This coffeeshop is a hidden gem, run by the sweetest people! Not only is the coffee delicious, the pastries are also warm and delicious. Not only is the food and drink excellent, the ambiance was also warm and refreshing. The decor gives antique, old school vibes. Excellent place to play board games, catch up with friends, and even date night! 10/10

I needed a coffee shop open later 6 so I googled and happened to find this place. I’m so glad I did! It was really welcoming and a chill vibe. The staff is super chill. The drinks I think are reasonably priced and they taste good. The interior aesthetic is fun. The front half is like an IKEA cafeteria and the back half is like a vintage store, like Mother of Junk in Brooklyn. It’s really interesting and enjoyable. Tho maybe air out the back room a little. It smells a bit musty like a vintage store and I don’t think that’s the goal for a cafe. But maybe, who knows? This will be a go-to spot for me tho.

This beyond a good business- its a jewel of the neighborhood. A community space like this is hard time find. Coffee drinks and eatable treats are good; youll be satisfied if you get any of their offerings to go. But the real asset is the space. The front room is a well designed work space. Many patrons quietly and contently working on their projects. The back room is no work allowed, and they enforce it. Back room has numerous couches and individual comfort seating. Chess board, magazines, books available. And theyve begun to host shows after closing in the space. But the best thing is to bring your thoughts or a friend- a more welcoming space to spend time with either is hard to find.Update, January 25 - All the above still true. And even more an asset to the community as theyve started holding more events after the coffee bar closes at night. Events like local musicians and comedians.

A new cafe opened in Washington heights is pretty amazing. A good place to relax and chill after a long day at work/school. The cozy environment all around makes it calming for studying. And the back of the cafe is a good place for a hangout with friends with its decorations and it’s peaceful surroundings. Will definitely be coming here again!!

The drinks Ive been getting have not been great. I was handed the wrong drink once, another time they didnt bother mixing the syrup, and another time I tried the iced matcha and it was terrible. I really really wanted this place to be great. The barista I usually see during the day is pleasant and helpful, especially when its so busy. I never felt rushed. Its a fine spot if youre really needing something, but I think there are better options. I hope they get to improve! I will keep giving them a shot.

Great spot to get coffee and catch up with a friend. Loved that the back of the shop is a computer free zone, so there’s something for everyone. Appreciated that people were following that rule as well. And the decor back there is so fun and eclectic, with a stunning motorcycle too.

Wow! What a hidden gem! What an amazing place! This place has been busy from day one! Congratulations guys! An old school 90s coffee house from when before star bucks put all these places out of business. Hope you guys are here forever! Thank you for opening up in our neighborhood!

This is a wonderful little place, the iced chai was delicious as was the sandwich, super crispy excellent baguette with delicious chorizo and veggies, etc. Great quiche and lemon pound cake. The front of the shop features tables and computer hangouts, but the back of the shop is an eclectic computer free huge space with found furniture, artifacts, crumbled brick walls, souring ceiling, thrift shop items, comfortable couches. You feel like you have just arrived in a secret estate in Tuscany. Top if off with great streamed music and this is the perfect place for coffee, a snack and a chat in upper Manhattan.

Lack of options to pick from on their menu. The drink I had was pretty flavorless as well. When I asked for a sandwich that I saw on their menu they just said they don’t have any sandwiches, and there wasn’t much else to pick from on their menu to begin with. They definitely need more variety to pick from and should definitely make sure to stock up. The ambiance is pretty nice though so I’ll give them that, whenever there’s space any since it does get pretty packed at times.

After finally taking heed of my partners discover of Five Flies and her raving reviews I finally took the long walk and went there and it far surpassed my already high expectations. The staff is incredibly friendly and sweet, the pastry/dessert selection is truly divine (vegan pumpkin pie?!?!? YES PLEASE), and the coffee was super delish. What was the best part beyond those already amazing things? THE BACK ROOM! Computer free (love it), eclectic and spacious, this room was truly a dream and how I want my future house to look should I ever be able to afford one. :pAntiques mixed with colorful comfy seating (big plus on comfort), random typewriters, all sorts of goodness. As an artist, this place was so dreamy and inspiring to me that I did a little funky distorted art version of the room.Great place to read, relax, do art, scrolll your phone, have awesome convos, all while partaking in delish goodness.I have not been to any of their events but would love to and would love to see more live music and fun stuff in that back room and love that they are open until 7 pm which seems to be relatively rare for coffee shops in NYC which is strange for the city that never sleeps.I have made the long walk often since and plan to many more times.Bravo Five Flies!

Since our first visit to this spot many months ago, we have been going back quite a few times. They have a small seating area up front, working area for customers with laptop, and a large room in the back with more seating. They have all sorts of baked goods and some other items such as sandwiches. The offering changes all the time, so that you can get something different each time you visit. They are also vegan friendly, so you can get vegan goods and drinks here. The back room is furnished with old/antique looking chairs and sofas, very cozy. No laptop is allowed in this area. We really love this back room. They used to have a motorcycle in this room, which I thought was super cool, but it has been removed, I assume to make room for weekly events and such.We tried a few different drinks and baked goods over the several visits. Maple Brown Sugar Latte, Bourbon Pecan Maple Latte were our favorites so far. I had them hot and cold. Not too sweet, deep flavor, I loved them.Maple Glazed Cruller is my favorite baked goods so far. Pistachio Croissant is pretty good too. Loads of crushed pistachios on the top! Their quiche is good, but small and pricey. Panouzzo was HUGE and filled with nice amount of tasty ingredients. Vegan Lemon Matcha Bread was a-ok. Very thick and dense, not so moist nor light. The flavor was not great either. Parisian sandwich was basically a ham and cheese in a croissant, and it was just a-ok. Nothing really special. There are some hit and miss when it comes to the food, but the drinks have been great. The staffs are not friendly, unless they know you. They might not be polite, or greet you with a warm smile, but they are efficient. I hope they will get more friendly staff so that we feel more welcomed, but other than that, we love the atmosphere and the coffee, that keep making us go back again and again…

Been frequenting this spot for a few months now, since it’s right by me and I am an avid cafe fan/hopper. It’s lost its initial charm to me though, I’d suggest to make the trek elsewhere. The visual atmosphere is great, but this is not a spot for an easygoing cafe trip, unless you have solid noise-canceling headphones. It’s aesthetically gorgeous, but this does not feel like it’s part of Washington Heights, just out-of-place rather than a hidden gem. The staff are not as friendly or welcoming as surrounding mom and pop shops in the neighborhood. If authenticity to NYC culture is what you care about, this may not be the best representation or spot to venture to.Go for an Instagram post, but not for the experience.

Amazing espresso but the owner can be a bit rude and will likely greet you with unsolicited comments about your coffee order. As for the other baristas, they’re quite delightful. Pastries are okay, nothing special. Ambiance gets a 10/10. There’s a back room, the speakeasy, which is laptop/device free, and the primary room which offers a clean and inviting atmosphere for work/studying.

A vapid space that adds nothing to the community besides a reminder that this neighborhood is being overrun by gentrifiers who do not understand the heart and soul of the Heights. The space attempts to be an innovative center which facilitates conversation and non-screened productivity but falls short due to the way its managed. They have an entire backspace which masquerades itself as a welcoming space but no one is allowed to be in the area unless youre quiet. The furniture at front is recycled iKEA 2019 with used Housing Works couches at back. This pretentious eyesore does not belong here. There are other gentrified cafes in the area that arent as stuffy as this one.

More vegan offerings, and some mushroom drinks will earn a perfect score. Coffee beans used in espresso are medium roasts and mellow. Oat flat whites are smooth and not as coffee-intensive (full-bodied) as Birch makes (my current favorite).Whats really great about Five Flies is the owner, his family and the vibe they created...its an actual neighborhood hangout. Five Flies supports the community in many ways.

**Disappointing** I stopped by expecting an espresso bar experience, but apparently, “to stay” here means “serve it in a paper cup.” Because who doesn’t love paying specialty prices to drink like you’re at a gas station? When I asked for a real cup, they casually just poured the cappuccino into a ceramic one, which completely really ruined the foam. Luckily, the neighborhood has more coffee options to offer that really put love into their pouring presentation and truly care about customers. The Chipped Cup, Manhattanville Coffee and Dear Mama got us covered!

Very great addition to the Washington heights area! I love the energy of the back room and it’s a great place to get some reading done and unwind. My only quarrel is that it took 24 minutes for them to heat up a pre-made ham sandwich when they weren’t very busy with orders (I only know how long it took because I was timing my laundry nearby) so I hope that was a one time occurance lol. This place is very nice on the inside, and the pastries were very good. The service was just ok, but if you want to drink your coffee inside, you must drink out of a ceramic cup. So don’t order a large, or you are wasting your money if you expect the same amount of coffee you get in a large cardboard cup. The ceramic is less than a small cup. It turned into an inside dog park on the few times I was there, 5 or 6 dogs barking inside, combined with an equal amount of strollers and crying babies. I love dogs, but not inside a coffee shop. The customers are identical to the privileged entitled people you find in some upper west side coffee shops. I’m sure they were delighted when they moved to Washington Heights and found a place where they can mingle with their own people. I moved to the Heights for the diversity. You won’t find it here. Enjoy!
