What began as a casual New England-inspired fish shack in Manhattan’s East Village has evolved into a stylish American seafood brasserie, known for its warm hospitality and bold, seasonally inspired dishes.Walking into The Mermaid Oyster Bar feels like a mini escape into an inviting ambiance that is warm, relaxed, yet refined. The menu, featuring classic seafood dishes with inventive twists, reflects the freshest seasonal ingredients. Whether you’re savoring oysters from the raw bar or diving into a lobster roll, each dish captures the essence of seaside dining with a touch of New York sophistication. We stopped by for Happy Hour, which runs from 4pm to 6pm. We ordered the shrimp and avocado sliders, fish tacos, clam chowder, and lobster Mac and Cheese. Everything was absolutely delicious. At the end of the meal came complementary chocolate dessert which was a much appreciated gesture.Every detail, from the food, to the attentive service, and the decor, has been thoughtfully crafted to create a comfortable and memorable dining experience. For anyone seeking a taste of the coast in the heart of the city, Mermaid Oyster Bar offers a refreshing, laid-back retreat.
We ordered the Great Grand Seafood Platter ($99) and were not happy with the size of the oysters and the quality of the food. We wouldn’t order that platter again.
Wonderful ambiance and delectable food! We arrived a bit ahead of our reservation time, and they graciously accommodated us at the bar, which turned out to be an ideal spot.We indulged in fresh oysters and delightful drinks. Unfortunately, we missed the happy hour specials, but were definitely aiming for it next time. The oysters were exceptional - a definite must-have that we plan to enjoy again. Delicious! The service was commendable, and the atmosphere was inviting and cozy - perfect for a relaxed hangout. Were excited to return and explore more of their culinary offerings! The bartender added to the experience with his great sense of humor!
I was so sad when Mermaid Inn closed in the east village but am so happy to see this one open! First they have a great happy hour food and drinks weekly and on a weekend! This restaurant is modern chic. I just thought the actual bar could have been little bigger. The host, bartenders, servers and the manager were all super awesome! The drinks and food so good! I’ll be making this spot my regular spot!
Left very happy. 18 oysters, shishito peppers, salmon tartare, roasted cauliflower, glass of wine during happy hour. All delicious and we really enjoyed sitting at the bar - Antonio took great care of us
Delicious food and great service. Came in on Friday and were sitting outside when the huge rain storm hit, they moved us inside. Highly recommend the seared calamari salad, the fries are good but eat them quickly because they get hard when they get cold
MERMAID OYSTER BARGREENWICH VILLAGE - Perfect for a nice warm summer evening happy hour in West Village! The environment is beautiful, coastal vibe surroundings, warmly lit (candles) restaurant, crowd is mostly locals and friendly, quiet enough so you can actually hear your friend talking. THE PINK FLAMINGO was my favorite cocktail, with gin, strawberry, basil, lemon! Refreshing! The HAPPY HOUR: CHEFS CHOICE OYSTERS & LITTLE NECK CLAMS, MINI NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER was so delicious, SPINACH & ARTICHOKE DIP was too good, GRILLED SHRIMP & AVOCADO SLIDERs great tasting too, followed by SUNDAY - BLUE PLATE SPECIAL (LOBSTER ROLL) - not too bad, and complimentary dessert!
I came here for a double date on a Friday. The restaurant is in the NYU area, so excellent location. It’s very spacious and the atmosphere is great. We ordered the lobster Mac & cheese and fried calamari to start. I ordered the fried oysters and Old Bay fries for my meal, and 2 people got the lobster fra diavola for their main. The oysters were meh and the fries barely had any seasoning on them. Both of the people who got the fra diavola thought it was just ok and that it had way too much pasta in it. The lobster Mac & cheese was probably the highlight of the entire meal for me. It had a smoky flavor to it, which was nice, but like the rest of the meal, was otherwise not noteworthy. I also ordered a mezcal negroni and it was fine.Overall, I think this place is just OK, but the service is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. I’m not dying to come back.
The seafood here is wonderful. Highly recommend getting the Yellowtail Ceviche, East Coast Oysters, and Rose Lychee Martini!
10/10 vibes for happy hour. the oysters were fresh and the biggest surprise is their fried calimari is amazing!! normally ppl either put too much breading or deep fry it to the point it’s so greasy but these struck the right balance of being lightly breaded and appropriately fried. perfect for that summer post work HH
Dont hate. Shell-ebrate! Yummy oysters, roasted peppers, and cocktails! With a reservation on a Friday afternoon, my group of 3 shared and enjoyed several happy hour apps and drinks. I like my drinks a little spicy and my briny Hot & Dirty martini (mer-tini) perfectly fit the bill with vodka, olive juice, peppadew, and hot sauce. The Fried Calamari, Mini New England Clam Chowder, and Salmon Tartare were okay to pretty good but the Oysters and roasted Shishito Peppers dusted with sea salt and candied lemon were delish! After all this, we were full but our server kindly gave each of us a complementary chocolate mousse. Overall, a great spot to get your vitamin sea!NOTES/TIPS:**Excellent service.**If no reservations are available online, try calling.**We arrived 10 minutes early and the entire place was empty except for one table, but they wouldnt let us in until our exact reservation time.**On the corner of MacDougal and Bleecker St.**Wheelchair-accessible.
We loved this place. You HAVE to get the Lobster Knuckles. They were so outstanding we got two orders. Everything was so good and service was great. Would recommend this place to anyone in the area. Tuna hand rolls were great. We got the yellowtail ceviche which was also delicious. Lobster roll came with loads of fries and had a perfect amount of Mayo. Not too much but just enough. Go here now!
Went here for Happy Hour! Really fun place to hangout with friends! $9 wines in the city, pretty good. Love the kale Caesar salad and their mini fish tacos, delish!
Happy hour Price was great for oysters, service was fast/friendly, really cool atmosphere. I like the quotes on the outdoor area
Me and my friend wait for a hour and half to be seated at this restaurant and it was a disappointment. We went there for the oysters but is it worth the wait at all, the oysters was only decent while the rest of the food was good but for the price I’m paying, the portion of the food is small as hell.
I think the beer tap lines here need cleaning. Ive been here twice in the past six months and both times the pilsner beer had a skunky taste to it. The beer itself is good, but the tap lines are giving it a bad taste. Not sure I will return. Too bad because the oysters and atmosphere here are super
Came for happy hour. $1.5 for each oyster and clam! Such a great deal! We did found a piece of paper in one of the oysters. Cocktails and beer are just average though. Love their birthday chocolate pudding ^
This lobster roll was fantastic! I was traveling for work, so unfortunately my husband wasn’t with me, but I’ll say that we have been influenced by Old Bay on French fries after this restaurant. Can’t wait to go back and eat oysters when I’m not pregnant anymore because those looked great too!
A very cozy and chill oyster bar there which they provide happy hour from 5 to 7pm everyday and 5pm till late on Mondays for 1 dollar selected oyster and calm which is very fresh and yummy. For sure it is a nice price to bring your best friends to chill there. Besides, deep fried calamari and sliders there are excellent too and it charged only 5 or 6 bucks during happy hour. After years, price increased, oyster became 1.25 dollars n snacks mostly are from 8 dollars now, but satisfaction after dining there is still great.
Fantastic happy hour! oysters and tacos were delicious, the shishito peppers were big and probably my favorite i’ve gotten in the city, & the clam chowder had a lot of clams which was great. the cocktails were wonderful as well, can’t beat that price too! also loved that they gave us complimentary chocolate puddings at the end. can’t believe we waited this long to go, we will definitely be back.
Great atmosphere, excellent waitstaff, would have given 5 stars on food but the Oysters were very, very small, which was surprised since it’s advertised as an “Oyster Bar”. Overall we enjoyed our time and meal there.
We are regulars and love this restaurant. The food is delicious, freshest oysters and clams for best price in the city. Jason and his staff are the greatest. Will be there right after Thanksgiving, only because we’re going away before.
We ordered the grand tower or something like that, they brought it to us missing 3 oysters and gave us an extra one for the mistake ... the clams werent that good, but ok, the tartare dish that has avocado I think wasnt good, it was missing something. The rest was good... during service the waiter knocked over a bottle of sauce from a table next to us and spilled some of the sauce on my companions shirt and sweater and the waitress only gave us a drink for the inconvenience.
Lively atmosphere in a trendy space. Great raw bar options even during happy hour. Food and drink specials.Very quick and friendly service. Complimentary chocolate pudding dessert arrived, a pleasant surprise. Will make a return visit.
Excellent Oyster bar, with decent wines on the glass and varied fish dishes. Atmosphere great, good music, friendly staff. Go!Also, kale sallad here was a perfect 10/10 sallad.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was tasty (the mini fish tacos are delicious def mini tho). Overall its just nice to visit a place where people enjoy their jobs!! I also went during happy hour 😁
Devoured every bite, it was all delicious. I forgot to take pictures of the oysters and sea bass which were just as good. The chocolate puddings were complementary which was so sweet! Well definitely be back again.
Go here and get oysters. It’s in the name.Superb and fresh oysters. Amazing service. Good drinks. And, a little cup of chocolate pudding as a meal cap!? Don’t mind if I do, thank you.
Cool atmosphere with great service. Tried multiple items on the menu and all were delicious. Lobster Roll was my favorite along with the shrimp and avocado slider!
Managed to get a walk in table when in the area. More of a beach, coastal vibe than the typical bleeker street restaurants but fantastic seafood and wine.
Wonderful Happy Hour menu options! You should definitely order oysters and salmon tartare.Nice variety of oysters on a regular menu.Very happy I discovered this place. Will be back for sure!
Lovely place at the corner of Macdougal and Bleecker.Nice oysters and wine. The spicy tuna tacos were okay at best.I will return for sure.
$1.50 happy hour oysters until 6:30. Attentive service even when it was completely packed. Complimentary dessert is a nice touch!
Great happy hour at this place, especially for the oysters. We really had to refrain from eating more than a dozen each! The service was generally friendly. This location is pretty busy and tight on space so best to come early. We look forward to trying the UWS location which is closer to us.
Love this place, have been coming here for years. Their menu during happy hour is amazing and those shrimp sliders I could live off of.
Their happy hour certainly makes me happy! $1.5 per oyster $1.5 per little clam (with minimum order of six units of oyster/little clam) so I sure ate my fill. Had their octopus little plate, recommended by their bar tender. It was tender and honestly serves as a great light dinner but is totally shareable as an appetizer if you’re dining with others.Their salmon tartar at happy hour is good but as I worked through it, I found it kind of salty… even if the bread crisps go well with it.Service was amazing and it was the perfect place to chill and eat during happy hour. (Good for going alone or with company) I love that they give you a free small chocolate pudding at the end of the meal.I did not order the mini clam chowder at happy hour because it was the same size if not smaller than an espresso cup.
Much of the food was just mediocre and very average. A few dishes were more on the bad side. Fishy lobster Mac and Cheese. Linguine and clam sauce had no flavor. Shrimp tempura appetizer was dry. Don’t know how it got so many excellent reviews. I’m befuddled.
A little taste of the beach in the Village. Fresh seafood with a great atmosphere. The service was friendly and really attentive. The Lobster Roll blue plate special was a bargain for NYC prices. So many great restaurants in the city, this one is worth the visit
Went in on a Friday night without a reservation. Thankfully they were able to accommodate us! We ordered the chowder, shishito peppers, and kale Caesar to start. We had the Friday lobster past special and the steak. Everything was delicious!! The chowder and steak were special standouts. Will return.
Happy Hour calamari: solid portion, batter pretty bland but calamari was nice and tenderHappy Hour clam chowder: delicious but TINY, literally the size of a shot glass, not exaggerating. I think it was only $3.75 but not worth even that. Better off getting the full size unless you want just a taste.
The service was phenomenal, if I could give that category a 6/5 I would. They were very friendly and catered to our dietary restrictions. The oysters and crab cake were very fresh and delicious. The dill flavour was something else. The lobster roll on the other hand - and the only reason why I’m not making this a 5 star review- was but not great, the portion of lobster was minimal, and the bread it was on was dry. The fries were too crunchy and didn’t seem fresh.Otherwise it was a descent meal, with great service.
Great branzini and calamari salad
Great staff, lovely place to sit at the bar for happy hour!! Great ambiance, Antonio is lovely.
Conveniently located in Soho and also close to Hudson Square. Good atmosphere and vibe. We ordered 3 dozens oysters, 4 shrimp sliders, 2 fish tacos, spinach and artichoke dip, along with 2 cocktails and 2 glasses of wines. Everything was great. The oysters were very fresh, sliders and dip were delicious. Fish tacos slightly plain, but not bad either. Service was great. Last but not least, the happy hour pricing was great!
Just went here this Sunday and I have to say, this is one of the hidden gems of NY. First of all, this place has one of the best happy hours in the area. Secondly, the service is impeccable and the oysters were amazing. I highly recommend this place and plan to return next time I’m in NY.
Go early to avoid waiting . We can for happy hour oysters. Very happy
Very cute NY neighborhood restaurant, great happy hour menu with delicious oysters.
Cute little place. Went there for happy hours
The Po Boy sandwich is delicious. Friends wanted an oyster 🦪 restaurant. This is a good place for it. Other entree options left a little wanting. But the po boy sandwich was top bar. Good service. Good ambiance. Good village go-to. Cocktails are alright too. The lobster roll was overflowing with fries more than lobster. Wouldn’t recommend that dish.
I love oysters and seafood and that’s the place to be especially for happy hour $1.50 a piece. We also got spinach and artichoke dip taste good very little size but guess it’s good for price just crackers they should go a little bit heavier just not enough even for that small portion. Special New England clam chowder it says min but I didn’t think it’s actually just a tablespoon. Server was very attentive and fast that’s always a plus.
I feel like this is such an unpopular opinion, but my therapist says I need to be more vulnerable so I really want yall to see me:I normally dont like making reservations because its such a commitment. I have to be at this exact place at this exact time on this exact date? What if I dont want oysters in 10 days? What if future me wants tapas? What if he wants Thai food? What if someone commissions him to write a novel next week and he needs to go to Japan for inspiration? This issue is especially highlighted in New York, as you have to make a res 10 days in advance for seemingly everything...All this to say, walking into Mermaid Oyster Bar with the res I made 9 days in advance to make their happy hour on a Friday had me feeling like a BOSS. Getting walked to our 4 top for 2 of us as the hostess removed the reserved plaque had me feeling like Frank Lucas. All these people fighting tooth and nail for a tiny stool at the bar to get in on the happy hour had me thinking why didnt you dorks just make a res........I was sitting there ordering 18 oysters ($1.50 each), 4 mini tacos ($3 each), and $10 cocktails feeling like El Chapo if he was chilling in a beautiful seaside village in New England.... well El Chapo is probably not hitting happy hours to save money nor is he in New England but yall get me.Mermaid Oyster Bar was fantastic, I been telling everyone about it since. I havent seen any place like it in the city. I felt like I was in a cute little fishing village hehehehe. This experience has me beginning to understand the appeal of far out reservations more and more, but still feel how I feel. I like to stay flowy. Like water. THANK YOU MERMAID OYSTER BAR ILL SEE YALL SOON! PROBABLY FOR A BAR SEAT THOUGH IM NGL!IG @jnov_Tiktok @jnov_reviews
Great food and drinks, but teeny tiny portions and pretty high prices.
Loved this place! Amazing oysters, tacos and rolls. Fresh and fantastic.
Great oyster place. I loved their fish tacos and complimentary desert!
Came here for dinner on a Friday night and the place was at full capacity. You definitely need a reservation. The food and service were great. We got oysters, the calamari salad and the sea bass. I recommend all three. Lastly, we got complementary chocolate pudding at the end and even though I wasn’t intending to eat anything sweet that night, I finished the whole thing 😅 overall, great experience here. I will be back!
The place is super cute but not my favorite oysters in the happy hour oyster game! The sauces are basic but the oysters were fine. The drink I ordered (hot n dirty) tasted like watered down saltwater mixed with cayenne pepper. Servers were lovely and the sliders are awesome. Free pudding is cute too :)
Cute place for oysters and a nice happy hour. To note, all of the happy hour items are super small portions…. Delicious clam chowder in a tiny cup. It was very nice they brought out a tiny pudding cup at the end for a small dessert
I came here to eat while I was on vacation, and then moved about two blocks away. Mermaid has a place not only in my heart, but officially in my weekly food budget 💜💜💜 diehard fanDon’t miss the clams, the shrimp sliders, or the shishito peppers. It’s all pretty spectacular.
The outdoor seating was beautiful, the happy hour oysters were a great deal and delicious, but the server and host was not very welcoming. I felt that one they realized only 1 of us was going to order a drink the attentiveness just went out the window. I am not too beat up over it though, I got what I came for; a quick bite and 1 drink. The oyster were fresh and delicious, no arguments there. If you want to get in and get out quick for oysters, get over here!
I have had better shrimp from Costco… nice brussel sprouts though
Free dessert! Nice service by the bar and I loved the goose point oysters!!
Good quality of food and wonderful atmosphere
Great Time! Fab Food! Good Cocktails! Fun Conversation w Bar Crowd! Friendly Atmosphere!
Had dinner here but tragically forgot to take pictures of everything, their tuna crudo was fine but not a must-order, their shaved kale salad however was fabulous and should not be missed. I remembered to photograph our mains- my father enjoyed the Thursday special of linguini and clams and my jumbo shrimp skewer with jalapeño cornbread was an absolute delight. The beachy interior is pretty fun and the counter seats were good for people-watching. Theres also a large photograph of John and Jackie Kennedy hanging downstairs for some reason, that might be a sell, I dont know. Also, complementary chocolate pudding pots! Overall its a neat spot, Id recommend branching out menu-wise more than we did. The fish tacos and rolls we saw other people enjoying made us jealous. But its a nice place, we had a good time.
Came for the oyster happy hour, we got drinks, and other non happy hour food… the food and service were phenomenal. If you are in the neighborhood it is a must visit, if you are looking for seafood or oysters!
The food, service and value were 10/10. I went on a Monday, which the restaurant honors their happy hour deals for select food (including $1.50 oysters, clams, clam chowder, tuna tartare, shrimp slider, and artichoke dip, among others) and drinks for dinner until close. It was a great deal while food quality was on point. Keep in mind that happy hour food potions are small. They also have their regular dinner menu. However, totally recommend to take advantage of their til close happy hour on Mondays.
All is good,Oyster is so good, we had hours salad lobster roll and cream with pasta. Enjoy the day sitting outside on Father’s Day.
Happy hour oysters, shishito peppers, sparkling energy all around. Antonio at the bar was warm and friendly, cracking jokes and mixing great drinks. A new favorite spot for sure.
4.3/5Good ambiance and food! We arrived earlier than our reservation so they sat us at the bar, which was perfect. We ordered the Lobster Fritters, Littleneck Clams, Old Bay Fries, Grilled Octopus Salad, and the Wedge Salad. Our favourite was the grilled octopus as it was very flavourful and cooked perfectly. We’d order this again. Yum!The other dishes were nothing special. The fritters didn’t taste much like lobster and were a bit doughy. The clams, fries, and wedge salad were what you would find anywhere else. The service was good and it was a cozy place to hang out. We’d return to try some of their other dishes!
Excellent every time!! Go early for the oyster and clam specialand delicious early menu! Dont miss the shrimp sliders!
Happy hour and food definitely not what it used to be here. Loved the oysters when coming here, and it just didn’t do it for us this time. Although the service is good, it is super rushed regardless if you have a reservation. They’ll tell you that you have so long to sit down, then have the servers in your face the whole time to make you feel like you need to order something else when you’re not even finished with what you have in front of you. It is obvious that they’re just trying to turn and burn tables here. Unfortunately will be the last time I visit this establishment.
Excellent experience! The staff were exceptional, food was delicious and vibe was popping. Showed up without reservations on a busy Friday night and the host and hostess were very kind and accommodating. Thank you for a wonderful time!
The manager Jason & the lovely hostess Yvonne are just incredible- they’re the kind of people that you’re grateful to have in your community! Atmosphere, aesthetics & menu are superb as well. 10/10 & highly recommended!
Great happy hr! 1.25 oysters and $9 cocktails. Didn’t need a rsvp And only had to wait a few minutes
First time here, amazing. We had a reservation and the wait was longer than expected so they brought us complimentary drinks. The appetizers came out very fast. We got 9 oysters, the lobster, and the kale salad. All delicious. For entrees we got the tuna, pasta, and tacos. Again, delicious. Loved the mouse at the end as well. The waiter and staff were all so lovely and very attentive!
Nice Happy Hour place, in Manhattan, with good specials, just can get crowded
The best food Ive had in New York! Outstanding service.
Get there for the HH menu before 7 and try it all!!!! The lobster Rolls were some of the best Ive had. There isnt a bad choice on the entire menu!
Had a crab cake appetizer along with Shishito peppers as an appetizer. The lobster roll as entree. The presentation was welldesigned and flavorful. A complimentary dessert. The service was on point. the only complaint was no coffee was available.
Very good food, absolutely exemplary service. Really made my partner and I feel special on our anniversary.
Great place for fresh oysters at West Village... recommended
My friend and I went for their oyster happy hour, and it was packed! I’m glad we were able to grab a reservation before the whole restaurant filled up! Happy Hour oysters were very reasonably priced, at $1.50 each, or $15 for a dozen. I wish their HH cocktail selection had more than four choices though, they were a bit strong for my friend and my tastes. Otherwise, cute restaurant with good atmosphere! Will be back with more friends for sure
Best oysters I ever had!!
Came here during Happy Hour and it was great! Oysters were only $1 each and the service was great!
2023:The food was good
We love the oyster happy hour. The apps are all very good. Never had a full meal - only small bites, on 4 different occasions. Nice vibe. Helpful staff. I recommend for small groups as it can get tight.
We had a party of 8 and they handled us extremely well! The food was good, our service was great ! They kept the drinks coming . The fish and chips were fantastic… a cool place
We went here for happy hour and got a table in the back. It was much quieter than the main room which made for a better date night. My husband had oysters, I had some dip, both were very yummy. They had a good happy hour drink selection to cover all tastes but I also appreciated the drink specials rotated. They also added a few non menu specials so there were lots of options.
The manager was very kind to seat us in 5 mins before the kitchen closed. The staff was very nice and the food is good and tasteful. At the end, we had a complimentary dessert.
We went for the oyster happy hour, so it was crowded. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The oysters were amazing. The fried calamari sauce was a little salty, but everything tasted good. I am not usually big on spinach dip, but I liked this one with crab. It was a great meal with friendly and helpful staff.
Good Chefs’ oyster choice, amazing service and the food
Great oyster selection. All day happy hour Monday.
Fresh, high quality seafood in an intimate environment. The oysters were delicious. The lobster served escargot style was unique and extremely flavorful. The service was attentive and drinks were strong. If you can swing by for happy hour, they have great specials.
Incredible experience. Unless you are going alone, Id recommend a reservation. Its a quaint yet elegant cozy spot, with some of the freshest, tastiest seafood Ive ever had. I cant recommend their happy hour items highly enough. The bartender was warm and pleasant, the service was surprisingly quick, the prices were reasonable, and my meal ended with a fortune telling fish. I will most definitely be back.
I visited Mermaid Oyster Bar and tried their happy hour oysters, which cost $1.5 each (minimum 6 per order). They were neither the best nor the worst oysters Ive had, just average but satisfied my craving.I also ordered the baby clam chowder, but I found the portion to be extremely small, and it leaned on the salty side. Also got the calamari and the prawn sliders which were both alright. The next time I go back, Ill probably just get oysters. On a positive note, the service was quite good and attentive, which added to the overall experience.
I not only had great cocktails and oysters, I had amazing service all around. From host to table to service, I was very pleased. Freddie is a doll and made my experience exceptional. Can’t wait to visit when I’m in the city again!
For years this place has not disappointed. The service / ambiance is great. The oysters are always fresh as well as everything else on the menu. The lobster knuckles are delicious as well as the fish tacos. Also there was complementary chocolate pudding, Thank you!
The lobster roll here is so good. Very flavourful and satisfying! The fries are also very nice. The ambience is great and their dishes are pretty innovative. Only downside for me is that they dont have a dessert menu, but they do serve these dark chocolate mousses after dinner that are lovely as well.
I came here for happy hour and stayed for dinner. The food is really good! Fresh oysters were super tasty! It was a really good deal! Like $1.50 per oyster and $1 clams. The mermaid taco was ok. The shell didnt taste like a corn tortilla. It was more like a wonton or dumpling wrapper. I really liked the fried oysters. I ended up ordering more after trying two. The bass was also super tasty. Service was really nice! Our waitress was friendly and very helpful. The host was also warm and welcoming. Would definitely come again!
I had a great experience here. The service was friendly and helpful and the drinks and meal were delicious.
We stumbled on this place by accident as we were wondering why there was a line up for an empty restaurant but they had happy hour deals from 4:30-6:30 everydayThe oysters were super fresh and very brineyAlthough the clam chowder was small because its a special was very goodCalamari was fresh and fried perfectlyThe best thing was the linguine with clams. So good
Good seafood place, the oyster bar has really good selections. The calamari salad and the lobster roll were really good. The staff is really friendly and Jose our waiter helped us a lot with our oyster selection.
Pretty decent oyster place. The happy hour deal is pretty good $1.5 for oyster. Lobster roll comes with old bay fries which I really enjoyed.
I am in love the shape of cocktails. What a delightful cocktail menu and the taste! Absolutely loved it. Being a cocktail lover, I have been to lot of places. Very few places you come across where the cocktails are not diluted and this place is one among them. Being a whiskey lover ordered moon wine and black pearl. Damn, moon wind was smokey due to laphroaig and black pearl was surprising with egg white. Whenever you’re visiting do try this guys, they were my favorite.Looking forward to visit again to try rest of the cocktails on the menu! All the best to the Oyster team and happy Halloween! 😉
Delicious!!!! First time coming here and not only was staff professional, courteous and quick, my meal was 10/10. We ordered the raw seafood tower (amazing) the lobster fritters went crazy, the truffle syrup was soooo different and tasty & last but not least, our drinks were phenomenal. Our server Danielle was the best 💅🏾Will definitely be back and will definitely recommend to others.
They have the best fish tacos!I love this place, the atmosphere is perfect, service is nice and food is awesome. I have been there a few times.Nothing that I have try is disappointing.Oysters are really good, drinks and steak as well.
Oysters. Oysters. Oysters. FREE SIDE WITH CHECK-IN. Oysters.+ Fresh oysters on top of ice and side of lemons and sauce.+ Fancy contemporary design and dim lighting. Romantic for couples, awkward for children.+ Quick service+ Cool fish fortune at the end (youll have to go to know what Im talking about.. or view the pictures on this yelp page) with chocolate pudding.+ Nice bathrooms. Adjustable lighting and fan speed. Lots of fun.- We came without a reservation and the waiter noted we had 1 hour to eat until she kicked us out because another party reserved in advance. She said it in the most sweetest and charming way that I wanted to get kicked out by her.
Absolutely delicious! Family of five,, ordered a ton to share, we had amazing oysters, tuna crudo, lobster escargot, shrimp sliders, fish tacos, calamari and the lobster roll! Everything was so fresh and delicious, will definitely go again!
Great for happy hours! 4.30-6.30pm. Recommend to get a dozen of oysters ($1.5 each) and just get cocktails at Dante which is a 1 min walk away.
This was a great spot for happy hour. They have a fantastic assortment of oysters. The shrimp silders were excellent and my favorite part of my meal. The spinach and artichoke dip was excellent. Its not over creamy and bursting with flavor. The mini fish tacos 🌮 were also excellent.
The Mermaid Oyster Bar is a nice place but I didn’t find it special. The service was very good. Drinks and food were ok but nothing stood out.
Loved the food! I ordered a linguine & clams. I do prefer my linguine with some type of cream based sauce though, so I think that’s the only thing missing. Other than that- loved my meal. The service was also good.FOR OUTDOOR RESERVATIONS- I was freaking freezing. I was quite literally shivering outside and those heat lamps did not a thing for me. Not even my warm drink could assuage my frigid body. :(Perhaps getting some stronger lambs for by peoples feet?Anyway I enjoyed my time! Thanks for having us.
Great food with generous portions! Drinks and food displays are top notch. Taste is excellent! Also, a great spot to sit outside, catch all the neighborhood dogs on their walks!
I celebrated my April birthday here. It was a terrible day outside—wet and cold and awful! But for health reasons I needed to eat outside at one of the heated sidewalk tables. The staff was so accommodating and gracious and they bent over backward for my partner and me. The oysters, wine, and other dishes were fabulous. Thanks for a wonderful birthday,Mermaid Inn!
Come here. Its awesome.
Oyster were amazing and the lobster roll was delicious!
Would really recommend this place for Happy Hour. The Calamari and the oysters were amaizing. Nice vibe in a nice block. I was here winter time, Im definitely coming back for the summer!
Love the atmosphere in this quaint restaurant in the heart of Greenwich Village. Of course I was here for their famous Happy Hour! And happy we were to have barcat oysters (Chesapeake Bay, VA, small, mild brine, slightly sweet) and little neck clams for $1.25 each! Accompanied by a Mermaid Mary (vodka, Bloody Mary mix with a rim of Old Bay and salt seasoning), I felt as if I was dining by the seashore. We also had an average (I make a better one) mini New England clam chowder that was lukewarm. I wasn’t thrilled with the tuna tartare because it had a soy and sesame sauce; the accompanying New York Flatbreads everything bagel topping overpowered the tuna. The highlight was the shrimp and avocado slider - the shrimp was fresh grilled, the roll was buttered and toasted which lent a crunch texture, there could have had more avocado (just a schmear vs slices) but the spicy Cajun/?remoulade sauce was the perfect finishing touch. We were surprised by the complimentary mini chocolate pudding. The biggest issue was we waited 25+ min for our drinks, even after reminding the server. Still a fun seafood happy hour!
Phenomenal experience! Best grilled artichoke I’ve ever had. Lobster roll, service and ambience 5 star. Can’t wait to come back🙂
Happy hour is very worth is. Delicious oysters and the artichoke dip is 10/10
Fresh seafood, cozy village corner. Great.Happy hour selections
Favorite restaurant in NYC now! The oysters were so fresh and meaty, the NY steak was the juiciest NY steak Ive tasted yet, and the butter shrimp tostada was out of this world!Only con was that they were out of limoncello and I couldnt get the drink I wanted on the menu!
Awesome place with $1.25 happy hour oysters! Loved the $1 clams even more. Fantastic place for lobster rolls, and the service is surprisingly really quick. Got a complimentary chocolate mousse too!
Was there for their happy hour. The oysters and clams were fresh and delicious! I had the dark and stormy and my husband had the dirty and spicy. Drinks were excellent! Loved the atmosphere. We say facing out and it was perfect for people watching. The staff was very friendly and my water glass was never empty. Service was impeccable!
Enjoyed everything. They have a great happy hour!!
Raw barLove the Mermaids raw oyster happy hour! I have been here several times now. My best friend and I are huge fans of raw oysters with mignonette sauce! We have tried several varieties of the raw oysters to date and have loved all of them (the bottles of bubbly havent been bad either.)The bar gets super crowded so you have to get there a bit early to get a seat but if you love raw oysters and mignonette sauce, I recommend trying the place.
Cocktails were delicious and creative.
This was definitely one my favourite places I visited for happy hour while we were in nyc. It was pricier than a lot of other places, at $1.50 an oyster and only one type being on the happy hour menu for that price (every other place we went had multiple options for $1). They were great oysters though, and the fried ones were absolutely delectable. We only got two since they were $3.50 per one! Totally worth it though. The drinks were great and decently priced for happy hour. We got a complimentary chocolate mousse after we ate which was delicious! And also a fun little quip was the “magic fortune telling fish.” You’ll have to experience for yourself to understand what I’m talking about! The atmosphere was quaint and the service was good. I would definitely come back for dinner and try it out again!
We were passing this restaurant and saw people having oysters. So we ended up having 2 dozens of oysters during happy hour.Oysters were $1.50 each during happy hours, 4:30- 6:30pm every day. Also, complimentary chocolate pudding was great. Services are good as well. 👍🏻
Visited on 9th February 2022 for my 50th Birthday. Food was delicious and the service was great! Highly recommend 👌
Great service. Great food. Buttered rolls with sea salt are fantastic. West coast oysters delicious. Lobster “knuckles” also delicious. Nice ambience.
Stop by four oysters before dinner around the corner. Cute little happy hour spot with great tasting oysters. Their drinks were light and refreshing. Their outdoor seats are quite nice as well. Staff was helpful to determine what kind of drink I wanted. Overall a good time!
Great seafood place in the middle of village. Everything was simply delicios.I came here with our friend Dr. Avsholomov that he recommend the place. I was not sure how it will be, but it ends up one of the best places that i had oysters. Each fish that we had was done perfect. Everything so fresh, so tasty that i will rush to come back. The service also was so friendly, so good that my compliments to the staff. And to Jenn. You earn the 5 stars.
Even though I’m not an oyster fanatic this once indeed a good oyster place to relax and chill with friends having some drinks.
Love this place! Oysters are nice and fresh and the drinks are amazing. Btw mondays they have happy hour all day!
Loved everything about this place: the interior, food and staff! 😋
Very nice service and atmosphere, food was very mediocre. The raw oysters had little to no flavors, the linguine and clams pasta had a few clams that tasted funky. The drinks (margarita and pink flamingo) was pretty good tho.
Good spot for happy hour, though it can get crowded at the bar. We had seats in the mid-section, and enjoyed hh oysters, clams, tacos, etc. its can be a fairly noisy place, and the locals hate that. they complained to every table that seem to laugh too loud or speak above whisper.
One of my favorite places in the city for oysters! Take advantage of the happy hour deals; cocktails are perfectly designed to go with the oysters, and the small bites and appetizers are also fantastic. Cozy, casual vibe.
Wonderful wonderful place. We went on our first date and again on our anniversary—the happy hour (including oysters) is unbeatable and the servers go just that extra step to make you feel special and welcome. Thank you!
Hands down the best seafood restaurant in Lower Manhattan. Cozy and delicious... served with caring and friendly service. Had oysters, clam chowder, pei mussels, lobsters knuckles, lobster rolls and fish & chips....ALL crazy good!
Nice staff, a touch too loud. Oysters were good, tuna tartare was good, the sea bass was good, however fish and chips was poorly executed - plating was messy, not enough fish and they served string fries with it. The name itself calls for (chunky) chips. This place is definitely good for the raw bar.
Great lobster roll. Big portions. The staff was very nice and even made a cocktail that wasn’t on the menu.
Love this place! Great service and amazing oysters. Restaurant is really cute and intimate.
Cute Village oyster option. Come early for a spot at the bar for their great oyster happy hour specials. Selection is varied - theyre even nice and helpful to an oyster newbie like yours truly. Also recommend their lobster roll - solid, flavorful, and not uber mayo-y.
Nice place, friendly and great staff. We stopped by for the happy hour and had a great time.
This spot reminded me of a beach cabin, it had very relaxing colors. Definitely had the seafood beach vibes like montauk. Wonderful service by the bartender who was also funny. Great spot for seafood (recommend the lobster escargot!)
Great food, ambiance, and happy hour. Staff makes sure you stay happy your entire visit. Definitely go when you can get dollar oysters.
Always come here for oyster happy hour when were in NYC. Great place, not too touristy, good service and great atmosphere
Disappointing food quality.Fish tacos had no flavorOysters were not super cold and crisp as they should be.NO DESSERT MENU !?????
This was one of my favorite places to eat on my trip, lovely atmosphere and fantastic food!!
Perfect for the West Village. Dined outdoors. Very friendly and attentive staff. Fantastic food. Great people watching.
Spectacular ambiance of the establishment. Had a big birthday dinner and our server was very kind. 10/10 food, the salmon and tuna was superb.
Went for happy hour, but also got an entree. Oysters were delicious and only $1.25 on happy hour. My husband and I split that, the lobster knuckles (prepared like escargot, delicious!), Mini fish tacos (fried wonton wrappers shaped like taco shells, very tasty!), And we got the striped bass with a lemon caper butter that was so good! We also asked our server for dessert options in the area and she brought us recommendations, but also a little pot du creme to end our meal. All staff members were very nice from the gentlemen manning the door, our server and all the server assistants that brought us food or cleared our plates. Very glad we chose to dine here!
If you want a real genuine New York experience this is the spot !Excellent food and drinksStaff is on pointAtmosphere is lively and unique. This is the kind of spot you want to visit twice.
Great find in the village. Happy hour oysters and appetizers were great. So were the main courses. Exemplary service as well.
Mermaid Oyster Bar is a cozy and friendly place. We had 2 types of oysters, one from RI and one from MA, they were delicious, as were the sauces with which they were served. The special was a friend shrimp Poboy which was perfect.
Food and drinks were great but my favorite thing about this place was the amazing service they had
Happy hour is great, you’d have to make a reservation or get there early to get a seat especially on a Friday. they’ve got a few oyster selections, the pink flamingo drink was good! they even gave us complimentary chocolate pudding after.
Thats the best place to have oysters!06/06 (my birthday) my husband and I were there. It was Happy hour.We ordered 4 plates with 18 oyster on each one after another.I could get more! But my husband stopped me!That place is must to go!
We enjoyed some delicious oysters and fish tacos. reservation suggested!
Lovely spot and the happy hour oysters are the icing on the cake.
Literally perfect. Food is fairly priced, quality is incredible, service is great, drinks are good, ambience is relaxed and classy.
This place has some of the freshest oysters ever. Loved every second of it. Service was on point and fast. Recommend to everyone. Also need to try the blue crab tostada. Sooo good.
Excellent happy hour with $1.25 oysters. Great bartender and ambiance. Small, cozy and intimate. Lovely neighborhood. Great menu.
Amazing oyster restaurant- both for seafood and beyond. Great service and good atmosphere. Some of the best oysters I’ve had.
Awesome place. Get the lobster roll.
Their larger restaurants are better for groups, but for a happy hour or quick bite this oyster bar is great. The location is central and the restaurant serves all the best Mermaid Inn highlights from their other menus.
Nice place to have a dinner! We also ordered salad with calamari which was good! And an octopus salad 🐙 we order cod and bass, one of the dishes had a terrible sauce, tasted like a mayonnaise 😄
Surprisingly great quality seafood, we will come for more.
My partner and I love oysters so we came here. Oysters were good. The rest of the food was....ok. But the service is the reason we will NOT come back. Incredibly slow.
Easily some of the best oysters I’ve had in the city, paired well with some white wine the server recommended. Would 100% come to this place
The food was so fresh and delicious. I can see why its so busy in there. They had great beer and quick service. I will definitely make a trip back when im in the area.
Oysters are awesome. The fried items are still very good but not as excellent as I remember.
Ive been a regular at this place for over 2 years. But this was my last visit. When I called to make a reservation a hostess named Rosie told me that I wont need a reservation for 1 person for today, that I should just walk in. When I came hostess asked if i had a reservation, I said what I was told earlier and that I will wait here (by the hostess) she told me I could check with a bar in case if i wanted to be seated there, I said I will wait for a table. I WAITED FOR 1,5 HOUR RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE HOSTESS, without leaving anywhere. After 1,5 hour I asked her how much more, all she relied Oh, you didnt give me your name!!! Are you kidding me?!?! Ive been standing there the whole time! All she said Its going to be another 1,5-2 hours!! All this time I went there, I havent spent anything less than $100 just on myself. I guess I will be spending that money elsewhere. Where they can actually see a patron standing right in front of you!
Very nice place to get oysters and other seafood. Daily happy hour for oysters and drinks - definitely worth a visit!
I love this place. Reliable, great service and great oysters.
So good! Everything is so fresh and delicious. I especially loved the happy hour prices. I highly recommend it.
Happy hour here is fantastic. Bites sized portions of popular items let you try it all, oysters and clams are fresh and waiters are on point.
Me and my friend got food poisoning eating their oysters this past thursday. We were both vomiting by Friday.
Love it strictly for oyster happy hour.
Solid option, especially for such a touristy neighborhood
Great happy hour deal - $8.50 drinks, $1.25 oysters, $1 clams, and other deals on appetizers. Also really good service!
Best oysters in town! Love the daily Happy Hour and gorgeous drinks, service is impeccable and a prime location!
Great food and service, I went with a HS friend he lives in NY he recommended it and it was a blast! Great experience!
The server was a bit obnoxious. Ambiance was beautiful. Don’t get the big oyster. They’re horrible. Didn’t try anything else
Pros: Fresh, tasty food , oysters were superb , fish tacos and tuna yummyCons : drinks were mediocre, service ok, not the greatest , it was very loud and hot (we were sitting outside )
So amazing
Very surprised that we had a plastic in food n hurt my friends gums , only got happy hour drinks taken out of bill!! We have been coming here for 4 yrs first time we had a problem usually have a great time and great service but felt manager was skeptical of our incident!!!
$1 oysters for happy hour - whats not to like?! The mussels were excellent as well and the service was very good.
Legendary happy hour
This place is amazing! The food is delicious. They have amazing small plate options, but also delicious entrees. They have a happy hour menu with both food and great cocktails. And my fav $1 oysters during happy hour. Each meal ends with a complimentary chocolate pudding desert, and a cute fortune teller fish. A MUST TRY RESTAURANT.
Really great oysters for a good price! My sister also loved the free chocolate pudding they give at the end
Ambiance was great, staff friendly and great service . Oysters were excellent. Will definitely go back.
Great seafood!
Pictured here are the Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese, still bubbling in the cast iron skillet; the Market Fish (daily preparation) of striped bass with red bell peppers, Hon Shimeji (White Beech) mushrooms, and charred brussel sprouts with lemon and capers: Fantastically delicious! And, the Montauk Pearl Oyster on ice with mignonette, lemon wedge, and cocktail sauce with freshly shaved horseradish root. Baby, you cant beat this for a Saturday night!
Maybe the best meal I ever had. Amazing oysters and unbelievably tender chicken. Waiter was very attentive. Great dining experience.
Great new location! The new restaurant is beautiful and the food was excellent as always.
Went in for happy hour. Probably should make reservations. Fresh oysters and clams. Enjoyed them very much.
