Food: 4/5Food was great and does capture a lot of Asian flavours. I deducted a star because the food was too spicy and the menu didnt state it would be spicyRecommend: oysters and uni, eel club, pea shoot, black cod clay pot without the spicy soy sauce, cereal shrimp, mango puddingService: 4/5Service was great for the most part, but I had asked the server where the lamb was from and I asked if he could confirm and let me know as that decides whether I would order the lamb or not. He never returned to let me know and I had to ask again. He also didnt let us know the oysters and eel can come in 3 or 4 until we asked him how many it came with. For the prices youre paying at this place, the servers should offer the option when they see the table has 4 people, other restaurants doAtmosphere: 5/5It has 2 stories - upstairs is smaller and more intimate, downstairs is larger and louder therefore feels a bit more casual, but the decor is amount the same. I really liked how they decorated the wall behind the upstairs barPrice: 4/5Most dishes are priced appropriately but you definitely are paying more for the atmosphere than the dishes itself
What an amazing experience we had. The drinks were amazing. The service was on point until the place got crowded. The staff kept a smile on and was still as attentive as possible. The pics don’t do justice to the favor and mazing food. If you like Asian place / definitely come and try. Lastly - I loved the restaurant look. It was so cool and chic.
Came here to celebrate my birthday dinner! lovely ambience and interior. we ordered some dishes: hainanese chicken, duck clay pot, etc to share - which were all delicious! definitely recommend this place for a special celebration :-).
Awesome foods and service! The portions were on a smaller side so we had to order more to share. All we ordered (eel club, duck pie tee, salmon carpaccio, crystal dumpling, and black cod claypot) tasted great!
Came in on a Monday to an empty restaurant. We ordered the Eel Club, Duck Pie Tee, King Prawn, and the Black Cod Clay Pot.I am a bug fan of foie gras, and loved the Eel Club. I didn’t like the flavors of the Duck Pie Tee so much, and thought the King Prawn was a little basic. The Black Cod Clay Pot was delicious, however.
My family was at MOMA and were looking for a place close by and unique. This place checks all the boxes. The food and drinks are awesome. The atmosphere is amazing, but the people made this one of my favorite places. The Maître d’ is Matt and you can see in the photo, he cares. My daughter and he talked food and @simplysoutherncollection turtle tracking bracelets. He gave a great run down of what to order and he was right. Thank you Matt! Our server was Dennis and he was awesome. He never rushed us had awesome recommendations and talked me into trying a signature drink that I had hesitations about. Not a fan of a certain bourbon....he was right the Osaka Old Fashion was great.Assistant server was Arnold and he was also great. Had great suggestions as well and made sure everything was top notch.Imagine a restaurant where the food is amazing and the people are awesome. This is it. Thank you for a delicious and wonderful evening.
Can we give 53 fity-three stars? In a fashion fitting for the MoMA, 53 is litty in the middle of NY City. The vibe is wavy from the moment you walk in to the bar area to the anticipation you feel while descending to the main restaurant floor.Whoever picked the playlist has hacked my Spotify account - and Im not mad about it.Thoroughly pleased from beginning to end.Sesame sour was one of the most unique cocktails and it grew on me from the first sip (hard to put down).Toro tartare with caviar kicked off the first of four courses with a clean salinity to cleanse the palette. Royal shumai took dumpling craft to stratospheric heights. The duck pie tee was a flavor and texture explosion of epic proportions. And the eel club was a three piece tour de force on a plate. Not to mention...the universe smiled on me in the sommelier department: 53 had 2020 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru BY THE GLASS due to a lucky mishap earlier in the day.Gold stars for 53✨✨✨
Excellent cocktails and friendly bartenders. I love sour cocktails and their Silk Road knocked my socks off. The ambience was also stunning and luxurious yet remained intimate and romantic.
My bf and I here for the anniversary and it was fantastic!! My favorite is truffle chicken dumplings! They even gave us a complementary sorbet! Will return!
To begin with, I want to say that the food is very excellent, a flavor that you will love the first time you taste it! And the food arrived on time, the service of the waiters is excellent, there is only something I didnt like very much! And I get too angry; because my brother told me that that was his favorite place to go for dinner; because the food was very good And the selection of drinks was abundant, so I decided to take him for his birthday with our friends, when we arrived the service of the two women who worked in hosting was horrible to begin with they asked with a bad attitude if we had already made the reservation, second I had to ask him if they had any space or locker for the coats and then he only gave us a number without answering yes or no, That wasnt all when we were coming back home we asked for the coats and gave our ticket and one of the women practically threw the coats to my friend and the other woman looked at us very horrible, I assumed that that was a place with a total of professional staff but apparently not everyone is, and my brother was very disappointed because he said that it was his favorite place and I had never been so embarrassed, if I would go with a group of friends I do not recommend a place like this until they can have more professional lodging staff And not only spoiled staff who judge the book by its cover
Instantly up there with one of the best dining experiences of my life. From the vibe of the place to the hospitality of the staff. To the killer cocktails and absolutely gourmet cuisine, this place just shot up in my list of favorites in NYC, maybe the world. Thank you guys for taking such good care of us. Will definitely be back.
The food was delicious, ambience is great, and staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. we went without a reservation and sat at the bar for dinner. will definitely be back!
We wanted to love this place because it is gorgeous and had great service. Hats off to the employees for keeping this place afloat. The food was mediocre at best and tasteless at worst. Crispy squid was the only thing that stood out as great. Other than that we got the salmon carpaccio (just tasted regular nothing special). Duck pie tee is not a standout dish by any means, tasted like bbq duck, with no other notes or complexity. Lamb ribs were the same, very sweet - not much complexity. Black cod clay pot was not a special dish at all, we found it to be flavorless. It mostly tasted like burnt rice.To make things worse, my partner got violently ill, we didn’t even walk out of the restaurant before he got sick. That’s not what you want at this price tag.Again I can’t reiterate enough that the staff and atmosphere are this place’s saving grace. They were helpful and very on top of it. Unfortunately, you come to a restaurant for the food, not just the ambiance and service.
I had the lunch set and Singapore mock tail. Food was delicious but I don’t recommend the cod clay pot bc it’s a tiny portion of fish, too expensive for a bowl of rice. The flavor was also a little bland for me. The mocktail was delicious but a lot of ice. Service was excellent and it’s a really cool decor and layout. Portions are okay on the smaller side. i wouldn’t go really hungry. Overall you can get good service, larger portions, tastier food for less $$ in this area BUT it was a nice one time experience.
Love! The food was amazing. The atmosphere was very nice and the people are very friendly. I would recommend if you are looking for a fancy Asian fusion in midtown !
Great vibe, the bao and beef tenderloin were incredible. However, I don’t know that it’s Michelin star good if that makes sense. Cocktails were good too, but not excellent and very expensive. Perfect before the theater though!
What an amazing restaurant. I had no idea before I walked in that this establishment is owned by the same owner as Marea as well, which is one of my favorite restaurants in New York City. The food, service, and decor at Fifty Three were all perfect. The main dining room is downstairs, and there are no windows other than a skylight, but they have made this space work beautifully. It is definitely a great special occasion or client event type place to dine at for high-end Asian cuisine and a restaurant that Id highly recommend!
Quality of food and drinks is phenomenal. Pricing for what it is made sense as well. The Singaporean chef brings in Malay flavors but pairs them well with find dining. I thoroughly enjoyed the duck pie tee, foie gras eel bite, crystal dumpling, soup dumplings and scallops. The lobster rice did feel a little short. In terms of desserts, mango one was must get. I wasn’t particularly a fan of the peppercorn in my chocolate but I know it’s a thing to do. I recommend this restaurant.
Great food, horrible service. We were a party of 7. 5 arrived earlier. About 10 minutes later, I walk in with my colleague, we walk towards the hostess, say hello to the hostess while hostess is looking at the party of two who walked after us, greets them, gives them a big smile, refers to them by their last name, then tells us to step aside, the other party taken in. Then she attends us. Food service is another story. Each plate come about 3-4 minutes a part, mine was 2nd, probably 10 minutes past since I received mine but haven’t started eating, waiting for everyone to be served. Waiter asks how is everything, whether I like my dish, taste, etc but I tell him I haven’t started yet. I kid you not, I waited over 20 minutes before started eating. Of course they cannot get the plates right either. They give his to her, hers to him, out of party of 7, they only got mine right. Yeah at this point, the rice is as cold, main dish was cold, but still very delicious. Food is great. Service is another story.
Small portions. Love the eel and Foie Gras appetizer. However a little disappointed with all the dim sum-like dishes. It tastes nothing like dim sum. The duck pie appetizer is far too sweet. Overall less Asian flavor but more of an American bbq style.
Absolutely loved the atmosphere of 53! Great place to take someone on their first date or an anniversary like myself tonight. Service was amazing and the food was very tasty! I will be coming back very soon. They were also very accommodating to my partners kosher diet.
After visiting this place I’d definitely recommend coming and try their Asian fusion dishes. All were quite good, especially loved the clay pot rice & carpaccio. Lamb and chicken felt a bit mediocre and didn’t really catch us. It is a little bit over priced, but overall we had a great experience and especially the service is super attentive and nice. Would give the service alone 5/5.
I had the beef tenderloin stir fried, duck clay pot and Xiao Long Bao. They are definitely pricy, especially $26 for 3 xiao long bao. Food quality is definitely made to perfection. The cabinet Sauvignon was tasty. Service from the bar counter was efficient and friendly, nothing short of what would expect from a pricy restaurant. The only drawback of the whole experience was the bar seating. The pleasure was definitely not comfortable having to hunch over a bar counter top. There were plenty of empty seatings but my party of two was not given a table option despite plenty of vacancies. It felt a bit of discriminatory at the time but we were too hungry to fuss over the feeling of rejection. This is not a repeated experience considering the price, especially in NYC. There are plenty of great Chinese crusine in NYC offering better quality and quantity food without the implied intimidations. Basically food without pretentious. If you are into splurging then this might be the place to try once. I would recommend just dive into the main courses and skip the appetizers as their tiny portions are not worth splurge on. Skip the alcohol and spend on the main courses for good food experience. Over all, i would try it once if you feel rich. But definitely not worth the second time.
I came here to celebrate a family members birthday, and it was perfect! Everyone was so friendly and thoughtful, to say nothing of how delicious the food is. I had the duck pai tee to start, and then the special wagyu filet clay pot. My dining companion had the lobster spring rolls then the lobster in lotus leaf. We were both very happy with our choices, and the nama chocolate dessert was superb. Also, miso butterscotch ice cream? Brilliant. Could eat by the gallon. Cant wait to return and send more friends here. Thank you!
Would’ve likely gotten a five star from us, however not any decency or common courtesy I guess one would say no Manager came over instead. We got there quite a bit earlier than our reservation 90 minutes as we just had celebrated an engagement a few weeks back and told them such was set up through a concierge’s at a five star restaurant. None of that mattered. They didn’t come over to us until 30 minutes after our reservation there for two hours of being there.A highlight was in fact, John at the bar who did an exquisite job in taking care of My Love and !!!!I. Notwithstanding the above mentioned unfortunately takes precedence of what would’ve been a good experience. Proceed with caution is there appears to be no real ownership existing?
This has easily become our favorite restaurant in NYC! My husband and I decided to have dinner here two weeks ago to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and escorted to our table. On the way to our table multiple staff members greeted us, this was such a nice touch. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and perfect for a date night. After being seated, our server Sheila came over and introduced herself, she reviewed the menu with us and recommended drinks. For drinks we ordered the coke de blanc and an old fashioned. The drinks were really good and you can tell it was made to perfection. For appetizers, we ordered the duck pie, toro tartare, king crab, oyster & uni & royal shumai. Every single appetizer was delicious! The portions are small but the dishes are filled with flavor and the presentation is beautiful! For entrees, we had the king prawns, lamb ribs & scallops along with the lobster fried rice. King prawns and lamb ribs were great. The lobster fried rice was also very tasteful and filled with lobster. The scallops were not as great as every other dish we ordered. For dessert we had ice cream & the nama chocolate which we really enjoyed. Throughout the night we had two managers check in on us and our server Sheila was the absolute best! Freddy was also very helpful throughout the night with the check ins. My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here to celebrate our anniversary and will be back very soon.
Overall rating: 4.49I already know I’m not the target audience, but rating based on the taste vs the price. I was NOT expecting this to be an Asian fusion place. Good try but stress on fusion vs Asian.- Norwegian King Crab: 6/5 only 3 pieces but very delightful- Royal Shumai: 4/5 eh not worth it- Duck Pie Tee: 5/5 very good- Bok Choy: 4/5 good- tiger prawn clay pot: 4/5 eh- kung pao quail: 2/5 do not get. They smother the quail in sauce and it gets lostI have a higher tolerance for Asian food because I’m Asian. I thought the food was okay but not for the price. Again, I’m not the target audience. If you don’t eat Asian food often & you’re likely a tourist staying at a nearby hotel.. you may like this! But if you’re a local, I’d choose otherwise.
This restaurant was amazing! I brought my boyfriend here for a little birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. From the atmosphere to the hospitality to the delicious food everything was 10/10. We will definitely be coming back to try other dishes. If you go here please make sure you try the Black Cod clay pot dish! The cherry on top was the complimentary scoop of coconut ice cream they surprised us with for his birthday. A memorable dinner and experience, we’ll be back soon :) Thank you to our knowledgeable and extremely courteous waiter, Greg. The entire staff was wonderful as well!
53 is the perfect place to go for special occasions. The ambience is beautiful, flooded with natural light during the day and a romantic ambience at night. The food is spectacular. There’s a prix-fix menu for lunch that is one of the best deals in town. A the night, the a la carte menu always has excellent options- and there are off menu chef specials that are delightful.A staple to get is the show-stopping, amazing seaweed salad. Everything noodle related is a good option. The lamb ribs were excellent. Mango pudding is the perfect ending.Service is five stars.
We had an amazing dining experience at 53, and it was our second visit in over 6 months. The food and service were consistently excellent. Our waiter, Max, went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was enjoyable and satisfying. The dining room itself was stunning, with comfortable furniture and a lovely ambiance created by the dimmed lighting a creative decor. We highly recommend sitting in their downstairs dining room, as the striped color detail adds a fun and energetic vibe, accompanied by great music. Our favorite dishes included the chicken truffle bao, beef carpaccio, and black cod miso. We were so impressed by them that we would definitely order them again!! The total cost came to approximately $140 per person, including tip and a drink. It was definitely worth the price considering the generous portion sizes and the exceptional flavors that each dish offered. I would recommend dining here!
Had dinner here on a Wednesday night. They have 2 seating areas, one upstairs and one downstairs. Upstairs feels a bit more casual. Good mix of general SE Asian food flavors / dishes. Food portions are good to share for 3 people. Yellowtail carpaccio seemed to the be smallest portions of the fish carpaccio options.Cereal prawns were great, a mix of sweet and savory. Pricing is what you’d expect for a place like this - we spent $80/pp without drinks.
Asian fusion restaurant with family style dinning experience married with the finnese of a trained chef. The food was simply outstanding Eel Club, Skate and Kung Pao Quail were all amazing. We did a tasting of 9 items and felt full in the end with room for dessert. Excellent wine list with good pairing recommendations in addition to the two full bars and great bespoke cocktails. Mango Pudding was really good plus a selection of teas after meal is just perfect. Service was attentive providing excellent information and recommendations. An outstanding experience.
As a Singaporean visiting the city, the flavors of the food here are very authentic and can easily see why it’s on the Michelin guide. The chef managed to maintain the Asian flavors that is familiar to us from Southeast Asia while elevating it to make the whole dining experience special. Staff are also amazing and it’s just such a wonderful dining experience that we came twice during our short trip here in NYC. The chicken rice is very good and so are the claypot rice dishes. We love the one with the cod. Can’t go wrong with any of the starters also but the seaweed salad is very refreshing and definitely worth trying out.
Good food (5 stars), horrible service (0 star). As we were discussing appetizers and drinks, the manager came to us and told us they needed the table back by 8pm but it was 5:30pm. No apologies at all. Extremely awkward and unprofessional. I would not feel comfortable taking anyone important to this place just to embarrass myself. Also, no toilet paper in the female restroom the entire night.Food wise, everything was good, no complaints.
Outstanding modern Asian restaurant. Everything is excellent on it. The ambiance, the food, the presentation of the dishes and the service. The seafood, the baos, the ribs, all the ones we tried were excellent.
Good place for a group - can order lots to share. A little hard to find on google searching “53” but no matter. It’s a fun upscale Chinese restaurant, the food is good, but nothing too memorable. The vibe is great, and service was friendly.
It was an outstanding Asian Fusion journey at 2022 Thanksgiving Day with my girl. She took a lot of time to get these pics trimmed. You’re welcome! The shrimp dumplings are the best out of those. Secondary would be the lamb! Very saucy l, kinda spicy, and savory. Plus, ambiguity and intimate ambiance are good for dating or small talk.
Kate the bartender was fantastic. Food was great, vibes were great. The steak carpaccio and black cod clay pot were exceptionally good. Razor clams - I’d skip. They were still a bit gritty.
Food and ambience was good, but the service was not. I knew I was going to be late, so I tried to call them to make arrangements, but they never picked up. Beaware that they also never pay attention to your notes when you reserve online. When I arrive at the restaurant, they gaslight me to think it is 100% my fault and make me order & finish my food in an hour. They said an hour is plenty of time to eat. Then, I might as well eat in a fast food restaurant if I am to eat in an hour. Not visiting here ever again.
Gorgeous atmosphere💕Very good food. The fluke was especially delicious. Reasonably priced.
Absolutely exceptional! My fiancé surprised me with dinner at 53 to celebrate my birthday and our experience was nothing short of amazing. We started our meal with the lobster spring rolls which were loaded with giant pieces of delicious lobster. Then we split the black cod clay pot and the skate. Two days later Im still dreaming of both dishes! We cant thank the staff enough for their friendly service and for making our evening so special. We will certainly be back soon!
My friend and I were at 53, finishing our dessert when a server abruptly placed the bill on our table. We allocate 1 hour and 30 minutes for tables of two.Other guests are waiting, the server stated. This time limit was never communicated to us. Attempting to rectify the situation, the server said,We apologize and will take care of the bill, but immediately followed it up with,Youll need to leave now. Despite my offer to pay, they insisted we leave, making us feel not just rushed but also shameful. The conflicting actions soured our experience, ensuring we would neither return nor recommend53.
Great service, food was pretty good.
Really loved the ambience, the design and the waiters. Everyone was very friendly and professional! Definitely try the duck pie tee, one of the best dishes I have ever tasted (ordered it twice).
First of all, let me tell you this place is a hidden gem. Me and 😍😍My Wife 😍😍 went here for our anniversary. The restaurant is perfectly placed in the heart of Manhattan and is a pleasant surprise when you walk through the door. The lighting is perfect as it is darkly lit and keeps all eyes focused on what is in front of them. The food was delicious and the presentation was second to none. I highly advise everyone to stop by 53 and enjoy this fantastic restaurants food. Oh it might I add you may bump into a star or two at this restaurant.
This was my third time there. The servers are very nice. I love trying different dishes every time I go. Unfortunately, the front desk girls are not very welcoming. No one greeted me. I said hello multiple times and just told one of them the name of the reservation. No one asked me anything. If you are going to be considered a high end establishment everyone needs to represent it the best they can.
Fantastic brunch, innovative dim sum experience, elevated ingredients and delightful decor.
Great environment and service but disappointing food and drinks. Very tight table spacing results in having to pull the table out in order to sit on the other side.- Steamed Halibut: very plain sauce and dry fish meat, and tiny portion- Lobster rice in lotus leaf: seems everything is cooked separately and wrapped in the lotus leaf which does not have the fragrance of the leaf neither the seafood. Very dull flavor.- Egg noodle: prob cheapest dish on the menu but the best dish for the night. Very authentic.
Food is amazing, portions are very tiny. The price isn’t that expensive and very reasonable for the quality. A great ambiance for a date or anniversary, but since it’s Chinese cuisine this place is better suited for larger groups (4+).
Went here for dinner spontaneously and was pleasantly surprised!! Enough to compel me to leave a review since the reviews were lower than I expected. Such a cool space with aesthetics any basic girl will love.Got the fluke, duck pie tee, royal shumai, xiao long bao, hainanese chicken, grilled king prawn, black cod claypot, kung pao quail, and egg noodle.Fave dishes were the Duck Pie tee (all the flavors in one bite is unreal #foodgasm) and black cod claypot was also really good. Overall food experience was great and I got the Singapore sip cocktail which was perfect for me who doesn’t like to taste the alcohol but definitely did feel it.Also bonus that they have coatcheck for coat and/or bags which is super convenient if you’re coming from work like I was.
Excellent company dinner. The fused Asian fare was very tasty. Everything was fresh, uniquely seasoned. The service was super attentive.
DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME! We order 6-7 items from the menu, couple apps, some proteins, 1 chicken and 2 beef items we were EXTREMELY disappointed. The server actually forgot to put in one of our dishes and when we had finished all the other dishes and asked about it he said it’s on its way then ran to the kitchen it was another 10 minutes and he came back with it. This was supposed to be a highlight tenderloin in black pepper sauce. Unfortunately in there rush to put the dish together they forgot to cook the meat. 🤮 Slapped together last minute. Honestly the flavours are just lacking all around and the food is uninspiring and boring. The servers in the red vests need better customer service training. Ended a fantastic trip on oof dining on a culinary low.
Stellar service, ambiance, & food! Definitely up there price wise with most cocktails being ~$26+ and the average of plates being ~$40. However, the experience was great and for me, was worth it.I recommend trying at least one clay pot dish, adding to about 2-3 plates per person (depending how hungry you are).I also really enjoyed the Golden Empress cocktail. It wasn’t busy on Monday night, but making a booking in advance is always a safer bet. Thank you for having us— you have wonderful staff!!!
Nice atmosphere, decent cocktails, food was average - interesting flavor combos but lacked seasoning and finesse in general especially considering the price. Eg XLB chicken and skin was kinda dry and truffle flavor was not pronounce. It’s a nice place for a drink.
I can tell I will come back again!! Food is so good!! Foie Gras super yumm!! Black cod rice must try!!!
53 is hands down one of the top restaurants in midtown New York. A refined experience from top to bottom, 53 is a perfect destination for the special occasion.A menu that is filled with an array of smaller but shareable dishes, it is easy to try a variety of dishes. To get the full experience, I would recommend trying one to two dishes from each section of the menu. The rock shrimp and Xiao Long Bao were two standout offerings. In addition to the incredible food, the dining room is really quite stunning. While the main floor is set off by a distinct bar and lounge aesthetic, the subterranean dining room has an elegant aesthetic. Dad gives you the feel of an upscale night in New York City.Though midtown struggles for quality restaurants, 53 is carrying the banner for a rejuvenated dining scene in the neighborhood.
I give this restaurant 2 stars, despite the environment. On Sunday night ( 07/07/2024) my husband and I just wanted to have a nice and quiet Chinese dinner, so we decided to go there instead of Chinatown since its not far from our home. When we arrived, the girl at the front desk wanted to take us downstairs. I got really annoyed because the whole restaurant was almost empty at 5:30 pm on a Sunday. I told the girl I didn’t want to go downstairs, so they seated us on the first floor. However, the real problem started then. There were four of their Latino employees (females) standing by the front desk, joking around, laughing loudly, and having a great time. Meanwhile, my husband and I could hardly hear each other.I complained to the server, and later the manager came over, apologized, and promised to talk to the front desk girls. The situation only got a little better. I wont go back there. The food is okay, but being belittled as guests is insulting. I can take the 6 train to Chinatown, have the same food for a third of the price, and not care about the noise at all.
Very popular place and getting a table during g prime weekend times can be tough. Amazing food. Highly recommend the black cod in crispy rice.
The drinks were stellar but none of the food was really great. $90 steak clay pot was not worth it. Tasted like all of the food was premade hours in advance and warmed up for us.
Fantastic food option in Midtown. We were a party of four and about to see a show in Midtown. We were promptly seated and immediately blown away by the decor and ambience. The cocktails were awesome we went thru all of them. 😂 my fave is the Fade into Jade which is on a sweeter side and creamy due to the coconut. We ordered three dishes from the dim sum section of the menu. We also ordered four other main dishes that includes, hainanese chicken, skate sambal, beef satay and duck clay pot rice. The duck claypot rice and hainanese chicken rice are spot on! Similar in taste like the ones I had in Singapore.Overall - it’s an excellent and reasonably priced (for midtown!) cantonese/singaporean restaurant in NYC.
Really good food; food came quickly and was all very good. Drinks great as well. Will be back Im sure!
We had a Good experience dining at 53As you seen on social media platforms everything is legit. Our highlight of the night was this $21 seasonal fruit, feel like we getting a mysterious box. Grapes were half good, persimmon are somehow bruisedWe take it as a fun experience
We were not impressed. The menu seems vegan friendly and it should be but its not. The sauteed (snow) Pea Shoots without the shrimp paste could be found anywhere. The Crystal Dumplings with fresh spinach and meaty minced morel mushrooms were yummy. The soy sauce is of superior quality. Im surprised a supposed upscale restaurant, only has white rice. The tofu dish Kangkong, described as preserved tofu, chili, ginger is not tofu, AT ALL! Theres not even a trace of tofu in ANY FORM in the dish but its water spinach with a savory, salty, buttery sauce! The Fade Into Jade is a fine drink with an interesting balance between lime, mint and a watery coconut cream. The decor is comfortable with familiar catchy, funky music beats.
Marvelous dining experience here at 53. The waiters introduced every dish we have ordered and served quick. The dished themselves are great and nicely cooked.
The food in this restaurant is way lower than expected. DO NOT trust reviews on apps like 小红书, you will 100% regret your decision if you choose to come.
Pricey but solid. Headed by a singaporean chef whom i have to give kudos to. There are quite a few dishes on the menu that give homage to my hometown, including the sambal skate (stingray), duck pie tee, hainanese chicken (wheres the ginger rice!) and beef sate. All were executed well but its hard for me not to balk at $25-30 for 3 dumplings, whether they are truffled or not. Blame the luxury condo this is attached to and their exorbitant rents, i guess. The black cod claypot rice was another standout and comparatively worth the value given that it couldnt be finished in three bites. Nice atmosphere although the main dining room is located in the basement and exudes a slightly clubby feel. I’d come back if it was a client dinner.
Intimate, pleasant ambience for business lunch, good acoustics. Service is quick and lunch menu offers great choices.
It was really amazing experience 😍 great service and food is soooo delicious
I’ve been several times now as it’s convenient for work and it is absolutely fantastic every single time. The ambiance is unbeatable - from the second you walk through the door everything from the lighting to the architecture makes you know you picked the right place. I’ve had almost everything on the menu at this point and it’s just SO good. Recommend getting a little of everything to share with the table. The cocktails- especially the one with black sesame was so well balanced. Highly recommend and will continue to come back!!!!!
As part of my Birthday celebration we chose restaurant 53 on 53rd Ave in New York City. Our evening at 53 was nothing short of spectacular, from start to finish, with impeccable service that made the experience memorable. Our server, Jack, was phenomenal, delivering outstanding service with a smile and timely attention to our dining needs. My apologies for not mentioning all other service personnel who checked on us and who rendered an equally wonderful service.Complementing our meal, the sommelier expertly navigated us through their wine selection, ensuring the perfect pairing with our dishes. We began our culinary journey with a shared Mizuna salad, adorned with chanterelle mushrooms and the luxurious touch of truffles—an exquisite start. For appetizers, I indulged in the Crystal Dumplings, beautifully crafted with morels and spinach—a true delight for the senses.Meanwhile, my wife enjoyed the lobster spring rolls, brimming with a generous serving of succulent lobster, which she found absolutely delightful. Then we shared a satay of trumpet mushrooms with mint chimichurri, another excellent executed dish for mushroom lovers like me.Moving on to the main courses, I opted for the Mushroom Clay Pot. This dish was a comforting ensemble of sticky rice and earthy maitake mushrooms, cooked to perfection. My wife savored the skate, masterfully seasoned with sambal and delicately wrapped in a banana leaf, which infused it with an aromatic richness. For dessert, I chose the incredibly refreshing coconut sorbet, while my wife treated herself to the creamy Madagascar vanilla ice cream—both desserts were a perfect end to our meal.Thank you, Team 53, for a truly wonderful dining experience. Your dedication to culinary excellence and guest satisfaction shone through every aspect of our evening.
My friend and I discovered this restaurant through mutuals and we were definitely was not disappointed. The atmosphere is what truly influenced us to give it a shot and the restaurant was so much more beautiful in person. The service from the hosts to the waiters was fantastic— everyone was so kind and accommodating.Given it had been our first dine in at 53, our server Luke had been more than helpful with introducing us to different aspects of the menu and helped us choose some of the most delicious appetizers and entrees he believed we would enjoy (the salmon app he recommended in particular was PERFECT!)The food was savory, fresh, and 100% worth the hype— as well as the drinks. Unfortunately, we had been late to our reservation so my friend and I felt like we had to rush. However, the second server that took over for Luke (Steven) was incredibly gracious towards us and ensured that we could take our time. Albeit all the dishes were perfect, the dessert had to be my favorite part. Perfect way to end the night. If you’re willing to splurge on a NYC weekend out, please check out this restaurant. We will definitely be paying another visit :)
Beautiful establishment with very good food. The waitress recommend that two people usual order 5-6 things but me and my date was very full just from 4 things one of them being an appetizer of beef carpaccio which wouldnt didnt really add to the fullness so you can can it 3 things. My only issue was the loud music that was playing which 1... messed with the ambiance and 2 causes everyone else to have to speak up to hear each other speak so the noise grows exponentially, there were several times I couldnt hear the waitstaff speak to me. I was a little worried about drinking here because the management never seems to respond to the negative reviews but my first time dining here had no real issues.
The food was out of this world, and I felt like I was in heaven. The service was very good, the people were very friendly, and the general manager Alexis was doing a fantastic job helping other staff take out the food. I would eat there again with my family and friends.
Not professional, simply put. Interruptions, dietary restrictions ignored, placed wrong wine in front of us, bad attitude. I see what they are trying to achieve here, but just not professional enough.
Absolutely terrible reservation system. Booked for Thursday and called to cancel on Wednesday and got charged $160 for cancellation fee
5 stars dining experience in NYC! I was here to celebrate my friend’s birthday and we were so happy that we’ve chosen 53 for our special day. The food and drink was amazing I love every single dish on the table and if you ask which one is my favorite I would say all of them, I can’t pick one! On the top of that the service was phenomenal, we definitely enjoyed and will be back again. Thumbs up!
My husband and I had a wonderful meal here! So thrilled to see traditional Chinese dishes elevated in unique ways, and the drink menu was superb (cocktails were inventive and wine by the glass list was terrific).
My new favorite place in town. I have a Chinese stomach but I would recommend it to everyone who enjoys Asian or Asian fusion cuisine. Great quality.
Fancy Asian fusion restaurant. The premium lunch set is really good - I had seaweed salad, crispy wonton and Kung Pao chicken. Would visit again.
$150 per person without ordering drinks. The food was good but not great. Too many better options in NYC.
Service was absolutely terrible but the food, vibe and music were great.
Food had good taste. However, beef was a little dry. The atmosphere is a little claustrophobic with lower ceilings. Otherwise, service and menu choices were great and advantageous. Black cod clay pot is very soft and tasty.
I wish I could give the service 6 stars, the waiter was probably the most friendly waiter I have ever had and knew the menu exceptionally well, being able to detail every item on the menu, give good recommendations (which is always nice in a place with some very exotic menu items), and knew the allergens. On top of that he was just the right level of entertaining without being tacky or getting in the way of the meal. The food is to die for, honestly I can’t believe this place doesn’t have a Michelin star. The skate sambal (they warn you that this dish smells odd and it does) was scrumptious. The black cod clay pot had my friends and I scrambling to get more before the others could finish it first. The starters were fantastic as well. This is somewhere I’d like to come to many times (already been twice)
I was very pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. We had the eel club, duck pie tie, black cod clay pot, and skate and all were delicious. It is a bit pricey, but I think worth it. The service was quite good as well
Loved the ambiance! The food lacked some flavor, but overall I enjoyed the meal. The Amethyst Cloud Sour was really tasty. The service was very slow, and the waiter was not attentive. I felt neglected throughout the night. The hostess was very friendly.
This was a great new find for us coming from out of town. It was suggested to us by.Tony at Zegna, and it did not disappoint. The decor and design is awesome. The upstairs dining lounge and bar is smaller and quieter. We chose downstairs and we are glad we did. A bigger dining room, and our server Madison did a great job walking us through the menu. An absolute must is the clay pot cod. The crunchy rice is a great combination with the dish. Cocktails were very creative and a great selection. And as a sidenote. The noise level and ambient music is perfect. So many restaurants are so loud and this was perfect. We will definitely return.
If you want to spend $100 per person for rice and spicy cucumber 🥒 without alcohol 🍸 this is the place for you
Good
The food was outstanding, and each dish was presented very nicely. The service was amazing, and I gave big compliments to the chef mark and the general manager, Alexis.
Any food maniac should watch my review.Food is good but not worth the price. I can cook better myself. Eel club is the best but thats a basic thing for any high class restaurants. They definitely used canned black pepper sauce for the razor clam. Duck clay pot is not as good as street food, due to lack of duck fat(flavor).
You know its good when you leave talking about the sides (let alone the entrees!). Everything was fantastic and unique in a well crafted atmosphere. Cant wait to go back.
Excellent food & service. I have been twice so far. One was by myself, the other was with a friend. They gave me warm welcoming & tried to give comfortable seat even though i went to alone. I was enjoyed so much both time thanks to food & service.Everything i’ve had so far was above the average especially dessert.Best dish was duck pie tee. I strongly recommend it. It has a lot of flavor & juicy. This place become one of my go-to place!!
53 is a Beautiful Restaurant located right next to the Museum of Modern Art. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try if your looking for an amazing asian fusion dinning experience. The restaurant is so beautiful with two very nice wide open bars. Highly recommend the Samon Carpaccio and the Dumplings! Only complaint is the menu is very small.
We were there to celebrate an anniversary. Hostess acknowledged it but there was no special gestures or anything. Not even a simple “happy anniversary” drawing on the dessert plate. For the price I am paying I would expect a more personal touch.Food was mediocre for the price point. The lamb was good. Oyster had a strong pungent fishy taste. Razor clams were full of sands which almost chipped my tooth. You would expect an Asian restaurant like this should know how to clean seafood if that’s what they are famous for.I would not go back.
This was long overdue. We were here on July 1 after Brodway show to celebrate my belated birthday. Definitely it was first class experience. The restaurant has a chic design mix with Mad Men period. We had the table in the corner in lower level. That was best seat in the house in my opinion. The staffs were very helpful. It has been a while since I went to this type of restaurant where the staffs are paying attention to all the tables. Obviously the foods were delicious. I look forward for another opportunity to eat at this restaurant again.
Beautiful decor, which sets a perfect tone for dining journey. The fusion of traditional Asian elements with modern touches creates an ambiance that is both elegant and inviting. The ingredients fresh and presentation impeccable. The staff was attentive and friendly. They made sure my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.
The food was excellent, each dish was delicious. The service was terrible because no one was in charge. We had three people waiting on us and they didn’t follow any rhythm to make the experience consistent. They didn’t know what the others were doing. For instance after I gave one server my credit card to pay, another server brought a second copy of the bill. The food came too fast and the drinks came too slowly. Dishes and cutlery were put on the table for no apparent reason. The servers seemed to be doing things they were told without understanding why they were doing them or how they effect our experience eating. Twice we were brought the wrong drinks. The first time it took so long to get a replacement that I had to ask two servers to check on my drink and finally I changed drink orders but the original order which I didn’t receive was still on the bill. It was infuriating to have such good food along with clunky service.
Would give no star if possible. Is this really a Michelin restaurant? Is that star a joke? As an Asian, I feel offended and embarrassed to dine in such an Asian fusion restaurant.Nice environment yet MISERABLE dishes. I was stunned when the server told us three people usually order 7-8 dishes. Turns out, we ordered 10 and not yet full. The food was so terrible: they were fishy or too salty or literally flavorless. This fancy Duck Pie Tee really has a brilliant name but this tiny little amount of duck inside the oil-heavy crust tastes basically the same as that Lamb Chop.Salmon Carpaccio is some smoked salmon you can get from any grocery store with some lemon-vinegar sauce. And you can get even more salmon if you buy one package from the grocery store than you get here. But they charge you 20+ for this.
I can’t recommend 53 enough. Food was absolutely incredible, the service was fantastic, and I loved the ambiance. I went with my girlfriend to celebrate our anniversary.Highly recommend the lobster rice, the cod clay pot, and the eel club. Our waiter went through the entire menu and recommend dishes based on what kind of flavors we liked and how hungry we were. We ended up getting four dishes and a dessert. An extra dessert was thrown in to celebrate our anniversary, which was very unexpected and much appreciated (the mango pudding is a must have for dessert).A sommelier helped us pair a bottle of wine with our dishes and it was a perfect match. The drink menu is extremely extensive but she was able to narrow it down based on our flavor palatesThroughout the entire meal, many people asked how our meal was and made sure we were having a good time. Towards the end of the meal, Alex, one of the managers came to us and asked what we thought of everything.I cannot recommend 53 enough, perfect date spot. I will definitely be going back again soon!
The food was excellent, however the portions are very small. even after ordering 5 dishes + dessert we weren’t full. we would’ve ordered more before dessert but they took away our utensils before we could ask.the xiao long baos were definitely a highlight. and the cod fish clay pot, with crunchy/crispy rice bottom and tender fish. the hainanese chicken was refreshing and juicy. and the fluke starter was also very light and refreshing. the skate was perfectly cooked and tasted a bit like a cajun seafood boil.
Brunch - we tried both set menus and the Hainanese chickenFood - meh, not authentic Chinese enough, no creativity for fusionService - very good. I enjoyed the brief convo with Layla (hostess)Atmosphere- interesting layout, has potential be a speakeasy but didn’t translate
Amazing Menu! Highly recommend. Took care of my shellfish and nut allergies. Had a great meal.
Duck Pie Tie was amazing. Everything was amazing. I’m in love. Even the mango pudding was the best I’ve EVER had. I had to take one star off because it was expensive as hell but it sure was the best I’ve ever tasted. Will be back again, and again and again…
A lot of my friends recommended 53 to me and I went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. There are 2 floors and the upper floor with bar is a bit tiny than I thought. The food there was quite good and we like the block cod clay pot very much. The portion of food may look a bit small but we were both very full after 4 dishes and 1 dessert. One more thing to add is the number of items in every dishes is 3 (or multiple of 3). So you properly need to add extra pieces with additional money if you have a party of 4 or more.
I give a restaurant a five star if I would make a point to go back again. Visiting New York for 24 hours to help move my brother out of the city, this was where he wanted to have his last dinner in NY. Specifically, loving a good seared foie gras, he wanted to have the eel club again, and it absolutely did not disappoint. So much so that we ordered a second round to end out our dinner (aside from dessert, of course). This is likely the one restaurant recommendation I would give to someone asking me for a place to eat in New York. The service was good, if a little pretentious, and the ambiance was pretty hip. Heres what we ordered and how we liked it.To start:Eel club: absolutely incredible. One of those dishes where you take a bite and just want to close your eyes, tune everything out, and savor it. Such a beautiful balance of texture and flavor with the crunchy grilled crostini topped with the eel and the buttery, melt in your mouth foie gras, and finally the tart cherry. Just felt really balanced and delicious. I will say I felt like the eel got a little lost in the flavor and textures. I dont necessarily say that as a criticism because I obviously enjoyed eating it, but I think its worth noting. Again, so so good that we had to order it twice.Salmon carpaccio: I was disappointed. I love a good salmon carpaccio, and this one just fell flat. Im not sure if the quality of the fish wasnt great or if it was overpowered by the excessive sauce on it, but it was our least favorite dish of the night and I wouldnt recommend it.Xiao Long Bao: soup buns with ground chicken and truffle that were great. Obviously really hot upon arrival. I love steamed buns and these were awesome. Very flavorful, was spooning soup off the plate it was so good and everything was so elevated by the truffle!Beef Sate: Really nice, well cooked and seasoned beef. The pickled onions were a very refreshing topper to the skewers. Loved it. Both of us actually preferred the skewers without the peanut sauce. Im a no sauce guy in general, but the feeling was mutual at the table.Cereal Shrimp: awesome, unique twist on a sweet and savory shrimp dish. It was essentially cereal crusted. I had to resist the urge to just spoon piles of that cereal into my mouth after finishing the shrimp.Ice cream sandwich: I was leaning toward the mango pudding but per my brothers request we went with the ice cream sandwich for dessert. It was fine, but I can acknowledge that could just be because I have specific preferences. I prefer ice cream softer, but this was served with the ice cream really hard and needing to be bitten using your teeth. The sandwich crust was kind of meringue in nature; an airy, crunchy sort of texture that to me had no flavor. I didnt love it. I ended up using a spoon to eat the sandwich interior. It was really good, but just kind of left me disappointed. My brother enjoyed it though! He liked the unique twist in an ice cream sandwich.Overall an amazing dinner and if I had one night in New York again, I would absolutely want to come here for dinner. I would order everything again except for the carpaccio and ice cream sandwich. And that eel club needs to go on a list of the top dishes in NY.
Some of the best Oriental food in NYC.. great flavours and everything we ordered was spot on ! 👌🏽 a must visit.! Will be back soon
Delicious Asian fare against a stunning backdrop. Great cocktails and seafood dishes.
Still dreaming about this meal 3 weeks later. Every morsel of food was inventive, but more importantly delicious. Service was attentive and courses were well paced. Standouts were the duck pie tea and tenderloin, but really everything was excellent.
Great tasting dishes! Portions are quite small
I have been to several Tao Group Restaurants my favorites is Marea- my husband and I have been to 53rd the food was amazing, the atmosphere is Devine and the service was top notch. Tonight my daughter and I ate at the bar downstairs and once again the food was delicious- BUT, we were COMPLETELY IGNORED BY both bartenders. Their interactions with the other diners were magnificent but my daughter and I were UNSEEN. I normally tip 20%_ tonight I left 15 & honestly they DESERVED 0. I will go back but if either of those bartenders are working I will walk right out 😉
Food was excellent: Salmon crudo; soup dumplings; duck pie tee; h chicken; beef sate; cod clay pot; mango pudding. All outstanding. Perfectly paced meal. Our wait staff did an awesome job recommending great things from the vast menu. Space is gorgeous. A bit loud.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The food is fresh and incredible. The prices are pretty high but worth it. I’ll be back every visit as long as the quality and service remains high.Crystal Dumplings, Quail, and Duck are on the top of my list.
1st time and was impressed. Food delicious, atmosphere beautiful and Kelley was a delight. Would recommend for fun, a date night or whatever.Thank you!
Lets start of by praising the Lamb Ribs! So tastefulIm going back just to order them. Went with my best friend for dinner and service was great. Every single interaction was delightful. Then from the Ribs to the Duck and then tasting the Lobster Fried Rice. Did not disappoint!
Food was a little bit heavy for me. Definitely a great place for someone on a keto diet. But drinks!!! Omg, best balanced drinks I had in a while. Delicious! Bartender deserves applauses. Atmosphere is chic and team is phenomenal.
I went there with high hopes but was very disappointed. It started with the bad service but we ignored. We ordered a salad to start with, while working on it we found a paper pin. Me and my friend were shocked. We asked for the manager, she tired her best to be nice and accommodating but never going back there again. Just dont trust the place, service was bad and didnt find the restaurant very appealing either.
Tucked away next to the MOMA, this place has a beautiful interior accompanied by a romantic ambiance. This restaurant is a must visit. I tried a few of the drinks and a few dishes on the menu and was not disappointed. Reservations are a must here.
For me, 53 is already becoming one of the best overall dining experiences in NYC. It’s also by far and away the best Chinese/Singaporean food in NYC. I think I could safely say that nothing else currently comes close in terms of quality, refinement, and execution. I’ve been there 3 times now, and the execution and service were consistently great. They added a few new dishes to the menu, such as the oyster and uni, the royal shumai, and the crispy squid, and each new addition was amazing. I would recommend them all. The flavors are authentically Singaporean/Chinese and well balanced, but with a modern and creative twist. A number of dishes, such as the eel club, fluke, the cod clay pot, duck pie tee, and the beef tenderloin would rival the better restaurants in HK, Singapore, or Taiwan. I also do want to highlight the Hainanese Chicken. It is one of the best I’ve had anywhere. It’s simple perfection. If they decide to open for lunch, it be great if they make the Hainan chicken over rice.
The food we ate at 53 was excellent. We started with delicious cocktails. We then chose four dishes which was plenty for two people. After dessert, we were very full. The egg noodles dish was the best noodles I have ever tasted. The sate sauce used in the Beef sate was incredible. I could have happily eaten a bowl of the sauce on its own. The duck clay pot was amazing. The crisp rice at the bottom of the pot was mixed with the softer rice and pieces of duck and duck skin. The ducks fat soaked through the rice, making it taste divine. For dessert, we had the Mango pudding, which again was exceptional. Please open a restaurant in London! Oh, and the dining room is picturesque.
We went to 53 to celebrate our anniversary and we were so impressed! The food is delicious; we had the Royal Shumai, Lobster Rice, Wagyu Strip Loin and Tiger Prawn and a few of the specials of the day (the shumai & wagyu were our absolute favs). They also gave a dessert on the house for our anniversary - a sweet touch! There are so many great things on the menu that we will definitely need to come back soon again to try more of it. The cocktails were amazing, we had the Coke de blanc and Oaxaca Old Fashioned, and then had an Espresso martini - which we both agreed was the best espresso martini we have ever had anywhere! The service from our waiter was impeccable, he was very kind & knowledgeable. And lastly, the decor and ambience was perfect for our celebration. Highly recommend!
The service was not the best for a Michelin guide restaurant. The food was pretty good though! definitely try the duck clay pot!
Overall the eel club and razor clams are decent but other than these would not recommend
Wow!!!! loved all the dishes I tried here. I typically dont get impressed with fusion dishes. but this place was epic good.t h menu was created for the group and everything was excellent. ✨
Everything about this place portrayed luxury. The staff was kind enough to walk us through the whole menu. We came without a reservation on a Saturday and they were lucky enough to get a bar side seat and comfortably seat 3 people. The calamari was abundant and freshly fried with a bit of spice, paired with a creamy cheese sauce. The Wagyu skewers were so rich, topped off with that amazing peanut sauce, a must try. The soup dumplings had a rich beef and mushroom broth inside and was definitely a highlight. The fried rice and fried noodles dish were also good in their own respect. Now the claypot duck fried rice was out of this world. The duck melted in your mouth and the crispy rice was stirred table side then distributed, each but was better than the next.Lastly the mango pudding tasted just like pure mango and cream and set a new bar for desserts in my opinion.
What a great restaurant!!!
We had salmon carpaccio, Kung po quail, duck pie tee, lobster fried rice, shrimp skewers, razor clams, pea sprout sambal, duck 5 spice clay pot, mango pudding & chocolate cake. Theyve done the seafood well. Its not overcooked. Most of the dishes have very nice pungent flavors; however, not reminiscent of Spore. This is definitely a fusion place. The clay pot duck I liked the least. The crispy rice is nice & crispy but I was expecting the duck to be more flavorful & more juicy. It didnt conjure up my clay pot memories from years ago in Spore. I wish they used the sambal with the dried shrimp for the pea sprout. It would bring out more character to the dish - more like a typical Sing dish. Cant complain as this dish is gratis along with duck pie tee & chocolate cake. The mango pudding is like mango lasi & has a flan consistency. The service was exceptional! I didnt expect anything like this.
I’m not usually big into fancy Chinese food but this place was excellent. Drinks and wine are excellent and the food was so good. Def get the egg custard as bd the duck pie tee. Everything else was delicious too!
THE BEST Asian fusion I have ever had
So goood!! Loved the atmosphere and the whole vibe. The duck pie and beef carpaccio were to die for. Also noted in my reservation that it was our 1 year anniversary and at the end of our dinner they brought out a happy anniversary dessert. So cute thank you!! And a special thank you to Emily and Joe - lovely staff and service.
Music is too loud can’t hear the waitress or have a conversation.Food is mediocre, I took the eel with foie gras, and the emperor fish stew.First one was ok but the toasts were too greasy, second was disappointing. Why is caviar added to this? Fish? most of the dish is actually tofu,The service is not up to the task, waiting for the wine while diner is already served.Smiles are forced, not interested or involved in their customers
The good:Great atmosphere and excellent service, Which is expected given its association with Marea and its price tag.The eel club is very tasty, the lesser asian dish which is comprised of eel, fole gras and a cherry on top. Though portion is small (basically goes for every dish), but good. The bad:A futile fusion attempt on elevating the taste of asian cusine.Cant really recommend it because the tasty to $$ ratio. As i mentioned eel club was good; However the rest doesnt really justify the $$$$.Tiny portion and booooooring take on chinese food.Basically...they are just straight up chinese dishes.Clay pot duck rice is not bad, but not tasty, boring.Had high hope for the Razor clams with black pepper sauce. it was surprisingly...bland. Trying to think of something good about those two dishes, but they really left no impression.very well plated and presented, but it was apathetic.AlsoCocktail bar looked so good, but cocktail taste pretty bad.Me and my friend were joking that the Godai cocktail tasted like cough syrup on ice.And the faux 53 cocktail is so sour tasted like dissolved sourpatch. Dont really understand why anyone would enjoy a drink that gives them the sourface, then get accustomed to the sourness in order to finish it off. But okay, whatever turns you on.
Back in NY and I found this place. The downstairs vibe is nice, mostly a suit place during lunch but not too stuffy. The salads are great and I ordered the hainan chicken, about an 8.5/10, but everything else was great. Went back there twice in a week.
Very nice restaurant, the sevice very good and the food was delicious. You must try it!
Dinner in October reviewIf we ever choose to come back, we will dine for lunch, no more dinner. We had a very nice lunch in terms of service and food in July, so I decided to have my group birthday dinner at 53 in October. It was a disaster: we ordered drinks first, we all saw our drinks were already made, sitting on a tray, but no one would bring to our table, we waited at least 30mins; my best friend ordered a pot of green tea, she waited more than 40mins!Ordered crispy squid, but received crispy wonton; ordered cereal shrimp, never came to our table.I can tell at dinner time, the restaurant got very busy; so I didn’t give a bad Resy review. But I learned that come to 53 for lunch, more focused service, orders will be recapped so no mistakes.Lunch in July review:Best lunch we ever had.The restaurant is clean, refreshing, airy, extremely pretty and yummy with superb service. Now food: salmon carpaccio is very very tasty, that sesame oil wow; duck pie tee, we can have tons of them; black cod clay pot, my husband can’t stop saying how much he loved it!Great drinks.Had a wonderful chat with Emily. Can’t wait to be back for dinner with friends.
Be disappointed with mediocre Chinese “fusion” food, where the fusion components made the dishes worse. We ordered the eel club, and the foie gras made the dish extremely greasy that threw off the balance of the dish. The mushroom clay pot was also too oily and completely lack the flavor of the mushroom. Also the Hainanese chicken is more like a badly made (dry, tasteless) Cantonese soy chicken than an authentic velvety Hainanese chicken. While the atmosphere is amazing, there are simply better food options at this price point.
Good food but nothing out of this world. The staff are great. Just very expensive
Excellent food & service. I have been twice so far. One was by myself, the other was with a friend. They gave me warm welcoming & tried to give comfortable seat even though i went to alone . I was enjoyed so much both time thanks to food & service .Everything i’ve had so far was above the average except dessert .Best dish was duck pie tee. I strongly recommend it. It has a lot of flavor & juicy.Of course ,other dishes were good too. This place become one of my go-to place.
53 never pickup the phone call, like never, the lady pick up the phone on 12.24 put me on hold for 3 times in a call, one of the hold was more than ten mins. And she forgot about the call. Trash service
Nice dining restaurant, variety of dishes & good service
Is this the most beautiful restaurant Ive ever been to? I think so! Its basically in the MoMA and you can tell. Theres gorgeous art everywhere! The space is big but feels intimate; its moody and has a great flow. And dont even get me started on the food. We tried something from each menu section, and it was all just too good. My friend loved the salmon carpacio, but i loved the cod clay pot. And I dont normally like shrimp, but the cereal shrimp?!? i dont know what was in that breading but it was spicy and sweet and i am not exaggerating when i say we ate it by the spoonful. Even the matcha ganache dessert was incredible; way more complex and flavorful than i was expecting. We also loved every drink we ordered, especially the mezcal one, Electric something... I was lucky enough to go to a pre-opening event, but you can bet Ill be going back again and again as soon as theyre open full time!
Good place decent price per bite action. It seemed a little operational and lacking heart. The overall mood is good and worth going once.
Fun place to dine. It might not be the most authentic Chinese food, but it is still very good. A bit pricey, but given the atmosphere it is not too bad.
All of the food was absolutely delicious and well presented. The portions are on the small side so you will want to order a few things per person. Definitely try the truffle egg and duck pie tee.
I am impressed! It’s a wonderful place, with a beautiful interior, very tasty food and drinks, and great service. The first impression began with the friendly welcoming hostess, that continued with perfect hospitality at the table. I will definitely return here soon.
Exceptional food quality, every dish was well inventive from presentation, balanced and rich in multiple well harmonized flavors. The service was equally excellent. Will absolutely come back
All the dishes were either too salty, too acidic, or too sweet. The food was either too heavy or basically flavorless.Service from our waiter was very strange, kept coming over and interrupting our conversation (by saying that he was doing so), taking food away before we were finished, etc. During our dinner they also managed to drop two objects on the ground, one of which was a glass that quite literally broke all over the ground.Even though the experience was not the best I hope they can improve in the future, because a lot of people are going and everyone wants to have a good experience :)
Food was amazing!!! Both appetizers and main courses was just so delicious!!! Never expect that the food would be this surprising!! Will definitely visit back :)
My wife and I travel to Dubai frequently, and we often dine at Chef Akmal’s, who now has stars, restaurants. When we heard about 53 opening, we made the effort to fly in from Miami to take in this experience. Enough of the background…This food is amazing. The best Asian Cuisine in Manhattan, and it is not even close. The staff and management really know what they are doing. Our server, “Joe”, was truly on point. Lobster Spring Rolls, Chicken Wings, Scallops, and Oueww… that lobster fried rice. We had an experience. Needless to say, I will be back next month for my NYC foodie fix.
We ate a fantastic dinner at 53 last night. We had the dumplings, shumai and cucumber salad as appetizers. All excellent choices. And lobster rice, black cod hot pot and grilled tiger shrimp for the main course. We have been going to Hong Kong for 30 years and this is the best high end Chinese food we have had in the States.
There are few places in the world with excellence from the front door into the glided art. The food is mouth watering- the lamb ribs, the duck, the lobster shumai is a must try. Book your table immediately. I only wrote this review because I think they should sponsor me. I need to go back. The food will live in your imagination only a thought away. I can literally taste it ☺️😮💨
I want to give 0 star if I can. The worst fine dining restaurant I ever had. The cocktail was sour. The oyster was fishy. The eel appetizer was soaked in disgusting oil. I paid 40+ dollars for two shrimp that smells so bad in the curry sauce. Everything I tasted was bad. I will never recommend this restaurant to others.
Service was good and food was decent overall. I really love the atmosphere and cocktails are SUPER!
My favorite Asian fusion restaurant in this city! I love their lobster dishes.
This is a spot that deserves more 5 star reviews. Everything was on point, from the moment we walked in, to the moment we left. Service was terrific and so helpful! We had the yellowtail crudo, duck pie tee, beef tenderloin, the black cod and duck clay pot. Can’t wait to go again!
The meal was amazing. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is energetic. The duck pie tee, xiao long boa and eel club are absolute must haves.
Beautiful location. We had dinner and tried several dishes, they were all very good Iwould suggest the Bao, excellent, as well as the duck. Good job
Fantastic food, very authentic. Great service and atmosphere! Don’t miss Chef Li Si’s food!
This is going to sound crazy but the ice cream is legit awesome. The ice cream sandwich was bad though. The ice cream was extremely different between the sandwich and the scoops. Im not even sure why or how thats possible. This place was good but probably too expensive for what it is. $27 for 3 xlb should be illegal. They tasted good though
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. It’s my family’s favorite spot in manhattan and it’s easy to understand why.Service is impeccable; the food is perfect
The appetizers are very good, I like them a lot, 5/5. But the entrees are far lower than my expectation. The fish dish we had is the worst, it has the bad fishy smell when it came, the meat is dry, and it barely has any taste. The fried rice is also kind of plain, just white rice mixed with a little bit of fried egg, I can get a much better fried rice in a lot of the other restaurants. The clay pot is better than the other two but also just Okay, doesn’t worth the price. The service and atmosphere is good, but don’t have too high expectation on the food.
Had dinner here and left at 11.25pm.The waiter didnt asked me whether i finished my dessert and toke it away. After i told him i havent finished, then he put it back. The other waiter was rude when taking my credit card and bill. Felt like your restaurant was trying to make me leave ASAP.If you are closing, then you should politely inform me. What lousy service!Would not recommend this restaurant to any one in NYC.
Food was very good, place was busy and ambiance was fun. However, the staff was unpleasant and barely of any help. Disappointing, would not recommend.
Foods are tasty, as well as wine, but they are just overpriced and prohibitive considering each dish’s volume, which potentially makes the customers not visit again.
From the moment we stepped in until the moment we were about to leave, our experience was exceptional! The hostesses kindly welcomed us and they guided us to our table. We headed downstairs were the dining environment was very modern and chic. We started with one of our favorite bottles of wine to pair our food with. Cloudy Bay from New Zealand. The severs were very professional and personable and introduced every dish we have ordered. They were quick and very attentive. Our Asian fusion gastronomic journey was outstanding. We started with the toro tartare, Royal Shumai, yellowtail, oyster and uni, beef carpaccio, truffle egg and lobster spring roll. Every dish was a unique culinary experience! We continued with the lamb rib and the duck (must try) and we finished our dinner with mango putting and napoleon. Our overall experience was spectacular. 53 is one of the best restaurants in midtown. We will be back soon!
I’m going to be real honest here - this place feels like a tourist trap more than fine dining. We ordered five dishes. Truffle egg, eel club, salmon carpaccio, beef tenderloin, and black cod clay pot. Of the nearly $300 bill that came with this - the black cod was okay and the rest wasn’t special at all. I left to get a street vendor hotdog and was way more satisfied.Don’t tell me my palette isn’t refined enough or I just don’t get it. This place way over charges for substandard food. Or they use ingredients that are way too expensive to begin with and don’t use them well.Either way - if you’re expecting to have your mind blown, it won’t be here.
Ridiculous overpriced, generic food with fine dining food. Beef tenderloin taste like it’s from Panda Express( no offense). And they charge for Vero Sparkling water, yes, the “make your own” sparkling water machine. This is a joke.
I was recently there for lunch and had the lunch special. Overall I thought the food was average given the quality and the portion. You are paying a premium for the location and the setting
Modern delicious Chinese food in the middle of New York City. My husband took me here for my early birthday surprise, and the food were really delicious. We got the beef carpaccio, Royal shumai, beef tenderloin, and the duck clay pot. I honestly love all the fish but my favorite is the beef carpaccio, and the duck clay pot. My husband loves the beef carpaccio and the beef tenderloin. The restaurant is simplistic but modern. It is clean and the service is fast and friendly. Five stars!
In a city choking on its own hype, where overpriced, overwrought plates are served with a side of attitude, 53 is a revelation. It’s the antithesis of those sceney, hollow shells masquerading as restaurants, where the servers act like they’re doing you a favor just by showing up.The food here isn’t just good—it’s transcendent. Every bite is an event, a symphony of flavors that hits you like a perfectly orchestrated piece of music. Dishes aren’t just assembled; they’re composed. And the staff? They’re in on it. They don’t just know the menu; they live it. There’s no pretension here—just a crew that’s genuinely excited to share something remarkable with you. Then there’s the space—jaw-droppingly beautiful without being ostentatious. It’s sophisticated, inviting, and mercifully free of the Instagram hordes who’d gladly pay $200 for microwaved mediocrity if it came with the right filter. 53 is stylish without trying too hard, buzzing with the energy of a place that knows it’s got the goods. This isn’t just dinner; it’s an experience that stays with you long after you’ve left. The food, the vibe, the people—it all comes together effortlessly, without the ego or pretense that sinks so many others. If you’re in New York, skip the noise. Go to 53. You’ll remember why dining out should matter.
Amazing food and atmosphere
Absolutely amazing restaurant, vibes, service and absolutely great food!!!🙌👍👍👍
The lobster rice was the best! Must try!!
Food is excellent; service is amazing; and the space is super beautifully designed but not loud even when it’s packed. Lovely.
Not cheap, but well-made drinks, delicious take on Asian food and great service and ambience.
Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I cant even describe it.I mean, just walking in the restaurant, I already felt spoiled. On top of that, the presentation of the food looked splendid and tasted even better.Special thanks to the general manager, Alexis, as well as the chef, Mark.Left the restaurant satisfied and Im absolutely coming back.
Is this midtowns best kept secret? Food was amazing. Service on point.
Xiao long bao dumplings were phenomenal! everything was great down to the service. the restaurant itself is so aesthetically pleasing & perfect for all occasions. the hinanese chicken is served room temp/cold ish so definitely a hit or miss for most people - though the flavors & sauces with it make it worthwhile!
Amazing decor; a truly luxe atmosphere and every dish I tasted was delicious!
I brought my niece here when she was in town on vacation for the holidays. We went to see the Rockettes and had dinner afterwards. She loved it and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. Would definitely visit again.
The food was not good at all. We ate one shumai appetizer that we liked. The scallop dish was inedible. Our clay pot was average and need more flavor. The service was extremely attentive and friendly. Nice ambience. I probably would not return because of the food.
Delicious, thoughtful menu. Some unexpected combinations that work! Try the seaweed salad w apple strips or the eel w foie gras.Dont miss the Skate fish entree
The black cod clay pot was too salty, the sauce was not fully mixed.
Order duck pot. You wont regret it.
Incredible service & food. Will be returning!
Extremely overpriced for the portions. Service is very slow. Spend $500+ for 3 people and left hungry. Do not recommend.
Really great spot. Cocktails are exceptional. Food is not mind blowing however justify its price. The cod clay pot and eels club were our highlight of the evening. $200+ pp. Overall I’d come back.
Great food, very professional service, pleasant atmosphere. We will be back!
Fantastic flavours. The food was excellent - fresh and tasty. Server was very polite and welcoming. In NYC on our honeymoon. Lovely touch at the end - amazong jasmine-flavoured icecream (see photo). Highly, highly recommended.
Very unique Asian fusion menu not to be found anywhere in NYC. Best Xiao Long Tang Bao in town (available only on Sunday lunch), compared with the major names we have tried (beats Ding Tai Feng hands down). Among delicious one-and-only-in-NYC dishes include Clay Pot Black Cod, Hainanese Chicken. Great ambience.
Havent left many 100% satisfied review in a very long timeSuper happy with all from service to atmosphere but most importantly the food is excellent
This is the kind of restaurant that you find people are talking online but the actual dining experience is not even close to good. The cocktail is overpriced ($28 something) and it is either too sour or too meh.The oyster looks alright but like many other reviews mentioned, it tastes fishy and clearly is not handled right. The eel club is soaked in oil. It balances out the sour and fishy taste of the cocktail and the oyster but it would be too oil-heavy on its own.And the clay pot. For the price, you would expect some plating and creative ideas. But the claypot at 53 is like something I can find with a $20 dinner restaurant. Also the waiter who served us was confused and he paused when he saw the pot. And it had two small and overcooked shrimps. And yes, it was the entrée.I also noticed the music at the restaurant was amusing. It was a mixture of hiphop/rap and jazz.Overall, it seems that 53 tries to be a fine dining spot. The environment looks okay for romantic dating kind of thing. They also serve tiny portions of food. But it does not taste good at all.So if you happen to be in the neighborhood and have extra money, this might be the spot. But like many other reviews said, NYC has endless good restaurants! Hope you have a better experience.
Anyone going to this restaurant be read for an amazing time. Food is unbelievable better than great. Service is great. I dont right to many reviews but this by far one of the best restaurants I have been to in a while
Everything was amazing: the food, the decor, the service, the drinks.
Very tasty food. I liked the Singaporean dishes they have, like the skate with sambal which was delicious. One thing I didnt like is the size vs price/amount comparison of some of the appetizers. 3 thumb sized portions of foie gras $45!? Thats very pricey!
My new favorite restaurant! Had: skate, duck pie tee, lobster fried rice, toro tartare. 2 rounds of cocktails and dessert for a lil over $300, not including tip. Service was impeccable and we will absolutely come back and try more dishes!!
Food and services was meh. The environment was good
Very good
One of my favourite restaurants in the city!
Excellent food and service overall. Miso black cod rice bowl was amazing but skip the scallops.
