Can’t beat the price, $2.50 for most of the items minus some breakfast sandwiches. You need to download the app and order from there for the $2.50 deal, otherwise its like a dollar more to order at the counter. The app can use some updates since you need to manually enter card info and add money vs. just using ApplePay. Too longer to set up than get the order. Will come back, the food/drinks were great overall.Cold Brew: 3/5Cortado: 5/5Chocolate Croissant: 2/5Everything Cream Cheese Croissant: 5/5Egg and vegetarian sausage on a whole grain artisan roll: 5/5
It was my first time at Matto. I had some questions before placing my order (about customizations, flavor shots, sugar content) and the person there was very polite and helpful (9/29 around 3:40pm). Also, the Espresso over ice that she made (with soy milk, 2 extra shots espresso, and 1 French vanilla flavor shot) came out better than the equivalent (and more expensive) version I normally get from Sbux. 10/10, def recommend!
Im putting a review here only to refer to the kindness of the barista who gave me the latte despite not having enough change for it. Kudos to her kindness :)Also the place has a cheap coffee. 3.70 for latte. No seating area inside the shop
Small cafe where everything is only $2.50! Don’t expect top quality coffee, but solid $2.50 coffee. They have a great app modeled after the Starbucks app where you get a discount for placing an order online. Ordered a chai and oat latte and enjoyed them both!
They make delicious, current, in step with the times, complex beverages AND manage to stay affordable. Matto is living proof that it is possible to serve New Yorkers these beverages and not gyp them off. So for that Matto gets a resounding 5 stars. The banana date latte is really delicious. It’s all the flavors and textures we love mixed into a beverage and with a lovely subtle hint of coffee. It’s really nice. What I like to do in the summer is order my banana date latte here and then go sit on the terrace across the street @ Plantshed 😊😊🧋🌱
I picked up an iced mocha and a large chocolate chip cookie this morning. They had promptly put together my order and I was happy about that. The cookie was sweet and generously packed. The coffee on the other hand had kind of an odd taste that I didnt care for.
Cute and cheap little spot. Free two lattes on the first order from the app ( must enter credit card info for it).
I ordered a latte and they didnt even make the espresso fresh. It came out in 30 seconds and I saw no espresso maker in sight. I think they batch made espresso ahead of time, it was horrible.
I recently stopped by this spot to indulge in a piece of pumpkin cheesecake, and it was a delightful experience. The pastry prices are already great, and the additional dollar savings when ordering in advance on the app is a nice touch. The pumpkin cheesecake exceeded expectations in taste, showcasing a perfect blend of flavors. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, adding to the positive ambiance. While its a small establishment, its an ideal spot for enjoying a coffee paired with a pastry, especially if youre taking a stroll down Central Park.
So I tried really hard to install the app but it proved very difficult. The staff could have helped with that as I was the only guy in the shop. Anyway the banana and date latte was amazing. Definitely want to try more of their menu. 4.36 for such a fantastic drink was well worth it.
3 stars for acceptable given the price. I would recommend for certain items. If you have a discerning taste for good espresso drinks, then spend the extra money elsewhere.I love a good unsweetened espresso, but I found Matto’s taste burnt. My cappuccino was extremely hot, so the water temperature could’ve been the reason for the overly bitter taste. Another possible reason is just a lower bean grade.I have gotten an iced sweetened coffee drink and I thought it was pretty good. Sweet drinks have the sugar to hide the burnt taste of the beans.Lastly, they have decent and affordable noshes.
This is a quick coffee takeout chain spread across the city, offering everything under $5, which is rare in New York. The quality of their coffee/espresso was better when they first opened last year, but it seems to have declined since. Fortunately, the food still tastes great. I have tried almost everything on their menu and love the banana bread the most. Some locations offer a seat or two, but the focus is on fast service rather than dine-in. I appreciate them for making barista-made coffee and tasty food options accessible to New Yorkers, and I hope they continue to grow their business and expand the menu.
I wish I took a picture of how blackened the avocado in the avocado and egg sandwich looked, but I tried to explain to them that the sandwich had a bad smell. I understand Avocado might smell after warming the sandwich up, but the croissant was stale and smelly avocado made the taste worst. Despite me explaining this, they tried to explain to me that I was wrong and that is just how the sandwich would be. I wish I was heard and not felt like I was crazy for bringing it up out of concern that maybe we should prevent others from eating it.
Maybe the espresso is the thing to get here, but the trip coffee is terrible.
Everything in the store is $2. Everything, and all sizes. I get a large black eye every time for $2. The espresso is ground fresh for every pull. This is my go to every morning. Not to say anything bad about Starbucks or Joe down the block, but why would I pay $4.50 for a drink thats $2?
Like everyone else said you just can’t beat the $2.50 price on the app (& $3.50 in person) for coffee in the city. Chai and brookie was pretty damn good!!
One of the best coffee shops in the neighborhood. I do miss the days of everything for $2.00, but $2.50 isn’t too bad.- The coffee is consistent.- The app makes ordering easier.- the croissants and pistachio muffins are great too.- In the winter, the Italian hot chocolate is the best around.
I really don’t understand how anybody could rate this place past 1 star. I went in for a casual afternoon coffee, took one sip of my cappuccino and tossed it in the nearest bin. The coffee tasted like the cheapest store shelf coffee, bitter and simply unpalatable. For a coffee-specific venue, I have nothing else to really base my review on other than the horrible coffee. Walk a few streets up or down and find yourself better options.
Low quality coffee and it’s gotten worse lately. Their stated price only applies if you order via the app, so it’s actually pretty deceptively priced.
This place is kind of easy to miss unless you’re walking on Columbus ave. I’m a fan of their lattes but I’ve had their coffee and it was fresh and had some nice caffeine going on. They offer breakfast sandwiches, muffins and some of them are vegan. There’s always some music playing and the playlist is nice. They keep some samples as bait on the counter also. The staff is attractive, attentive and knowledgeable baristas. Being awesome like this comes with a price: Everything is 2 dollars. Everything. For the Upper West Side it’s the breakfast place to be if you’re on a budget like me but don’t want to sacrifice quality. #uws #upperwestside #columbusave #sankofatafari #kingofcoffeenyc #coffeenyc #coffee #veganstuff
Everything here costs $2.50 ($2.00 if you use the app to order) which is a super good deal if you want a quick bite or some coffee while in the area. Most of the food items remind of what you would get at Starbucks and have a similar taste. The location is super small inside but they have a small table outside if you want to sit and eat.
I stopped here quickly for an Cold Brew Iced Coffee, which was highly refreshing and tasted great. A little hole in the wall shop worthy of neighborhood support!
Dirty interior. I’m sure it doesn’t happen all the time but there was a fly landing on the food and opened milk cartons. Latte tasted like water and was made from a coffee machine you’d see in your office. Hot chocolate was rich and tasty, though.
Excellent coffee and pastries, any size for $2! You cannot beat it. Forget the starbucks and cafes nearby, this is a must for people looking for a quick pick me up on the go!
Matto, where everything is $2.50! I was skeptical at first, but after that first sip of coffee and a bite of the muffin, I was hooked!!! Best deal in the city. Good fresh coffee, latte and cappuccino. No extra charge for flavor shots or almond milk. Service is excellent at this location. Order on the app and it will be ready for pickup when you walk in. Multiple locations around the city and all are just as good as this one.
Not worth going if you arent ordering off the app. Service is very slow.
Very good coffee ☕️ nice selection of food. No seating but right in front of bus stop. And not overpriced
Great value for a coffee. Every drink is just under $3 for a cup and its not bad. Probably give just the coffee a 3.5 - 4.
Nice little coffee spot.
Everything is 2.00 and honestly the best 2.00 Iced Coffee. My fav is the Iced Caramel Latte, but I ask for mines to be made with half and half, its so dreamy... enjoy
They are all over the place. They forgot to label some of the drinks, and forgot to call me when my drink was here, so the five groups after me got their drinks first. They couldn’t even remember whether the mysterious drink on the counter was my order, and then they ran out of coffee beans, and had to grab more in the back.
A great place to have a morning coffee!
Really good genuine Italian style coffee. Great prices (everything is 2 USD). My favorite coffee shop chain.
Very tasty and everything is $2 can’t go wrong!
The drinks are so much more enjoyable to drink compared to Starbucks. Great quality coffee. The Chai Latte is supper delicious. Not many breakfast options. Coffee experience A+
Great stop for good quality baked goods and beverages. Cashiers here are very efficient & friendly. Neighborly vibe, despite being a chain.
Decent cup of coffee at a fair price. Staff can be dreadful leading to long waits. Pastries are subpar.
Cheaper than other coffee shops in the area, and always reliable! Only one table of seating outside.
Great coffee and an amazing price. Good bites too - both savory and sweet.
The two girls are nice. The place is small but its great everything $2.00! Friendly, fast attentive service.
Good coffee, fast service, and an absolutely unbeatable price. A new favorite spot!
Great coffee shop. best price in NY 🤩 super delicious coffee and pastries.Customer service very fast and nice 😍
Great food, always $2, and coffee is very high quality!
Great place to get coffee and snacks and it is just $2 for each item!
Great espresso drinks, amazing pastries & everything is $2.00.
What a coffee shop should be. Clean unpretentious, friendly, and not harassing you for unearned tips.
One of the best coffees, and its 2 $, no kidding.
Everything is $2.50 via the app making it the cheapest and great for the price coffee/snack place in the city
Terrible latte. There was no coffee in it. Just milk
Delicious coffee, good prices. Will come again!
Your local coffee shop with everything you need to go with your coffee. Nothing complicated. Just coffee.
Better price and good staff
Nice service, so-so coffee, poor food. Youre better off going to Joe, one block down.
Good place, though a bit cramped, but my real beef is with their silken-satchel teabags. As we now know, plastic teabags release millions of microplastics into our bodies. Why stores, especially conscious stores, still carry them is a mystery to me.
Friendly staff, great coffee, delicious cookies
Cold brew was stale and tasted like plastic
Best espresso and best price around since everything in the city is overprice you cant go wrong with Matto
So happy I found this place. Thanks to the reviews I found on google! I’m coffee lover and I always try to find cool little coffee shops. This one did not disappoint. EVERYTHING is $2, so you can’t go wrong. The coffee is actually VERY good. I had the ice coffee. Regardless of the size, it’s 2 bucks. The pastries are also really delicious. That particular location only has two stools inside to sit so don’t expect to hang out there. It’s just a prefect spot to stop by on the go and grab what you want and keep on going. The staff is friendly and so accommodating. That’s my new favourite coffee shop in NYC.
What do I look like in a coffee shop?Good service, good taste, presentation. What did I get at Matto?1) 2/2 personnel being rude2) Poor taste coffee3) my coffee was spilled**14th September 2022, around 9:00am
I went to this store seeking a healthy bite after my work during afternoon. I was glad to find it. I bought 2 pieces, one was cheese with spinach and another was gluten free bar. The bar was too sweet but it was honey made. Sugar gives me side effects (anyway). The other bar was ok. Although it was warm/hot, I dont know why it reacted to the soft parts of the mouth and gave me burns.I wish they listed all ingredients on all labels. The prices were good compared to many other stores in the area or not in the area.:D
Love that everything is 2 dollars there, very fairly priced; though I would give 5 stars if the chai wasn’t too sweet, a little too spicy for my taste. If it’s just normal coffee is good to purchase, Banana bread is also amazing, would definitely recommend you to stop by for a quick coffee
Everything, literally every beverage is $2.50, and for that price (this is an important condition), the quality is remarkably good. Its not indie coffee-shop level quality, but youre not paying for it (so think Starbucks, more or less.. but for 50% off). Youll have the feeling that wait-- theres go to be a catch for 2.50! But there isnt. Its good coffee, friendly service, and pretty good pastries. Whatever is going on, I dont care-- lets support them to make sure we never lose them.
Awesome local coffee shop. Ana is the best, always friendly and knows how to make a good latte. Their app is very user friendly and makes ordering in advance a breeze. Thanks Matto!
One of The best Italian Coffee in the city .For an amazing unbelievable price and thats not allEvery Itam is $2.75.5 stars
Stopped by today to grab a coffee and the delicious Gluten-free Almondy but again the awful service of the lady who is there by 11 am is not great :( fees like she is always mad.. anyway I asked for half & half but she poured milk instead “not great”The place looks duty and the tables outside not well arranged there is to close to the door and obviously people who is sitting there chatting while take a coffee they are without mask :( I think the employments should arrange the tables better in the way when we enter to the store we don’t have to ask to other clients sitting there to move a little bit.Well place to grab a coffee around there are many... and with nice attitude.
Everything is $2 and if you pay with Apple pay, you get a free item!
Where else in the city can you get a delicious oat milk mocha for $2?! Love that everything here is $2-it’s a great place to grab a quick coffee and snack while you’re on the go!
Seems like they always close early. I bought a $20 card at Matto. I would love to be able to use it but every time I try to go at the end of the day they close at least 5-10 minutes early. Unreliable.
I just recently discovered Espresso Matto. Sometimes, its the little things that count the most. Definitely, its a hidden treasure. Great taste and service at a decent price. Remember to tip the staff.
The best service I’ve ever have. Very nice place . Coffee just 2$. Asian girl made for me nice latte. Thanks. See u soon...
Everything in the cafe is $2! What Matto lacks in seating, ambiance, whatever - it makes up for in tasty pastries and coffee at a rare price on the Upper West Side.Since randomly trying this place a couple months ago, Ive been back once a week and now prefer it to any of the other little pastry/coffee shops in the area. The magic superfood bar is AMAZING! Burekas are really good too. And for $2? Try something new :)
Awesome place: Great Quality Coffee,Teas Pastries, and Desserts. Clean. Friendly. Cost effective ( Everything is $2).
I thought there was a catch with the $2 thing, but there really isn’t! They even substituted oat milk at no extra charge and the pastries I had were really tasty! This place is such a gem!!!
Best coffee shop, great prices
Great espresso drinks, literally the best pastry, sandwich and foodcase of any high end coffee place Ive ever seen (even several gluten free choices!) and everything is $2.00 - really.
Interesting that a grand opening of a cafe would be of such a low caliber. First of all the mocha I had was very watered down although I thought it was going to be better since the beans are from La Colombe, but no, still terrible. Secondly because of the 4 dollar minimum charge to card I bought a omelette pita. What was inside the pita along with the eggs? Eggshells. Do not go to this place. Wait a year or two so they can really get their act together. Head to Joes down the block for a better cup of coffee and a better overall experience.
Great espresso for $2. Not sure how long the promotion will last. Friendly service and good selection of pastries.
Absolutely wonderful service and the perfect price on everything! I visit this place twice a day! Try the California burger!!
Two dollar superauto espressos. You get what you pay for.Looking at the old reviews it looks like this place has really gone down hill. Switched to a superauto and not using la colombe anymore.
Everything $2?! With a nice variety of breakfast or snack choices! Chai latte with Almond Milk? Sold!
Stay here is always really friendly, very sweet. Good coffee & snacks!
No bad , but they d pick me up 1 hour later .
No place else in the city where you can get great sandwiches, pastries or cappuccino or hot chocolate. Everything on sale is just 2 bucks !
Solid espresso and quick service at a good price
Great food and coffee, prompt and cheerful service, convenient location, prices to die for.... everything $2/each!
I went to this store on Sunday 1st july n the lady staff was SUPER RUDE n very arrogant n she didn’t had manners n I asked her what is in spinach bureka n she replied rudely I don’t know n she was soooo frustrated n very stressful. Horrible person she was. She should learn some manners.!
Coffee comes from automated machine. Price posted outside ($2) a bit deceiving, only that price if you order from their app. Also says you get 2 free coffee when you download it, but I got it and didnt get any free drink. Apparently you need to first load up $
Good coffee and food at bargain prices
Love this place, almond cruassans are the best!
Amazing coffee for only $2.
Quality of the coffee isnt very good and the staff isnt very helpful. Wont be coming here again
Affordable and tasty food and coffee!
Excellent espresso & service.
Nice people but the coffee was awful.
Best organic veggie burger!
Stopped by for a quick coffee. Decent coffee.
Too small! For out orders only
Not for espresso lovers
Way better than Starbucks
Really tasty and affordable
Great coffee best price
Excellent service
Great coffee
This place is good
Clear example of how to deceive the tourist, in principle everything is $2.50 but if you are a tourist, no. The clerk doesnt help and on top of that she charges you whatever she wants without giving you the ticket.
One of the best coffees in Manhattan for the price and the sweets are also delicious
Tasty, clean and reasonable prices.Delicious, clean and reasonable prices.
