I’ve been going to Verlaine in the Lower East Side for years, and it’s always been a great experience. The vibe is consistently cool, with dim lighting, vibrant photos, and good music that set the perfect mood whether you’re there for a dinner date or after-work drinks with friends. I’ve even caught a live salsa band here, which was incredible, and celebrated a New Year’s Eve that was unforgettable! The bartenders have always been chill and welcoming, especially Xavier. On my most recent visit, I enjoyed some light bites like the fried chicken dumplings and sake shrimp skewers, both were delicious! And, of course, my partner’s favorite, the Lychee Martinis, never disappoint. Just a heads up, on weekends, it can get full, so plan to arrive a little early for the best experience. Highly recommend Verlaine as part of a fun night out in the area!

Bartender guy with the beard was so rude for no reason!!! My boyfriend wasn’t even having happy hour & the bartender never even acknowledged us. 20% gratuity added despite us never getting service, constantly had to raise our hand for another drink and bartender got mad that we did. We sat on a table first then moved to the bar. The only helpful one was the anime shirt one, he was nice and helpful, he should be bartender or server. Bad service from the servers and that one bartender!!! I do not agree with the 20% tip automatically added!!!!!!

Definitely one of the best bars I’ve been to in LES. Their Happy Hour is a deal, with $8 Lychee Martinis. Service was very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was very relaxed and a nice vibe to start the evening. Will definitely be coming back.

One of my favorite restaurants to go to when I’m in NYC! Love their menu the food is always fresh, served extremely quick and the $8 yummy lychee martini’s are delicious! Can’t go wrong with this place definitely will be coming back whenever I can 😁

Didn’t have any food as this place was the 1st stop, but definitely had three of their Lychee Martinis. Excellent stop for a simple and consistent cocktail, you can’t beat $8. You might have more than two … and that’s okay. You came there for a reason! The music was great, I shamelessly Shazam’d a bit. I think if you want a chill spot to chat and relax, this place is it.

Very vibey, well decorated bar; it’s got a lot of visual appeal and the music curation on the night we went was decent.Unfortunately, the service is very touch and go (even when the space was virtually empty) and the food is even worse. $18 for lukewarm calamari with no crisp or crunch is disrespectful. Luckily, the happy hour is strong and worth going for. The lychee martini was almost too strong, but for $8, how can one complain? The red sangria was a more tasteful option and just as great a deal.I would come back for the bar alone, but definitely not for the food. Also, 20% gratuity was automatically included in our tip; something I wish our server would’ve specified (vs being at the bottom of our receipt) — we ended up tipping more than most would’ve thought appropriate, especially for the level of service.Overall, decent place — definitely a bit overpriced. I wish the warmth of the staff and the quality of the food would’ve reflected the potential of the visually gorgeous space.

This place is truly a vibe! The service is great . Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Leech martini is so delicious and the food is very flavorful. My favorite from the menu would be the short rib sliders. I also love the shrimp skewers!

Wow! Amazing! I went there last night to celebrate my friends birthday and had such a great time! Beautiful decor, awesome music and very friendly staff! Most importantly, phenomenal food and drinks. The best Asian fusion food, the sauce and flavor was so tasty and fresh. I had the honey chicken wings and the best chicken and shrimp lo mein Ive ever had! The drinks were great too, the lychee martini and red sangria. Highly recommend! I need to come back.

A great pregame spot and good for large groups or small get togethers!! They’re known for their $8 HH lychee martinis even on the weekend until 8pm? It’s very easy to have 3-5!!The apps are alright. The fries were good to share and the wings were crispy and well sauced.

Ambiance is so on chill you become comfortable as soon as you sit down. I heard that sometimes there can be a wait to get in but luckily on this day there was no wait.The appetizers/small plates were not only enough for 6 people to order varieties and share, but they were DELICIOUS!As far a drinks, Lychee martini me please!!! So good! Those martinis will definitely do the trick so throw them back slowly.

I came in on Saturday Aug 21st for the first time and man this place is sexy! 😃 The Lychee was amazing!!! Lawrd! Staff were awesome especially the bartenders. This is a veryyy cool spot if you’re on a date! I loved it and I highly recommend it!

Every Tuesday to Sunday from 5 to 10 PM, they offer their happy hour deal, which includes lychee martinis, rosé sangrias, and red sangrias for $8. Their food is tasty and affordable, and the atmosphere is lively but not loud, making it a great spot for catching up or getting to know someone.

Verlaine is my FAVORITE bar in NYC. Ive been coming here for 10 years. We love to visit here for the late happy hour. The food is also very good. LOVE this place. P.s. grab a crepe around the corner after youre done at verlaine:p

Such a cool spot, great music and atmosphere. I believe it’s a black owned business which is awesome! The lychee aperol spritz was amazing and definitely would come back whenever I’m in the area. Good music and overall a good vibe. Definitely recommend for drinks

I stumbled upon this place and I loved it! The lychee martinis were incredible & you can’t beat their happy hour special ($8 till 10pm!) We shared the calamari which was great! I loved the side sauce it came with. Very busy though so you should probably make a reservation but I walked in and was seated pretty quickly.

$8 lychee martinis until 10pm is such a vibe. there was no wait on a wednesday night. it was loud when we first got there around 9 and a bit hard to hear across the table, but by like 9:30 it was a good level of noise

I have whole time there for my birthday. The drinks are cheap and still very good. The customer service is okay no complaints. If you’re looking for a chill night after work or for a special occasion this is a good spot to go!

I had a great time here. I had only one drink which was a titos and soda, but my friends had numerous drinks that they enjoyed. The waitress was attentive and had a pleasant demeanor. The food that we shared was tasty as well and came out in a timely manner. I would love to visit again for dinner or to have drinks. Hopefully soon.

We stepped into this place last Friday and didn’t want to leave! The environment, the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere are all simply amazing. Saeeb (sp?) was very gracious to us all night long. Very personable and professional! We will definitely be back!

5 stars for the Rimbaud. 4 stars for the lychee martinis (which we missed happy hour by 10 minutes for, so they were $14!). 3 stars for the Horatio. 5 stars for the service despite the atmosphere. 0 stars for the abysmally loud and really, really awful techno atmosphere.It really is a shame because the decor makes you feel so chill, and then there’s just oonza oonza blaring so loud you have to scream in the ear of the person next to you.Would not recommend without earplugs and a desire to lose your voice.

This place is absolutely great. The chicken dumplings and the chicken tacos were mouth-wateringly delicious.In addition, the staff were extraordinarily attentive. The music was also really great and had a lot of great 2000s throwbacks. 100% would come back here when I come back to New York.

The ultimate happy hour which goes until 10pm! I could drink those lychee martinis all day. Be careful because they taste refreshing and sweet but there’s still a good amount of vodka in them. Definitely recommend. It’s my go to spot with coworkers after work but it’s also a cute date place. I also recommend the shrimp skewers but honestly all the food I’ve gotten from there has been tasty.

Their lychee martini is what theyre most known for (a must have), so good and affordable! How do they do it?! Their staff is probably the friendliest people in NYC. The crowd there is also very friendly and its so easy to talk to people. Such a chill and friendly atmosphere. Everyone is so warm to each other, cant imagine a more friendly bar in town.

Only pet peeve: Appears Dance school pro Dancers dominate not only small dance floor, but block view from restaurant of live band, dont drink(spend $), and stand in the way. Place needs to charge a small “cover”. All else excellent. 👍🏼💃🏼🕺🏼

Cute spot really good appetizers and the best lychee martinis. I highly recommended it. In general My only complaint was our server. She made us feel unwelcome. she brought us our check without us asking for it and rushed us out way to persistent. Idk maybe we didnt order enough drinks perhaps. We had 3 appetizers and 6 martinis. We were there less than an hour place was even jam packed.

We hosted a birthday here and reserved one of the booths up front beforehand. The food is decent, and the drinks are good too. The happy hour is super popular for a reason but regular menu prices are on the pricey side. The standout for us was the service we received. Lauren took amazing care of our party. She was the right balance of involved so the service never came off inattentive or invasive. The staff here went above and beyond for us, doing way more than was expected. We’ll definitely be back.

We came here for dinner and drinks on a sunday night and didnt know it was like a salsa dancing night? with $8 lychee martini deals? The place started filling up around us around 8, and the band started playing and people started dancing! The lychee martinis were great but the food was okay. The chicken satay skewers couldve been moister and the lo mein was good enough. The ambiance is cozy and cute - maybe too cozy because the tables are packed incredibly close together. In summary, the food was okay but the vibes and drinks were great.

Love this place. They have happy hour almost all the time from 5 - 10 pm, daily. My favorite drink off the happy hour menu is definitely the lychee martinis. They are delicious, have the right amount of alcohol, and the actual lychee in the moment is a nice addition. Ive yet to try the food here, but judging from what Ive seen it looks delicious.

TERRIBLE SERVICE. EXTREMELY RUDE. I had to leave. Upon being carded (mind you, our who group was all 25 + yrs old), the dude scanning my friends card accused her for having a fake because she had a California ID. She showed proof with her her old license, her graduate school ID and he was being so nasty to all of us, not giving her ID back and all. Obviously if we weren’t of age, why would we go in considering there’s a sign that says “SCANNING ID” up front & on a Wednesday night…I never write bad reviews but this was ridiculous.

Loved the lychee martinis but did not have the best service experience. We only wanted drinks so we started at the bar, it started getting packed so I tried putting our name down for a table if it was available. The host was all over the place and told me it would be a 30 minute wait, I told him nicely hmm let me talk to my party to see if that’s ok. I went back to him immediately after and said hey I actually would like to put my name down, and then he gets short and rude with me and says “you need to wait! It’s going to be an hour minimum!” I am automatically turned off since that’s not what he originally told me and he was giving me attitude for no reason. I said okay… do you want my name or number for the table? And he told me no he will just come and find me, fine. They sat us within 10 minutes (a plus for sure, but why tell me an hour and almost deter me from giving you business?)When we sat down, we still had our original martinis from the bar so we were working on that. The waiter came and asked us what we wanted and we said we wanted a second round after we finished our drinks. He said we needed to order food since we sat at a table. I ordered us some fries to snack on, and he proceeded to tell me we needed to order more. We were not told this before sitting so that’s a bummer AND half the tables were eating a bowl of edamame or some tortilla chips and THATS IT. Many tables only had drinks! We observed that before sitting so it was a bit unexpected. I’m fine with that if it is a rule but it would be nice to make it known to your customers and also be consistent. We felt singled out and a bit unwelcome. He then told us if we wanted to drink we have to stand at the bar, that tables were for dinner service only. Totally fine with that rule but again, it didn’t seem enforced at all so it was just a turn off all around. We didn’t even end up getting a second round and left. Maybe be more clear next time before seating us.

Five stars for their happy hour. The $4 Lychee Martinis that are absolutely delicious. I met a friend to catch up at the bar and it was the perfect place to do so. We went on a Monday- so it wasnt too crowded, the bartender was great, and the atmosphere was perfect. She got the Sangria which was really nice, too. Price for happy hour drinks is $5 if not a Sunday or Monday, which is still a great deal for the quality (definitely try the Lychee Martini- its the best).

This is a great place for Happy Hour! The drink deals are nice, and the light is kind of low but it is lively. It kind of felt like our waitress was rushing us out, but other than that it was fun!

Not too many places in NYC with happy hour from 5pm to 10 pm. Drinks are great and the appetizers are delicious. Servers do their best but when it gets crowded it may take a while for them to get back to you.

I had one of the worst experiences at this bar last night. I went for happy hour and the bartender charged me double, he didnt want to take responsibility until a group of people who were near me talked to them because they realized the injustice. After that unpleasant moment they finally sold me and my group beers knowing that they had minutes left to close and then they didnt let us drink them. Terrible service. Nice decor and good atmosphere. Im sorry that the service is so bad and irresponsible!

When we mentioned how surprisingly weak the drinks were (like juice with no alcohol) we were treated to the waiter providing an explanation stating the drinks were premixed and that adding the ice and juice waters down the drink! Perhaps the overpouring and pride in strong cocktails doesnt extend to happy hour specials. As a lightweight drinker I expect to at least taste the presence of alcohol in a drink.

Lychee martinis is what you get here for happy hour. They are delicious and they are not watered down. I usually come here for happy hour and at 6 dollars a Martini, it is not a bad deal at all in NYC. I would definitely come back for happy hour. I have not tried the food yet but will update once I have.

We were looking for a place to go salsa dancing on a Sunday night, so we went to check out this place.There was a live salsa band and they were fantastic, but when we arrived, no one was dancing! Eventually, it became more crowded but the dance floor is very small, so once a handful of couples begins dancing, there’s not much more room for anyone else.I’ll admit, we were looking for a salsa club that had a larger dance floor and where everyone danced with everyone - this club seemed like people more came as couples and danced with each other.Although the evening didn’t turn out completely as expected, I really enjoyed watching the dancers and listening to the excellent band.

I only gone here once and I only went here specifically to drink before dinner. My friends had a table and they ordered food. I had a lychee martini and had it all night because I honestly could not taste the alcohol. This place is great if youre looking to just eat, chat, and drink with friends. The space is small and kind of like a hallway style restaurant, so beware of sitting/standing close to someone you dont know. The setting was low lit and can be romantic if it wasnt so noisy.

The front of house host was extremely rude to us and even called us names as well… There are tons of bars nearby with better service…

Verlaine’s been a NYC staple for me for years now. Went on Saturday for a friend’s birthday and was disappointed in the service received by the gentleman in the front. I believe he was a host and server. I won’t bash the bar on here but homie needs to be taught some hospitality manners because his attitude was not it. I observed other waiters and waitresses be very professional to the guests. Could not say the same for him.

They are *fast* here-- the servers are always walking around glancing at tables. The lychee martinis are strong and they come out quickly (probably because theyre being ordered constantly). The lounge setting makes it relatively easy to talk, and the candles on the tables give the room a glow. Would be a good spot to have a few drinks after a dinner date.Come here during happy hour for $5 martinis before midnight, and on Sunday & Monday theyre $4.

The best restaurant I’ve been to so far in the city. I always had a bad experience in the city. This place. Super fast service . Food is amazing. They clean your table every five minutes. Many people but never overcrowded. They have happy hour drinks at late hours on weekends. Drinks tasted so good. I will give this place a 5 stars any day!

Great atmosphere!

The lychee drinks aren’t for everyone but they are cheap and get you buzzed. The hostess was not nice with putting different tabs for us. It was a table of 10-12 people who just wanted different tabs. She said she would do it in the end. When we asked, she just got one check which was a super huge amount for one to pay or split. It was eventually unevenly divided. That was the only nasty part about this night. A tip still had to be left with the poor service. The music and drinks are cheap and worth it.

Fun, popular, friendly place that specializes in Lychee Martinis. Ive lived in Southeast Asia and tried many lychee martinis there. These are the best ever! And, they are at happy hour prices until 10 p.m.! (But dont tell too many people because they get super crowded already!)

I usually come here during happy hour (5pm-10pm) to get the lychee martini. They usually make them strong so its really the best bang for your buck. However, its so crowded that its hard to hang out by the bar or even order a drink. You eventually just order 2 at a time so you dont have to keep trying to find a bartender. I try to drink as many as possible and go to another bar. The Asian food here is mediocre so dont bother ordering any food.

Food is great! Especially the lo mein. Happy hour i believe is everyday 5-9, the Lychee Martinis are the best. Seating can be annoying but other than that, I definitely would recommend.

I tried this place on Tuesday, Yes 3 - Lychee Martinis... They are delicious... We sat at the bar, service was great, gentleman with dark hair very nice and welcoming... We ordered the salmon for our quick bite everything was great 🙌

Amazing happy hour- treat yourself to a lychee martini...or two! Gets kind of crowded near the end of happy hour. You might have to stand at the bar but it is so worth it!

I wish this place felt less crowded. I love the lighting in this place and has a nice relaxed feel to it but if you arent seated at a table then you are standing in a circulation path with a bar on one side and hordes of people on the other. I have to say that this setup doesnt allow me to enjoy more than two drinks here before feeling inclined to take the circulation path out the door. If you have never had a martini or lychee and dont like martinis because of the straightforward alcohol taste then you will probably enjoy the lychee martini, or as I call it the adult juice box.

From the moment I walked up to this place there was a positive energy going. The bouncer was friendly and chatty, making jokes with passersby and helping to give people directions. He had such a good vibe about him that there was already a positive energy created before you even walk into the space. (I want to note that I dont think Ive ever reviewed how the bouncer made me *feel* so I just want to acknowledge that this is how powerful friendliness can feel.)

Reasonably priced happy hour drinks were available. The desert we had with caramel bourbon sauce was exceptional. Each happy hour drink came with a lychee berry inside the glass. The ambiance was warm and inviting. The staff was friendly and prompt. It’s great for all sizes of groups. Hope this helps!

1st time leaving a review although Ive been coming here since 2012. The Lychee martinis are my favs. Tonight, the bartender with the locs was playing me so close after I asked and was told they only accept 🍏 pay when I asked if I could pay with my android phone. That just sends ridiculous to me because the money comes from my account not my iPhone. I to tell him to fall back and lucky the lady who offered me a seat at the bar was more than happy to cover my tab in cash while I venmoed her. Ion like the new crew. One bartender was cool. He behaved like that guy in Seinfeld during the Puerto Rican day parade. I wasnt aware of it.

Lychee martinis. There, thats out of the way. This place is great. A little crowded with the after work crowd. But the prices are reasonable and drinks are delicious. Although its not really a club, I suppose its worth noting that women greatly outnumber the men in this bar.

Vibe can be really great and definitely worth going for the Happy Hour. The fries were delicious (only food we ordered) and the server was very warm and attentive

I’ve been here three times but this past Tuesday was the first time I’ve actually eaten at Verlaine.My two friends and I shared one order of each of these: ginger chicken wings (so crispy, very good, we said we’d come back and get multiple orders of them next time), coconut curry with veggies (pretty good), veggie dumplings (you can probably skip), and chicken tacos (nothing special).Vibes still great and definitely packed. We arrived at 7 pm without a reservation and were immediately seated - but it filled up quickly after!

We LOVED this place! The atmosphere is so cozy and intimate, prices are really affordable, and food and drinks are perfect. The staff is very competent, nice and really caring. We will be back here for sure!

Its such a small space and the Asian waitress (the one that looks like Chao from MadTV) is so rude. She is more than aware that it is a small space - no need for rudeness especially if were just hanging out and having some drinks. Ugh she ruined my experience and gave me an attitude. We refused to give them any more $ and left after our last drink. The bartender was a sweet heart tough and SO was the bouncer.. Great atmosphere but she was rude.

I hear that the lychee martinis are amazing! The service is good, loved the vibe if youre into that. Make sure to make a reservation if you are with a party of 4 or more, otherwise... Its good.

It was a rundown bar, with shady lighting and lousy food. The manager looked like a plumber just getting off work....he was rude and condescending and borderline confrontational with guests.Your better off buying a beer in a deli and drinking it in the first gutter you find----the gutter is classier!

I came here on a date for a nightcap. We got a seat right away. The place has very cool vibes, with a Vietnam/liechi theme and decor lining the walls. They have a creative cocktail menu and I got their liechi martini. This drink was quite good, so Id come back here.

$8 lychee martinis until 10pm? Sign me up! Good music, good crowd, great service. Dont expect to be able to sit if you are just going for walk-in drinks, but you will still have a great time while standing!

Lichee cocktail was great and so was every food we ordered. The lights were dimmed at some point and it got really dark for a restaurant. People around started talking so loud it got a bit awkward.

I came on a Sunday which happened to be “Salsa Night”. I had the most fun. Enjoyed the live band and danced the whole night. The lychee Martini is delicious! Definitely returning!

Its really bro-y and young crowd (its by NYU) but happy hour everyday till 8pm for some really cheap drinks. The food is tapas style, and meh, mostly overcooked

Great owner in Gary, amazing staff and service...but has also stayed true over 8 years of drinking well in the city : verlaines atmosphere is unbeatable for theater dark steamy romantic OR casual vibe. Any night, verlaines is a good bet, and affordable.

If you have a reservation there is no wait. We had a reservation for 9 and just walked in and got sat right away. Be wary of people who are standing behind you waiting for a table cus they will be entitled and rude. A friend of mine kept getting elbowed in the head by two girls who were standing behind our table and were trying to sit with us and put their belongings at our table. Seating area is busy since it’s small but overall service was good and drinks as well. (They only take reservations for 6+ and will give you an amount you have to spend for the night.)

Swanky place, fairly small due to the tables for food (makes for a crowded bar area). The bartenders here make some interesting cocktails and the scene is worth checking out if youre in the area.

Really great happy hour deal. Good drinks (if you like lychee). Relatively inexpensive and the food was okay. Only negative is that it was very loud. Would not suggest for a date. Otherwise, I will definitely be going back.

This review is based on drinks only, as I did not order food. A friend and I came here on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. Very crowded, very loud (its hard to be hard over the music), but the lighting is gorgeous and cocktails were great. Our server was kind and attentive. We originally came because of the namesake (Verlaine) and were similarly tickled by the literary-inspired cocktail menu (Horatio, Rimbaud, Fleurs du mal). I would come back again, although I wish the music were a bit quieter.

We had a fabulous time at Verlaine’s enjoying the Lychee Martinis. We had the wings, deliciously crispy and tasty. The dumplings were flavorful and made just right. Great times!

I will always remember this place for its signature drink, the Hanoi Lychee Martini, its delicious and its only $6 during happy hour. I also had the vegetarian dumplings which were simply amazing. The is a great vide in this place, very friendly service and great selection of drinks and food, a must visit if in the area.

My friends and I had a bad experience going here yesterday. I reserved 3 weeks in advance with no mention of a fee. Long story short, they wanted us to pay between $300 - $700 to reserve a spot + food. If I knew, I would’ve RSVP another place. Then, when you add the customer service… Sucks really bad here. Never coming here again!

The place is known for the Lychee Martini....and omgThat martini is everything.The Bartender is 100% amazing...out of this world attention.The food is good, the glassed Salmon is really good. The ambience is great,you can talk but yet you can hear the music. The place is cozy, decoration is simple, lychee trees painted on the walls very appropriate given that its the most sold cocktail. The lights are dimmed but its clear enough to see the menu amd your companions, its great for a date or a talk with friends. Moderate in price. Near subway perfect.

The best lounge in the Lower East Side. Cliff, Oscar, Xavier, Said, and all the rest of the staff are amazing, warm, and fun. You can meet new friends in Verlaine because all the people that comes there is nice, and the regulars are even better. Come on Sundays to have a great experience with live salsa music, and then you will meet Gary, another jewel from the venue. Verlaines signature lychee martinis are winners!
