I had the pleasure of dining at The Spaniard in NYC, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between cozy and upscale, making it an ideal spot for a night out.The highlight of our evening was our waitress, Shaman. Her service was absolutely top-tier—she was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. Shaman went above and beyond to ensure our experience was flawless, from her thoughtful recommendations to her impeccable timing. She truly elevated our night and made us feel like VIPs.The food and drinks were equally impressive. The menu offers a delightful mix of elevated comfort food and classic cocktails. The burger is a must-try, and the Old Fashioned was one of the best I’ve had in the city.If you’re looking for a place with exceptional service and incredible food, The Spaniard is a must-visit. Ask for Shaman if you can—you won’t regret it!5 stars all the way!
If youre trying to decide between the smash burger and the patty melt, the burger is at least 100x better. The Brussels were good but they get soggy quick because theyre sitting in sauce.Overall the food here is okay for American fare.Kinda fratty vibes in the bar, but if youre at a table its a completely different atmosphere.
Definitely a great place to have brunch on a Sunday! Got there at 11 right at opening and it wasn’t busy. The crowd comes in around 1. The food was great but more on the pricier side. The service was nice and friendly! The vibe of the place is nice. Very close to the 1 train and the Blue line too. I highly recommend this place for sure
Wonderful experience. Stopped in for cocktail and snacks. Kat was our server and she was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, fantastic recommendations. Warm, friendly service. Thanks for a great afternoon!
Delicious smash burger!! Juicy, great flavors and quality. So good I wanted to order a second right then, but one was filling. Very efficient service, friendly without being overbearing. Will come back whenever I’m in the area.
Food is ok. We had better expectations. The security guy was super rude. Unacceptable.
The food was delicious; we had the burger and the steak tartar. The service was good. I had to remove a star for the ambiance as it was crowded and a bit annoying. Also, security was barking out orders like they were cattle calling at a dude ranch to move people around to clear a path near the bar for severs. It could be better if they didn’t overpack it in my opinion. Otherwise the cocktails were delicious as well. Price was fair.
No pictures taken this time around, however this establishment is a vibe! You have to experience it in person. Very laid back and chillax. They have a great selection of food and drinks. My friend and I ordered the smash burger and popcorn chicken. The drinks were tasty. Much appreciated for the great bite to eat!4.96 out of 5
Have you ever met a bartender so legendary you wonder if they moonlight as a stand-up comedian? Enter Paul, the maestro of the backroom bar.Paul doesn’t just serve drinks—he serves moments. Order a simple gin and tonic, and somehow you’re leaving with a custom cocktail, a life lesson, and a hilarious story about how he once tried to start a bartending soccer league. The man’s got skills: flipping bottles, remembering orders like Rain Man, and roasting customers just enough to make you laugh but not enough to ruin your night. I asked for a margarita, and he gave me a drink he called the “Chair New York Special.” What was in it? No idea. Was it amazing? Absolutely. The backroom bar feels like a speakeasy you’re lucky to stumble upon, and Paul is its eccentric king. If you’re not ordering a drink from him, are you even living?5/5 stars. Paul is the kind of bartender who could make water taste like Dom Pérignon.
Inside was good atmosphere. Waitress was really rude She didn’t even say hi when I ask her hi how are you she didn’t respond just said here is the menu. Food was okey but overpriced
Located in the West Village, The Spaniard is a great bar!! I visited recently with my boyfriend + a couple of our friends (we needed a nightcap after dinner at L’Artusi), and this was a good spot to finish the night at. They make a nice spicy margarita, and the atmosphere inside of The Spaniard is really lively. I’m looking forward to returning to try some of their food menu items!!
Proper lunch and dinners spot. Beautiful buzzing bar. Loads of whisky choices. An espresso Martini thats pure Village. And, possibly the best onion rings ever. The Cheese Smash Burger is an homage to America . My West village go to.
If you come to the Spaniard (which has THE BEST vibes overall) you MUST try their popcorn chicken. It is so good, it made my ENTIRE night, I mean who doesn’t love popcorn chicken?!? My table ordered 3 orders because of how much we loved it. 12/10 experience.
Kristin is the best! I had such a great time. I used to come to this bar back when it was Jimmy Days. She really made my experience at The Spaniard amazing.
I thought this place was extraordinary. But there are definitely strengths and weaknesses. I took lots of pictures - we had lots of food. Lots of drinks. Overall this is a higher quality spot, and you can taste it, but also - youre payin for it. 4 drinks will run you $50. So if its a date, dont go here with penny pinching in mind. Brace yourself - youre about to spend some money. But its great. Mosquito was great, paloma not so much. Appetizers were great. Wings, calamari stood out to me. Burger was standout. Steak was ok, maybe not the choice here. Salad isnt why you should go here. Outside is better than inside. Bar area gets crowded, had an older 20s vibe. Not my thing. Service was great. Food came quick. Drinks were strong. Great location. Il remember this place.
Terrible service… I’ve been coming here for years… today they decided to close early asked for last call.. we decided to get our last round and literally five minutes later security came over told us to we’re close and you need to leave now. Our glass more then halfway full. We told him we just revived our drinks. We wanted to finish our drinks as fast as we can. But security kept asking us and we were fed up. I asked for a refund and we left. Terrible!! What poor service to ask a customer to leave with a full glass.. won’t be coming back…
Wonderful drinks, ya have to try the Pink Stiletto, delicious!
Delicious and refreshing! Had 2 Espresso Martini great Tapas-Experience:: Charcoilled Oysters & Beef Tartare. Perfect service and such a chique place.
Took forever to get a drink even without it being crazy inside. The bartenders were just not it. Atmosphere is cute and feels polished. Drinks are expensive. A little bro-y
Network is everyright.People who love what they do should always be praised. Many thanks to Leon the manager. Showed me a good time. Came across the place. Was full and the manager personally made me feel at home. Lovely and helpful staff.Much recommended for locals and travellers
Trendy spot with really delicious cocktails and a varied and distinguished whiskey menu. We had the spicy margarita which was awesome, a great amount of heat and it went down smoothly. I was happy to see my favorite bourbon and had a glass of Blantons which needs no review. The service was awesome with our fun blonde bartender who befriended us and we had quite a few laughs. Would recommend coming here if you have the chance!
The way my friend just didn’t want to go in without me and the bouncers labeled her as too impaired to come in is nasty work. All the people who went in after us were literally even more impaired😭then the bouncers claimed I had an agenda against them💀
Food was incredible but super packed on a Friday night. Had the gin cocktail with seasonal fruit as well as the Mosquito. Both were amazing. Best cocktails I’ve had in a while.Tried to meet friends here for a birthday dinner but we ended up walking to another bar. No table space or room at the bar to gather, unfortunately. Would love to go back on a weeknight.
Really enjoyed our dinner experience here. Came with the family and got one of their comfy booths. Love the vibe inside the Spaniard. The Smashburger was delicious and they have a great whiskey selection. Would definitely come again.
Was trying to celebrate a bday here. Let me save you the trouble. Incredibly rude staff that act high and mighty and don’t respect their clientele. Will never be returning and from the looks of other reviews this is a constant issue.
The fries were incredible and we loved the service here!
I heard this was the spot to go if you wanna meet people in nyc & i would agree. (that is if you go in the evenings, would say after 8) and i know at least one person who met his girlfriend here.there’s usually a line on evenings but it moves fast. tends to be pretty crowded and can be hard to breathe lmao. relatively young ish crowd for the most part from what i’ve seen.they have a “speakeasy” with a DJ (i think at least on thursdays)they also have my fave drink of all time aka the penicillin so can’t complain too much
The Spaniard was incredibly underground in 2016 when I first stumbled upon it on a west village jaunt. Since then, it has probably been written up in every timeout New York magazine issue and there’s usually a line of Zoomers waiting to get in.The brunch is phenomenal. The vibe is electric. And if you don’t have to wait in line, the whole experience is relaxing. The inside bar (when open) is the quintessential New York first date spot / let’s meet up after dinner spot.New York is back. That’s because New York never left. The Spaniard is the perfect example of that. For brunch, get the green eggs. It will change your life. And the biscuits with butter.
Burger was fantastic. Our waiter was great, attentive, and suggested great drinks from their menu. I wish they had a smaller set of sides for individual order, but overall great.
We (my brother and I) stumbled in from the rain after walking around, reminiscing the old times in the village. Delicious smash burger, fresh cut fries, and a pink stiletto to help it all go down.
Came at night time in a group of 5 girls and 6 guys. bouncer turned us away because of 1 guy being “too intoxicated” mind you this was our DD. tried explaining, but they wouldn’t even let us get a word in. “a decision is a decision” they kept repeating. they then lost 11 people’s business. never would go back.
Absolutely awesome, great service very hospitable. Even the patrons are cool. Its like be transported to a different place once you enter because the vibe is definitely dope.
I went out for my friends birthday here and grabbed a table outside for us. The “heaters” were above the tables and didn’t help much keeping me warm, but I stuck it out waiting for my friends. I asked the waiter if the “crudité” was any good and said he thought so. The plate I was given was ridiculous. I was charged 13$ for the worst plate of veggies I’d ever seen. I was asked about it and was very clear that I did not enjoy them, but it was never removed from my bill. I ordered the Burrata dish after that that was a substancial difference and so much better! Then when my friends finally showed up we were offered an indoor table and began to relocate. The birthday girl was the last to arrive but when I told the bouncer she was with me, he proceeded to yell at me about needing to “let him know what’s going on” and berated us to no end. I explained that the hostess never said I couldn’t bring my very late friends inside with me and that it was her birthday and to cut her some slack. He still went on and asked to get the hostess. The hostess did apologize but this was the most offensive and rude bouncer I had ever met. This place needs to speak to their bouncers about how they speak to paying customers. My check was 175$, and our night was just ok. We won’t be returning!
Good but pricey $$. We ordered the artichoke dip & burrata. Both were delicious but their drinks were definitely on the pricier side!
We visited on a crisp February day and enjoyed a delicious red bloody mary (they also offer green) and excellent salmon Benedict. The interior was cozy but spacious and well likely return.
John the bouncer was very rude. He told us our friend was too intoxicated meanwhile we are sober and no one of us had a single drink. I asked him what made her look too “intoxicated” and he said “she moved too fast” which is extremely inappropriate. If we were too drunk I would not leave a review or care, but we were not. This is extremely unprofessional. If you work at a bar you should know the difference and to judge someone off of how they move is not right.
This place has a cool vibe and the burger is top-notch, no doubt about it. However, one day I found myself in an uncomfortable situation when a security guard reprimanded me for speaking loudly inside the bar, even though the background music was at a considerably high volume. It seems like some of the security here suffer from the infamous small power syndrome, which is quite disheartening. It seems like the security staff here could benefit from some sensitivity training to ensure theyre not unnecessarily making patrons feel uncomfortable. I hope management is attentive to these issues and takes steps to ensure that all customers feel welcome and safe.
Excellent house wines. Green scrambled eggs were also quite good but on the small side. Trendy location.
Excellent food and service, cant wait to come back. There /was/ a big puddle of human urine right in front of the only door, but the poutine and spicy chicken sandwich were just excellent!
Literally changed my favourite whiskey with their thoughtful approach to my greatest weakness. Bless the Spaniard
Awesome food, service and atmosphere! Shaman was a great!
The spot is on a good location, the decoration inside was really has some atmosphere and food was OK, too. But the table was dirty and sticky, the waitress who served us had an attitude (the name in receipt was Deanna but idk), she never introduce herself nor communicate with us from the first second she just put the qr code thing on our table and told us to scan. Thats all. The place doesnt have diet coke or diet pepsi option which is super weird for a gastropub located in nyc. Overall is was just mehh. Below average.
Had my phone stolen here. Type of peopleThat go here are also basic and not interesting
The servers and host are so rude and look genuinely unhappy to be thereFood was alright when we finally got it!
There’s no place like The Spaniard where I can find amazing service thanks to Donna and a great atmosphere! A favorite spot of mine in the neighborhood.
Big nice place. Liked the fired chicken salad and chop burger.
Kale dip not bad. Steak overdone for medium rare and super low quality. Mushroom tart ok. Very noisy.
The atmosphere is nice, the burgers are good and the cocktails are decent. Would go here again!
Went here on a Friday night after a work event, and it was super packed. That being said, we had some of the nicest and most knowledgeable bartenders, GREAT whiskey selection. My friends had some Angels Envy rye, I had a vesper (best vesper I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of vespers). One of my friends also got an old fashioned, and the bartender (Q) made a whiskey blend for her - I had a sip - it was incredible. We will be back - looking forward to trying their food :)
Fine spot with decent seating options and a more than decent whiskey selection! A little dim and crowded and loud inside for any kind of intimate conversation.
The place and environment was nice ,but bartender who has mustache wasn’t nice. We asked 4 times our check and it took so long him to give our check. He was giving attitude. At the time we were there, the bar was almost empty and we were trying to give drink order, he wasn’t really paying attention.
Hope and Georgia were the nicest servers, so pleasant to chat with and they made our evening that much more fun. We had whiskey sours which were terrific! Great place to people watch. Will go back to try the food. Cheers!
I love this place! I went here for the first time last weekend and had so much fun that I came back with more friends on Thursday. The crowd is mostly 20s and 30s and a great place to meet people (everyone is talkative and friendly)! Also, John who works there is wonderful and made sure to keep the vibe happy. It’s definitely a place to socialize on the weekend, so if you’re looking for a quiet place to sit down and just lay low I wouldn’t recommend. But if you’re in the mood to have fun and enjoy a social night— this is definitely the place! We’ll be back for sure!
I recently had the opportunity to film a birthday party at The Spaniard, and this neighborhood gastropub really stands out. The place offers a well-curated menu featuring American classics, burgers, an extensive whiskey and cocktail selection, all while exuding a throwback vibe thats hard to resist. But what really sets this venue apart is the private room in the back. Its an intimate yet dynamic space that comes with its own bar and bartender. The catering staff were on point, keeping the delicious bites coming all night long. The room itself is a design gem, blending retro and modern elements in a way thats both nostalgic and fresh. The Spaniard offers more than just good food and drinks; it offers an experience. Whether youre planning a private event or looking for a unique spot for a casual night out, this gastropub has got you covered.
We come back to The Spaniard every time we visit nyc. Always a great time. Kristin is so fun! Great bar.
I ordered a casamigos and they said they don’t have it. I said you guys should get it because people love it and it’s good. The bartender said they’re the best bar in the city and people will come whether they have it or not. Kind of disappointing
The bouncers here enjoy being nasty to customers and are inconsistent. Told me and my girlfriends we weren’t getting in, but my boyfriend was able to get us in. Another night my boyfriend and his friend tried getting in and the bouncers were so rude for no reason. They asked why and they refused to give any sort of valid reason and were cursed at ???? By bouncers ???? Who do you think you are to treat people like that ???? Pathetic that they can’t even lie and give a reason. Don’t waste your time or money here.
Burger was fine. Dipped a bit from its original hype days. Definitely better in the day for a football game, before all the packed drunken nonsense there nightly. Fine for a pitstop if needed around there.
The blonde bartender is hilarious. Great bar. Good banter. Charged my phone. She was a hoot!
Mikey was the best server I’ve ever experienced at this establishment. It’s nice having true New Yorkers serve you in your hometown. I’m so excited to come back here. I hope Mikey works every single time I’m here. Cheers.
Did not let my friend and I in after waiting for 20 minutes in the freezing cold. Started questioning us but no other group around us. Could not provide a sufficient reason why. Will not be going back.
We went there around 2AM and this was one of the few bars in the area that was open. It was very lively with great crowds of people. Drinks are very pricy but ambiance was nice.
Fine in the day, nice staff and great service. But on a Friday night do not bother. They ram the place full then security literally push people to clear paths. I was tapped and pushed and told to move endlessly til I found a table and then I watched people getting shoved and screamed at by the rudest guys working for the security. Was hell.
A really nice little place. Everything was very clean and the interior was designed and laid out well. The bartenders and servers were very friendly and seemed to enjoy working there. The food was good, but it took a little long to come out, although this may have been because I arrived at an awkward between lunch and dinner time. I dont like scotch or whiskey but they have a large selection and my friend enjoyed what he got. I would definitely go back.
It was a little tough to get service in the outdoor area because the place had already turned into a nightclub inside, but our waiter Evans was so friendly it didnt really matter. The food was the star! The steak tartar was awesome as was the burrata and the French fries were some of the best and freshest we have ever had! I loved the New York Strip and nobody I was with seemed to mind their burgers, their mushroom salad, or the fried chicken sandwich.
Terrible service with unprofessional door. Door guys had arguments with many people infront of me for no reason that was not chic at all. There is another bar just other corner much better service with smiling people. Not suggesting to come here
I come to this place all the time, last Saturday my cousin came to town to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately the bouncer in a very hurtful and offensive way told him he was not allowed to go inside because of his appearance.Me and my friends have always been regular clients and I will never come back to a place where they are racist and descriminate clients.
Had a great lunch the steak tartare and the chicken salad are to die for
Easily the best place Ive dined and drank at since the pandemic began. I felt very safe because the tables are all far apart from each other and there was beautiful outdoor lighting. So many tables that wrap around both corners of the restaurant. Only one person allowed indoors for the bathroom at a time. Drinks are just as good as I remembered them and such a friendly management/staff. We will definitely be back.
Drinks could’ve been stronger but the food was amazing. I got a spicy chicken sandwich which could’ve been spicier but it was very flavorful. The spinach artichoke dip was the best I’ve had in a while.
Shaman was charming and very attentive to my experience dining here. Definitely looking forward to coming back. Great drinks as well
Went here for brunch with a same day reservation for 1 pm on a Saturday. We were about to get a table for two, 45 minutes prior to our reservation time. The street side seating was comfortable, but their covered benches outdoors offers a great seating area for larger groups. Staff overall is very welcoming and friendly and we were seated on our table right away.We ordered 3 cocktails which included a Spicy Margherita, Paloma, and a Passion Fruit Mojito which were all priced at $16. All cocktails were absolutely excellent, especially the Spicy Margherita which had both, a spice and alcohol kick! For food, we got Green Egg Scramble ($15) and a Veggie Smash Burger ($17). While the food was very flavorful, the portion sizes were quite disappointing and the price to value ratio just did not feel good.We also had an incident where a drunk hobo harassed us for a few minutes and the restaurant staff didnt really intervene.Overall though, we had a good time here. Service definitely was good, and food arrived within 20 minutes of ordering.
LEON IS AMAZING this place rocks 10/10 every time
Interesting multi-room bar located in west village area. Irish pub feel, pretty casual and no too busy, at least on a Sunday evening. The drinks were not bad, although a little pricey. We didnt try the food. We sat at the bar and talked a bit with our bartender, she was friendly.
I was really excited to try this restaurant after hearing great things, so i decided to go with 3 friends during the afternoon for cocktails and lunch. When we arrived, we were sat in a booth, and no one came over to our table for 15 minutes (and it was not crowded!). When we finally ordered our drinks, we did not get them for another 30 min, and the server never asked if we wanted food. At this point, we also noticed another couple sitting at the bar who also was not getting any service who ultimately decided to get up and leave. When our drinks finally arrived, some of them were spilled on the table without any apology (or napkins) and these are quite expensive ($18) drinks. The draft espresso martini was not good at all. We finished our drinks and by then no one had ever come back to our table. After another 30 min or so, we ultimately had to go find someone who works there and ask them to please bring our check. At no point were we ever asked if we wanted any food, any other drinks, or really anything. It was one of the worst service experiences Ive had at any restaurant.
This village bar and grill has great atmosphere but can be a little noisy. Took my mom to mother’s brunch and it was very tasty. The grilled oysters were the best thing we ate. Could have had 2 dozen more. The food took a very long time to come out even the appetizer But the server was super nice and gave us a round of drinks on the house. I am always a fan of a place that will recognize when they are behind and want to show you that your business means something. It’s a fun spot with huge bar lots of regulars and is in the heart of the west village
Great place to go. The staff were 1st class, and the food was brilliant . So glad I came here. When I visit USA again I will definitely be coming here again
I went on a Thursday night, it was packed with a good crowd both young and old.Very easy to recommend this great bar.
This place has some really good margaritas. I came here With one of my friends has he mentioned it is a good salsa dancing bar. To our surprise, the upstairs bar what she had been to previously did not have many people and was charging a $20 cover. We must’ve picked a bad night, but including that as part of my review as that definitely deterred us from going upstairs.
I had an amazing time!! good drinks good vibes & it started with David at the door (love their jewelry btw) who was able to give us a table when it was so busy!
Great place with good cocktails, food and service. I had a Japanese whiskey cocktail and my friend had a Manhattan. Both were well made. We also had oysters and steak tartare, which were pretty good. Our waitress was nice and with a great sense of humor. The atmosphere in the place is vibrant. They have a little back room at the back of the place which will be good for any private event. Definitely recommend this place!
Really delicious cocktails and a fun ambience. The place gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights with a younger crowd but doesn’t make it any less with the visit. Bar staff are sensational and friendly, making it a great place to visit before dinner.
The spaniard is a tough one, because ive been here many times for cocktails but ive never dined in until last week. I met a few friends for brunch but no one seemed to like their meals. mostly food was described as mid - I wasnt in to the menu, either, so I did t order anything. however my dirty martini was good and came with castelvetrano olives so that felt like a small snack in itself. I would say come for the cocktails but skip the food - try and eat at minetta tavern down the block.
Very nice bar, fantastic food, however staff not very motivated, poor service
10/10 Roxy is the bestand everyone else who works there is cool too
Had a filming business meeting here with my team and was amazed at the vibe and food here! Absolutely loved this place and will return for future events and occasions.
Great lunch spot! Cool vibes
Disappointed that we were chased off from a table while finishing drinks after spending as much as we did. Nothing like the table being cleared and the hostess showing up trying to chase you off. Extremely rude stating And who seated you at this table. ...she did about an hour earlier. And with no notice to leave in a certain time window or any conversation. We had literally just finished the food, just paid the bill, and were finishing the last of our drinks.Great food and a ton of potential, but the service could use some work.
Honestly, this place ruined my whole night. Thanks Rebecca for being kind.I was told before I ordered by the manager Leon I had to put my vape away, cuz it might tempt me. It only got worse from there.Food was mediocre but the servers were kind. Blah blah.Average place in a good location w some workers really trying to SERVE.
So… as an local expert I can’t tell…we came here for birthday party. They placed us outside, it’s ok, but we reserved inside. Not a problem. We ordered calamari and it wasn’t calamari, it was mix of different seafood and each piece was a size of a small as a hair clip, also we ordered burger and they couldn’t even add the tomato in it, but it still fine, I can deal with it, but tomatoes not so expensive to add it to menu. The most important part was a claims , they were half empty and super small sized. The only great thing about this place is a drinks. Drinks are really good, especially Spaniard 75. Also artichoke dip was amazing. But that’s it. I will not come back to this place. I’m sorry. After I posted review I visited a restroom. That was a shock. I think because this place is so crowded , restrooms is so dirty, omg. It was shock
On of the busiest fun filled bars in the west village. You have to stop by on Sundays and ask for Alejandro. Amazing bartender/employee that cares about mastering his craft ! Be aware the line maybe long on the weekends. Def a great village hotspot.
The place is pretty but the staff is so rude. We tried to stand near the bar and sit a table and even just stand in the bar, we were asked to move away each time. People kept coming to come at us to tell us werent allow to be there. After we spent so much money on cocktails that were really bad.
Kristin is the best. Randomly stumbled into this bar and she made our experience great.
Didnt expect much before the visit, but every dish was great and server was friendly as well.Burger and chicken wings were great and draft beers were better than those in my hometown.
Its all about the scene. Great to go for a drink. I would not recommend it for a special dinner or meal, which was my case. I went there for a birthday because it closes late. The meals were fine but not amazingly served, same for cocktails.
Burgers and hand cut fries are fabulous. Ribeye hash has four small pieces of delicious steak, but overloaded with potatoes , simply not worth $21.00 , cocktails are very short on the alcohol. Not recommended for a date night because the configuration of the seating offers no booths , or tables to be by yourselves. We’ll probably go back, but next time if the drinks are short, we’re going to complain. Service was fabulous.
Was there in one of the back rooms for our company holiday party.
The interior is beautiful and the staff was terrific. The Smash Burger was delicious and and I suggest the New York Old Fashioned.
Kristin, the bartender, was amazing. She was warm and welcoming immediately, and has such a cool vibe I didn’t wanna leave. She is the kind bartender you want taking care of you.The food is outstanding. The purple rice bowl IS spicy but not overpowering. I felt great having healthy food that actually tasted delicious, I felt indulgent. Perfectly cooked fries as well. I will be back!!If I wasn’t headed back to work, I would have tried the watermelon michelada. There’s always next time!
Leon is the only reason I come!!! Amazing time when I go!!
The Spaniard is great. Almost a hidden gem in neighborhood if you dont know of it. Outside it doesnt look like anything special. A friend living in neighborhood for 10+ years told me j had to go and try it out. AMAZING. Such an incredible find thats one walked by all these years. Great food. Friendly staff. Great place do dine on a date, friends, family or alone. Low key pride themselves in their authentic food. Highly recommend
The atmosphere was nice but the servers are extremely rude. Annie Hamilton the waitress had a nasty attitude. The host was stuck up and snobby. The food was good and the drinks. Wouldn’t go back because the servers were too rude
Very nice whiskey list. Tuna melt was great.
Love their biscuits and wide variety of beer and cocktails.
Great bar!! Some of the best Fries Ive had in a while. Great cocktail list and whiskey options. My friend whos hard to please when it comes to bubbles was highly impressed. Thats a Win!
A+ Quality without atititude. Great whiskey focused drinks, great concise menu of delicious food. Definitely a solid spot for after work, or if you are local enough to become a regular. If you want to sit down at a table though, better place ahead.
Recently went back. The food is and has been top notch since they opened! Drinks are the best in the area! They also have and amazing spirit selection! Its definitely a must have.
Went for lunch in between classes. There were not a lot of lunch options. Prices were a lot for just a sandwich no side, and salad was also not worth it for the ingredients. The food was tasty and service was good or I would have given less stars.
The bar was overly crowded and noisy. If you like those kinds of places, youll love it. I ordered the kale artichoke dip, which was really yummy, and the mosquito, which was just okay. I just didnt enjoy the ambience. @goodforjo
Beautiful atmosphere, beautiful people; you can watch a football game without making it your sole focus; spacious; good cocktails. My only complaint is that the bar was understaffed the day I visited, so it took ages to get a drink and to receive or pay your bill.
Overpriced cocktails in a beatiful atmosphere. Bartenders are usualy rude. Your choice babe.
Drinks were soooo disappointing! ordered a gin sour, was charged exorbitantly for gin, lime and ice. so disappointing
The fact that Ive come here multiple times for work and personal drinks and wasnt allowed to run in and use the restroom in an emergency on a walk is beyond rediculous. Will not be back since your team and policies are silly at best and inhumane at worst
Staff was rude on the phone when I tried to make a reservation. They sent me a text 6 hours before my reservation to confirm. I didnt see the text and they cancelled without warning after only 3 hours of not responding. Ive had this booked for weeks and it was gone without warning. Staff didnt pick up the phone when I tried to fix it.Nothing in the original reservations warned me to check my phone for a confirmation text day-of. Change your reservation system please. Its very inaccessible and unnecessary.
Nice bar and restaurant in the West Village. Convenient to the jazz clubs, although this place is a destination in itself. Lovely bar scene with hip clientele, but also a comfortable dining room with a second bar. They serve excellent food even late at night.
These guys are true experts at abetting and enabling predatory behavior. Reported an issue to bouncers and management THREE times before the predator in question grabbed the woman I was with. Here is to hoping this review saves at least one person from entering this creep den.
Pretentious, Overstated, and overrated. This is a classic NYC type of bar. With your above average pricing and below average service, you’d be hard pressed to find a place which Patrick Bateman would love to frequent more than here.
The tapas here are good but a bit pricey for what they are. In my opinion this is better as a hang out spot than a date spot. Cocktails are great as well. Service can be a bit slow, but thats probably due to the bar atmosphere
The smash burger was amazing. Definitely college bar vibes…quite pricy for the kind of place it is.
In what world does a burger not come with fries. Beers are small too. Good atmosphere though.
Terrible Experience at The SpaniardI took my business associate to The Spaniard in Manhattan for a night out, and we spent a considerable amount of money. Around 11:30 PM, out of nowhere, one of the bouncers got mad at my business associate. When I asked what had happened, the bouncer made things worse. He grabbed the champagne out of my hand, broke the glass, and cut my palm.Despite being the customer, I found myself trying to calm everyone down while the bouncer escalated the situation by bringing in four other bouncers. The staff at this place are clearly the wrong people for the job. Instead of calming the crowd, they seemed intent on causing harm. This place is awful. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone gets seriously hurt there soon, leading to a lawsuit. Stay away from places like this.
The Spaniard is THE spot. It’s a great date night spot. It’s a great late night spot. It’s a great happy hour spot. It’s a great brunch spot. If you like whiskey, they have an incredible selection. I highly recommend trying some of their whiskey cocktails. The charbroiled oysters are a favorite and so is kale & artichoke dip. The smash burger must not be slept on as well. If you’re looking for a rowdy late night then the back room is your spot.
So pleasantly surprised at how good the food is here! Been for the drinks before which are great too. You MUST get the smash burger (insaneee top burger in the city), caesar salad, fries, and the shrimp cocktail. The cookies are not worth it in my opinion. Want to try their brunch next!
A great bar to visit. We came here before a comedy club. A very chilled atmosphere and would love to return when we revisit New York
Very disappointing experience with foodve been brought over cold even though we were eating inside and there was literally no reason for it. My friend didnt even finish her brunch as it was served iced cold. Portions were small and overpriced for the amount of food.Staff was very nice though.
The service is really bad. Very arrogant people and just very very overly proud.
Amazeballs on ALLFOOD SERVICE VIBE
NOT cheap, but hot-diggity-damn, do they have some FINE whiskey!! The food is very good, but like any establishment of this caliber, slightly overpriced, at least for my taste. I got a burger, which was very good, and I assume used excellent ingredients, but it was $14. When Im already shellin out $18 for a coupla fingers of whiskey, I really didnt want to also drop that kinda com on the food. But, as I said, this place definitely attracts an upper crust kind of crowd. The ambiance is great, the servers were knowledgeable and friendly.Tl;dr - a little high brow for me, but excellent fare.
Tried the spicy margarita, espresso martini and aperol spritz along with the spinach artichoke dip. Loved it!The second time we also tried the fried calamari- did not like it so much since it was soggy. The server was a little late to our table and we ended up having the first round on the house!
Really great looking place and the food is quite good. However, it was so loud that we had to shout at the top of our lungs to our dining companions and we still, @ times, could not be heard. We could not wait to get out if there and we will not be going back because of that.
The guy at the door tried to sell my friend and I perc
Somewhat of a cross between a dive bar and a chilled out NY bar, gets super busy on weekends! This was the fourth place we hit up on a Friday night pub crawl and it was still alive and kicking at 3am! Great location and a fun place to hang out on a Fri/Sat night!
Came here for dinner on a Friday night with a group of 4. Unfortunantly we were seated in the main area immediately adjacent to the bar. And that was after about 20 mins of waiting for a table, even thought we arrived promptly for our reservation. While the food was fine, the experience was ruined since we could barely carry a conversation over the noise. If you are planning to eat here on a busy nighf, specifically request a table in the more secluded back room where you might have a chance of hearing your dinner companions.
The Spaniard is must go to. Their cocktails are original and delicious. The appetizers and food are great. Gets crowded, but their outside dining is clean and spacious.
Incredibly rude hostess (black girl). Was sitting outside and wanted to use the restroom and when I walked in she aggressively called out to me to ask what i was doing. I said i was going to the bathroom and that I was a paying customer. She rolled her eyes and made one last rude remark. Interesting bc there were other patrons that saw the interaction and gave me a suprised look. No need to treat people like this... I did not feel welcomed...
Ok for drinks and for pick ups😭
I mean, it’s a go-to. the line on weekends (and even weeknights when the weather is good) has been insane … but go before it gets crowded or on a sunday, or random weekday date night and get a bar-top window seat. never fails.
Went here with a group, atmosphere was lively it ended up getting packed. Food is typical 17 bucks for a mediocre burger, not served with fries of course. Only reason Im leaving a review is because I didnt like the attitude of the servers and people bussing. Felt like they were just doing what they had to and had no care to be there, if I was brought water or served something I would say thank you and not once got a your welcome by any of the staff. Maybe it isnt a big deal but it just felt very dry and rude. Would maybe stop by again to hang by the bar and grab a few beers real quick but thats about it
Love the Spaniard. One of my favorite after work bars in NY. Has a great wraparound bar that offers good space to belly-up, but the place gets packed around 6pm and youll have a hard time finding a spot if youre not there early enough.
Decent bar, but no prices on the whiskey and ended up paying a large amount of an expensive but not premium glass. Definitely a good atmosphere but if you go be mindful.
The service was okay, but the burger was a let down. It was not cooked like I expected, it claimed to be a smashed style burger but there was ZERO maillard reaction happening here. Not only that but the chef refused to give me any extra cheese, even after offering to pay extra, which the burger I got was lacking severely. Chefs that are that pretentious need to hear that they ruin peoples food by acting like an idiot like this person did. Also had the steak tartare and the lobster toast which both get a resounding MEH. If you want a tasty smashed burger thats cooked how you want, go somewhere else.
Was very polite all evening, bought one round of drinks (2 drinks) and they charged $80 for it, more than I have ever paid for a single drink in my life, because I didn’t tip they iced me out for the rest of the evening, the whole staff, needlessly petty and I tried to apologise for not tipping when they’re earning a full wage, just not worth the time really, was trying to be as diplomatic as possible but they were having none of it, I guess it is how it is
The best service in the city. I have lived here my entire life and never loved a place like I love the Spaniard. Going every weekend for Evans.
Excellent vibe. drinks and food were great. Smash hamburger was so tasty. french fries too salty (but they brought new ones).
Great spot! They always have good music on and the drinks are so good! Really great crowd of people. Food is good as well! Always a go to spot !
Lovely whiskey bar with knowledgeable bartenders and a laid back, business casual vibe. Decent selection of single malt scotch, blends, Bourbons, ryes, and Irish whiskeys. Try the house single malts; lots of bang for the buck!
Just a great location, great food, great cocktails and great service! The Spaniard checks all the boxes.Delicious burger, and fries. Delicious mussels and steak and fries. All around good times for a group of people to celebrate good times
The spaniard has all things. boys without borders, ladies dresses for prom, bouncers with corroded souls from drunk dealings-with of the just-mentioned.each night offers something entirely new -- but not really. classic new yorkers tell riveting tales of why new york rules; internationals perpetually wonder how they got here, desperately trying to decode the many-languaged madness of new yorkian dialectica.the crowd moves as a singular overdressed blob. waiters, waitresses and security unceasingly navigate from one end to the other of the horseshoe-shaped interior, never failing to arrive where they were 12 minutes earlier.the nights carry on, someone drops something theyll wait for someone else to clean up. the upper crust exit unwanted run-ins with out-of-place interns (or worse).ultimately, even if you didnt close the place down at 4 a.m., you feel like you did. and despite it all, in the following afternoons much-dreaded detox, you cant help but believe there was a little magic in there somewhere.
Abysmal people work here. Best to avoid.
Food was okay. Id recommend the Bahn mi. The place has a great ambiance and their drinks are delicious. Especially the espresso martini
Easily my most favorite vibe in the West Village. Crowd is attractive and fun. I had a pink mezcal cocktail that was insanely good. Going there tomorrow for my birthday too!
Although the vibes were good, the bartender was really bad. I don’t usually give a bad review but she was really bad. I’m a customer and I need to be treated respectfully! Never came across such attitude anywhere ever!
Paul was an absolute vibe! Great bartender, great food, great service i personally give him and this spot a 10/10
I was there Monday evening before the dinner rush 6/14/21, I am in this area a lot and I have seen this place many times, it seems a fun cool place to go to so I finally decided to give it a shot, I was seated almost immediately at the bar, there were two bartenders I noticed there were a few regulars (I’m not it was my first time there) the bartender took my order food and drink, I asked about the smash burger and the spicy chicken burger he recommended the spicy burger, I also ordered a side of fries, the burger is blah, I would not recommend this item at all, it’s just fried chicken tossed in a sauce, with some pickles and that’s it, I mentioned to the bartender that the burger was missing something like lettuce or tomato and his answer was that they don’t have tomato at all in the restaurant, I thought it was odd but ok no problem, the bartender checked in me once , I had to wait more than I wanted to pay, they were busy talking to their regulars, then I noticed that I was charged 9 dollars for a side of fries, they were just conventional hand cut fries nothing special about them I don’t mind paying but 9.00 for a side of fries, questionable, anyway this was my experience, I think I will just walk by moving forward
Burger is good. A little bit small. I realized when I went to the bathroom that I had gotten drunk in the same space many years ago when this restaurant was a different restaurant... the only thing that dont change is that things do change.
Amazing burguers and frieds. Shaman, the waitress is very nice. Thank you for your kidness.
Nice open layout bar with good vibes. Attentive staff. Went only for drinks so I cant comment on the food
Chicken sandwich and cocktails were excellent- including the espresso martini which has a chocolatey finish. Dish was small but, NY prices.
Their hot drinks and oysters were amazing. The only downside is that the service was a bit rushed, trying to make us order more before we got to finish our first drinks
Good burger, great fries, was a nice crowd on a Saturday evening, a line at the door. Packed bar, great service, had a great time.
Delicious modern american dishes with old world inspirations. the atmosphere is both intimate and spacious, both elegant and rustic, with room enough for a casual lunch or an elevated night out.
I attended a private party and the service was great. Particularly the server Alejandro was so nice and accommodating 10/10 recommended for private events.
They are crushing their open! Awesome food and drinks; this will be our new neighborhood place. We decided that instant classic institution is the best way to describe it.
A delicious espresso martini on draft, with lovely outdoor spaces. Their indoor area has a weathered vibe that gives it true character. Its what anyone in/visiting Greenwich vil. craves.
A fantastic spot for some fun cocktails and great vibe at the heart of the village!and Oscar is pretty much the awesomest bartender.
Evans was the best waiter ever!! He made my friends birthday dinner a great time!! Will definitely come back!
One of my favorite burgers in Manhattan right now. A perfect griddled double-double. Perfect onion rings too.
Weird bouncers inside, trying to control traffic and physically push anyone who tries to stand in their bar off to the sides. Terrible service. Will never come back
Good cocktails for more or less 15, beer was good too (8). There wasnt too much to eat and we left after the party begins but it seems that here are cool parties
One of my go to destinations in the West Village. The drinks are strong and made well, food is always delicious (particularly the burger), and the crowd of people here are fun.
Small portions, everythings a la carte, but the food is well-made. Elegant, nautical-themed decor. Stede Bonnet would approve.
One of the best bars in the area. Nay, the city. Service leaves a lot to be desired but it’s a very high volume place.
Nice cocktail menu
This is my second at the Spaniard. Already a favourite in the village. Unfortunately the hostess was extremely dismissive and rude, but the rest of the service was remarkable.
Dope spot for great comfort food and drinks. Best onion rings ever, the smash burger is on point, and the chutney with the patty melt is perfect.
Worst place ever 85 dollards for 2 drinks.Didn t tip caused felt robbed cab t even have a second one .Run away
Do not book a private party here unless you request that this bouncer not work the party! I was here at 6p on a Thursday for a corporate party with open bar and this jerk of a bouncer forced me to throw out my sealed orange juice (that i bought for my daughter) and a water bottle that was in my laptop bag. Ive been to 100s of bars in the city and no one does this. He obviously takes joy in bullying people trying to relax after work. There are lots of negative reviews about rude bouncers here dont waste your time so many better bars to choose from
Dave is one of the best bartenders I’ve ever had. Attentive, friendly and makes a mean drink. 10/10 would recommend
DO NOT go here on a weekend. Its awful.
Food is not really as good as it looks. Cocktails were Ok. They messed up my order and didnt do anything about it. Expensive too. Not worth the price.
Good hot toddy with cloves driven into the lemon. Beautiful bar space
Management is nice. But, a woman stole my coat here and managed to leave while wearing it. An overall disappointing experience.
Awesome space. Beautiful interior with thoughtful design. Only came for drinks, but had a really awesome interpretation of the classic Manhattan, which truly impressed. Will be going back when Im in the neighborhood next.
Unless you get a table or a bar stool this is not a good place to get a drink. People highjack the bar area and it is impossible to get the attention toon of the staff while once you do get a drink you are in everyones way all the time.
Went to the Spaniard last night after a late dinner. I got pickpocketed within 15 minutes of being there. I tried talking to a bouncer and he was so rude and yelling at me to get out of the way. I knew my phone was stolen because the person had shut off my phone but I decided to look around anyway. Multiple times the bouncer yelled at me to get out of the way and I was looking around. I talked to the head of security and they said there is nothing they can do to help me and that they would not be checking the cameras. Apparently to other people who have gone to the spaniard it is a known thing that people steal phones there. Will not be going back and the bouncers should be better at security and nicer to the customers.
Very rude staff and place sucked
Shannon is the life of the bar. Highly recommend having visited top bars around the globe
Great place, music, and ambiance .will definitely be back
Service is fair only . In the past few days, I ordered a drink and was told that I had to purchase a minimum of two drinks. In the end, we ended up with two expensive drinks on hand, the second of which was watery at the timeI finished the first one . Ive never heard of this rule before. In addition, the environment is very, very loud! Weekends should be avoided
Went the night of 2-24. I understand that it might not be fun dealing with drunk people all night as a bouncer, but the one that works inside here clearly is on a power-trip by the way he treats customers. It is perfectly reasonable to have a bouncer make sure people are not blocking the path for people to walk. It is unreasonable to tell people to move out of the way when they are against the wall (which was done to avoid blocking the bar for others to pass) and there is huge path for people to pass when it wasnt that crowded. The first time, I thought it was odd, but let it go. Later, I see this same bouncer bothering a couple for kissing in a separate room open to the public and I understand that hes just wants to bother people having a good night. To conclude, I am again against a wall on the side talking to my girlfriend and this guy again makes me move when there is nothing being blocked. I complain out-loud to my girlfriend that he wont leave people alone and he kicks me out. Never in life have I encountered somebody so power-hungry as a bouncer that he clearly enjoys bothering customers for no particular reason. It would greatly be appreciated if this was addressed by management as Im sure this is not apart of the job description of an inside bouncer maintaining order. Besides the inside bouncer, the bar is a great place to spend a few hours on a Saturday night.
The best for sure in west village. Foods are AMZING. Drinks are fine. But atmosphere of bar covers drinks. And price is reasonable. It is good enough to have smalls for dinner if you want food with drinks.Go here for true nyc
Very popular West Village bar that is usually packed on weekend nights. Young crowd generally. I went on a Sunday afternoon and sat outside and was peaceful and lovely. Servers were friendly and attentive.
Pandemic weirdness probably, but huge toast with the cheese was weird. Took a long time to get drinks, calamari was mushy. Hope its better next time.
Came early in the day. Great selection of whiskies and a very helpful bartender. Loved their cocktails.
Since writing the review below the restaurant reached out to make things right which is very kind and appreciated and I edited my review.Cool space, we sat in the back bar and lovedthe look of the place. Asked for a drink menu and bartender tossed something at us which we saw was the QR code. About 45min later got the bill to leave, and my bf’s cocktail off their menu drink was $18 and my margarita was $23, which they break out on the bill as $20 with an up charge of $3. I asked what tequila brand was used, thinking that must be the extra charge, but it was just Tesora. Bartender said $20 was the tequila and the additional $3 was for the margarita. Never heard of that, but $23 for a basic margarita in a short glass with ok tequila seems high for a neighborhood place. But we loved the atmosphere and vibe of the space.
Had a really uncomfortable and demeaning experience by someone who works here while my friend & I were buying drinks. I would advise women not to go to this bar
Lively bar with great outdoor seating and decorative lights for the evening. Light bites and good drinks.
Alright atmosphere but to be fair I went in at 10am to watch the world cup. Thought they would have brunch but only on the weekends so disappointed
Cocktails are strong and well put together, had just a few small plates but also enjoyed them
