My daughter, friend, and I were looking for a nice cafe to sit down in for a little respite after walking a lot. The two coffee drinks were quite good, although the counter service was somewhat unfriendly. It was a pleasant enough place to sit for a few minutes, although a little cramped. The most remarkable thing was the incredibly diminutive bathroom that reminded me of the Thompson/Houston Street apt my sister and her then husband lived in during the late 1970s. The bathroom there was so tiny, your knees hit the radiator and the shower was in the kitchen! But I digress... this is a pretty good cafe, but nothing to write home about.

Cozy little café; indoor and outdoor seating is great. I had a lemon-glazed pastry and a jam sandwich cookie with a café au lait. All of these were very good. Friendliness of the staff topped great service, so highly recommended. This is a very small café, yet great variety of pastries. The Supreme, a light, chocolatey dessert, almost like mousse was what I tried; it was topped with dark chocolate, nuts and powdered sugar. I shared it -- wont do that again! They also sell sandwiches to go. There were eight people in line in front of me and it took only 60 seconds to get my order. Food was great, left me speechless.

I recently started to go here fairly often because I got a job nearby. The food is good and the prices aren’t bad. I usually get a couple mini sandwiches and a coffee. The coffee is also good here. It’s usually some women behind the counter and they are all very sweet! I’m not a big tuna salad fan but the tiny tuna on brioche is solid for a few bucks. I also like the Italian sandwiches on little baguettes and their spinach pastry thing, I forget the name. There’s maybe 5 tables inside with one side a bench and a seat for each on the other, as well as a small counter with stools. There are a couple outside seats too under an awning but it’s been too cold when I’m there lately. Overall, definitely a RELIABLE place and for me that is very important. Good food, good service, and reasonable prices, especially for the area. Will be back, again and again I’m sure:)

I was in upper east side area today and I had coffee break in this place. I got simple italian sandwiche with sun dried tomato and mozzarella cheese unfortunately I realize later it wasn’t fresh at all bread was like stone and after I got one bite taste wasn’t satisfying at all. My Oat milk coffee was OK. Honestly Location was pretty good but I can’t say the same thing about management. I don’t think bakery goods are not really so fresh here. If I was living in that hood probably would skip this place and find better one close by UES. At the end it was just another disappointing experience.

They need to work on the quality of the bakery products since they operate under the title bakery and pastry. Costco has fresher and better buttery croissants. Coffee was good. Although everyone was nice and place was very clean.

Review №21

Some of the baked goods do look dry and old (as some reviews had mentioned), but their coffee is legit, and their desserts are HUGE. My colleagues and people walked by me all “wow”ed at my Napoleon. lol. It’s only 2 street up from Hunter College, and as someone who worked in this neighborhood for more than 5 years, I say it is one of the best bakery nearby for lunch, coffee and snacks.

Review №22

I appreciate that this place is convenient and quick, but every sandwich I’ve ever had here is so mediocre, it must be declared. Mediocre sandwiches! slightly more expensive than bodega sandwiches, and no wifi. Some charm, but not enough charm to warrant wifilessness… Im sure this place is some sort of reliable UES institution, I’m not from this neighborhood, i dont want to attack it, but it seems fair to let you know before you plan a lunch meeting here that the sandwiches can only be described as “meh” with a shrug. The coffee is good though! And the pastries are good, esp the tiny rugalah, and the layout is convenient and pleasant for eating alone or having a little meeting.TLDR: uninspired bad sandwiches & no wifi, good coffee and good pastries, pleasant casual vibe, nice old tile floors

Horrible. Bought Two soups- not even warm, no less hot. Ordered chicken soup and lentil soup. Got two lentils. Had to ask cashier to re-heat soup, not one reheat, but two reheats to get the soups warm. Open the soup cups, find they are less than two-thirds full. With the soup costing over $8/cup, thats just wrong! Ask for soups to be filled, got a growl + eye roll. Order a small greek spinach pie. Half microwaved, which hardens the filo dough. Half freezing cold + soggy. Yuck, for ... $6!! Kidding me. $26 for junk. Snarky help staff. Last insult, a person had literally pee-ed all over the bathroom floor, toilet lid, bowl. Gross + smelly. There are way better cafes in this area. Skip this one.

Tried to stop here for a raisin pecan loaf at 3 pm. Waited a few moments while 2 other customers were finished with and left. Noticed 2 young women hugging behind the counter, one of which had just finished with a customer in front of me. A young man told someone where the napkins were after finishing with the other. One of the women went to help a customer toward the back of the store, who had come in as all this was happening, while the man decided to adjust a sign in the muffins and looked right past me. There was no one else there. So I decided it wasnt meant to be and left. Obviously these 3 were so self absorbed that they didnt even realize I hadnt been helped.

I tried the Supreme which was light and chocolatey :-) the dessert was light like a mousse with a nice coat of dark chocolate and nuts with a dusting of powdered sugar. Absolute thieves - a large mediocre at best ice coffee for $6.55?!? When I was shocked at the price (which wasn’t clear on the menu by the way) I got bullied into buying it after I asked to forgo my order. What a joke of a business. A dunkin ice coffee would have been way better.

An
Review №57

The food is normal, the location is nice because of the outside chairs, but unfortunately there is constant behaviour of charging you the wrong things intentionally. In the past I had to make the cashier review the order because the total was not right, and it was because they added another item to the order and didnt even allowed us enough time to check it in the screen... same thing happened to a friend. In terms of coffee, I always ask for a cortado, and even when the guy that made the coffee told her that they charge it as a macchiato, when the cashier sees that the macchiato is cheaper than a latte, she erased macchiato and charged me as a latte... There is a tendency of dishonesty when charging customers that has become quite common.

It was never a pretty place but after so many years without maintenance, the chairs look dirty, people leave and they dont clean the tables, the pillows are disgusting, the floor looks filthy... I guess that a place that has been for so many years consistently in such an expensive area, a business that charge so much for their food, caninvest some money, at least to honor a decent place for its clients. Im not returning or recommending it anymore.

Cheapo and paranoid ownership that requires strict 5 dollar credit card minimum and withholds coffee cup sleeves and serves days old sandwiches and average, often lukewarm, coffee. Every time I order something there seems to be a restriction; for example, they cannot serve hot drinks in mugs (only in to-go cups) because theyre afraid someone might turn around and spill the coffee on a child. (This was the actual explanation I was given) Would prefer a different coffee shop in this neighborhood with better ownership.
