Slightly disappointed if Im being honest... the atmosphere was decent enough but youd expect for them to lean more into the library aspect of it.The selection was a bit mediocre, and I wasnt impressed with the dirty martini. Such a simple drink that can be amazing, yet so many establishments are blase about them, serving them with trash olives. I did have one of their menu cocktails which was good. I have high expectations of craft cocktails in NYC, and this place was ok, but not phenomenal.It is part of a hotel in case that matters to anyone. People were both dressed up and down, so dress code is lenient and casual.Did not order food, so i cannot speak on that.

Very nice atmosphere. Think the drinks are not as sophisticated as they should be given the price point. They also ran out of pisco which is kind of a pity considering they don’t have that extensive of a menu. Tried the victor hugo and Colette. Good for the vibe etc. Drinks were good, not amazing.

A very cool bar inside the Hyatt hotel. Lots of drinks available even once off menu like a martini. No TVs in there and chill music which is nice and the staff are really nice as well. Would definitely recommend going for a drink and they’re reasonably priced too. They have library shelves behind with bottles of alcohol in them

Delicious but tiny cocktail (Earnest Hemingway, $18) in the littlest coupe glass Ive ever seen. The soy ginger fried chicken small plate was tasty but pricey ($16). Bartender was super friendly, and treated me well even though I was on my own at the bar seating. The music was thankfully not too loud. An expensive snack, but a pleasant vibe. Id visit again.

$18 drinks that look like this (those are two different ones btw), shame the inside is very pretty and the bar extremely well stocked. The menu has character and youd expect the drinks to as well, but these were both very bland. Regarding service the place was literally empty yet somehow we waited for about 15 min before anyone even addressed us. The fries were good, tasted exactly like mcdonalds.

Only had drinks, but they were amazing! Named for different authors, I had the Ernest Hemingway and my friend had the Collette. Right around the corner from the Strand bookstore.

This is a great after work hang. The interior is super warm, classy, and inviting. With a the mix of warm leathers, deep browns, velvet couches and elcletic lighting, this place is an amazing find. I highly recommend it here as it’s a great place to come after work with colleagues.

Beautiful building that is free and nice to have available for the public. You can walk thru it in 30-45 minutes, and contemplate the ideas for a lot longer. As with the National Gallery of Art, I knew immediately who the volunteers were by the passion in the way these lovely people helped me and shared their knowledge. Be sure to talk with as many as you can for a rich experience.Although timed tickets were required to enter, no one checked.For fun, I got a library card which gives me access to viewing books in the Main Reading Room. Its a simple process and the wait wasnt too long. However,I didnt have time to go in. Water bottles and bags larger than the size of a tablet arent allowed in the MRR. I would have had to go back down to check that stuff. I had to be on my way.Its a lovely souvenir... And one of many reasons to return to this great town.

Menu online is not the same as in the bar. None of the food is the same, food is from the restaurant next door. Drink menu is also not the same, more limited and a bit pricey-er. Atmosphere is cool and service seems nice but left as we were excited for what we saw on the website but that’s not what’s available

Very disappointing that a place with library in the name doesnt actually have any logical, reasonable, or efficient way to communicate what they have.I dont like to play the well, what kind of liquor/drink are you in the mood for game with the wait staff just to point me toward bottles I can find easily at the liquor store.A book of spirits would have been nice and on brand. Having to ask and guess which over 1500 spirits you have is silly, annoying, and a non starter. Which is why 95% will just order from the list of slightly modified classic cocktails named mostly after the same dead authors you always tend to see when bars/cocktails have a library theme (there are some great living and more recently deceased authors to tap for inspiration).And customers will never get an experience that lives up to your potential because it would seem, in reality, you didnt want them to. So at this point, youre Just a fancy hotel bar with a limited menu, which would be fine if your name was different.Essentially youre click bait irl.

We popped in for a cocktail after spending a few hours in the Strand but ended up staying for dinner. Food and drinks were all delicious and it was a nice surprise to have live jazz on a Monday afternoon. Caesar and Mike took great care of us!

This place is good! They take forever preparing your drinks and food but overall you have a good time. Drinks are always delicious as well as food. It must be some kind of missing piece in the administration/server organization of the bar because they forget/miss details while you’re there. For example: Serving water with your food or handing you utensils and napkins before your food is serve, checking if you need more drinks, etc. Once they figure out the organization part, this place can be a five star.

Centrally located right by Union Square with a spacious lounge and cool vibe, where you can always grab a table. It’s a regular post-work, meet someone for a drink place for me. Excellent cocktails and excellent selection of mezcals and bourbons.

This place epitomizes inconsistency - sometimes it’s the best… sometimes they have 1 person working as bartender, waiter and bar back all in one trying to cover 50 patrons… come on, get it together, do better. And it’s Thursday happy hour - you knew it was gonna be busy.

Such a calming atmosphere! Surrounded by books and spirits, I felt super cozy and taken care of by the awesome staff. If you’re hungry, I recommend the burger and fries combo (scrumptious for sure). You might be overwhelmed by how many options there are to choose from on the spirits menu, but I suggest you taste your way through it...YOLO!

Not sure who has had a good experience here but it was not any of the approximately 50 people in there the same time as me. The hotel management left the two bartenders to work short-staffed by themselves and they took it out on the customers. So rude. And the menu of cocktails is so tiny and the offerings of spirits is actually not that great.

Good vibes and seating available on a friday night so appreciate that but the drinks werent my cup of tea. Not enough options with vodka or gin base, and the 2 that are dont sound very good.

Didnt expect this place to be as much fun but my sister and I are making this our go to in the area. Delicious cocktails that are classics and based on more original recipes and sourcing incredients more in line with the period the drink came from. The food while a bit pricey is well portioned and absolutely delicious! Will be back soon!

Server was fantastic but definitely overloaded, running the whole seating area. Whimsical atmosphere we found delightful. Happy accident stumbling onto this between other events of the day.

Great cocktail bar near Union Sq. Its a large space, part of the Hyatt hotel complex, set in a charming wood decor, and yet this place feels like a bit of a hidden gem. The lazy lover (lavender infused) cocktail is fantastic.

Very disappointing. We walked in around 9:45 pm on a Saturday night, and we were denied service because they close at 10 pm. I can’t imagine a bar in NYC closing at 10 pm. You would think they would welcome us with open arms after the year we just had. Not at this place. Terrible!

I was there for an event. Its really nice and they have a ton of variety. 13 a round might be a bit much for a daily hotspot but for a treat they know their way around a cocktail.

Creative cocktails and varied menu. I had the Easy Rider cocktail (they had run out of the Jameson Black Barrel for the Black Rose) and the bean hummus, the bread tasted like just out the oven. Around 6pm its not too crowded and easy to find seat at bar or at a table.

Great night out with my wife and her cousin. A ton of different choices of spirits. Had the opportunity to try some Japanese whiskey which was dope. The atmosphere was pretty chill and quiet. Music isnt turned up too loud, so its easy to have a conversation with your group. The staff was very attentive. My wife had the burger, I had the Japanese chicken. Food was delicious. Definitely going to visit more often.

I was immediately captivated by the cozy, academic ambiance of Library of Distilled Spirits. The architecture and decor fit the establishment like a glove. Naming the drinks after historic authors was also a nice touch. I enjoyed a Collette and it was exceptional. Light yet flavorful. However, i did nearly choke to death on the flower adorning the drink that i am told is not edible. It was a lovely experience at Library up until a mouse scurried beneath our feet, coming close enough to inject us with rabies and/or the bubonic plague. The mouse continued wreaking havoc, disturbing most if not all of our peers. While i appreciate Remy’s endeavor in Ratatouille, i don’t believe this particular mouse was assisting in the kitchen or mixing any drinks. Unfortunately, until Library of Distilled Spirits addresses this infestation, I will likely not be returning

Went into what I thought was a nice hotel bar for drinks and desserts. Everything was fine until I saw A MOUSE scamper across the floor. And then another. And then a third. I was absolutely disgusted. Told the manager and he was apparently aware of the problem…

A $20 cocktail should actually be good. Decor and service is good, and the drink menu *looks* good, but when it comes to execution its just not on par with other cocktail bars in the neighborhood at this price point.

My wife & I have come to this place a handful of times, but today was just disappointing. By the looks of it, they went full DEI & the results were disastrous.My drink was dry & bitter, we werent served water, the staff didnt come & ask if we needed anything or another drink... I would have like tried another drink.Prior to this visit, they had 2 Mexican servers & those two were on point putting in effort & the bartender was also latino with a great hand in drinks.I put prejudgement aside... it failed.Forget equality... get QUALITY.

TLDR: an uninteresting, average hotel bar with a misleadingly exciting name and expensive decor.This bar came so close to being interesting and then just didn’t follow through. When we picked this place to grab a drink we were expecting to be able to peruse a list of unique spirits to try but it seems like they don’t actually want you to utilize the “library.” We were told that there is not a list they can give you of the all the varieties and their costs. Our server said she doesn’t know all of the names and prices off the top of her head but can check and relay the information for specific bottles if you ask. She also said that typically people who ask about the price for a pour from something don’t actually want it once they hear the price. The “library” looks very cool, but it’s very difficult to see the bottles on the shelves so that even if you might be interested you’d have to ask about anything to both verify it’s the bottle you think it is because you can’t read the label and that is a price that isn’t a crazy mark-up. It would take so much extra time to try and figure out what you want to drink when you’d rather be discussing options with your friends and the server could be helping other patrons.This place would be really great to come to when you want to try something extra special or just different if they didn’t make it so annoying to pick from the library shelves. It would also be amazing if they offered premium flights where you could try a small amount of multiple uncommon varieties. If they had this option we would definitely be regulars and our friends would always want to have a drink here when they visit the city.Lastly, aside from not having the full library list we expected there is only a very short cocktail menu and the drinks we had were not inspiring. In the end this is just a hotel bar with incredibly expensive decor.Major disappointment after being super excited 😢

Great place to hang out after work. They have great cocktails, decent bar food, and live music. We had the fried zucchini and arugula prosciutto pizza. Both of them were great.

The bartender was one of the least hospitable people Ive encountered in the hospitality industry in a long time. He said he didnt have a spirit menu to give to us and wed have to just go to the bar and LOOK. I ordered a nice rum, neat (their freezer had broken, so no whiskey rocks available), and what was poured was the smallest ounce of spirit Ive ever received (if I said it was a pinky fingers worth, that would be generous). The offering is good at best and so is the atmosphere but a poor service experience will ruin even the best establishments.

If youre solo and not able to grab a seat at the small bar, best to find another spot. I was killing some time working while my wife was taking a barre class and grabbed a small table in the corner that was unoccupied and was quickly informed that tables for groups and that I would be required to accomodate (or leave? since no bar space was available) if needed. I got the jist and headed up to my room since I was staying at the hotel. I understand its a numbers game but Ill find some place else to patron when Im in town.

I was conflicted as to how to rate this - it didnt match what I was hoping for, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.Firstly - the staff are very warm and welcoming, and along with the enjoyable live music (Tues/Weds only) this is what bumped it up from 3*. The space is appealing and the seating comfortable.The disappointment comes from not having a spirits list. For a place that positions itself as a spirits-focused bar, this is a severe missed opportunity. I went hoping to sample quite a few interesting pours that I had seen on their website, only to find that they didnt have a single one in stock. What they do have is reasonably good - in most situations this would certainly be considered a solid back bar - but against expectations it falls well short. To be a library with neither the promised selection, nor any printed materials is an own goal.Prices are fairly reasonable, especially in light of it being a hotel bar in Manhattan.I wouldnt rush back, but its a decent enough place to stop in for a drink if youre in the area.

Beautiful atmosphere and great concept with couches, books on wall and scotches in cages on the wall, but their menu is boring and limited, the mixed drinks are subpar, old fashioned was done poorly with too much ice, terrible bitters. Needs some new management and revamp of menu.

Really nice bar in the Hyatt Union square. Was a nice experience to see the many different spirits that they had to offer. They also have a cocktails and conversations class every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. They bring a new distillery each time, and they tell you a little bit about their offerings. There is a nice tasting and a spirit and drink of choice for that day. Excellent offerings overall, would not hesitate to come again.

Very disappointed in this establishment. I was on my annual trip to NYC and thought this would be a cool place to take my friend who loves distilled spirits. Google showed it as open at 2:00 when we arrived. The sign out front on a chalkboard said “open”. There were people seated inside. After sitting at the bar a manager informed us it wasn’t open then ushered us to the bar next door calling it “an extension”. When I asked why the Library showed as “open” the manager told me that it means the space is open. What does that even mean? The bar next door was limited. When the bartender went off shift another did not show and a worker was scrambling to figure out how to do a recipe for us. At 4:00 we were able to go to the Library. The bartender was not equipped with the skills to tend a complex bar. Still we spent $200 on two drinks of bourbon. For that I’m mad at myself. Guys pay attention to the basics. On your website you need clarity of your “HOURS OF OPERATION”. Train your bartenders and if one doesn’t show then the manager better be behind the bar.

They made my Manhattan with a lemon peel instead of an orange peel.Bad move.

Very cool space. However if you are looking to sample some unique and special whiskies look elsewhere. No spirit list available. (Dont brother showing them their spirit list found online) They honest dont know what the have..simply pointed to what was behind the bar. We did they one of their listed cocktails. It was average.Unfortunately disappointed. I had this place on my list see on a trip from Seattle.

Re. Visit 2 brings this place down to one star.Absolutely appalling if one has to wait for 12 minutes by the bar and still not be attended to. Seriously, one bartender ar 7pm! I pretty much walked out because life is too short!-------------I visited the library for a bourbon tasting event which was my opening into this bar. The event was decent and eventually I asked for a vodka martini at the bar. The staff were extremely attentive and very helpful. They were professional with taking my order and preferences. Unfortunately, the vodka martini was an absolute disappointment. It was foul and overloaded with the olive juice and thin on the vodka and vermouth. I cannot call it any less than foul, my usual lowest being bad. The bar is a gorgeous venue, perfect for a date or a post work drink with a very fascinating crowd of polished people. Hopefully, they can nail the drinks as well on my next visit and my review and ratings would certainly improve.

Service is a bit slow but otherwise its a good locale

So, yes, this is a hotel bar. But at the same time I feel the need to really recommend it. Its open from pretty early in the evening and offers a surprisingly tasty selection of food as well as some pretty good cocktails. If you go earlier in the evening youll have the place to yourself. Ideal spot for Happy Hour if youre nearby

Place is nice and food is definitely not bad, but bar moment is a weak point.I requested my drink glass to be changed and still didn’t get what I wanted. They charged us for water as well, when we ordered lots of stuff.Generally experience was nice today but service stuff is not.

Nice chill environment with good drinks. Only reason I give 4 stars is because this last time I went they told us they didn’t have the ingredients to make Long Island on a Saturday night. I can’t see why they wouldn’t. Our waitress didn’t seem like she was having a good day though. She pretty much made it seem like she wanted us to leave by making last call for drinks an hour before closing time. I’m sure she did that for everyone else since everyone else in the establishment left early also. But other than that I recommend going. Kind of expensive but the drinks are well made.

A very cozy spot in the busy Union SQ area hidden away in the lobby of the Hyatt hotel. There are shelves interested liquors that the bartenders have to climb to get them. They have a variety of good cocktails to choose from and are usually not crazy busy.

One of my fave NY bars. Reasonably priced by local standards, exceptionally well stocked, with knowledgeable, friendly staff and some fun tasting evenings.

Wonderful place for a drink. The Lazy Lover cocktail is super good and refreshing (lavender, violet) I highly recommend stopping for a drink.
