftop, it is BEAUTIFUL and you will feel on vacation here.

Made a reservation for the “evening star” nearly a week in advance. Travelled from Canada for 5 days and stayed at the hotel below the bar. Hottest day of the year and was denied entry because “pants are required” when it doesn’t say that anywhere on their website specifically. I would have had no problem wearing or bringing pants from Canada had pants been an explicit requirement on their dress code. (Wasn’t planning on wearing them for the hottest 3 day stretch of the year) I would have even went and bought pants.Unfortunately by now it’s far too late to reserve a table at any other rooftop bar in NYC with an “unobstructed view” for the remainder of my stay.Some more clarity would have been nice.

Stopped in for a drink, late night on a Wednesday. I came at the recommendation of a friend and had a good time. It’s a beautiful spot with beautiful views of NYC. I found street parking right away. The vibes are real laid back. Music is cool they play a lot of the oldies but goodies. A lot of the seating is lounge style and it’s a cute place to hang out with friends or even chill out with your boo. I ordered The Llama which is one of their specialty expresso martinis and I absolutely loved it and ordered a few more. I deducted one star because service was slow from some of the servers. Shoutout to Imani though she did take good care of us and made up for the delay that night. I can’t wait to come back. Prices are standard for midtown.

Poor experience, Visiting the city with a friend and a rooftop drink was a perfect end to the night however was ruined by poor customer service. Told we couldnt enter as there was a private party and we could go to the 2nd floor instead, when we got to the 2nd floor they said there wasnt an event on and the lady on the door was being discriminatory due to the dress code , however we were wearing dresses and heeled sandles. Avoid !!

After a disappointing meal elsewhere I booked Starchild for myself and my partner. This turned out to be the best decision I could have made as we absolutely loved the atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and professional. The views were great and the overall feel of the place was very warm. We had visited on holiday from the UK and would 100% recommend this place for a cocktail and a meal with a view

Great place for a date, lightly illuminated makes it more feel more private. Drinks are awesome, but they have a small menu of just appetizers & theyre not fulfilling either. So eat dinner before heading here.Views are ok to good.

It is beautiful, but I was shocked to find my Tito’s +Soda was $22. I’d pay that for a craft cocktail in this setting but that’s steep for vodka soda.

A beautiful rooftop bar, the staff is sweet and friendly. The drinks was decent and in-term of snack/food options there was not really much option available on the menu. The inter design of the bar is gorgeous. The best time to come here is during sunset where you can see the city view from the outside roof. The cocktail price is a bit expensive but reasonable for the location.

Closed roof top with a small outdoor area. There were floor to ceiling windows by some of the tables where the terrace extends from, I assume in the summer these would be open. Had a great time at the rooftop. Staff was extremely professional and the DJ had some great old school hip hop with a mix of some new school hits of various genres.

Nice views of midtown and interesting cocktails. Seems like a great place for Sunday brunch under the disco balls! Make sure to check out their special restroom ;)

The staff are so rude! I felt so unwelcome there. It took about 20mins for my drink to be served with other tables ordering and getting their cocktails before me (I ordered a glass of wine). Its so overpriced. Avoid! Plenty of other rooftop bars in NYC.

Hostess was extremely rude. Such loud music you could barely talk to anyone. Drinks were way overpriced for the quality. The view was alright, but can barely even see it from inside. Not worth it, just go to any of the other rooftops in nyc, there’s plenty of them.

The rooftop and the bar are individually worth a visit. If you want a spot to whisper to each other over some cocktails or to turn up with the team - I recommend

Worst doorman ever experienced in NYC, tried to be nice to him but was very rude throughout the whole interaction, wanted to charge $300 for a minimum bar tab then tried to up it to $400 thinking we wouldnt notice, could not have had a worse experience and highly recommend no one to visit and for that doorman to be fired ASAP

Pictures are far more enticing than actual place. Service is slow and lacking. Rude waitress didnt even say thanks after I paid the overpriced bill. Not going back.

Went here for a family friends birthday bash! Its really cool that they do themed bottle service presentations and go the extra mile to make it special.

Empty on a Friday night and would not take a song request on an empty floor.

Got to see Anderson spin here opening weekend, which was so cool!The space was super loungey and the views are unmatched - the fact the the roof opens and closes is huge.The gelato espresso martini was amazing and the DJs are always on point, new go-to spot!

My roommate and I had our 23rd birthdays here. Stevie went above and beyond to make it a truly magical night for us. Love the cozy atmosphere, good view and wonderful staff. Our waitress was great and helped us with the candles on our cake, and making our drinks cute for photos. So excited to go back!

TL;DR - A lackluster cocktail bar. Service is slow and minimal, menus leave much to be desired.A surreal place to say the least. The front lobby area gives off strong punk vibes, sporting black and white photos of well-known punk stars: Sid Vicious, Joan Jett, the Ramones. But the rest of the bar is heavily disco, almost gentlemens club themed. An odd choice.Our server offered us water and then charged us $11 for it, which felt like a very cheap move for a bar with such an expensive veneer. We had multiple different servers so we were never sure who to flag down when we needed something; three different people served us.Surprisingly, there was a very short cocktail list. The happy hour menu was reasonably priced, but there was only 3 items on it. The regular menu was disappointingly short, and fairly devoid of the creative cocktails.There are many beautiful, impressive, stunning cocktails bars in Manhattan. Go to one of those and dont waste your time here.

I have celebrated my birthday this past weekend at your amazing rooftop!My friends and myself really enjoyed our time! We started with snacks and drinks and everyone mentioned that the food was so delicious, especially Pretzels with honey mustard sauce and lobster rolls! Good quality drinks, I ordered Spicy Encounter cocktail!After 10pm the DJ came in and we enjoyed the music, loungy and relaxing atmosphere and danced the night away!Highly recommend spot for group of friends who enjoys dancing, chill vibes, good music and skyline views!

Threw a company holiday party at Starchild in December. We rented out whole thing - I thought it went perfectly! Their events person, Jennifer, was SO easy to work with and super responsive to emails. Day of ran absolutely seamlessly and all their staff was amazing! Highly recommend.

This was not my first time at Starchild Rooftop Bar & Lounge, and certainly will not be my last! The atmosphere is fantastic, the drinks are exquisite, and the service is warm and welcoming. Everything was super cool. Its super expensive, but maybe thats worth it once in a while. It wasnt very crowded though

Good atmosphere and fantastic view

Celebrated my 40th Birthday and it was fantastic. Reservations were easy to handle- staff was super accommodating. Space is phenomenal (everyone gushed over how gorgeous it was). Drinks are lovely, snacks were good. Would recommend this place to anyone.

I felt like I was in a dream, not even joking. it was dimly lit, surrounded by the skyline, Tribe Called Quest was playing, theres a digital fireplace thats basically like the real thing. drinks were expensive so its not a place to get lit. just one cocktail and vibes. *** after 10pm the main room turns into bottle service only so you do need to get there earlier to enjoy the ambiance. its worth it.

I used to come here sat nights, entrance was always free, tried getting in there again this past saturday night, the doorman is a rude guy and wanted to charge us 200$ per person. I get it-- he trying to pocket money and make money, but there is nobody in right state of mind will pay 200$ to get into here especially since was able to get in here before for free any sat night, please fire that doorman, also there were like 4-5 girls in front of the line of us, he kept flirting with them, hugging them and touching them, that was very unprofessional of him to do that, sad cause this spot is a great spot until they decided to hire that immature guy who works there on saturday, the manager is a cool guy and always gives stamp but not the doorman, please find a better respectful doorman or else these negative reviews will be coming in from others as well.

Drinks are great. Fantastic views. Easy to get to. We ordered the bar food, and enjoyed the truffle fries, but would not get the flatbread again. Joe, one of the bartenders, was great!

Beautiful lounge! The ambiance, the vibe, the MUSIC was on point this past Saturday. Our server Natalie..wow!!! She was amazing. All smiles, friendly, helpful, humbled. We loved Natalie(fun glasses and long hair). We had a reservation for the lounge area, but did have to finish up due to the table being reserved for the VIP bottle service that took place from 10pm on, which was fine. We stayed at the bar, walked around and took it all in. We went outside on the balcony to see the views and to cool down. I would have put 5 🌟s but it was ridiculously hot in the lounge by the bar and one of the heaters at the entry point next to dj table was blowing straight down on us. Please fix this asap. The other item was the bathrooms. There is one that is sparkly and fun. I say make all 3 fun and then there wont be a back up for the line. You want the full experience, so just decorate the other two and the person in the hallway monitoring the bathrooms might have an easier time. He was great too, very nice. Beautiful place..I danced and had a ball. Thank you.

I’ve been to a lot of rooftops in my time in NYC and I have to say, Starchild has easily become my favourite. The ambience is fantastic, the drinks were great, the view is stunning, and most importantly, the staff was absolutely wonderful. Every interaction I had felt like I was engaging with lifelong friends rather than strangers at a bar and that is something that eludes most establishments. I greatly look forward to coming back and I wish them many years of prosperous business 🙏🏻

Came here last week for some after dinner drinks. Cool spot with a DJ and good music. Shout out to the bartender Brandon for the great old fashioned! Will definitely be back.

Tourists who wandered in trying to find a good cocktail. From the excellent staff greeting us to immaculate cocktails, and great vibes in between. We stayed far too long and missed many sights the next day, but well worth the late night and slow morning!

Came in to try it out and grab a quick drink, but the bar was over crowded and it took a long time to get in and out using the elevator (waiting like 10 minutes to leave). The bar was very loud as well, it was hard to have a conversation. Great view.

Ive never seen so many different types of espresso martinis. The presentation was superb on The Llama, loved the rainbow stuff on top!!

Love the ambience of this place. Killers views and amazing staff. I asked which Espresso Martini was the best and our waitress went out of her way to get me a special one. Beautiful decorations too.

The best new rooftop bar in NYC! The skyline view is spectacular 🤩 Stellar service, delicious drinks and aesthetic of the scene was chic and classy and the music was great! The staff truly goes above and beyond - I was impressed. Highly recommend!!

The doorman on Saturday night should be fired- he wants to charge 200$ per person when it has always been free of charge to go inside on a sat night- please get rid of this scammer and get well respected people otherwise this place will be continually getting these types of negative reviews.

It looks beautiful.The bartenders were friendly. Couldnt make anything but the drinks on thier menu though. Our drinks we ordered that werent on said menu, were gawd awful.The hostesses HATED thier livesThe music was too loud for the time of day and for the atmosphere and was honestly just plain bad musicI would like to try it again to see if any of those things Improve

Drinks are GREAT but theyre very expensive ($20 minimum) and the music is so loud that you cant hear the person across from you. If youre here more than an hour, youre likely to leave with a headache.

It was 95 degrees out and they had the audacity to not let me in with shorts on. Hard pass.

It is such a worse place.The bouncer being so rude bc our friend just wear a hat with a la logo and they want us to take it off. After we take off the hat we still didn’t get it. The people get in is only white. This is nonsense and being racist.

It is even legal to terrorize neighborhood with such loud music and DJ screaming 3 nights a week?! I believe there is such type of complaint in 411

Worst NYE party i ever been a part of. Bought vip tickets but absolutely nothing vip about it. They lied about everything at one point of the night we were just laughing at how much this place sucks but we made the best out of it. They were extremely disorganized and overpacked it. Nothing premium about the open bar. I had to buy premium shots separately and it was ridiculously expensive and no coat check was just foul even though it was advertised and it was pouring that night. Security was cool they did their part. But service was absolute trash they just shrug their shoulders at everything like it was troublesome to them because I was trying to figure out what I paid for but It is what it is but never again. It’s not ok to lie to the public.

We asked at reception for a free table.We were asked to go to the bar and told that we would be picked up as soon as something became available, even though there were a lot of tables free.After two drinks still nothing.
