This is a really cool venue with live 🎶 music. We happened in while waiting for a show at Blue Note and were blown away by Harlem Gospel Travelers. Definitely a little tight seating like many places in thee Village.
Cozy, LIVE muszac spot! Great energy, good bartender. and even a better vibe. Soooo glad I went to see Aaron Marcellus & The Marcellus Collective “ElectricGroove Soul”, as recommended by a dear brother/friend.
Fabulous little music venue in the Village. We very much enjoyed Wayne Tucker & The Bad Mothas. The food was great too. I had Margherita pizza and my wife had salmon and fries. Great deals during happy hour. Friendly service. On another night we also enjoyed the Irish singer Grainne Duffy and her band. And Shayna Blass was great too.
Have been to Groove a bunch of times to see Hannah Ray Teal. Never less than a great experience...food really good. Drinks, and sweet servers. Nice friendly atmosphere and Hannah Ray and her band are always entertaining and top notch. Her growing list of original songs is amazing...see her in this intimate setting while you still can!Had a chance to see Autumn Jones. soul-singer extraordinaire, and had the same great experience at Groove, as always. Autumn expectedly packed the house with her beautiful tunes, and Grooves great staff was more than ready! No problem getting seated, good food and drinks and a just cool, friendly party vibe. All in the heart of the village, go see a great show at Groove and enjoy your best life!
Cute spot near a very cozy neighborhood park! We stopped by for a few drinks and enjoyed a live performance! The staff is very friendly and happy hour deals are pretty reasonable!🤩🙌🏼
Nice atmosphere! Had issues with having enough space to celebrate a birthday party but once resolved we had a great time. Would come again. Make sure you catch the Black Soul Experience!
AMY WINEHOUSE TRIBUTE NIGHT!?! EASY CALL! Happy 40th queen.Came here STRAIGHT from my 4th ever vocal lesson in which I was attempting to sing Youre Beautiful by James Blunt. Turns out, thats a really tough song to sing ahahahaha but lowkey I was finding my rhythm by the end of the session, dont sleep. We arrived after paying $27 each for premium seats and were sat 2 tables away from the stage. The Amy Winehouse tribute singer was fantastic, but the real star of the show was Kiki who was doing it ALL. She was on the keys, saxophone, and flute and had the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand on some of those sax solos ahahaha. THE FANS ARE RESTLESS FOR MORE KIKI!Its a 2 item minimum, so we got some Mezcal Mules and 2 batches of french fries... 2 batches because my big homie said the first batch was too well done and he wanted them to be softer. What an interesting fella.Overall, a great place to come and be inspired by some live music on Macdougal street. I mf LOVE Macdougal street, and will write some type of ode to it at some point, but today is not that day.THANK YOU GROOVE AND WHEN YOURE READY TO HAVE AN RHCP TRIBUTE NIGHT ME AND MY BAND ARE READY TO SELL THAT THANG OUT!IG @jnov_Tiktok @jnov__
I only caught the tail end of the act, but this place was such a blast. The ambience, lighting, and atmosphere were so intimate and made for a memorable experience I rarely have in the city.
Cant remember if I visited 20 years ago when I used to hang out in the village. It is small and seating is confusing. If you not eating dinner, you cant sit down??? We ending up ordering small sides and drinks. Waitress was very energetic. The singer was amazing singing Toni, Janet and Mary.
Like I said many times “What brings me back to a business is good customer service and hospitality.”So we walked into the Groove for dinner and drinks. After we found a table. We waited a few minutes to look at the menu before flagging down a busy waiter. He said he would be right back. We waited 15 minutes and he never came back. We were hungry and wanted to buy drinks. We were patient, waited a few more minutes and no one came. It was now 20 minutes later. So we flagged down a waitress. She was very kind and happy to help us with our order. She gave us good customer service and hospitality. Actually it was two different waitresses who gave us great service. I gave the second waitress a big tip. I wish I got her name but she was tall. And the short waitress was great to. Thank you for the great service. We had good time! ☺️
The music was perfect 👌Our waiter was perfect 👌The food and service 👌After the concert, we finished drinking a beer, but the other waiter asked us to get out “right now” despite we asked to wait one minute. It was a little bit rude)
The wait service is more than Horrible just hire a homeless person for your personal servant for the night....maybe ig ore the smell.. I mnsire you will still have better service its horrible..
Great space and drinks! The mango martini was excellent, really enjoyed it!It was good to see a love bar charge by 1 drink per person instead of a cover fee. Lots of places we went to kept trying to charge 20-50 per person for fees so that was weird but again as tourists it’s fine I guess. We accidentally stumbled here and 100% recommend for those that want to experience NYC is a new way.We got to listen to funk rock which was cool!
Husband and I had an amazing time at the Groove Thursday night. Loved the live music. The atmosphere was lively and fun, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The drinks were great and reasonably priced, and the music was excellent. I would highly recommend this bar to anyone looking for a great night out!
This place was GROOVEY!!!! The music and energy in that place were AMAZING!!! And the food was okay. But youre there for the music and to jam, not dine like youre at a five-star Restaurant. Cant wait to go back!
Live music, good vibe, serves alcoholFree entrance
I normally don’t write reviews but this place was a bad experience and deserves a review. It was the first time I was there and the last. I went on Saturday and a chair was not good and I fell off the chair hurting my back and head. I wanted to give it the benefit of doubt so I requested a different chair and stayed. We each consumed food and drinks and the order was wrong, however we stayed with it because it seemed like we were given an attitude due to me falling which was not a pleasant experience. The server said we had to each buy 2 drinks minimum. At first that was not going to be an issue because I had planned on going to eat and drink while we heard some music, I had made reservations online for this place. However, after about an hour while we were still consuming the server came and said we had to each pay $10 per person on top of our bill if we stayed any longer. In other words we were being told we had to leave or pay which to me it was the first time I ever experienced something like this while consuming at a place. At the end the server got mad as well because I wanted to use Apple Pay. I would not recommend the place if you are planning to have a nice evening out.
Unfriendly atmosphere and local rules, bad quality of Sauvignon blanc and Prosecco, very good live music (Daria and her band).
The service was awful, the music was bad, and the bar waiter was extremely unprofessional. I was asked to leave my table just because I had a cocktail instead of food, even though the entire row of tables was empty.
The love music here is awesome!! The band Coffee & Biscuits had the vibe right. The lead singer was so entertaining & fun. The drinks & fries were great but I wasnt as impressed with the other food options.Go for the live music & drinks!
This is an awesome place to listen to live music every night. I visited on a Friday night and we were able to get in without a reservation. Had a great time listening to some R&B music, enjoying some delicious truffle Parmesan French fries and classic cocktails. It does get really packed, though - be prepared to either share a table or be brushing shoulders with the person next to you.
The worst cocktail I have ever drunk. Pre -mixed, tasteless and nearly alcohol free.
This is one of the best live music venues in NYC without the frill but with everything you need to have a great night. The staff was awesome but the Manager Dawn made our night. Will be back for sure!!
This place is a gem. The whole vibe and atmosphere is amazing as soon as you work in. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food was great and delicious, as were the drinks. The loved the live performance. I would definitely recommend coming here to anyone.
Very nice venue for live music! I went to the Tuesday night set with Troy Weeks and had a great time! Great food, great service, and great vibes.
Happy hour everyday baby! They have live music too which is always a plus. Forgot to take photos of the food and drinks. But it was an evening well spent!
Had a great time! Service and food were surprisingly good. The music was so good. The only downside was the tables were to close together. Next time Id take the cheapest seats that have room to dance.
Its a small venue so everyone is sitting very closely together but the drinks were good and to be fair I only ordered fries which were REALLY good fresh hot and crispy. The staff are smiling and have pleasant energy.
Im a solo female travler and Ive been to Groove several times throughout the year and this was one of my favorite spots to listen to live music. However, my last visit was extremely disappointing. I reserved my ticket for the 9:30 beforehand and when I arrived I was told partied of 1 is standing room only. I then asked if theres an available chair at one of the occupied tables could I sit at that table with the guest, with their permission. I was told, Yes. Lucky me, 5 minutes later there in fact was a chair. No sooner than 10 minutes later the same staff member said I had to give up. His reasoning was that somebody else needed. Needed how?!?! I reserved and paid my money just like everyone else. Why Im I being penalized for traveling alone?!?! Makes no sense to me and that was my LAST time going there. Perhaps bc Im not from New York but the fact is that was RUDE and they will not be getting any of this womans money!
Great music. Highly recommend the cheesecake. It really does taste better in New York! Friendly and helpful staff. Good service. Negroni was goot
Great place with live music! It’s best to get tickets online (free tickets) to be seated at the table.
Great singer, good audiences, fantastic mood lol !!! dont need any more words
We arrived one hour before the show started. They said it was free to access. We were having some drinks waiting for the show and 10 minutes before they told us we need to pay 25euros each to stay. The waiter just told us and not other clients. When I asked for a Manager, they started shouting to me without any reason and threating me with calling security . Never in my life someone treated me like this. More people came and I asked if they needed to pay and they told me no. So they were discriminating us. A security came asking us to leave in a really bad mannerThey even made me cry and We saw them laughing of me because of that. I regret not to call the police for this and I hope people are not visiting this place, especially if you are a tourist
I always enjoy the music at Groove. Quite a few drinks are pricey, but theres no cover, so thats nice. Bring some cash to tip whoever is playing, and definitely check it out. I like to start my evening off with Groove and then hit up other venues later at night.
This is where my Fathers Day started. My son manages here; this was a gift from him(lord knows his mother and I needed a date night. Thx son!) The Groove and Cafe Wha? are owned by the same people, which makes for a great combo. The sidewalk seating reminded us of St. Martin, one of my favorite islands, and the food was superb! There was also great live entertainment, which rounded out the experience perfectly! A short walk down the block to the Cafe for the James Brown review made for a night of dinner and entertainment I thought were long gone. Heres a taste of what they offer...
**Traumatizing Experience: Physical Assault and Racism at This Establishment**During my birthday week, I visited this bar to meet a friend and enjoy a drink. Unfortunately, what should have been a joyful occasion quickly turned into a nightmare. Before I could even place an order, I needed to use the restroom. When I informed the bouncer of my intention to make a purchase, he accused me of lying. Despite my assurances, he aggressively pushed past me as I was walking down the stairs to the restroom, nearly causing me to fall. Once I reached the restroom, he physically blocked my access by holding the door shut and cornering me with his arm. This unprovoked assault was shocking, humiliating, and completely unacceptable. To demonstrate my genuine intent to make a purchase, I even offered to buy a bottle of water afterward, but the manager rudely dismissed me, insisting that I leave instead of staying for a drink.Rather than politely communicating their policy or simply observing whether I made a purchase, the staff resorted to hostility, physical assault, intimidation, and verbal accusations. The bouncer’s aggression was compounded by the manager and another staff member, who further accused me of lying and guarded the restroom to prevent my access. As a young woman, I was horrified by their behavior, which was deeply humiliating and dehumanizing. This incident went beyond poor customer service—it was a blatant example of racial profiling and a complete disregard for basic respect. I felt targeted because of my race and youthful appearance, leading these individuals to assume I wasn’t capable of paying for drinks. This baseless assumption, fueled by racism and aggression, was both deeply insulting and traumatizing. As someone who has previously visited this bar to support friends performing live music, I never imagined I would be treated with such hostility and disrespect. The fact that I was physically pushed and prevented from using the restroom is inexcusable. Their actions reflect a disgraceful pattern of profiling, misogyny, and hostility toward women and people of color.I will never return to this establishment, and I strongly urge others to reconsider visiting. Their actions were not only unethical but also illegal. If they continue treating customers this way, it is only a matter of time before they face serious legal repercussions. This experience was beyond disappointing it was traumatic. I hope my review encourages this establishment to reflect on their behavior and implement changes as I feel completely violated and traumatized from this experience.Pictures of the aggressive and disrespectful individuals involved are included below.
This place was SO fun!! The live band was energetic, the crowd was dancing / having dinner, and it was just good vibes overall (On a Wednesday, too!)
We got here an hour after the show started and all the seats were taken. It was only standing room. Not even a spot to lean on. IT WAS SMALL. The pictures make it look bigger than what it seemedI asked the white wide eyed (security, host,?) With a loud obnoxious voice like he was on cocaine, hey can we come back at 9:00 to check out the show since there will be more seats? He said since you PAID discounted tickets for 7pm at 9:30 we have to charge 10$ each. The tone of his voice he wanted everybody to know I got them cheap. Irregardless we still have to pay the 2 drink minimum each plus tips... SooOoo.. And the show ends in an hour and a half. There was a empty table that was there and they said it was reserved but when I called it was first come first serve. Then 3minutes after we went in people just went in and took the seats. I asked the (hostess) why we couldnt sit there? She just shrugged her shoulders and looked at him.. We just left and went to the Comedy Cellar and had a stellar time. But he was rude af. Phone call was first come first serve but then when we get there a whole other story. I didnt want to play the race card but... felt like it.. First time having this experience using DONYC tickets and Ive been to ALOT OF VENUES!
Loved this place ! Attended the band on Wednesday night, where a band call NYTempo played beautifully !! The vibes were amazing, people were singing along and dancing, it was an amazing night ! Staff were very nice and helpful as well! 👍🏻 Made our night !
Great place for local music. Dip trio - fantastic!
What a vibe !!!! Love coming to this place when in town. Came during the holidays and as always, had a great time. Had a reservation for our group which is strongly suggested but youll be able to get by if youre 1-2 people. Its cozy and very intimate. Enjoyed great bar service and well crafted chocolate martinis. Thank you ( Dan or Ben) security kept tabs on its guests and assisted with seating at tables. Ill be back! Really enjoyed the vibe until a young couple came and vaped at the bar blowing massive clouds- this isnt the scene for that.
I was there to see Fred Thomas of the JBs Christmas night. Ive been to The Groove Club before but this time I wasnt happy with how grimy the place felt. Dont hand me a sticky menu with food stuck to it. Our table and menus felt like they hadnt been cleaned for a very long time. I kept my hand way away! I love my funk, and there arent many bars who cater to that genre so come on Groove Club, turn the lights on one afternoon and clean the place up!
I would recommend sticking to beer and shots, maybe some super basic cocktails. The bar program isnt groundbreaking, but the music is usually great. Dim, comfortable and casual atmosphere.
Cool! Nice location, great music, very kind waitress. Approved!!!
The Manager is so rude!!!!! im traumatized!!! very bad impression of new york for me!!! i would not recommend this place!!!! dont ruin your travel!!!
We were a group of four. While the music and atmosphere was great, one of the waitresses started harassing us to order some drinks within 30 seconds of us entering the establishment. We were already thinking about ordering drinks and she was just standing there putting pressure on us uncomfortably. She was very rude and this is not the way to treat customers. We decided to leave and on our way out she made some rude comments including “go away, nothing in this world is free”
Small is beautiful in NYC. Just down the street from the Blue Note is the Groove Club, a dynamic little space for spending time with friends and listening to cool music. Not so cool that it doesnt get hot, come early and get ready for some moves.
What a difference 2 years make...me and my wife visited this spot in 2021 Labor day weekend and it was a cool experience but this past Labor day weekend was horrible. $97 for 2 double shots of blanco tequila and the bartender just took the liberty of gifting her self a 20% gratuity..without asking! All of this after being talked to rudely by the goofy door guy. Needless to say we didnt buy anything. Management needs to get a hold of this place and hold a serious customer service course. Well never come back to this place.
Reasonably priced drinks and the band was GREAT! Theres a 3 drink per person minimum for sitting at a table, but everyone in my group loved the band so it was a total non-issue.
My friends and I had a blast! Good old school music, great vibes!!! The live band was amazing! Hits after hit was being played! We had a great night and I would definitely recommend!
Don’t waste your time or money. After waiting in line and being let in, we decided to get a drink. Only after we handed our credit card the bartender says it’s a 2 drink minimum per person, and that “we should have been told at the door”. Bartender had already made our drink and had our card in her hand, so we forced to agree.Drinks were already $13 each so we got shots as our second drink to not end up with a $100 tab… turns out a single shot of vodka was $14. Cocktails were a plastic cup full of ice with barely any drink itself. When we try to close our tab they tell us that a 20% gratuity was already included in our bill. They also wouldn’t let us sit even when there were chairs available. And if you do end up sitting at a table they make you keep ordering drinks. Too many weird rules. The live music was good but not worth the experience.
I love the vibe. The music is always the best, and there are really good happy hour options. Its an iconic spot, and Im never disappointed.
Amaizing spot with live music, kind staff will welcome you, good drinks, beers and food, you will enjoy!
Lets just go to the village and find some jazz and dinner. Wow, what a woman, from Kentucky. So lucky to find @Joslyn & The Sweet Comprassion
Love the fact its always some type of live music going on. I like to hit the bar rather than sit myself. Bartenders always take care of me and the staff is great.
It was a fun night out with some live music. The band was killing it, and all people were having fun.My only grasp was that i couldnt tell the difference between a bottled beer and a draught one.Ended up ordering a bottled one as they were listed in the same area in the menu
Chris is a ROCK STAR! & wasnt even on the stage. He was our waiter! TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY NATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION was in town for their Regional Convention & had a blast! GREAT MUSIC!!!! REALLY ENJOYED OURSELVES. Great for multiple generations.
Such a fun time and the wings are great! If you’re looking for free live music go on a weekday. This has become a favorite very quickly.
Food was good we had wings, quesadilla, and pretzel bites, drinks were also good we went for happy hour. I would say get there around 4 pm for happy hour because it gets crowded
Really enjoyed myself. Live music, vibes, the food was really good!!Went on a Thursday night. Definitely going back.Seen 2 bands for free!! Youre Able to make a donation tho.Its midsize and tight for a big guy but worth it
The bar engages in racial profiling of its customers, creating an overall negative experience. The manager and staff at this establishment are rude, racist, and lack basic customer service skills, and appear to be primarily driven by greed. As a local in this neighborhood, I had a horrible experience and will not be returning or recommending this place to others.
Last Wednesday, I witnessed a deeply disturbing incident at your establishment. A young woman was shoved down a flight of stairs and accused of attempting to use the restroom without making a purchase. This treatment from the staff was unprofessional, unacceptable, and appeared to stem from racial profiling. The manager’s attitude only exacerbated the issue, reflecting a hostile and unwelcoming culture within the company. Rather than fostering a positive environment for customers, this establishment seems driven solely by profit, with no regard for basic human decency. The incident left me and my party disgusted and deeply uncomfortable. I couldn’t even enjoy the performance, which ultimately led us to leave immediately. Additionally, I noticed alarming unsanitary practices that raise serious concerns. As a nearby student, I had hoped this could be a place to unwind, but instead, it proved hostile and uninviting. I will not support this establishment and will share my experience with others on campus to raise awareness of the discriminatory, disrespectful, and unhygienic practices I witnessed.
Great place to eat and hear music. I had a burger there and a steak to go.
I went to see the show, I was told I can sit in the two table if I order two items. Initially I thought, yes that’s is fair! Then I ordered some food and a drink. Then an African American manager I believe, told me after 20 minutes of sitting and waiting that I cannot sit in the table for two, even when I told him that I could do it when I entered. He just told no without considering that it their fault! This guy was super agresive and told me you sit in the bar or out! I felt so frustrated that, that guy who was wearing a squared shirt needs to be fired, how can he treat costumers like that! Very disappointed
Went on Thursday. Good food, great music, singer Daria Jones. Will definitely return. If there is a band or performance, theres probably a $10 cover, which I think they only take a cc, but check before you go.
My friend was duped online by fake tickets to a show at this place and then when we arrived realized it was an online scam of sorts… it probably wasn’t the venue itself, but still when we arrived they tried to charge again at the door and the original act we bought tickets for never showed up… needless to say, it’s a place music performers that cycle through their acts.. the downside was, was we had to pay another cover to stay for the second act … which, considering my friend had bought tickets to an event here to see a musician who didn’t end up coming, obviously it was not ideal.. We stayed anyway since we drove out to the city, had a few drinks and made the best of it and it was a great time.. but honestly, the space is really cramped and tight and you’re literally rubbing elbows with strangers .. which normally I don’t, but some of the strangers weren’t as pleasant which kills the vibe if you’re sitting almost in their lap.. The bathroom was by far one of the most disgusting, wet and filthy experiences.. The food was good, service was good. We shared the hummus sampler and two out of the three were amazing .. The second act was a little more lively than the first, but both were pretty decent .. based on my experience and the set up of the venue itself I likely wouldn’t go back.
My band had a great time playing The Groove in NYC. People were so nice, amazing vibes and good food and drinks. Cant go wrong here.
The Kyle Lacy band was the bomb! The big e was amazing and even though the standing room only felt like a mosh pit, we still loved it. No cover but a two drink minimum worked better than a $25 cover charge too. The crowd was super friendly and the drinks were good.
Came in absolutely drenched from a sudden monsoon and don came right over with a roll of paper towels for us to use to dry off. super kind and attentive!!! also the hot toddies here are lovely :)
Nice atmosphere. We entered without knowing there was going to be a show. Bartenders were nice, the show didn’t ruined the atmosphere and the band played very good
Curly haired blond man in glasses was very rude. Poor ambiance and music
AMAZING! We didn’t plan on going to groove we actually we going to comedy cellar but we had some time to spare and we walked by and heard the band playing and when I tell you it literally stopped us in our tracks, they were unbelievable! 1 drink min per person isn’t too bad drinks are about 9-14$
Love the spot. Very cozy but dont like the fact when there is a ticketed event they dont have happy hour??? Doesnt make sense. You make more with happy hourt. Small glasses for drinks that are 15 bucks a pop. But overall love the spot.
Place is fine, people inside have a weird power trip to determine where people can or cannot stand. They didn’t let one of our friend to be at the front because he stood on a chair and told us we were lucky he didn’t get kicked. Generally very rude, must be feeling great to set their rules in their kingdom.
I cant believe I spent so many years in NYC and never heard about Groove. My first experience was with Ricky Stein on set and it was almost magical. The food was great and the drinks were just the kind youd want while listening to some awesome live music. 10/10 would visit and recommend. they offer live music 7 nights a week, who says no to that?!
Absolute amazing live music - free entrance and great service / drinks
So, so bar with overpriced drinks. $15 for a very small pour of wine. With 2 NA beers we paid $38. And then the band comes around and asks for tips. Not impressed by regular Tuesday night band, and Not a place Id go back to
My husband and I popped in here on the last day of our visit and we loved it.Really good vibe and the staff were professional and attentive. Ashley was serving us and she was wonderful. My husband said his mojito was the best hes had! Will definitely visit again on our next trip.
Passing by one night w SO and the manager happened to be outside and greeted us in. What a great decision that was. Great talent, reasonable drink prices, and the fries were sooo good! We stayed all night and had a great time. As others mentioned, it is a small space and things get crowded and LOUD! All in a good way.
$6 to use mens room! At least you get a 25¢ bottle of water! Way to go 👏
Nice place but they pack you in like rats. The music was awesome and the location is perfectly situated but we only stayed a few minutes due to the overcrowding and congestion that made it impossible for my wife and I to get comfortable. We were literally at the door and couldnt move.
You can find much better places to go. Diabolically slow table service, we sat for 25 minutes at one point with empty glasses and were totally ignored. My unfinished drink was also bussed then I was told that I was lying. Supposedly a managerial instruction but no manager to be seen. I certainly wasn’t there to fleece anyone - that was just so unjust. If you must go to Groove, keep your hand on your drink. But I’d suggest you avoid altogether. You’ll be looked after better elsewhere.
Me and my friends went to this place last night, first time going there. We asked the waitress if they had happy hour, even though the menu said only until Thursday. Waitress said they did have happy hour. The food we ordered was good, however the drinks were terrible. My friend ordered piña colada and was totally green translucent drink, more like pineapple juice with alcohol. My sangria was watery and no fruit. These people definitely don’t know how to make cocktails. TI’m writing a bad review because we got charged full price for the drinks ($14-15 each) even though we asked before ordering if they had happy hour. The waitress said she couldn’t do anything about it. I asked her to please speak to the manager, but at the end she just came with bad tasting kamikazee shots to compensate for the huge difference in price. We felt totally robbed and lied to. Not coming back, not worth it. Terrible service, I asked for water twice and the waitress never brought water. Ahh but she wanted $35 tip! Thieves
Made the mistake of going to this overpriced ****hole for Halloween. Just bad drag with worse make -up and inexperienced pickpockets who fortunately couldnt tell a wallet from a eyeglass case.Thank God. And of course the NYPD was useless and very short.
Great lives music with food and drinks. FYI, for anyone that is an Old Fashion drinker, there was an upcharge on any particular Whiskey/Bourbon for the drink. They use a well alcohol and I was informed it is not good.
Good:- live music no cover (when I went)Bad:- very poor drink selection- 20% tip forced added to ur bill regardless of what you order/ your party’s size
We were there to see the Kennedy administration and the band was awesome!!! I gave 5 stars for the band. Hands down. The only downside was our waitress, Vanessa! She was the rudest waitress Ive ever met. She was not nice in the beginning. She asked for our order, etc. We ordered fish tacos and 2 glasses of white wine. We didnt really know what happened after that. She came back & asked what we want and we said were ok. I asked her for the check & she came back with the bill. She took a while to give me my credit card and bill because at some point, I just want to leave. She gave it to us and she literally came back and asked us to get up and leave because the table was reserved. So rude!!! Never met a waitress so rude. She shouldnt wait on paying customers if youre that rude. Please take a lesson on customer service, girl. You made our Grove experience not a pleasant one!!!
Has a Fabulous evening with friends. Great intimate venue. Emilie Surtess was simply amazing and sang favorites from Billie, Etta and Ninas collections. Well worth the time.
My friend and I came here last night, we just wanted some drinks. We tried the frozen peach bellini & it was super tasty. We also ordered pretzel bites but we forgot to actually eat them. The place was nice, they had a live band performing & overall it was a good experience:)
Stopped by before going to Comedy Cellar and it was great if youre into live music and want to grab a quick drink.
Pre-pancetta, this place had a bomb happy hour with a great selection of food and drinks that would satisfy any twenty-something. However, for the prices, the cocktails are lacking a bit (Although not terrible/not reminding you of over-poured gin and tonics in plastic cups...)...Yet, the staff is very friendly and you can catch great Jazz performances or watch the Super Bowl here without breaking the bank! Very convenient to get to as well. A tight venue once its packed but never a bad time. Go. Impress your friends.Bonus... Some of thee freshest mozzarella sticks Ive ever had *stares in puzzlement*
Ive never left a review for any place before but I truly feel like I have to with this one. I stopped by the Groove during happy hr by myself to have a drink and to take a call outside where the live music wasn’t as loud and I was told by the bouncer and an employee that they don’t sit people who are by themselves. This felt extremely disrespectful and is a very stupid policy. So much for customer service.
Bought tickets for 9pm show, its 9.45,pm they still doing sound check. Meanwhile waitresses all over you for mandatory expensive drinks in tiny tiny glasses that apparently listed in very tiny tiny font in online tickets. If you are looking for such vibe, this a perfect place for you in the city. Enjoy!
That place made my days during my Chicago trip. I wish to have that cafe in New York.So delicious, so enjoyable 🙏Im even ok sometimes to travel to Chicago for that cafe 🚀
Cool venue in the heart of the Village with perfect stage and bar. Food items were okay.
Good music, they don’t accept “old” $ cash!
Drinks for 15$ were really bad. Instead of Paloma’s grapefruit I’ve got cranberry juice. They didn’t have space inside so We were seating outside by the open window, listening live music and they said they need to close the window 5 mins after we set down, but it was the only reason we stopped by. So we said that. Nobody tried to solve that. Just left us outside like some random table. Never gonna come back.
Same great little spot, management has changed during the pandemic, Unfortunately the manager Don isnt the friendliest, organized and he is very sarcastic. I arrived at 7:30pm to secure a table for 1 for a 9pm show. He told me to come back at 8:30pm, when I returned I was then offered a table around the corner in a dark area off the street away from the live music. I told him I would wait for any table that would open at least near the music so I could see or hear the artist playing, all the waiters were so nice and professional and continually checked on me while I waited standing on the corner. After 20 minutes there was a table that opened, I was told it was a first come first served basis, so I walked over to the available table and no one else was waiting. I then overheard from directly behind me, the manager Don tell a female waitress that I had to get up because there was a group who made reservations after she herself said I could sit there. She cleaned the table and everything for me while I was sitting there. After he told me I couldnt make a reservation. Confusing. I then walked back to the corner and waited for another 10 minutes. Don then comes to me and says he has a table available. I finally get seated. And I asked if he was sure I could stay there, he said rudely Only until I change my mind, I sat down and waited for the waiter. Sheesh.
Great place for live music, good food and atmosphere.
This place was pretty awesome, I must say. Went on a triple date with my bf, my dad his gf nd my aunt and her bf. We ended up here by accident for brunch. But it worked out perfect. The place was empty. We arrived around 2 pm. Someone sweet helped up immediately. They had a $15 special, with tons of different meals to go with a beer or wine. I heard they usually have a live band but that must be a little later in the night. The drinks were nice. I had a chardonnay and that was the first time, it was a little dry but good. I would definitely recommend thia to a clique of friends or for a birthday celebration.
Amazing place. Just stumbled in here but the vibes were immaculate - amazing R&B singers and such a soulful band. Feels like something you can only readily see in New York.
My boyfriend and I really went to Groove Lounge on May 16, 2021 my boyfriend and I really enjoyed ourselves. Music was great, the host was excellent, and professional, drinks was great. My boyfriend and I will definitely go there again. Thank you for your service.
Have read other reviews about the man bun manager so clearly Im not the only one with a terrible experience.I was sat at the bar, waiting for the music to start (which by the way was incredibly good!), when I heard and saw this manager shouting at all the bar staff, telling them not to serve the band any more drinks (I had seen two people get served a glass of wine and bottle of water, not exactly a piss up!). Extremely awkward watching this as a customer, the staff were visibly embarrassed. He kept pacing around the venue nervously, every few minutes coming back to scream more at the waiters. I felt so sorry for them as theyd done nothing wrong. He came to stand near me so I asked if he was the manager, he very aggressively said he was. I told him it wasnt great to speak to his staff in the manner he did in front of customers or otherwise and wow, did I get abused for my comment!! He started yelling and pointing his finger at me, aggressively asking if Id ever ran a bar, calling me honey in a patronising manner, telling me to mind my own business.. I was absolutely revolted that an individual like him could be in charge of anything, let alone in a customer service position! Do the owners of the venue not care what sort of people they hire to run their business? I stayed for the music (and just to annoy him) but spent $0 after that.Ive seen a few complaints about this same manager and Im not surprised. Staff asked me to write a review so that something could be done - I hope they all find other jobs sooner rather than later and leave this ape (sorry, thats an insult to apes) to run the bar without any staff.Would never return which is a shame as the music was fab!
Absolutely amazing... someone took me here Christmas day 22 & omg I loved it, the vibes and the live band Black Soul wow, I cant wait to see them perform again! Its a 2 item min for a table and as crowded as it was we still got a table... the food was pretty good
A place where I received extremely poor service. I sat at a table with a friend, and after ordering some drinks, the waiter asked me to leave the table as there was a reservation, the same happened for other nearby tables. I will certainly not return to this place, I do not recommend it at all. I felt extremely poorly treated.
Very disappointed in the way I was treated. had a reservation for 2. Told them now it’s only 1. Establishment said they cannot seat me because I am a single. If I am a paying customer, not clear on why I couldn’t have a seat….. I will. NEVER support any business where I am miss treated.
Hate to do this for an establishment going through a lot during the pandemic. I have been here many times whether its Groove or previous establishments.Date- April 13th Wed.Good - Bouncer at the front 5 stars.Host - Black male, 5 stars.Waiter - 4 Stars$$ - reasonable. NO COVER charge.Band - Base, Lead guitar, drums and Black female singer ( How will I know- Whitney) are 5 stars. Big up to the band who did a 90 minute set with out a break.Bad - Horrible sound system. Distortion all night.Sound engineering - No stars.Asian looking female singer may be 3 stars. Her mic wasnt working or she is just not good.Worst - Black male singer. Who was trying to do it too much and pitchy all night. We had videos of the band. I watched it again. Its horrible. I am not trying to be Simon Cowell here. I love good sound. I have a better sound system at home. I go to many places where they have local bands. Just walk down the block to Cafe Wha to listen their sound balance. These are easy fix. I will be back. Hopefully better next time.
Slightly pricey. The staff are super nice. Man bun the manager was there while I went but I’m guessing someone gave him a chill pill because he was well behaved. The live music was a very nice touch.
We went on a Saturday around 6pm. Street parking after 6 is free so that was a bonus! The place is small but quaint enough as it got busier closer to 7. Food and drinks were delicious. I had the chicken Alfredo and mango martini. The do include 20% gratuity in the check. Drinks were about $14-16 on average. Bill for 2 entrees and 4 drinks was about $150. Classic new York prices! The 2 bands they had were very nice as well. Only 2 single bathrooms down the narrow stairs. Our servers were friendly and attentive as well. The card you at the door.
The atmosphere was a really cool vibe! We went on a Tuesday & Xa Xa was performing... DOPE ARTIST W/AN AMAZING VOICE!!!! The drink menu was very limited, but we made the best of it.
Dont go if you are Alien (tourist, unknown in the community)! They prefer non-alien customers even if you are spending as crazy. They ruined my New York vacation moving me from my table where I was enjoying the show, because staff get instructions from the manager to move us. Explanation was, sorry you have to move to another table because my manager told me to do that. There was no reservation for the table. We didnt ask to sit there, member of the staff show us the way and sit us there. We move, and we will never come back.Im suggesting you to think twice before you go there!BTW, they charged me 10$ per person on the entrance without explanation why, and of course I didnt get receipt for that ...
1) The wine list is not clearly identified with property name and year. You only pick a cheap varietal wine (grape type) which is unseen in any restaurant. It was changed since the last time I went to Groove in Nov. 2020.2) The alcohol pricing increased to minimum 14$ for both low quality wine or cocktail. We understand the impact of COVID-19 but the clients were also touched financially by the pandemic.3) At the end of an average service, our waitress forced a 20% tip directly (kindly pre-charged on my credit card) while we were only a table of 2. It feels unfair and pushy.4) When we enquired about this practice, Shana (waitress with glasses) ironically said its usual. Being a regular client since 2018 and a douzain visits to the establishment, I know its a total lie.5) Overall, the place was a Gem and became a tourist trap despite the quality of the musical program. Based on points #1 to #4, I will probably never be back.
The drink I had was good with coffee pretty tasty.. The band NLT was great!
I enjoyed performing here. Mike the manager, the sound person, the servers and the audience were all great. Their burger and fries were excellent and this is definitely a place to return to even just for the food. The meat was perfectly warm and had a very nice slight char to it, the lettuce and tomato were cool and crisp and the roll was beautifully fresh and soft. Their fries were fresh and had a nice lightness and crispness to them.Amazingly enough the interior seems practically the same as the time when this club was called Visiones. It seemed even tighter leaving the club than what it was like back in the 90s when I last performed here but this is often the case in a good amount of NYC clubs. Once the room fills up with customers at the tables it gets right in there. The soundman was helpful though in passing me my equipment. The crowd it draws seemed relaxed and there was nothing pretentious about the vibe here. I look forward to returning here in the future.
Amazing Atmosphere! Great live music. House band #musiqislife #NYscene #LAnights great sounds.
Great environment and music, 10/10The bar has a two drink per person requirement and it was $60 for 2 Guinnesses and 2 tequila shots which is on the higher end and why I gave 4 stars. But the environment slaps.
Was able to catch a great performance by BLACK SOUL BAND! Food and drinks are very good and priced well. I would definitely come back again.
Popped in and saw the house band. Great show. It’s tight in there but great for music.
Love The Groove! My husband and I went many times to hear our fave funk musicians. My husband passed away a year and a half ago so I ventured out last night solo from Staten Is because The Push and Pull band were playing and I missed them last time they played in Bklyn. It seems its a problem being seated if youre a partay of ONE. Resy online wont allow a solo to make a reservation and when I arrived I pretty much had to beg to be seated. Once inside, it felt like the same comfy atmosphere I was used to. So thanks( I think), The Groove for letting me enjoy some Funk and have a delicious burger, fries and Fat Tires.BTW a previous Reviewer had the same issue being a solo visitor. Please rethink your policy...
The third time i go there for the same band. Great band. Awful venue.I never once have a pleasant experience.Staff is SO VERY RUDE! Its kind of surreal how a business can be that rude - even to a senior on Monday 6/3/19.Smh.
Nice spot, good music, good drinks, good service, other than the manager being kinda rude, the wait staff was great.Update: The manager did make ammends; he apologized and bought us a round of drinks.Groove is definitely a groovy spot.
Charged 5 dollar cover to get in and then would not give a table unless you were eating. Ordered drinks for our group of 4, overcharged, and then they added a gratuity for themselves. Learned a valuable lesson from this place. Two thumbs down.
I have had the pleasure on several occasions to hear phenomenal local artists perform. During one set, I danced on stage with the band. What an experience!! The Groove is the ideal venue for superior yet moderately priced entertainment!
2 drink min per person as a result the drinks are a higher price for basic beverages. Check out the events calendar to see whos playing. Nice atmosphere
Must visit place in NYC! Great live music and fast service :))
Great small venue for music. Our only complaint was the tight seating with people jostling us every time a customer or server squeezed past our table. But hey, it’s NYC.
Come here for good music and good drinks. This place has great live music. I have never ordered food so I cant comment.
Good food, if modest portions for the price. They also claimed Happy Hour ends at 6, while the website says 7. Still, love the music.
Nice little surprise. Work around this area and wanted a grab to eat. Was tired of the same places and wanted a lunch special. Checked online and said it was closed, but was open for lunch. 15 dollar entree and a choice of beer or wine.food was amazing chicken sandwich worth the money. They have live music, outdoor sitting and a big area to sit with friends so give it a shot
Really good band, pretty good food. Great seating options.
The atmosphere was amazing and filled with love and excitement as an entertaining woman name candida filled the room with joy through her talented singing
I love the atmosphere. The entertainment is outstanding. Keeps me coming back. Food and drinks are great. Very friendly. Comfortable enough to come alone.
Ritmosis is an amazing Afro-cuban band. Groove is a village milestone! Their happy hour prices are great, be careful though. There is a 7 PM cut off, and the prices differ drastically. Clean, great place to hang out. The only recommendation is to the owner: INVEST IN BETTER CHAIRS. They are so old and raggedy. Other than that, this is one of my favorite spots EVER.
We only stayed for one band, but I enjoyed it. Cant wait to go again and stay longer.
I love matt is the legendary
The vibe and atmosphere is full of energy the waitstaff are very cool attentive and fast service when you place your order the live music when I went was amazing I will definitely be back the food was great as well you have to try the truffle fries
The old Groove was great, the new Groove is fantastic. Great happy hour, great staff, with Christina at the bar and Julian ( 🤩🥰 ) managing. The drinks are fantastic and the food is delicious. Soooo many reasons to go.
I really like this place. Came in twice, in the evening, during my short stay in NYC. Great for live music and the patrons are friendly.15 months later I returned. Still great. The music was even better.
THEY HAVE LIVE MUSIC ALMOST EVERY NIGHT. THE OUTDOOR COVERED SEATING IS A BONUS ON RAINY DAYS. THE MENU IS VARIED, WHICH I LIKE. THE STAFF IS VERY GOOD AND THE SECURITY IS TOP NOTCH.
Fantastic atmosphere, live music, affordable happy hour in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City.
Cocktails are below average; didnt try food that was a bit expensive. But the live music and the atmosphere are what matters here! Great fun!
If you are looking for good funk, rnb or soul music live, Groove is a must! They have bands every night and really cant tell whos better. From simple cover bands to original artists you will unlikely find anything not to like about their music. Drink offers are decent and food menu is pretty much bar food oriented, but really delicious. Daily happy hour here! The only thing I didnt like is that place is pretty small and tends to get crowded fast. If youre ok with that, theres no reason not to give Groove a chance. Sometimes they will charge to enter, but price range is around $5.
Small space, messy, unorganized and didnt honor my reservation because they gave away the tables to walk ins with no reservations
Great place for live music and drinks and okay food but little crowded but that’s New York is so. Must see place
So they didnt say that this amazing place with amazing musicians existed!!! I love it. I will definitely come back especially for Antwon Robinson!!! Hes so fine!
Always a great place, but I truly miss Lenard and the Nimrods. Idk if they are still performing there but anytime I went, they werent there. Bring them back
The Black Soul Experience live band is phenomenal!! Great music and awesome singing. This band is FIRE! 🔥 🔥 🔥 I promise you wont be disappointed💯💯💯
Cool place to hang out. Eat nice food. Get a good drink and listen to live music.
Those wings was tha buss, not anymore. Guess nothin last forever. Music still good. Service was on point! Atmosphere still atmospheric!
Nice atmosphere, could use a little less tables so itll be more spacious to move around. But other than that its a nice place to chill and hear good music.
Cool bar with amazing live music and nice cocktails!Nevertheless i regret that we had to order twice to be allowed to stay at our table and keep enjoying the music..
There is no place like groove. What a band.Always a great experience.Best happy hour ever.Very lively. You got to go. Youll enjoy it.
This place would be great if they moved the tables to the perimeter for dancing after 9pm.
Great food and music. The outdoor dinning setup was nice
Groove offers good vibes and decent drinks, making it a suitable spot for grabbing a drink. The atmosphere is lively.
The best spot for live soul music. The Black Soul Experience is the best band Ive seen.
Came here for a nightcap and caught the end half of a live vocal show. The bartenders are friendly and the drinks reasonably priced; you can even have a quiet conversation without yelling over the music.
I had an awesome time here the live music was great the atmosphere was awesome 👌🏾 the drinks are kinda weak for me but the Buffalo wings was good.
Found it at last minute. Welcoming!
Trash, $20 a drink and server and bartenders need to figure it out. Don’t waste your time. Plenty of other good places to go
This use to be my hot spot, I had return here to see how it was now and I must say I was disappointed, the service was crappy, the bartender took forever to get us our drink even though we were right next to her, she act like as if we werent even there, and the tables and chairs felt like as if they were about to fall part, we were scared to even sit cause the seating were so loose and swaying side to side. I use to love this place and at one time it had great bartenders but now it just a regular pub to me, they still have live band but the atmosphere is not there anymore, great bar tending no longer exist in this place. Such a shame.
Turned away for wearing a tank top during a heat advisory. Meanwhile, the staff were wearing spaghetti straps. Arbitrary, old school, anti-Black rules.
One of my favorite hang outs. Great R&B house band, good food, great service and the staff is friendly! A quaint and vibrant local bar...
Not properly maintained and the manager isn’t a very nice person either. So stingy on the drinks they’re practically virgin!!
Great bands and nice crowd.
Cool place to have fun.
It was an excellent experience as the intention was to go to Cafe Wha where I had been couple of times, however being labour day Cafe Wha was closed and discovered this place with awesome music on the Monday. Not sure about other days. Excellent service warm and friendly staff and great happy hours.
Great Bands !But as a venue I didnt like it.Security pounces on you like you stole something or like youre 14 at principals office.I didnt like it, and my friend didnt like it, at all.
Live music, great people and the band on Mondays is the bomb. Along with the host Cheryl Pepsii Riley. I sang this Monday and the crowd was awesome.
Extremely rude bouncer and waitress. Had such a bad attitude, will spread the word to never let anyone go there, horrible service.
Highly sensational New York jazz vibes!!!
Went back for live music & the first band (Purple Gravy) was excellent! Second band was Melaner. The lead female singer took a nice tip & didnt even play the song I requested 😑!!Still a nice spot-get there early and grab a seat and enjoy the show!
The Band was awesome. The food and drinks were great as well. Nice Vibe!!
Had a great experience at this place friendl service everyone was having a great time we recommend everyone to go the food was good that drinks was good not expensive at all
Tremendously powerful live musical experience to get you into the Groove.Friendly, exciting crowd and staff that brings it all together for perfect synergy. And the drinks are kickin it too.Bring your best moves and groove on down.Always Love 💜😎💜Do Like 👍👍👍👍👍
Cool place! Fair prices on food and drinks but the entertainment I find here is awesome!! Always a go to for a first date kind of place for me.
One of my favourite spots in NYC! No, it’s my Soul Spot!
Great sound and nice venue with food drink and solid live music. Good combo!
$10 cover and expensive drinks. DJ Spotify... go somewhere else.
This place fell off! Drinks are terrible the service is even worse and everything over priced based on that! FIND SOMEPLACE ELSE TO GO!
Loved the live band! I had some time while I was waiting for a comedy show to start so I stopped by. The doorman told me that he could let me in for half an hour only because they had a sold out show after that. Im so happy he did. Jose Lopez & Chosen Style were playing electric guitar. Guests were enjoying themselves. Everyone was happy. This was my first time here and I discovered a new venue and a new band. Win-win.Thank you!
First time I went there, in happy hour, they charged normal price. I had to ask 3 times to charge happy hour price for them to change, as they changed 1 item at a time and were annoyed we dared ask for a correction. 2nd time I went there, they overcharged a cocktail (not mockail) because we agreed for rhum in a monitor, as alcohol was not included in the price. 3rd time was ok. 4th time, we were a group. We left earlier with my gf and paid for our drinks and food. But they still charged it to the others. So they stole a total of $100. Obviously, after the 2nd time, I did not decide to go there but just joined friends. Just dont go there as they are from far the most dishonest people of Manhattan. There are so many other beautiful places, just dont lose your time there.
Discovered this place a few weeks back with my bestfriend. They happy hour is amazing from the food to the drinks and they play great music.
Excellent house band...I mean EXCELLENT! Spendy two drink minimum and a strange club layout, but all in all lots of fun.
Great live salsa and jazz music on Sundays!!!
I almost had a good time. However, I am black. So that cant be expected, even at a Black Soul event.
Great band, expensive food and drink, food was just ok, drinks were good, venue was absurdly packed. Make a reservation and arrive early.
A little small but they had great live music bands. Drinks and finger food were pricey for no reason at all.
Great happy hour with pizza and beer plus a full bar. Great live music R&B, funk and classic jams on the two random visits I made. Frozen drinks are tasty and strong. Service is great.
I loved the music, the food and the vibe!
Groove was amazing place. Their band was awesome. I went there 2 times.
Nice little cozy spot for couples, date nights or even just chill/meet&greet at the bar...where you can enjoy some good food while grooving to live music.
I loved the place, is really nice. Tables are really close one to other so if you are looking for privacy, maybe this is not the place, even though I noticed there were couples having fun. I went with my sister on a Friday almost at 7pm and there was available tables, however two hours later there was a huge line outside to get in. To order food and drinks, they hold your credit card until you ask for the bill and pay (my sister is from Canada and I am from Argentina, and this was really new for us, and therefore uncomfortable), the service was OK but could be better..
Great little place with some cool shows. Get a table quick because it packs up. Had a great time!
The live music was very good. First time visiting New York. This city owes me nothing. Ive had a WONDERFUL time.
$18 for a well drink (with gratuity included). Glad a place has music, but not a place for the thirsty.
Cool bar in the Village. Live music and quick drink service. Usually crowded so plan accordingly. Recommend.
Great live music, good cocktails and good location. No happy hour on Sundays btw.
Love this place ! i enjoy ever moment being there in that environment. Warm, cozy venue + Staff is amazing !
