We visited Barn Joo Nomad during happy hour and were absolutely blown away by the experience! From the moment we walked in, the vibrant yet cozy atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The oyster special during happy hour was a highlight—so fresh and delicious that it felt like they were straight from the sea.The open rolls (spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and crispy fish) were nothing short of immaculate. Each bite was bursting with flavor, and the presentation was stunning. The popcorn chicken and truffle fries were perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor, making for ideal shareable plates. The braised pork belly was a dream tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of fat and served right on top of a grill to maintain its warmth. The Galbi hot stone bowl was a showstopper, both visually and in taste, with rich flavours that left us wanting more. The Korean army soup was hearty and delicious, though it could have been a touch more authentic. Still, a very enjoyable dish. The Pasta Nomad Noir stole the show! The squid ink pasta was creamy, rich, and an absolute must-try.The cocktails were as impressive as the food! The cucumber tonic was refreshing and perfectly balanced, while the lychee martini was a delightful mix of sweet and exotic.Barn Joo Nomad exceeded all expectations with its creative dishes, impeccable flavors, and beautiful presentations. Whether you’re a Korean food enthusiast or just looking for a memorable dining experience, this is the place to be. Can’t wait to come back and explore more of their menu!

I would totally return for the awesome lunch set! For a little under $25, you can have the option to pick a set that comes with so many side dishes! I got seafood stone bowl and my friend got kimchi cream udon. Mine came with salad, croquettes, and sushi rolls. You get your moneys worth, and everything is delicious! We also loved the soy garlic wings! Despite so much good food, I was tempted to add an uni hand roll, too, which was a good decision because it turned out to be very tasty! My earl grey high ball cocktail was not bad, but I couldnt really taste any earl Grey flavor. There was only one waitress working but she was very nice and took care of all the tables well. Do be careful of the restroom lock, it doesnt seem to work!

Im a fan of this spot for its fantastic happy hour deals and tasty small plates. The service is no-frills, with a classic New York attitude - dont expect a warm welcome. However, the bartenders spicy personality (matching her spiky hair!) is part of the charm. Drinks are consistently well-made, making it a great spot to grab a drink.

We stumbled upon Barn Joo’s 3rd location in the city today after the gym. We were delighted to discover that they have a happy hour daily from 4-6 pm, and $1 oysters from 4-7 pm.We opted to sit at the bar, and our bartender, Jesse, was very attentive. The happy hour cocktail menu here was slightly different from the one at the Union Square location. I ordered my usual beeline, while my partner went for the lychee martini. Both drinks were delicious, but the lychee martini was on the sweeter side.We also decided to take advantage of the happy hour food menu and ordered the popcorn chicken and crunchy tofu. Both dishes were incredibly tasty. As for the oysters, they were fresh but slightly smaller in size. The first floor of the restaurant had plenty of seating, with additional seating available on the second floor. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, dont miss out on this gem of a restaurant.

A beautiful mid size restaurant selling Korean food. The open sushi was beautiful but somehow not that tasty. The soup was tasty but boiling hot. I literally had to wait 15 minutes for it to cool down. Alcohol is a bit pricey. All drinks on the menu were $18. Over through a beautiful experience. The bar is a little bit of a scene which was cute to see.

We had the best meal here. Our server was excellent. She made.perfect recommendations and helped by reducing spice on dishes. She was super friendly as well. The cocktails were beautiful. I had the yuhzu bloom and it was delicious. We share a few delicious tapas...the galbi and spicy tuna half rolls, the KFC wings with the sweeter sauce, and the steamed dumplings. These were all so delicious!! We also split the spicy Korean seafood udon army soup which was excellent. They brought two bowls so we could split. All the food was amazing. Cute and clean interior. All the details are considered.

I was a regular customer at this place , before tonight...had to change my reviewcame in today around 8 pm ,and the waiter was pissed and mean , because I sat at the table, and asked him for a menu, told me that table was not ready, when I asked a bartender if I can place an order,he pointed a finger at me with a bossy gesture, telling me that I should wait for a waitress to place and order , when I asked for manager,he said Im the one in charge ,..So I just walked out...it appears that they think that they can treat their customers as their employees,..They should be very sorry for themselves, because its the other way around because its the customers who pay for their existence. Will not be back.Very rude and hostile environment...

Food was great hand rolls very good the kalbi do need to give it couple minutes to heat up but also good. Every dish no complaints and the yuzu beer topped off everything. Love how music was not blasting so loud so we didnt have to shout. Took off one star because the raspberry in our bingso was bad and ik its easy to not notice but i do still expect high quality restaurants to use fresh ingredients and if it wasnt this small berry overall my dining there would be nothing but five stars. Btw bingso was also very very good minus the mold berry.

Had a fantastic dinner here the other night. Its conveniently located within a short walk from Herald Square and the Empire State Building. Requested for a last minute reservation that turned out to be a good move as they were packed on a week night.Service is impeccable! Servers are super friendly, attentive, and very efficient. Our order came out relatively quickly, we never thought that we were left waiting too long, and our servers kept a close eye on us the whole time.We ordered the pasta noir, pork belly, open roll trio (uni, shrimp tempura, and house recommended galbi), Drunken Tiger cocktail, and bread pudding for dessert. The pasta noir was amazing, it has chili oil so we requested for a little less heat and it was just perfect for us. Its very generous with the toppings and was enough to share for 2. Other variations from other restaurants have similar dishes that were too rich, but Barn Joo got this one perfectly balanced. Pork belly was the same, great flavor and the white kimchi was refreshing and served as a palette cleanser. We originally ordered it for our kid, but ended up enjoying it with him as the serving was quite generous. The trio was equally great, I highly recommend the galbi, shrimp tempura, and uni varieties. They can be eaten in one or two bites, but each one packed a lot of flavor. The Drunken Tiger cocktail was smooth and balanced flavors with the alcohol pretty well. Finally, the bread pudding was a great finisher for the night. Its creamy, chewy, and had just the right amount of sweetness without being too decadent.Overall, Barn Joo Nomad is an awesome date night spot in Korea town, we hope to visit again soon!

A high-standard place bar & restaurant. They make everything with a touch of Korean taste which is brilliant.🍝The seafood pasta was the VIP that night! They served a lot of seafood in the dish and the taste was rich.✨✨🦀Soft shell crab was great too. Two sauces that were served on the side were match with the taste. The presentation was beautiful too.🍖Pork bell was a little classic but the white kimchi on the side was impressive.🍰The only thing I will not that recommend is the cheesecake. The cheese cake tasted great but didn’t have the alcohol taste that was mentioned on the menu. A little bit disappointed.🍸I order the cocktail Colada Highball which was on the sweet side. Recommend for people who don’t like the alcohol taste.✨

To start we had the open rolls that look like seaweed tacos, and we shared two entrees, the braised octopus and hwe bibimbap. The food was beautiful presented and tasted great. Both the outdoor and indoor had a nice vibe. Service was quick. I thought it was a little weird that we were two people and they brought out only 1 set of utensils and 1 soy sauce and wasabi bowl...were we supposed to share? 🤷🏻‍♀️ All in all though this was a great lunch spot find!

Highly recommend! The braised octopus and the chilly shrimp are the must try. The octopus is tender and the veggies in it is well cooked and nicely seasoned. The chilly shrimp is so much better than I expected!!! It’s not oily and the chilly sauce is sweet. The uni bibimbap didn’t exceed my expectations, but still pretty refreshing! I will definitely try other dishes again.

This restaurant caught our eye so we decided to eat here for dinner and Im so happy with that decision! We started off with Tteok and Cheese which is topped with quinoa (adds a BEAUTIFUL crunch) and it was AMAZING, it was my favorite thing off the menu. As for entrees, my friend got the Bimbimbap which was surprisingly topped with a whole lot of raw fish. I got the Open Hand Roll Trio set which was $20. I took the waiters suggestions and got the Fried Shrimp, Eel, and Spicy Salmon. The Eel and Fried Shrimp were my favorite. Theyre topped with this yellow sauce that is so good. Its a little sweet and fruity but it tastes amazing with the protein. The rolls are just a little hard to eat though; however, the flavors were top notch. Each entree also came with a small cup of their bone broth soup which didnt really have any flavor to it. We also decided to try the Mákku which is a beer and I absolutely loved it. Its sweet and fruity and was refreshing to drink on a hot day. We got both the original and the mango and I prefer the mango a whole lot more.

There was oysters special and 2 cocktail specials. Both were good, except that the waitress accidentally poured some of the lychee martini out…Without apologizing nor exchanging for us.Checking out was pretty fast. I guess they should hire more staffs during busy hours, and train them to replace a drink if it’s was poured out accidentally by them.

Update: Im not sure whats going on at this place anymore, but the service wasnt great tonight, the cocktail not as good as usual, sashimi not as fresh as usual, and it took 3 times to get the fishermans soup made not spicy. I have gotten it many times before and there has always been the option for spicy or not spicy, and the menu still lists the two different types. I told the waitress I wanted it definitely not spicy but it was brought out to me fully spicy. The waitress said she had told the kitchen, so she asked them to make it again, supposedly not spicy. It came back a second time again spicy. The waitress said she thought that the kitchen just makes it slightly less spicy if you dont want the spicy option. What?? I had to ask a different waiter who has been there a long time if he could straighten out this issue, and he finally got them to make it the way it was always made before for the non-spicy version. But all of this took so long that they were closing up while I was eating it, and then I had to smell horrible strong smelling cleaning products while trying to eat so I ended up not even finishing. The only thing that went well tonight was that the truffle fries were delicious.Previous review:I love this place in general. The staff is wonderful, the cocktails are delicious, and the food is generally great too. However, after one time having the most delicious fried soft shell crab I ever had in my life, I have ordered it two times again over a couple of years (including last week) and it has been absolutely disgusting. So these last two times the crab was not fresh and tasted fishy and gross. Even worse, last week they somehow molded the concoction they fried to look like the shape of an entire soft shell crab, but in fact they stuck two crab legs onto the ends of this fake body they formed and those legs were the only actual crab (which was disgustingly fishy and gross tasting), and the rest of the fake body of the crab was filled with a ridiculous amount of stringy sweet potato shreds (white and tasteless). The one time I had the delicious fried soft shell crab here, there was just a small amount of the sweet potato shreds wrapped around the *outside* of an actual and fresh soft shell crab, so those shreds were deep fried too, instead of being a mountain of white stringy grossness, filling up a fake body shape. Please either go back to making delicious and real fried soft shell crab, or just take it off the menu.

Tonight I just wanted to get something quick to eat near my hotel. I saw this place Barn Joo Nomad at 816 6th Ave. New York.I have to admit I was lured in by the $1 oysters for happy hour, I always love oysters but unfortunately those were not great, oh well at least it was cheap.I was sitting at the bar and asked the barman what were the open rolls on the menu as I never had those before, I just wanted an explanation and he looked at me like I was an idiot, not the friendliest for sure, he looked miserable the whole time, I guess you cannot always be happy but hey make an effort as it is not my fault if you are in a bad mood and you still expect a tip for the service. In any case the open rolls were really good.I could have ordered more but because of the atmosphere I just left, sometimes it is not just about the food, good service can make the whole experience better.

The high top chairs are metal, without any cushion what so ever- fine, but why is the actual chair seat so tiny?? We got the calamari, popcorn chicken, seafood rice cakes, and beef krispy paella. The popcorn chicken was VERY good super tender and flavorful. Every other item we ordered was not great. The seafood in every dish was really chewy which made it pretty unappetizing. We eat a lot of seafood and this just did not make the mark. The krispy beef paella was also a major let down. Almost no flavor - the only thing you could taste was furikake/seaweed flavor. The cocktails were also nothing special. If you do come, go for the popcorn chicken and skip the seafood.

I had the shrimp tempura which was great. We didnt even know our server (female)was our server until we picked up the bill from the table because nobody came back for a while to check on us. A male kept attending to us. The pork bowl was cold and nasty... (not even picture worthy)

Food was so good and the atmosphere was really great with not so loud music or noise from other customers but it was still lively! We had the soy garlic chicken wings served with pickled radish, the barn joo salad with yuzu sesame dressing, and the steamed kimchi dumplings to start.Dumplings were a little dry, would prefer sauce on the side as an option. Chicken wings and salad were amazing !! Chicken wings were perfectly crunchy and the salad and a great balance of sweet and savory. We also had 2 bottles of the grapefruit soju which was perfect with what we were eating everything balanced really well!We had the beef krispy paella as our entree and it was truly so good i couldn’t stop eating it. We were so full with no room for dessert but maybe next time because I will definitely be coming back ! Everything felt super light and didn’t weigh us down after !

This place is amazing! It’s has a really hip vibe without being pretentious. As food is prepared it is brought to the table. This may turn some people off, but everything was fresh. I highly suggest the Tiger Roll. I literally had a food orgasm. I ate with a friend who is not as into Asian food, and she was very satisfied with her meal. We topped the meal off with the Bourbon Bread Pudding. O.M.G. Seriously, don’t pass it up. This place will not disappoint. It would be a regular spot for me if I did not live out of state.

I had been to the Barn Joo restaurant in Union Square (which was fantastic) and as we were in the areas again thought we would go to this one of their restaurants too. As usual the food was amazing, with the Korean tapas being a particular highlight. Popcorn chicken was spicy and crispy (our kids loved this!), soft shell crab was beautiful, wings had a great flavor to them and the pork belly was beautifully braised with kimchi - yum yum! Finally the oyster deal after 4 is wonderful value! Try this place out, you won’t be disappointed.

I randomly stopped in here with friends and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The Bibimbap was loaded with fish and just an excellent surprise. I definitely enjoyed their take on it. The pork belly meal was extremely generous and should be shared with the table. We also had the friend asparagus which was excellent and had just enough crunch without being greasy. The last thing I’d like to mention is their drinks. We had a spritz, Manhattan and the drunken tiger. All three of us loved them and would order them again. The staff was super attentive and wants our feedback as they had just opened. Very nice people who were excited to be opening a new space.

Overall food was good. The handrolls were great kalbi did need couple minutes to heat up but also good. Yuzu beer topped off everything well.Bingso was perfect combination of sweet creamy and fruity but i took off one start cuz the raspberry was bad and had mold. Ik its easy to not notice mold on a tiny berry but when im dining at high quality i expect the ingredients to be fresh. If it wasnt for the mold my dining experience would be nothing but 5stars. Also likes that they dont blast music so loud you have to shout to each other.

Bibimbap, yes! We got the beef one because the sea urchin one was sold out when we arrived at 10pm. Still taste amazing! Just a tiny bit salty. We ordered 4 open roll. Rating from top to bottom: eel, spicy salmon = tuna mayo, mushroom. I rated mushroom the lowest is because it was way too salty. We also ordered fried chicken. Again, it’s on the saltier side. Crunchiness is 10/10.Overall food is good and staffs are very friendly. I would come back again to try their sea urchin bibimbap!!
