A truly exceptional brunch spot! I can highly recommend the birdcage, south of the border, and the pickle martini! If you like pickles, that isThe salmon crispy was absolutely exceptional! And my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the steak and eggs, side of tater tots, which is the go to, of course. Also, the chicken biscuit was extremely moist, and saucy the chicken was cooked perfectly and not dry! We will be back !! Gotta check out dinner
I had an amazing boozy brunch at The Penrose Bar! The Bloody Mary and orange mimosa were perfectly crafted, and the avocado toast with smoked salmon was fresh and delicious. Our waiter and bartender were incredibly engaged and hospitable, making us feel so welcome from start to finish. Highly recommend for a fun brunch with your girls. Five stars!
The ambiance is marvelous! Low lit, with upbeat music playing nonstop. Grace our server is amazing and so sweet. Newly renovated space gives me a SPEAKEASY vibe! Great for networking, parties, and events. Food of course was 10/10- try the Apple Cider/ Hot Toddy! I really liked how friendly the staff was and the location is very convenient. I’m coming back with all my girlies.
Food was amazing; I had the steak & eggs. The staff have great energy, customer service, very nice & accommodating. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday here & she was so happy. Our favorite spot in NYC! Highly recommended ☺️
You HAVE to try the Thanksgiving Egg Rolls!!!!!!! probably the best thing i’ve ever had. their cocktails are so amazingly unique and everyone was so nice (thank you Grace for being so accommodating!). 12/10 RECOMMEND 🤍
As a native new New Yorker, I have high standards for bars. However, after being at Penrose bar for the first time, I can honestly say that it is instantly one of my favorites. The ambiance, good crowd, delicious drinks, and food were so delicious! Definitely can’t wait to return.
Had a lil girls night here and it is Such a classy bar with good music to grab a good bite to eat and strong drinks before hitting the club!I thought the prices were going to be much higher but drinks are $8-$15 for beer/wine/ cocktails and food is well priced as well for big portionsNot to mention the decor was a classy holiday vibe! 10✨
This place is so cute!! I never go out in the UES because I feel like its kind of on the college age side; and im 30 but this place is different. The music and vibes are great! I got the bang bang shrimp and the Love that For You (N/A). Their zero proof cocktail list is crazy impressive. Service is fab too. DEF COMING BACKKK
This such a cute spot! The drinks were truly amazing! I had a spiked horchata and the burger. Service was amazing and quick, very helpful and welcoming staff. This is definitely a fun brunch spot for a girls day on the UES.
Such a nice spot for brunch with friends! 10/10 recommend the hot honey chicken and waffles. Extra points for the mocktails menu!!!!
Get the shishito peppers and don’t forget to put lime juice over it. You will not regret it! Take advantage of their specials, we got the limited time negroni one and it was definitely a good time. The service was down to earth and I am looking forward to coming back. You are bound to hear fun music that you can bop your head to excitedly.
No doubt this is the most popular place in the UES and rightfully so. Great cocktails, very good selection of beers, and excellent service which you wouldn’t expect usually for a busy and packed place like this.
The Penrose on the UES is super cozy and chill. I got the Love That For You mocktail—it was really good and wasn’t too sweet! I also got the popcorn chicken, which was crunchy and delicious. Definitely a nice spot to hang out!
What a great find for casual dining, delicious food, and drinks!I love the atmosphere and vibe of this restaurant. I felt very relaxed and welcome. The staff were equally as pleasant and took great care of our group making sure we had everything we needed. The crispy fish tacos with pineapple salsa and pickled onions was so good and fresh! With a side of crispy tator tots I was set. The ginger mule with fresh and candied ginger was too notch. I could drink that every day, wow. Well priced and delicious meal.Thank you all for a great dining experience.
I love this place it has food and drinks for any time of day or night. The brunch sandwiches were so good
Super attentive and kind staff members, vibey space, and delicious eats ALL AT A REASONABLE PRICE 😋✨🍸 will definitely be back!!
Absolutely loved it here! Went with a few of my girlfriends and we had a blast! They were playing all the jams! Definitely recommend.
5 stars for the flexibility, ambiance, and service. We had a lot of changes in party size and time due to our group size and the restaurant was easy to communicate with and accommodating. Ambiance is great: a good balance of chill, low key, but also a touch of up-scaleness. Service is fast and professional. A good spot for a night out with friends and date.
Great brunch spot! Came to The Penrose on a saturday at noon and found it suprisingly easy to get a table (at the bar, 25 min wait). The service and cozy atmosphere were great, the bartenders were lovely, and the food was quick to come out. Really liked the burger with tater tots. Their eggs benedict were fine but no my favorite. Really want to come back to checkout their sunday jazz nights!
The Penrose on the Upper East Side was a vibe ! The decor is stylish, with dim lighting and vintage accents that make it feel both intimate and welcoming. It’s a perfect spot for a date night .The drinks are delicious! . I tried the Purple Rain Spritz and the Naked in Manhattan . The bartenders clearly know their stuff because the drinks were chiefs kiss 💋The staff is attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, and went out of their way to make sure my boyfriend and I were satisfied .The Penrose also has a great selection of snacks and light bites, which complement the drinks perfectly. I highly recommend trying the Bang Bang shrimp and fish tacos – both were were so good and worth every bite!If youre on the Upper East Side and looking for a memorable night out, The Penrose is a must-visit!
We visited during their brunch hours and had a brunch menu provided to us, as well. The ambience and decor was relaxing and had this Prohibition feel to it, which was fun. The staff was very great, and our server Matt was very kind, fun, and accomodating, so we really appreciated that. Their drinks were delicious, and their food was very flavorful. The location of the restaurant in East Manhattan made it very accessible and a fun spot to visit, too.
I really liked this place! Low key brunch place, not too crowded for Saturday brunch - at easily got a seat at the bar. Food was really good and extremely filling for how the portions looked (not diner sized, kinda normal). Im told prices are also affordable for New York especially, even though I did the millennial thing and ordered the I think $16 avocado toast haha (with bacon, would have been over $20 if I had gone for the smoked salmon).
The Penrose Bar is an absolute gem! The cozy ambiance, expertly crafted cocktails, and amazing staff make it the perfect spot for a night out. Whether youre grabbing a quick drink or settling in for the evening, the quality and vibe are unmatched ;)
The service was good, just nice people doing their jobs. Nothing over the top. The food was not bad. The chicken sandwich just had one flavour and so was unexciting. The atmosphere was brunch-y. I would recommend it for and out and about brunch. Would not recommend for a conversational type sit down because the space is slightly filled to capacity.
Had the time of my life here with my girlies the good the vibe can’t recommend any other place this. highly suggest coming here sat night ☺️
Loved this place!! It was a little busy but the wait goes quicker than you anticipate!! We had the cold brew negroni cocktail and it was one of the most inventive cocktails Ive had in awhile. We also tried the dirty pickle martini and while I liked that one, it was pretty intense lol. The Mac and cheese here is one of the best weve ever had! (Not for the faint of heart though as it was jam packed with cheese and oil, but still so deliciously flavored). I had the burrata sandwich with crispy prosciutto and it was perfectly crisped. For apps we tried the buffalo brussel sprouts which was a very flavorful and fun take on those, but the bang bang shrimp really stood out as a star. Our server was attentive and awesome, despite a busy restaurant. We definitely enjoyed ourselves!!
Fun spot with good seating and great service. Perfect brunch spot on the UES
Been here once, I ordered the Mac n Cheese and Fries Chicken sandwich w/ bacon. Firstly, the chicken sandwich is HUGE lol. It was just the right amount of crispy. Bacon was a bit burnt but overall good sandwich. The Mac n Cheese is an acquired taste, the scallions give this it it’s own signature taste. I enjoyed it but it’s hit or miss based on your taste for scallions. The server was nice and responsive. Didn’t have any of the drinks. Quick service and friendly staff. Solid B+
Has the chimichanga breakfast burrito and wasn’t disappointed! Not blown away either, but happy to have ordered it all the same. Easy brunch spot with classic andUnique options. Worth a stop!
Old fashioned cocktails were perfect! Came for drinks and and some shareable dishes. Shishito peppers are a great starter! Try the artichoke ricotta dip as well! Service was great too! Will be returning!
Went here for dinner with a friend. Sat inside. Had a pleasant experience and ill be a returning customer. The shrimp was outstanding - our dinner conversation revolved around how we can make it ourselves on our own. The cocktails (the pink, the mule) werent that strong, probably wont get them again, but ill confidently try another drink because the rest of what we got was solid.
Enjoyed a lovely reunion with friends. The staff was great and also offered us complimentary picklebacks!
Very deliciousFried chciken burgerFries are just what youd expectThe pickle cocktail is pretty strong and the acidity of it too is strong. 비추.The mac and cheese was good but it was cooked with swirly noodles instead.Add the bacon. The sharable artichoke bread dip is good as well.
I went to this place for brunch with a big group, and they were very accommodating. They have a wide range of brunch options, and I had the salmon Benedict, which was tasty but a bit pricey. The portion was large with lots of smoked salmon. My friend had the oats and found them too sweet, while I enjoyed the fried chicken which was more sweet than spicy. The service was good, and the place had a nice, cozy vibe.
Had such a fun girl’s night out 🫶 vibes imma cute, drinks soooo good & food so yummy! highly recommend the bang bang shrimp& shishito peppers !
Such a great place for a date night!Definitely recommend the cuffing season hot cocktail. So delicious, great atmosphere and food! Will be back!
Stumbled upon this cute place on a walk and enjoyed a cocktail and snack there. Service was great and fast, and I had a lovely time there.
Came here for brunch. The food and cocktails were delicious!Recommend: Hot honey fried chicken & biscuit. Eggs Benedict with country ham.For cocktails go with the “Out of office” and this “barb-ie is a spritz”
Came here for 2 beers on Sunday noon while waiting for girlfriend at The Met. Amazing bartender at work doing the shaking. Great vibes. Girl to guy ratio is 2:1. Other bars need to Learn from Penrose 👍
The drinks were amazing. Our bartender Audrey was very nice and treated us so well. We really had a great nice and definitelyGonna come back again. And for the people that threat by saying “ I will write a bad review “ shame on you.
Food is amazing. The atmosphere is extremely festive, warm and cozy for these below freezing temperatures in NYC. I got the thanksgiving egg rolls and when I tell you I felt like I was at home with the fam, I mean it 10/10. The pickle martini was a must try if you’re into the pickle craze. Extremely crafty menu! A must try if you’re in the city. 🏙️ 😍
Penrose bar on the upper East Side of Central Park.We ordered the fried chicken sandwich, the beef flat burrito, bang shrimp, grilled Brussel sprouts. And some beers. All in all, it was a decent joint with good service, and the food ok, but nothing ground breaking.I had 2 small gripes, I thought the friend chicken was a tad dry and the sprouts a tad too salty; other than that a solid overall bar experience.
Food was delicious, drinks were good too. We had the mezcal margarita and a spritz. The chicken sandwich, with fries were amazing and I had the steak fajita!!! Thank you Haley for taking care of us!!!
The drinks and food were AMAZING and had a great atmosphere! my friends and i had such a fun time here tonight! would 10/10 recommend!
Not usually an UES person for a night out but this place has convinced me to start coming uptown for a girls night out! Great place for dinner and drinks, whether you’re on a first date or a night with friends. Highly recommend the bang bang shrimp, shishito peppers, and the Penrose burger! Super cute interior, fun crowd, and top tier service!
Top notch cocktails every time I come! The food is not bad but the brunch burger cannot be eaten by hand, too messy it needs a real bun. Could use a few more exciting dishes on the menu.
Had our first date here, a few more after that, and then just recently - our engagement party!Had 50 people in the expanded back bar area for around 4 hours and had a wonderful time. It was reasonable - food and drinks for four hours with tax and tip came out to around $12k. Vibes were brilliant, cocktails slap as per usual, and food was solid. More than enough seating room for everyone tooWould recommend working with Meg for large events. Frickles and Mr Pink cocktail are elite.
The drinks were delicious and the vibe and atmosphere were phenomenal. We had a great time and everything was satisfying!
Great vibes and the atmosphere is rlly nice. They played Hozier too which I love so they’ve got taste lol. Prices were good!
The best bar/restaurant scene on the UES. Great menu and food. The bang bang shrimp is heavenly. Highly recommend.
For me travelling to NYC is not complete without a visit to The Penrose. I was first introduced to the bar in 2015 by a friend, I visited again in 2018, on each visit I was filled with good vibes from the staff and everyone around me, the atmosphere is so relaxing and welcoming. The food is simply great, whether you are veggie or full on meat eater there is something here for all food lovers. Beer from the tap is also top notch. Cant wait to visit again whenever that may be. Until then carry on being great!
Food here is not consistent. The calamari po boy is super dry and bland but some of the brunch entries are flavorful.
Loved this place pre 2020. Used to be my go-to, however, its changed now. The cocktails are still solid in the evenings.Though, went for brunch today and the food quality and flavor was really lacking. Would not suggest the place to eat, however, if you want good drinks, come in the evening.Gin drinks seem to be the better of the batch.
So happy to finally have found a nice spot to grab brunch before spending hours at the Met. The shrimp and grits was great but the shrimps were a bit too salty to my taste lol and I had to drink tons of water; the cold brew was amazing. Will be back to try other items.
Such a lovely place. We went out with girls and we had an amazing drinks and atmosphere!
One of the best establishments in all of Manhattan!! This place is a whole vibe✨ Ayeeeeeee❤️
Such a cute spot! I love their drinks and appetizers, location is perfect, crowd is great, music was good, 10/10 would recommend
For a late night UES bar food bite to eat this hit the spot. I sat at the bar and the bartender was cordial, welcoming, and efficient. The Pat LaFrieda blend burger with smoked Gouda was solid, albeit probably cooked a little bit more than the medium rare I ordered. I was surprised that there was not an egg add-on option for the burger, but I’ll survive without it. I generally don’t eat wings when I’m out because I only like my own rendition of wings. However, these were a solid example of the trade. The Ranch dressing in the side had solid smokey flavor which was unusual and good. The wings themselves also had a solid smokey flavor which in my book ranks them over another more-traditional UES BBQ parlor’s wings just down the road. Overall a solid late night eating locale.
Food was great, drinks were great. Bartender knows what theyre doing. Food is unique and tasty.I liked the Thanksgiving egg rolls, the shrimp, the chicken, and grilled cheese a lot, and I wish I could ordered some of the other stuff too.Atoosphere is cool, decor is hip industrial and has personality. Unfortunately, its loud. Couldnt speak to someone in booth that wasnt next to me or across.
Nice COVID protocols in place. The food was delicious. Had a beer with chicken nuggies and the spinach dip as appetizers. Then split the Mac n cheese and chicken sandwich. Both were fantastic. Nice server and staff.
Excellent experience! Drinks and food were amazing! Nice place, nice people and waiters very friendly and welcoming!
Highly recommend the spicy marg!! Apart from great drinks + deals ($10 martinis after 10!!), the staff is so wonderful and kind!10/10 for the brussels sprouts and the cheeseburgers come pre cut in half (win for girls w OCD like me lol)Vibe is also stellar for a first date or light girl dinner if that’s what you’re into besties!✨
I got shrimp and grits and it was great! The French toast sticks were okay and the service was also quick!
Best fried chicken sandwich in a while (space and time!) I load it up - cheese, bacon, and avocado as a minimum! But mostly because Im like that.Update: lukewarm! Not changing my stars but last night at the Penrose was a little surprising. My friend and I were refused seating under the heated lamps under the guise that there was a reservation, which did show up and under the guise that 2 people couldnt sit at a 4 seat table. Yup on NYE when I was just sampling their amazing friend chicken sandwich. By the time we left there were 3 empty seating areas, 2 four seaters and 1 two seater and other patrons were still left out in the cold. It was surprising to see that this is how patrons would be treated even in the cold, during a pandemic, on NYE and when there were empty spaces available. I know things are tough at restaurants these days but that seemed like a real lack of compassion and customer care last night. And if youre wondering, the hot toddy came out warm; after I sent it back, it came out warmer. It be would have been nice to get a piping got drink esp when I couldnt really keep my fingers warm while waiting for a chicken sandwich.Happy to report that the fried chicken sandwich is good even when its lukewarm!
What a magical place! I loved the host, and our server so much! What pleasant and amazing women! We shared a beautiful bonding moment. I loved sharing that beautiful ambiance with my sisters as we enjoyed the amazingly well cooked food. We felt so lucky sitting at that table since it’s so hard to book! We’ll definitely go back.
Sunday brunch at the Penrose - Went around 2:00pm and had no wait to sit down. The restaurant was quite loud as we sat in the back room but really enjoyed the natural light as there were plenty of skylights. Got a cocktail and the bacon, egg, cheese & avocado sandwich. It seemed a bit small but had really good taste and the bun they used was very good. Really enjoyed and would like to bring a larger group here next time.
Such cute vibes with great energy!! Drinks are solid, and gotta order the bang bang shrimp!! (Thank me later)
So happy to be back inside this gorgeous place! Amazing drinks, mouth-watering food, and great servers. Loved the tomato soup and grilled cheese, the fried pickles, ricotta dip, and bang bang shrimp. Drinks are strong and creative. Second time coming back since the pandemic, next up: brunch!
Cool place! Band on Sunday keeps the place alive when you want to fight the scaries!
Best place to hang out with friends and your love ones! All the cocktails I’ve tried were delicious and flavorful, they used the high quality liquor and ingredients. So even I’ve had 6 glasses of cocktails I didn’t feel so drunk just a little tipsy I would say. And Eddie the server she was giving us the best service ever, thank you for your hospitality. Will definitely back!!
The Bar tender was great she kept up with all my wants. My glass was never empty. Nice cozy atmosphere loved it! The Christmas decor was not over the top which I enjoyed. Good customer service
I wouldnt go there for food. I got plastic taste while eating their chicken popcorn. Drinks were ok. Vibe was great, we sat a the bar. It was busy on wednesday night.
Great bang bang shrimp, delicious brussel sprouts(which i usually dont like but loved) and a fantastic virgin moscow mule!!!! The waitress was Excellent too!
Amazing and super fun bar! Food was great, drinks were even better!! Will be back soon
The drinks were so good! I loved the food and atmosphere. 10/10 reccomend
Amazing vibe and bar! Soooo much fun! Definitely going again. 10/10 experience!! 🫶🏽
Always enjoy coming here for brunch. Great vibe and energy.
It’s the go-to spot on the Upper East Side, buzzing with energy and offering an array of delicious cocktails, mocktails, and more. What I love most? The delicious food and the impeccable service that makes every visit memorable. Whether it’s a laid-back hangout with friends or a romantic dinner date, Penrose ticks all the boxes. Great brunch place! Make sure to make reservations, but there are seats at the bar usually early on, so if you dont have a reservation, you can get there early and still get seated quickly which is great. The food was pretty good, but the drinks were even better!
Chorizo crunch wrap is delicious must have
The penrose bar was an amazing atmosphere and vibe. i had an amazing time and i will definitely be back.
Such a cute spot for girls night out! And the bang bang shrimp was def delicious
This is the perfect bar to go to with your girlfriends if felt like a night in Sex in The City. I loved the music and the different apps.
Really nice place with good service, food and drinks
Had such a great time! The tomato sandwich and the shrimp appetizer was to die for! The drinks, food and atmosphere was perfect!! Would definitely recommend this place!! Cant wait to go again!!
Ok wow the boozy brunch was sooooo much fun!! This bar was just newly renovated and you can tell they put thought into the new design and layout! I had the South for Winter mezcal cocktail and it blew me away! I love mezcal in general but this was so refreshing and the perfect brunch drink! I also ate the steak and eggs and that Chimichurri was the perfect way to finish off the steak!10/10 recommend checking it out but most specifically coming for their boozy brunch, it’s a party!
Quick, attentive service where the waiter kept doing a great job to check-in on us. Although no photos, a very beautiful restaurant.Food was absolutely delicious and affordable! My friend and the Turkey Club while I had the Charred Zucchini Hero (highly, highly, highly recommend - would definitely come back for this!). We shared the tater tots, which were not only delicious but a huge shareable bowl for the two of us.
The Penrose has a great assortment of Cocktails for lunch or dinner from an amazing Cold Brew Negroni to a delightful NY Sour with blackberry. The cocktails comes with a tight but diverse selection of food. A classic burger, delicious Fish tacos and a decadent Skittle Mac n Cheese are some of my favoritesThis is a great destination for a small or big group and is perfect for locals or a trip up to a quaint part of Manhattan not too far from the Met
Came for a quick brunch. Food was tasty, service was really good, and the overall experience was very pleasant.
Such a cute spot!! I went with my friends and we were treated so nicely. The food was amazing!! The drink was sooo good 🔥🔥🔥
Very fun, vibrant pub. Excellent pub grub with very attentive service. The burger was excellent as was the fish sandwich. Drinks were well done with a really nice selection. Fun place to go on a Friday night after a long work week.
I Wish there was a Penrose in LA! OMG THE FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH WAS SOOO DAAYUUUM GOOOD !!! I INHALED IT SO FAST! I loooove the decor and vibes here. Really impressed with their food. The old fashion was nice too. Rushed in here after the snow flurries today and it was very delightful! I will never forget that beautiful fried chicken sandwich. I will miss you so much when I leave back to LA. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
The food and drinks were amazing, great atmosphere and very friendly staff!!
Very lively, best veggie burger I have ever had. Drinks were also amazing
The Penrose is such a vibe! Their spicy margaritas and espresso martinis are on another level—so good.. The bites? Insanely good. The ambiance is super cozy and cute with that perfect classic-modern feel.
Great vibe, the calamari is amazing. The breading is on point!Staff was friendly and the overall environment was very welcoming.
Like the beer selection and vibe. Food is OK.
Penrose is the ideal location for a night out because of its fun atmosphere. Dim lighting, a cozy, rustic vibe, and just enough noise to make things feel lively without being overpowering make up the perfect atmosphere. I thought the seating arrangement was great; its cozy and provides some privacy. You could tell they carefully considered their cocktail menu because all of the drinks were flavorful and well-balanced. Penrose is undoubtedly worth a visit if youre searching for a spot with a fantastic atmosphere and good drinks!
So fun and such yummy drinks and food!! Such a cute spot before a night out
I must mention, this is indeed the best bar on the Upper East Side. Its an amazing date spot plus whatever they put in their old fashioneds , gives me a 6 hour mood boost!
I had an amazing time at Penrose Bar! The atmosphere is laid-back yet vibrant, with a perfect mix of cozy and lively energy. The bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable, and craft some of the best cocktails I’ve had in the city. Whether you’re there for a night out or just a casual drink, the service is consistently top-notch. The decor and ambiance make it a great spot for both groups and intimate gatherings. Highly recommend this place—Penrose Bar is definitely a gem!
Met some friends that were in town from Germany for brunch a few days ago. I arrived first and was greeted right away and offered a seat at the bar to wait. I ordered a drink, which was perfect. When they arrived, we were seated right away. Everything we had was delicious. I had the fried chicken sandwich, which was substantial. They had the chimichanga, also substantial and the tacos, which were only 2 per order. We started with the french toast sticks, but felt bad that the tacos were so small we let her have all of them. It was really nice, though. Great friendly service. Will go back.
I went here with some friends over the weekend and the atmosphere was great. The gentleman at the front was friendly and helped us find a seat. The bartenders were fast and professional. When the food got to the table it was delicious.Overall great vibe. Our server was so friendly. I forgot her name but she gave me permission to post her picture, so I will.Give her a nice tip if she serves you, shes the best!A+
Loved the burger 🍔
The hype makes sense. have heard so much about this place but have somehow never been and man, have i been missing out!! vibes are great, dimly lit but not dark. drinks are great, food was great, service was great and fast!!! live music on sundays. will definitely be back. have been to many many many bars/restaurants in the area and this is def in my top 5!! go! you will not be disappointed.
Went for drinks. Loved the atmosphere and the bar tender was super nice and attentive
Seriously love it here! It’s the perfect neighborhood spot. Oftentimes they have live music. Lots of seating. Delicious drinks. Good crowd too. No complaints!!!
Excellent food and service, even during busy Saturday brunch times. We were seated pretty quickly at the bar, though there was a table wait. We were lucky to find 4 seats easily. The bartender was very helpful and suggested some good items (fries and french toast sticks). The drinks were on point and the food was plentiful and hot. The burger was really very good even though we had it cooked well done for my pregnant wife. Definitely would visit again.
I really enjoy the drinks very thought out and elegant drinks although it certainly depends on when certain bartenders are in because tonight I paid an expensive bill for drinks that were subpar disappointed but the reality is thats not what the Penrose is they are known for Quality made drinks another reality is that the food is regardless of who the chef is par. Frys are one of the best things in the menu the cheeseburger the chicken sandwich I would rate them a solid 7. The atmosphere is elegant and sophisticated as well as the drinks being a regular there I cant lie was disappointed at todays drinks especially that the price point was still expensive.
Very friendly and polite staff. Branch. Dessert not available. Cappuccino not available
Had another great experience at Penrose this weekend, definitely my go-to spot in the UES for brunch. We got there a bit before 10 and lucky us, no waiting around, though Ive heard it can get a tad busy later on. We decided on eggs benedict with a side of avocado, and couldnt resist the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich – yes, also with avocado. Had to snag those mac and cheese bites again, and of course, the herbed tater tots, still my top pick. Everything tasted super fresh, really hit the spot. If youre wandering around uptown looking for a laid-back brunch place, Penrose is a solid choice.
Great place for burgers and sandwiches on the UES.
Best place to hang out with friends and your love ones! All the cocktails I’ve tried were delicious and flavorful, they used the high quality liquor and ingredients.Easily could become a speakeasy! Ambiance is great! Prices are also fair.
Nice atmosphere, did not enjoy drinks, I had shrimp and grits I enjoyed the grits more
Always a nice spot to grab a drink with friends or a date. The place is decorated really intimately (low lights, some candles) but it gets pretty loud. The music taste is ok, I just wish they would vary it sometimes. Overall the drinks are great and their brunch is also worth going for.
Perfect for girls night out - we did also see quite a few dates and I would honestly also recommend it as a date spot. The ambience is moody and darker the drinks are really tasty and the food perfect for snacks. The waiter was super helpful in helping us decide what drink we want. All in one I would come again !
This place was amazing!! The broccoli I and burrata bowl was awesome and our waiter was so nice! Great vibe, atmosphere, service, and food!
Good service, busy place, good food, always a great spot to bring a friend.
Great bartenders and a good selection of beers and whiskeys. The chicken sandwich is amazing.
This place is SO underrated! Their food is delicious and with so much variety. I tried their Bang Bang Shrimp, Popcorn Chicken, Artichoke and Kale Ricotta dip, and the Cilantro balls for appetizers. My personal favorites were the shrimp and the artichoke dip because the seasoning was just on point and the portions were huge! I also had a mocktail with honey and literally, best drink I’ve had in a while; it was sweet but with a bit of spice! You should definitely try it out for your next date, girls hangout, or anything!
Vibe was amazing! On a Friday night, it was full but not crowded. Food was surprisingly delish. Bartender was attentive. A spot to check out after work.
I had a girls night here with some new friends on a Saturday evening and we had a great experience. The service was 10/10 and we loved our waitress, Precious. This would be a great date night spot; the low lighting and club music made it such a unique experience. It also wasnt overly crowded which I loved. I tried a few appetizers and LOVED the bang bang shrimp. I also really liked their speciality shots.
The food was good and the drinks were even better!
What an awesome place!Wine was Perfect#Music was Perfect#Cheese Board was great!(But you should also add a Meat Board to the menu)
Drinks, serve and bartender was great. The doorman however was pushing us out at 2:15 when the bar closes at 3am.He basically told us that he wanted to go home so we had to leave. Not a good look.
Phenomenal brunch. Fun vibe and extremely tasty food. Menu is a bit limited but what we ordered was delicious. And I would definitely.come back here. Highly recommend the French toast sticks with a berry dipping sauce. Perfectly balanced flavors. The tater tots were also super good. Perfect amount of crispiness. We each ordered the bacon egg supreme sandwich and were very satisfied. Coffee was delicious too!
Great food. First come, first serve at the bar. Usually able to grab a spot. Outdoor seating with heaters is great in colder weather.
Excellent cocktails. Delicious upscale pub food. I highly recommend the fried chicken sandwich and burger. Tomato soup is delightfully spicy & grilled cheese is a good one. Fantastic server. Be prepared to wait for a table. Good outdoor seating choice that arent too plastic boxed in.
Always a good choice; can’t ever “go wrong” with choosing this place be it lunch, brunch, dinner or just hangin’ with friends/love relations !
Been here a few times and they have some of the best drinks/food on the UES. The staff are incredibly nice and attentive. The fried chicken sandwich is a favorite amongst my friends and I, they also have delicious sauces. The bar gets busy later at night, but its a fun place to grab a drink or bite throughout the day.
We hosted a reception at The Penrose recently, and this venue was phenomenal! The staff is organized, efficient, and professional - a true pleasure to work with. The space is ideal and great for large groups hosting reception style events. We would definitely use them again. Highly recommend!
If youre looking for somewhere to chill in upper East side, @penrosebar is the place youre lookin for!Avocado Toast with Smoked Salmon $24The Penrose Burger & Tots $21Citrus Crunch $17Love it all
Great cozy, yet classy bar. Came here for happy hour after work and enjoyed great drinks and a delicious burger! Will come back to try their brunch for sure
The food was awful, granted we ordered from the late night menu and maybe their lunch/dinner menu is better (but I highly doubt it). We ordered fries as part of our order and we got the tiny end bits not even full nice fries. The mock tails we ordered tasted like orange juice after brushing your teeth. They were blasting rock music so loud, it was impossible to hear the person next to me. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. That’s $70 we’ll never get back.
Immaculate vibes and yummy drinks! I’ll definitely be back
Used to come here all the time for brunch and it was one of our favorite places in the city. Came back today and the food is not as good as it used to be. Used to have a wonderful chicken and waffles which is no longer on the menu, and the hot honey sandwich which they added was very underwhelming and tasted more like BBQ sauce. Eggs Benedict was very mediocre as well. Unfortunately wouldn’t come back!
We threw an engagement party at The Penrose and they were incredible! Chaya, Sara and Stephen took very good care of us. The food was delicious and all of our guests had a ball. I highly recommend The Penrose!
The cocktails on point. Food delicious. Vibe so cozy, bustling, and inviting.
The drinks were phenomenal and the service was excellent.
Really enjoyed the ambiance and the food. The service was ok. Kinda felt like they were just trying to turn the table. But overall good experience. I would go back.
This place is clean, has good food and service. Two stars as they do not want families coming. No high chairs. They welcomed us and then tried as quickly as possible to rush us out the door. It is not fun to feel like a place is rushing you out the door, especially when it was not busy at all. Families beware.
So fun for a girls night! Great cocktails and snacks!
Nice scotch selection. The calamari was hot and tender. The wings were great. Nice beer selection. Cozy environment and spacious. Mature crowd but not square folks. Not great for kids more of an adult hangout. Menu was decent. Nice location. Large community table in the back. May be my new favorite watering hole in the area.
I am not sure if I should give it 4 or 5 starts as it wasnt anything special but nothing was wrong with our order either!
The food and drinks were excellent. Beware that it isnt really kid friendly. Our server didnt want to entertain the idea that we asked if they had Shirley Temples or a dessert menu. Its fine they didnt but she just gave off a vibe like it was a burden to have even asked. I expect well rounded service and it didnt quite hit that mark. Probably fine if youre on a date or something but dont expect gracious service. Its a grind for the servers apparently.
I had my birthday brunch here food was amazing and the vibe was too. Such a beautiful place
Awesome place. Great food, service and ambiance
Its a cool place with great service and a wide range of drinks and food. the only downside is that its extremely loud!! great for their business, as ppl are going out as if there was no pandemic at all, but if youre looking for a spot where you can go chat calmly with a friend, thats not the place. however, if youre looking for a lively, friendly spot on the upper east then its worth visiting 🙂👍🏼
Cool place , Love The Vibe ! & The Food ! Drinks Are Perfect! Perfect Place To Come Vibe Out & Eat & Enjoy With Friends & Or Family !
Highly recommend coming here for dinner or a late night out. They have amazing bang bang shrimp and cocktails. The service was impeccable - we were well attended to and the ambiance was 10 out of 10
Amazing food & drinks and better service. I totally recommend to stop by and enjoy the vibes
While I generally prefer a bit more classic sophisticated ambiance for martini drinking - it was very convivial and prices more reasonable.
We went here for a late night bite on a whim & it was really good. The atmosphere was nice & service was great. We will be back.
The Penrose is a local favorite of ours. My wife and I recently had our rehearsal dinner here. We had 38 people in attendance. The food, drinks, and service were all on point. Meg was a huge help in making sure the event went smoothly too, huge thanks to her too. Also, the back room was just remodeled and they did a great job adapting the space with a modern touch. Id have another event here for sure as I frequently help plan work outings. Everyone was very happy with the food and service. Prices were fair for a group that size too!
So good I got the burger and fries and it was actually fantastic. $28 so expensive for someone with no job 💀 I ate outdoors with my friends and we all really liked it. I also liked the inside when I went to the bathroom it was kind of a cool vibe only downside is that the sink has knobs and I think there was only a hand dryer which isn’t my personal preference but still 5 stars ⭐️
Great place for brunch! Very roomy and spacious which helps with lesser wait times on the weekends. The inside is very tastefully themed as well.Their French Toast sticks are the most ingenious idea and they’re so delicious combined with their seasonal dip — that alone is worth coming here for.All the staff was friendly and super mindful of anything we needed
A nice bar restaurant with the a classic menu. We came here with a group of 8 and got seated fairly quickly. Highly recommend getting the Mac and cheese.
If you’re looking for somewhere to chill in upper East side, The Penrose is the place you’re lookin for!!We ordered to share since we’re not hungry. Tasty, fast, friendly spot to enjoy a night. We had hand cut fries, artichokes & kale ricotta dip it was super tasty. Highly recommend!!!The vibe of the spot was really nice, and the restroom were really clean 10/10 !
Great food and service! Not a long wait even during busy times. Great selection of draft beers. Will definitely return!
The food and drinks were absolutely amazing. The waiter was was great very attentive to our table! Such a great way to start my weekend! What an enjoyable Friday night experience!
Love the vibe during the day when its nice and chill. The wait staff was super helpful and nice. It looks like a cozy little cabin on the inside, very warm and inviting. The food and beer selection were fantastic as well. The tacos had just right amount of heat and the fried chicken sandwich was one of the best Ive had in a while.
Mellow during the day and hoppin at night. Great drinks and very good food, especially the burger. The crowd seemed to be a good mix of people, not just one demo. Great covered outdoor seating area and lots of bar and indoor seating too.
I never write review BUT my girlfriend and I stopped in on a Thursday a few weeks ago and had an amazing time! The cocktails were amazing (dirty pickle martini was to die for!) I think our servers name was Kelly- she was so sweet and a breath of fresh air in the city. She answered our many questions with a smile. Made the experience that much better! Thanks Penrose for an a awesome evening!
Great food! Great drinks! Really fun atmosphere! I came here with a friend who was visiting from Chicago and we spent hours hanging out and have drinks and a few snacks. It is such a cute spot! Highly recommended for brunch or dinner, or just drinking!
I just recently ate at The Penrose. While we were waiting for our table to be ready. My friends and I sat at the bar to have some drinks. I asked the bartender for a recommendation on drinks but received a snide joke. The food was absolutely delicious but the bartender’s alleged joke and the manner in which it was delivered was unnecessary. I am not sure if the bartender is prejudice against black people or just having a bad day. But I would like to say to him that you never know what a person is going through. Try to be kind to others even though it may be hard too. If you woke up in a bad mood. Go back to sleep and try again. It is very disheartening to see that other people were treated nicely but I did not receive the same treatment and for what reason I don’t know.
Liked the Penrose a lot. Food very tasty. Made quickly and good to share. Service was great from Connell behind the bar. Good selection of drinks and a friendly crowd without being too noisy.
The food/drinks are always great and most is the staff is super nice. However, the past few times we’ve dined here, the hostesses at the front podium are always rude and have an attitude. To the point where my friends will experience this and mention it to us when they’ve went as well. We’re always polite to them and they tend to respond with snarky attitudes and rude responses, can’t really understand why as the rest of the staff is fantastic. It’s soured our experience here the past few times we’ve went and gives off a bad look to Penrose.
The sharable plates were big, thumbs up for the Brussel sprouts, shishito peppers and artichoke dip. Also great pickled cocktail and spicy margaritas. Place did get a bit crowded but got a seat at the bar and it was comfortable
Had a great experience here today! They have tables setup with a glass-partition encasing 3 sides, and all of the staff wore masks (and I believe gloves?). The seating looked cramped but did not feel that way at all. We were seated quickly, but you may want to go early because seating is limited. The food came out quickly and was DELICIOUS (we highly recommend the fried chicken sandwich and a side of hand cut fries). Just as important, they accommodated my food allergies (nuts/peanuts)-- they even put allergy sandwich toothpicks in both our mains, which made me feel good that the kitchen was aware of my allergy.Cant wait to go back!
Spacious interior, nice ambiance, good noise level to carry a convo. Service was fast and friendly. downside is the food was pretty bad. we got fried pickles and the bang bang shrimp. I got a fried chicken sandwich and my friend got a tomato soup & grilled cheese. The pickles were so breaded and starchy without any real flavor. My sandwich arrived cold but the taste was ok..nothing to rave about food-wise, would probably come back and just stick to drinks.
The atmosphere is lovely, and the food is delicious 👅❤️ the kitchen closes pretty late 🕕
Went there 11:20am on Sunday, a short waiting time around 10 minutes.Egg Benedict is definitely great and tasty, French toast is good. The coffee is just average but it offered bottomless service.Inside decor is nice, and service is above the average.Overall I recommend this place and will go back again and try more dishes!
I had a fabulous experience at the Penrose! Excellent and friendly service, amazing drinks, delicious food! Can’t wait to go back!
Excellent fried pickles with a bit more heat to their Chipotle aoli than Ive had elsewhere (which was good!). The Mac and cheese was also very filling and the beer selection has a few surprises and seasonal options. It can be a bit loud outside so if youre looking for more quiet conversation, perhaps come at an odd hour or look elsewhere.
This is a really well put together place. I love the bar at the front & the slave in the back. Thankfully light on the bro factor for the area. Drink list is well designed with better than decent bites. The breakfast sandwich during brunch is almost the best Ive had in the city that didnt come from a sidewalk kart. Kudos to the unpretentious wait staff, the one homie was rolling with the punches pretty well.
Nice ambience. Great spacious layout. Great beer selection. Single malts galore. Calamari was delicious and tender. Quality wings. Decent prices that were actually cheap for the area. Mature crowd. May be my new favorite watering hole.
So great to come back to my home place and have a great time. Good food, good people and fantastic atmosphere 👌 Definitely recommend The Penrose to anyone visiting the NYC area!!
The bartender was so kind! I love that they have good mocktails and food is exquisite!!! I just would lower the salt but I can eat with no salt so don’t mind me 🫶🏼
The security guard did kick out my group for no reason. He told me and my girl to be responsible for my buddies, and I got shocked with how rude he was.We tried to be respectful and he was just like “end of conversation”I had never seen any security guard who dare s to judge customers just because they were happy. Is he being racist?
Good service and nice ambient. Went for brunch. Menu was not extensive but food was very good. Especially, fried chicken which came with rosemary butter, was moist inside and tasty. Very reasonable prices considering the neighborhood.
Had a solid 6 hour session here. Staff are great and accommodating. Good cocktails and beers. The fried chicken burger is excellent. Great people watching as this seems to be first date central
Great ambiance, cool little bar with a back seating area for lunch - really liked the retro feel and everyone was incredibly friendly. I had the scrambled eggs with spiced beef and was picking my plate for leftovers it was so good. Good portions for a decent price ($12 will fill you up) and a good selection of beers makes this place a great stop-by before a day adventure. Would love to come back here at night; its got a great feel.
A friend from the neighborhood recommended this spot and it did not disappoint. Came for brunch on a Saturday. Arrived around 11:45 and was seated by noon. Service was great and the food was good
Great restaurant/bar on the upper east side! They have delicious craft cocktails but the bar gets very crowded most nights of the week! Their brunch menu is delicious and I can not wait to return for dinner - the mac and cheese looks ridiculous! Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Nice spot on the Ave. Decent choice of meals and served rather quickly. Hit and miss on drinks, spicy margarita was delish , sangria was like a fruit munch. Over all nice spot surely will visit again..
Thats good place and nice food.
We had brunch at the BarBar seating is first come first serveThe place was packed on Sunday 1ish pmWe had great food
The vibe and energy of this place is fantastic!! The drinks were delicious- Afterglow is a good choice if you prefer a sweeter drink. And the espresso martini was FABULOUS! Must visit place
Cozy spot, probably a great place to grab some drinks, but not such a great place for food!Kind of just is what it looks like.
Very nice place! I went there for dinner and some drinks and was not disappointed. I had the mac and cheese and the seasonal salad with beets and goat cheese. They were both delicious! And they had an interesting beer selection (but were sold out of a couple that looked good). Good atmosphere, big TVs. Overall a nice bar!
Outstanding array of appetizers, especially the fried pickles, plus a sunny outdoor seating arrangement ideal for people watching, and a decent beer selection to boot. Service was above average, especially considering the crowd. Nice all around.
We had brunch here recently with our vegan daughter. There were delicious options for all. Definitely recommend!
Great service makes a great dining experience even better. Weve been to the Penrose several times, both for dinner and for brunch. Always good food; always good service. The dinner crowd can be a bit loud, so its not a quiet, romantic place. But it is fun, and the food is unique enough to stand out in a neighborhood crowded with decent places to eat. The vegetarian burger actually tastes good, and the fried pickles are like none Ive ever had before. Excellent fried chicken sandwich. What inspired me to write a review is one particular server. When you go, ask to be in Marcus section. If you have to wait, wait for him. Marcus really goes out of his way to not only be a good waiter and get the drinks and food, he contributes a lot to the overall enjoyment of the dining experience. He comes across like hes hosting a party, rather than just someone who brings out the food. Going from table to table, not only checking if you need more water or something, but chatting with the patrons and laughing with them.So yeah, go to the Penrose. And enjoy the party that Marcus hosts there.
Amazing atmosphere Great food! Highly recommend.
Great brunch ambiance! We spent a joyful morning sharing the French toast appetizer; sweet and perfectly golden brown bread. That pumpkin spice syrup was just a match made in heaven. I highly recommend the eggs Benedict, buttery bread with fresh salmon will make your day. Staff was really friendly and service overall was exceptional.
Didn’t feel welcome here at all. i live in the area and came for veggie burger after work (which doesn’t come with fries by the way) and the bartender failed to mention that. who wants a burger without fries? bun was hard as a rock as well. not sure what it is but i got the vibe that he either just didn’t care to serve me or wasn’t having a good night. anyway $27 for a mediocre burger and bad service is not cool. i could have gone to burger king for a better meal. more of a dive bar than a restaurant so if you like that vibe then it’s the place for you.
The food was delicious and I loved the lively vibe! Their service was good!
Average brunch food / flavors. Drinks were really good.
Was a horrible experience, came in at 5 on a Sunday was told there would be a 20 minute wait for a table for two people, we we were put on the wait list. After waiting long enough we were on the way out and I got a message saying a table was ready, when we returned they had set up a small table that was dirty (had to be cleaned) just in between two booths at the loudest part of the bar (see image). Was well below any standard Id seen before. I would not recommend having a date here. I did not stay.
