The Burgary

Very cute little place to get a burger and fries. I built my own and it was quite tasty. No problems. Staff is friendly. Seven or so tables and a bar. Fries were nice and crispy. Some of the chairs could use a refresh but all in all a good time and happy we went.

A hidden gem with a purple door and it can be easily missed!On our recent trip to NY we went to Burgary on a recommendation claiming that it’s one of the best burgers in NY. We would agree with that , we ordered The Godfather - it was so flavourful , well constructed - the flavour in the patty , the bun were a bomb!Even their brioche burger bun had good seasoning on and served as a good vehicle for the meat and held everything well! The ratio of the meat to bun was good making every mouthful so delightful! The onion rings were also one of the best we’ve had - super crispy! I’d call it a Posh American burger so much better than any standard burgers!And overall great service & ambience - with some art work on the walls!

This place is so cool. If you walk by it you probably wouldnt notice it but I recommend it to anyone looking to eat in a spot with nice decor. Another good thing about this bar is their drink specials. Garfield who was my bartender the day I went took care of us and had one of the best Playlist ever. He gave us free taste test of their house beer and even showed us the speakeasy bar that they have. I wish I knew the names of the items I ordered. Ill attempt to name them but dont quote me. I believe the burger was called an El cchapo which came on like a piece of a tree trunk and a coke included. And we also got the tatertachos which were so good. The burgers are completely customizable so anything on the menu you can add to your burger. I highly recommend this place.

Everything about this place amazes me!! This is probably my favorite place to get tator tots. Words can’t explain how delicious and crunchy the tator tots are. I can’t wait to come back here when it is safe again. The burgers were also pretty great; you can customize your own burger. The burger bun wasn’t as good as I hoped but regardless this place is amazing and I highly recommend it!

The customer service was amazing. The servers were great but the food was very under seasoned. The beef and even the chicken tasted very bland and almost watery. The fries had a weird grainy feel to it, but very crunchy. Overall, the service was the best part of the meal.

The Burgary combines great food, a nice atmosphere with really friendly staff to provide a great experience. Its really not much to add, or perhaps that their French fries is the probably the best iv eaten. Can highly recommend going there if your into burgers.

Absolutely delicious and juicy burgers stacked high. The quality and flavors of everything was incredible. Not to mention you can customize your own burgers. Would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Wanted a really good burger and after reading the reviews had to go to this place. Now there was a small issue with sitting me at a table, but thank goodness for the very sweet server she was able to get me a table. Mind you its a small place with 5 tables. Either way I ordered the notorious burger with tots. It was supposed to come with bacon, but I realised after I left I never saw bacon on my burger, but omg it was soooo yummy. Then I decided to get the oreo milkshake, although it was a mess it also was really good. I think you have to make a reservation, will call the next time when craving a burger. Food is a little pricey but delicious.

Great burgers, great beer and tater tots!!!Stopped by for a quick lunch. Sat at the bar. The bar staff were very friendly and attentive. Perfect portion size for an afternoon of walking around the city.Definitely ranks in my top 17 burgers of all time!

Burgary is a great place to eat a burger and have a drink. This place deserves way more publicity and acknowledgement for its great food, beautiful setting and its wonderful staff. The server/ bartender Geo handled everything for me and my girlfriend. The drinks were very refreshing and affordable. He was very attentive to our needs and was very knowledgeable of the recipes to our food and drinks. I would recommend this place to anyone at any time of the year.

Delicious burgers in a Bar atmosphere with good music selection and drinks. It also has a speak easy in the back. Recommended if you want to try something different burgerwise.

Really enjoyed the burger with mushrooms and gruyere. The drinks were fun to try. We were going to go to Garfunkel’s upstairs but they were closed. The bartender was fab!!! Five stars for him. For real. He was very attentive and knowledgeable.

Its a cute small bar, it was very dark inside and its easy to miss when walking by but I really enjoyed my experience. The music was great and the staff were so kind and patient. The build your own burger was flavorful and the onion rings were amazing. I will definitely be back.

El Chapo, one of the best burgers Ive ever had. Highly recommended. I dont eat too spicy, so I asked them to leave out the jalapenos.

Really good value for money. large and high-quality portions. In the Garfunkel burger, tasty brioche and lots of truffle flavor. it was a mistake to order a medium rare beef patty. for once that was what was asked for. unfortunately, the sear and structure were missing. I would have liked more salt and juiciness from the fat. Fries 10/10, cocktails 10/10

Extremely extremely expensive. And the food portion is barely there. I found $13 for 5 or 6 onion rings outrageous. What bothered me more is that they were soaking and dripping in Grease. I would never order again

I’ve been going to the Burgary for a while now and would definitely recommend. I’ve recently been eating healthy so the last time I went I had to order a salad and was feeling a little down about it since everyone else had something more exciting. However, once that salad came out it was shockingly good. It’s the first time I went out and ordered a salad and wasn’t underwhelmed. I haven’t had one bad meal at the Burgary and the customer service is superb as well. Definitely check them out!

(and I believe they have a second floor as well)This spot is perfect for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and not too pricey. Ive been here twice with my wife and we hope to find an excuse to come back. They try to get people to tip twice on their bill by automatically adding 20% and then asking for additional on top of that. Super sketchy.

Fantastic. Consistently impressed by the quality and flavour of the meat here. Even when getting takeout the burgers hold up very well and arrive fresh and juicy. Requested cooking temperature always respected. Nowhere else I would order from now.

UPDATED REVIEW:I went back with some friends and the vibe was very different from what I was used to. And the food we all ordered wasnt very good. Pretty disappointing. The server seemed like he didnt want to deal with us. Its unfortunate that I was drawn to this place due to an Instagram post but lost what made the place special. Maybe it was an off day or a different chef. Nonetheless, I wasnt a fan.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I found this place while scrolling through Instagram and a specific picture of a menu item (El Chapo Burger) inspired me to check the Burgary out.The location is great and they have a very nice outdoor dining area. The service was amazing. It may sound cliche but its a nice feeling when your server is knowledgeable about the food and excited about what they are serving.Now for the food, the reason I went in the first place. Everything was delicious. Every single thing. We were a party of 4 and had our own appetizers and burgers and they looked just as good as they did online. The El Chapo Burger was everything I had hoped for. I cant wait to go back and try other things from the menu.I wish I remembered my servers name because he was awesome.

This is a very small place. It may be able to sit 12 people, at the bar seating for about eight and window seating at the front about four. The food was good. Service was ok. Seems the server has a chip on his shoulder. My sister in law asked a question about an item on the menu, his response was i dont know. He should have said, Ill go ask the manager or cook. We had a few questions that were not answered well. We only asked because the menu was a deep red color with black lettering. In the soft lite it was hard to read. With not to good service i feel the tip should be left up to me and not added to bill. I like to think service was not great because, the server had to double as the bar tender. Im willing to give this place another chance for the food. Hopefully the service has changed..

This place is a gem!!!! The bartender was stellar! So gracious and kind, we chopped it up about all types of whiskeys n spirits. I really enjoyed my afternoon there, and would really recommend someone to pay them a visit. The space was clean and spacious, great for a quick bite or sit down and chill with a cute lounge upstairs.

Omg Service Awesome Burger my bf Had sauce running down his fingers, n There was no attempt to grab a napkin lol I think That voches for the Best Burger In town by far! I wish I could of took a pic but My chicken Custom Sandwich was hella Fin Good!

Service was so good I had to stop eating and review the place. It’s WONDERFUL, OUTSTANDING SERVICE. And FAST I LITERALLY WAITED ABOUT 7 mins for my order. The bartender Clifford knows his way around the bar. I got to choose a selection of my own music. The VIBES were AMAZING !!!! Would recommend 10 times out of 10

Visited NY for the weekend and was absolutely blown away by the service Gio provided for my family and I. Such an incredible experience for a place we thought was just a little pit stop. Gio took care of us, recommended we try out “el chapo” and made one of the best tequila drinks I’ve ever had. I highly recommend you ask for this bartender, he knows exactly how to provide quality service and I look forward to coming to this spot again when I return to visit!! Thank you so much Gio for a great time!!! Cheers to the cook/chef as well!! You will not be disappointed!

Food is decent, I think our expectations were too high given the previous reviews. I probably wouldnt come back but we cleared our plates. Recommend the milk shakes. The spotty a/c in July is a real thing and its not a joke. We sat directly under the a/c unit and were still sweating through the first half of our meal.

This spot is pretty much laid back and a bit small, but has a good amount of seating. I really liked the cartoon wall murals here, very cute, kind of funny and fitting with the very famous tenants of this spots from way back when; felonious Marcus Garfunkel and Max Tauster.We ordered one shake to share. We chose Vanilla Smores Milk Shake, and when it came out, we were completely stunned, it came with a fireworks!!! OMG!!! How fun! The size of the glass was not too big, which was nice. Just the right size for us to share, without getting too full so that we can still enjoy the food. And yes, it was delicious!Now, for food, we decided to order one appetizer and one burger to share. We picked Tator Totchos. It was HUGE! Loved all the ingredients on it. Comfort food made with high quality ingredients.It was not easy to choose which burger to order, as they all sounded really interesting. We decided to go with The Lower Eastsider. I say this burger was like a work of art. It was big, standing tall and strong, just asking us eat it up! The burger was great, super juicy and packed with flavor.The staffs here were really nice and friendly, polite and helpful. We had a super awesome brunch here, delicious, comforting, and relaxing. We loved everything we had, we would definitely go back for more!

LOLThis spot is pretty much a cool burger joint, laid back and a bit small. I really liked the cartoon wall murals here, very cute! This location is known for having very famous tenants in the 20s; felonious Marcus Garfunkel and Max Tauster.I was there for after dinner drinks and unfortunately didn’t try their food but that is on my list and will definitely update my review once I do =]

Amazing, creative burgers and cocktails. A bit pricey if you’re sippin’ as well, so be careful, but that’s New York City for you. Don’t skip the fries.

Gratuity isn’t gratuity if it’s automatically added to a bill. 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill for a party of 2 while the receipt says it’s added for a party of 5. On top of that the receipt given back to you pretends like they didn’t just add a tip and leaves another line for a tip. The food was decent and not bad, but won’t be coming back due to deceptive tipping practices that are getting out of hand everywhere.

Great host, server & food. Manager or GM not sure which & dont care asked us to move CLOSER to drafty unprotected door halfway through our meal in order to add an extra seat to window counter. When we expressed an issue with this, said GM took a defensive attitude. I ended up telling him to go away - leave us alone. His response? Youre done with your meal but I have found you a table away from the door. Yeah - not returning ever.

1st, opening hours are incorrect on Google maps.2nd, I showed up at 2:05pm on Sat then some guy, seemingly an employee rocked up 10 mins after scheduled opening times. I asked what time I should come back and he just shrugged I just got here do what you want, I asked a few follow up questions like when are you open, should I come back in 10, 15, 20 mins? he just grunted again I just got here, do whatever you want.A simple Hey were running behind, would you mind giving us 15 mins to get set up? wouldve sufficed.The burger scene is too competitive for this type of carry on, Ill pass.

Actually I saw this place in a video inside a yellow cab lol. One of the best things about the burger I had is that it was actually made medium well like I asked! The drinks were well crafted and overall this place exceeded my exectations. Come on a Sunday if you want the place to your self.

Great place! Tried two burgers. Highly recommend the The Garfunkel & Tauster, probably one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. The Godfather was pretty messy still decent. Tatertuts and fries were pretty good. The prices were very decent and the service was great. The hostess and the waitress were both very nice and welcoming.

Fantastic burger joint! Aside from the amazing food this place comes with a bit of cool history that you may never know without investigating...All of the burgers are designed/named after famous criminals. I my self had the el chapo with a side of coke. Also ordered the tater tatchos which were amazing.As far as the history to this place and how I started the investigation started after my visit to the restroom. I took notice of the very cool wallpaper of very old currency. Upon leaving the restroom I notice a genuine bank vault door with a thin staircase behind it. Im thinking this combined with the name..something is going on here. A quick google search leads me to the surprise of a speakeasy upstairs by the name of Garfunkels.This bar is fantastic and one of the best semi secret spots around. Named after a couple private bankers turned criminals Garfunkel and Tauster who used the place as a corrupt bank way back in the 1920s.So from gangsters and money to burgers and graffiti. The story of New York nowadays.

The Lower East side burger was amazing. Basically a pastrami sandwich in a burger form. It’s a bit of a hit but worth it.I was recommended The Burgary a while back and finally got around to visiting. Gonna add to my list.Weekday nights have open bar seating.

Trendy, small but nice ambience. Love the Totchos and when you get to build your burger. Juicy and the shakes are incredible. Play hip hop, rnb, todays music so it is dope. Never get tired of this place. I feel its better coming around late afternoon. Also have a TV by the bar. It can be a little pricey but prices are decent. Warning they charge high gratuity even if a party of less than 5 so watch on what you order. Still though food is excellent even for a small menu.

Wasn’t impressed by their burgers like everyone else. I had the Lowereastsider and it was nothing special. The meat was dry and overcooked, the lettuce overwhelming, and the bread had no flavor.

The food here is great! We were looking for a chill spot to have a burger and were not disappointed. I ordered the Lamb-Burgini. The lemonade is made in-house and is just the right amount of tart. The fries are perfectly crisp. We had a slight hiccup in the service which was quickly remedied, so I have no complaints at all. Would definitely go again and would certainly recommend.

Popped in while visiting in NY for an afternoon snack and beer. Great service, atmosphere and food. Super compliments to the bartender!

Super pissed off. I went when they were supposed to open and they told me to come back in an hour. Came back an hour later and the doors were locked. Waited a few more minutes and still nothing. They saw me waiting at the door and didn’t bother to come say anything about what might be happening. Finally left and went somewhere else. Wasted an hour of my day on your rude nonsense.

The sandwiches are very good and tasty and the milkshakes are very good and tasty. I will recommend this place to everyone.

The burger was made absolutely perfectly and the facility itself was great.It was Santacon day in NYC so there were a number of Christmas revellers present, but it only added to the charm.Plenty of seats, great staff and excellent food. 4 people in total, 4 absolutely amazing choices! AND THEY HAVE TOTS! Any place with Tots in my book is worth a shot. This was a solid hit!

Great service, cute cozy ambience and the burger was A-mazing! I ordered a med/rare buger with gruyere chees, mushrooms and sauteed onions & tator tots. It was cooked to perfection juices flowing off the sweet bun and not bloody raw. Burger was flavored to perfection as well. Although it was a bit pricey I have to say it was worth it! I will most certainly be back. My server was nice and helpful his recommendation was right on target. If you in the area check out this place you wont regret it.

Was visiting back to Newyork to see family Im from Montana now so I thought I knew burgers and such but holy Cow!!! (pun intended) the El chapo it literally was the best burgar I ever had the burgar just by its self it packed with flavor so everything else on it is just very tasty cherry and sprinkles on top lol

I was craving burgers and this place came up on my search so my friends and I gave it a try. it was a good burger- I wouldnt call it the best but it was a solid good burger. I like the batter they use in the onion rings and really enjoyed it as well.

A great burger place with a good bar. The service was friendly and fast. The building has a cool back story. Two bankers stole customer money in the nineteen twenties from the bank they ran at that location. The two were eventually caught when the bank went bust.

El Chappell burger is delicious and hubby loved the Frank “B.I.G.” White burger. They were cooked to perfection and staff is really nice. If you go, try a frozen margarita too!

I came here with my girlfriend to celebrate her 21st birthday. We are both vegetarian so we both ordered the veggie burger they have on the menu. When I tell you they have the best veggie burger I have ever tasted my girlfriend ordered two for herself. I never write reviews but the customer service and the love they put into their food made a memorable experience for my girlfriend and I.

The main goal was to go upstairs for cocktails, but the burgers looked so legit as we passed thru the restaurant. We were easily enticed. Fun burger names that are quite tasty! Tots were nice and crisp.

My girlfriend is so picky, but absolutely loved her burger. Great fries. Excellent service. Our waitress was so kind and helpful. Super super sweet! Will be coming back for sure.

Spent a week in NY and most of our meals were planned, but walked into The Burgary without any research and had the best food of our trip. The beef and Impossible Burgers were awesome. The house red wine was also great. Be aware of the n-word in the music if your triggered by that. My wife wanted to leave when she heard it, but we are all glad we stayed. My daughters shake was also huge and delicious.

Stopped in for a burger for lunch during a random afternoon in the city, and it was amazing. The onion rings were great, and out server was very attentive and amazing. I cant tell you how much it was because my friend paid the bill, but Im sure it wasnt that bad. Definitely a must stop if you want a great burger

Food was great; service was excellent.Great on menu combos for burgers and a build your own option. I like a thinner patty but, if you want a nice big hamburger, this is for you.We went on Labor Day, and only one bartender was working to serve the whole place. Although it took a few extra minutes, they acknowledge the wait and were very nice in general.The onion rings had great flavor but, the batter separated from the onions. The burgers had great taste, and the toppings were on point like the bacon jam.Only thing I would mention negative is the price of the milkshakes. $9-$15 for a milkshake is pretty crazy. I didnt order one, so I dont know if theyre worth it. The price scared me off.

The Burgary was surprisingly empty for a Friday night at around 7, and it didnt seem to get much more packed later on when we left. Maybe not a lot of people know about this place - it can be easy to miss. Im not complaining though - that just means less of a wait time for me.I had the Great American Burger (bourbon bacon jam, lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, aged white cheddar). Their medium rare is really a medium well, so just be mindful of this when youre ordering it. The burger was good but Ive definitely had better. For what it is, its kind of pricey considering it doesnt come with fries. Id recommend getting some fries though because these were amazing. They were perfectly fried to that golden brown perfection - crispy on the outside but soft on the inside.Im not sure if Id be back for a burger but I dont mind coming back for some fries and maybe some of their other apps.

This place has the best burgers Ive ever had. Im not a burger person, so the Fact that I come to this place at least once a week should tell you its delicious. The hostess/waiter,Clifford, is always pleasant and informative about what I should try next. The food is always hot and the burgers are so juicy and well seasoned.

Only ordered for pickup but food was ready in 10 minutes and burgers were awesome. Also fries crispy and stayed that way till we got home which is very rare. Reasonably priced as well. Would definitely go back and dine in to check out the atmosphere

Decent place with good fried pickles, French fries and attentive service. The burger was not bad, though it came medium well instead of medium rare. But a bigger issue was that both burgers on the table were a bit too salty.

We had such a nice waiter called Gio who gave us shots on the house. He was so friendly and I enjoyed every bite of my food. Coming from london, I was so excited for a good burger and this place delivered

This is the best burger in NYC, and the bar has a pretty good draft list. Really, though, the food here is so, so much better than it needs to be. An absolute gem

Ordered a salad with burger on top, was given the wrong type of salad. Informed the bartender that I didn’t get the correct order, was then told they don’t have the salad I had ordered. Was not offered a replacement or comp of incorrect order.

Great spot, but a little small. Best bet is a seat at the bar.The short rib tater tots are a must. All the burgers/sandwiches are a cant miss. Id order medium rare if you like a medium burger.

Good burger and amazing shakes. The shake itself was very good, but the glass was rolled in a cream cheese frosting and covered with sprinkles. At first I ignored it thinking it was just decorative, but when I discovered it was frosting I devoured it. I will need to try the other shakes.

What an amazing Burger. They had dry aged blended beef. Although it was a bit expensive it was totally worth it. The buffalo wings were really good as well

Super rude, loud music... Even though I liked the brussel sprout salad, it wasnt enough to save my impression of the place. BTW... Your tip is included if its 5+ people, they wont tell you and will give you a bill to sign asking for more.

Absolutely god awful service. One hour wait for a table with already having a reservation and a one hour wait for drinks. Dont even bother trying to get a second round.

Great burgers, great service, friendly atmosphere. It is a small, cozy place and the people there are just great. The chef, Álvaro, is fantastic. If you decide to visit, get the El Chapo burger. It has layers on layers of flavor.

One of the tastiest patties Ive ever had, paired with s great in-house pilsner and the crispies fries. Definitely better the best combo you could hope for.
