Intimate, fun, and very much a “know what you want when they come by” place to go. This sounds pretentious, but they move quick, and if you can move with how fast they move, I promise you your experience will be excellent. Every cocktail we had was good, and when we asked for modification, and intelligent convo followed about what was doable and what would work well with what they had. Loved it. Well done, will for sure be back.

Arrived here at opening on a Thursday evening to find the place nearly empty for pre-dinner drinks, and we’re able to get seats at the bar. I enjoyed a few of the spirit-forward options- the No Vacancy and the Commuter, while my wife tried the Sidecar variation. The bartender was also able to make her a gin version of one of the mezcal drinks, which was perfectly suited to her tastes. The cocktails were all well made and balanced, and priced well for what they are. The space is simple with a retro feel, and features vintage furnishings in line with the classic train theme.

***4 1/2 stars***Let me start off by saying that stereotypes are wrong. That said, if I see a bearded guy behind the bar wearing either a plaid shirt or a tie, Im feeling pretty good about my chances of getting a decent cocktail. And this place has both of them in spades. I stopped by here after work on Friday with my Old Man Chum for two cocktails on a very pleasant early fall evening with a slight nip in the air. The Old Man had walked by before and liked the look of the place, and I have to share those sentiments for sure - it feels like an antique store in many ways. We didnt spend a ton of time indoors other than to request outdoor seating and take a bathroom break, but neither of us would have had an issue hanging out in there for the duration of our adventure. The outdoor seating though had prime pooch viewing right by the sidewalk, which you just cant beat regardless of the interior design.I had time in the afternoon to intently study the cocktail menu and ultimately chose The Commuter ($17), featuring gin, cocchi rosa and yellow chartreuse. Orient Express very helpfully provides a taste/palate description of each cocktail next to the ingredient list, which every place should do - its definitely a big part of how I ultimately arrived at my decision. (And as an aside, if someone had provided a description of the negroni I sampled recently and alerted me to the fact that they tasted like leather suitcases, I wouldnt have gone near it and saved myself the trouble. Its basically a public service.)This particular cocktail was described as boozy, floral and herbal, and it was ALL of those things. I ended up having two of these, and a third would have gotten me into a lot of trouble. Im not typically an advocate for a cocktail thats more than $15, but if youre going to spend that kind of money, you should be able to appreciate/distinguish multiple layers of flavors, which is certainly the case here. You can tell that the bartender/mixologist knew what they were doing when they prepped it, and that the bar manager or whomever designed this drink did so with care. Theres a lot of subtlety and attention to detail, and Id definitely advocate thoughtful sips versus casual gulps. The service was fine. Your mileage may vary on this, but when we got there it looked like the bartender inside was literally the only one handling drink orders for all tables including the outdoor area. We were seated quickly and provided with menus at the time, but after 10 minutes or so went by without a visit, I had to go inside to give our orders. Not a huge deal, and it wasnt difficult to hail him down behind the bar to do so, but overall we had to be a bit more proactive than I think youd ideally want to be. Its also a chill cocktail bar in the West Village so theres arguably a hands-off cultural vibe there as well.Definitely would come by again, though I wouldnt recommend doing so on an empty stomach.

Lovely and pleasant little neighborhood bar, with a tastefully done interior reminiscent of a train car, with posters and knick-knacks from along the route of the orient express (although one may quibble with a few, such as Amsterdam there). The decor and ambiance are what drew us in. On a Monday evening it was quiet and peaceful, an oasis from the hectic city and uproariously loud bars that dominate the scene today.Specializing in cocktails, the barkeep sheyan was helpful and unhurried, letting us meander the various options and features like we were buying a car. Reasonable prices for bespoke cocktails, though what had happened to the world that makes me think $15 is reasonable?Food is mostly Turkish and Eastern Mediterranean, and was a fine complement to out cocktails.A gem if you can catch it.

If your not white dont come here, if your having why to much fun on your birthday dont come here. That should be the name of the bar. They told us they couldnt take us because we were too many (group of 6) yet the table they said that was reserved never showed up. (Group of 5) so we just had to wait for our cabs in front of the bar and watch as no one came in for the RESERVED TABLE. To confirm what Im saying look at the names on the reviews going down.

Black bar tender was extremely rude. He was like a child. He called someone a B. And stomped his feet next to people just because someone asked him where the bathroom was. He threw a drink menu and it hit someone sitting at another table near the bar. Guy has serious issues. He needs to get fired before the place goes down the drain. Oh and if you order off menu there is a $15 surcharge. My grandmother can make better cocktails. Very weak. Stronger drinks at Applebees.

Waiter acted like it was some sort of exclusive club to every patron because they were close to capacity. Drinks were mediocre, wait staff didnt fill our water until the check, and it was WAY too loud. Terrible ambiance. Idk how drunk or high these other reviewers are. Not to mention they charged an extra $22 on top of the tip I had already paid. These people should be taken to court. For reference, this was on a weeknight. DO NOT RECOMMEND. And if you choose to go, be sure to check your statements to see what they charge you AFTER the fact. Scummy behavior.

I Sont drink and he made me a drink he’d never made before with pineapple, cucumber, and aqua fava and he named it “Le Jane” (near Jane St. and also my middle name. Definitely pop in for drinks if you’re in New York! (it’s near the High Line) The wood paneling and interior decor to mimic the Orient Express train cars is so charming.

We were at the Orient Express with a group of people to celebrate our Brit friends birthday last weekend. We had high expectations, we really wanted to like the place, but it turned out such a horrible experience. The bartender was rude and very unprofessional. He never wanted to take our orders even though we were sitting right next to the bar in store front. He kept telling us Ill take your orders after Im done for other peoples order. But there were only a few people sat inside, and a few outdoor. He also kept blaming us that we were bigger group than originally made reservation for 6, and complaining. Why he didnt want any customers? Why did he refused to take our orders? We have no idea. We left the place less than 1 hour, after having such a horrible experience there. I waited for 20 min, others waited more than 40 min to get to this point. Only 5 of 12 people got drinks. Never again. DO NOT GO!! THEY NEVER WELCOME YOU!!!

3.25/5Cute little bar with a train cart theme. The train theme isnt overly apparent in my opinion but the atmosphere is nice. Its a dim room that was pretty quiet on an early Sunday night. Seemed like a nice spot to pull out a laptop and get some work done too. Service was friendly and pretty hands off.For drinks I tried the Melopepo (gin, midori, amaro, grapefruit, lime juice) I found the herbal notes of the amaro to be a bit dominant and the midori didnt add too much. Decent but not amazing. The No espresso, but this is a great option if your enjoy coffee. The Mr. Black liquor tastes like a chocolatey cold brew which compliments the rum very well. The aqua faba adds a creamy element to give the drink a cappuccino-like mouth feel.We also tried the mixed appetizer plate. The smoked eggplant salad with the garlicky fresh tarator make for a great pairing especially with the warmed pita. The hummus was alright all around.

Such a nice place in the middle of the West side. It belongs there with its artistic and mostly antique interior style. I ate chocolate croissant and scrambled eggs with Turkish sausage so far, and i must say both were great but the eggs was one of the best Turkish style eggs i had for the last few years in New York. Buket, who is the waitress most of the time i was there is amazing person. She has such a great taste in many things including, suggesting her favorites and finding the perfect music for the cafes atmosphere. Everything in the cafe creates the Orient Express world. Its antique-full decor surprises you with even the smallest details and it does not end in the main room, it expands even to the bathroom and you have the full Orient Express experience, right here in New York.

The owner (yes, the owner) approached my table drunk and asked me if I was crazy for exposing him to COVID and chastised me. He was very clearly drunk and spitting on me while he literally yelled at me for coming to his bar wearing hospital scrubs (which were fresh). The table next to us, bar tender and waiter were embarrassed for him and profusely apologized. We’d been there for 3 hours and probably had a $300 bill - I told him he was a disgrace and asked to pay so we could leave (and never come back) but he was so drunk he told me there was no bill and to just leave. Horrible guy - apparently this happens frequently. At least a free night of drinks at his expense.

My partner is unable to drink, so they ordered a charcuterie board ($30) while I ordered a cocktail ($16). Our waiter waited until the food arrived to inform us that my partner would be charged a cover fee if I shared any of their food, unless they ordered a drink or more food only for themself as well.Had we known about the stipulations at the start, my partner would have ordered a smaller plate or just a mocktail and not shared, rather than be charged an extra $15 for the privilege of sharing a larger food item.I understand cover fees can be important with limited space, but Im looking for better transparency at the start of our meal - especially given we were there early in the night and tables were largely empty on arrival.

Its a cosy dim lit bar with some fantastic drinks. They have a limited menu, largely Mediterranean themed, the falafels were great and we got chicken skewers with a side of avocado salad which was also delicious. It gives a vibe of being a cool romantic speakeasy and the theme of a vintage train carriage really works for it. The drinks are unique and a great balance in flavors. without being to pretentious or steep like speakeasy drinks can be. You can even get a bartenders choice just tell him the kind of drink you want and he works his magic. My only complaint is probably how limited the menu is, there could be a few more appetizers.

Adequate to good, but not great. Ordered the bartenders choice ($14) with the instructions, "I'm usually a Manhattan, Negroni kind of guy," which the server boiled down to - "something bitter with brown liquor".The drink I got was a well balanced and in bounds but basically a take on a bourbon Negroni. Which happened to be on the menu under a different name (I don't remember) for $12. Reductive ordering on bespoke cocktails that results a swap on one ingredient is a bit too paint by the numbers for me. Do the right thing and say, "you should try the X". Also no explanation of what was in it or what it was. So save the $2 and order from the menu.Definitely more of a meat packaging than village crowd, but decent vibe and decor. I appreciate the cocktail Renaissance has to have something for everyone to be lasting. I would go here on again if I was nearby, but wouldn't seek it out.

This inviting, understated cocktail spot has been one of our favorites since we moved to NY a decade ago. They are serious (but not obnoxious) about cocktails. Choosing from their menu is an option, but I prefer to let the barkeep use their judgment and surprise me. The food menu is simple but very well-executed. Until I went there last month, I couldnt tell you the last time I had hummus and pita and thought, wow, this is truly delicious! The staff is very hard-working and professional. This is also our regular watering hole if were trying to snag a dinner table in the neighborhood and the wait-list is several lifetimes long. So, having visited Orient Express occasionally over the years, we decided to reach out to them when we needed a venue for my wifes milestone birthday party. Made a request for a cocktail with egg white foam, the owner suggested a new interesting ingredient - that is chickpea foam. He customized a smokey cocktail for me with mezcal. Loved the creative spins on the drinks! Would return :)

A charming cafe & restaurant named and themed after the famous steam engine. Friendly staff, delicious food, great coffee, and excellent craft cocktails. Hunker down at a cozy table or admire the beautifully crafted bar from a comfy stool. Ill definitely be coming back!

We stumbled across this place a few months back. The staff is extremely professional and attentive. Their cocktail list is excellent. And the bartenders take their tending seriously. But without attitude. The atmosphere is chill and the lite bite food items are great. Even though I want to keep this place to ourselves Id highly recommend checking it out. Thank you Orhun for providing a fantastic experience on New Years Eve!!

Really surprised they removed the espresso machine which was a centerpiece to their bar. No more coffee based cocktails. Still a good bar with good bartenders. Bring back the espresso machine!

Its very nice little bar and the bartender is a nice guy. Drink is not cheap but its quite strong, so I dont complain about it. Its always somewhat quite in the bar whenever I visit there. May be it gets crazy layer in the night, but I like its quite and slow feeling in there, almost feels like time slowed down a bit in there. If you have a date and want to have a glass of whatever while you can still hear the other person saying, this would be a nice place for you

Good cocktails that will run you $12-14. I particularly recommend the Hercules III, its a well balanced smoky drink.Fun decor, the bar does a good job of looking like an old train car with luggage along the walls, a dark wood interior, and warm dim lighting.

It must be a nice place, must have great drinks and yes, great environment.Im reviewing the attitude and the unwelcoming bartender / mixologist we had to experience today May Sunday 22nd, as soon as she saw our kid crossing that door ( she is almost 7 and knows better the rules than any other adult). With her unwelcoming expression she says~~ Looked back and totally ignored usMy dear, we know the rules and we live in the neighborhood. Do not give us this attitude with your super tattoos. Get real. We have been there as well and we also have tattoos :)Welcome everyone and be nice. Thats how you make a difference from the hundred of options we have in the village and this is how you make your best customers. Your wine bar next door knows better. Learn from them.

This off-the-beaten-path cocktail spot is the best kept secret in the W. Village. The turn-of-the-century-themed space beset by old-school suitcases (and various other retro travel-inspired decor) plus the 1930s jazz soundtrack sets the tone for the killer cocktails being mixed up behind the bar. Try the Danube which mixes cucumber soda, vodka, lime juice and fresh mint. Theres also a small menu of snacks like charcuterie and cheese, flatbreads and other Mediterranean fare.
