The service and decor at this restaurant are nice, on par with fine dining standards, but the taste of several dishes we tried did not meet our expectations.Firstly, the seasoning on the main course chicken was uneven—some parts were overly salty while others were bland. This inconsistency didn’t feel like a deliberate attempt by the chef to add complexity, but rather like a mistake in the seasoning process, which was disappointing. Additionally, while the presentation of the appetizers was visually appealing and vibrant, the flavors were not particularly impressive compared to some less expensive restaurants, coming across as somewhat monotonous and simple. On the positive side, the fish entrée and the cheese-themed dessert were more memorable, with the texture and flavors hitting the right notes. However, another downside was the location of the restroom. There is no restroom inside the restaurant itself; instead, you have to exit and go upstairs to the second floor. The stairs are quite steep, making it inconvenient.Overall, while the service and decor were commendable and some dishes stood out, other aspects of the food fell short, and the restroom location was inconvenient. As a fine dining experience, it was somewhat below average.Update:Hi Reuben,Thank you for replying to my Google review. I appreciate your acknowledgment of my feedback and your commitment to refining the dishes at Vestry. It’s great to hear that my comments on the seasoning and flavors will help in your continuous improvement efforts.I look forward to experiencing Vestry again and will definitely reach out to you directly when planning my next visit. Thanks again for your attention.Best regards,D Guo

This visit to Vestry was an interesting one. Earlier in the day I was told that it’s pretty disappointing but i decided to keep my reservation. The staff was extremely attentive, the space was beautiful and the food was very tasty.I’m eating this a 4 star because it was better than most but not so good that I need to go back asap.As I do in all Michelin star restaurants I went with the tasting menu. They had 2 options, which was nice. Every dish was cooked extremely well and the flavors were concentrated and intense. Technically the food was great and the presentation was quite nice. I do wish there would have been a little more creativity in the dishes, which is why I’m in no rush to return.I would certainly go back, but after I try out some more places on the guide.

My partner and I decided to treat ourselves to a date night yesterday and we are still talking about our experience. We were greeted with warmth and sat at a lovely corner table facing the entire restaurant. The environment was classy and comfortable featuring soft cozy seating (which is lacking in some upscale spots) which set the tone for relaxation and immediately made us excited to scan the menu. We started with bread and their house mushroom butter (which I wish I had a case of) followed by tuna tartare that was so flavorful and yet so light as well as the burrata which I highly recommend as a sort of palate cleanser as it is fresh and hums of spring. We indulged in a plate of gnocchi which honestly knocked my socks off and made me sink into my seat (or it could have been the well balanced cocktails we were sipping on - get The Underdog if you like rye). Now we get to the main players which proved to be classic, simple and very well done - the lamb as well as the wagyu. I appreciate that the proteins were featured with delicate reductions and seasonal greenery really honoring the ingredients. We wrapped up the night with a little dessert spread with the sorbet being our favorite and also such a fun presentation. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the extraordinary service from beginning to end with Sammy being our guide with excellent explanations of all dishes and Adam who set us up and proved to be an accommodating and gracious host. We can’t wait to go back and indulge yet again in this fantastic experience.

Everything we ate was amazing. The wait staff was helpful , quick and attentive. We went for NYC restaurant week and look forward to going again and trying new dishes. The risotto was phenomenal , the local cod with squash spaghetti was heavenly. Cocktails were strong and came with a nice presentation, highly recommend Smoke & fire. This was a great culinary experience and no complaints whatsoever.

Beautiful presentations, creative dishes and fast and friendly service. The steak tartare, gnocchi and the burrata were stand outs. The entree options were generally meh, so I’d focus in on the starters.Very stylish interior and it’s generally easy to get reservations here. A very accessible choice for someone looking to knock off a Michelin star in NYC. It’s a bit bonkers to charge $12 for bread though.

I came here on a Tuesday with another person for dinner. The restaurant was quiet and beautifully decorated. The host was very nice, as was our waiter, mixologist and the food servers. We ordered the Parmesan milk bread which was OK but the real stand out is the butter they serve with it. We next got the Local Burrata (which was too stiff and cold for my liking; maybe it came directly out of the fridge but I didn’t like the consistency), Tuna Tartare (which was excellent!), and the mussels (which came with a foam on top and were also excellent). For my main, I ordered the Bucatini and it was delicious! The sauce was smoky and overall the dish was not too heavy, but hearty enough to be felt. I also ordered a mezcal Negroni as an aperitif and liked it so much I drank it with my meal, too.Overall, this place is a solid choice and I would come back.

I am absolutely appalled by the response from Vestry to an honest customer review. Instead of addressing feedback professionally, the restaurant chose to attack the individual with offensive and degrading language, which is unacceptable for any business, let alone a Michelin-starred establishment. Hospitality is about respect and grace under all circumstances, and Vestry has clearly failed in both. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone who values professionalism and customer care. This behavior is shameful and reflects poorly on the establishment.

This was in many ways disappointing. One Michelin star restaurant, the seats were a little tight together but had comfortable first to sit on. Im sure seemed good but in the middle of the meal they turned up the lights and changed up the music, made for a really interesting change of ambiance that cut the atmosphere. Coat check upfront and seating outside included lights and heaters. We were a group of 12 so we had a pre fixe menu. 1st course I chose the maitake mushrooms which had a lot of barley and squash but not a lot of mushrooms. Still, it came in a good broth. The second course I chose the sushi rice which was fantastic for the first two bites but then rapidly became way too sour and almost like mayo going into the second half of the bowl. It was overwhelming and could have been really good with something crunchy, and being a much smaller portion. The hamachi rose was a fantastically balanced pear and yellowtail flower, definitely worth getting another time.Main course had the cod which was mostly lacking flavor other than the coriander sauce, which I dont like cilantro so that was probably a bad choice overall. Finally the orange dessert at the end was a panna cotta which was super sour and wasnt creamy or sweet like I expected. It was difficult to eat more than a bite as literally it felt like eating a warhead. The cheesecake was too cheesy according to my colleague but the Apple mouse was really tasty.Overall I wasnt enjoying my dishes, and the taste that I had of everyone elses dishes (they were kind enough to share a bite of many of the dishes) made me think that it wasnt the exception. The various iterations of sushi or fish were all done pretty solidly, but not spectacularly outside of the hamachi rose.

Its always fun to try menus with a lot of inspirations from foreign cuisines. Unlike many Japanese-inspired places, the appearance of each dish shared a lot of similarities to authentic Japanese dish, but each dish had delicate touches to keep them very unique. We were advised to pick at least one appetizer and one entree and order together. They emphasized on how kitchen could arrange orders in the most appropriate sequences. This pre-fixe style makes sense, but I somehow felt a little nervous to order, as there were many variables and I found more interesting-sounding dish in the appetizer section. I would recommend people to visit in group of four or more, so you get to order more dish without hesitation.Entering the door, overlooking its interior, to receiving the first drink are all chique New American type of experience, until I got to see the food menu. Although the atmosphere felt a little tense in the beginning, all staffs were friendly and we got to be very comfortable immediately.

Went with the 5-course tasting menu and wow, WoW, Wowie. Every course was delicious but when I go back it will be for the tuna tartare, oysters & caviar and the gnocchi. So elevated and beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined happening in my mouth. It was delectable. Service was kinda weird, a bit of a language barrier but honestly I didn’t care as long as my food was amazing, which it was. My photos really don’t do the food justice since I wanted to taste the food immediately after it was placed in front of me lol.

Racial Discrimination: I encountered a deeply concerning experience. We were served by a black waiter who showed discriminatory behavior towards Asians, which was quite unexpected and unacceptable, especially in a Michelin 1-star restaurant. Unlike other tables, we were only provided with the Restaurant Week menu, which had only two dishes and cost 60/pp, but he gave full menu for every table around us and was very enthusiastic, until I asked him where is the full menu. He indifferently poured tap water straight to us and splashed water on the table, contrasting sharply with the attentive service he provided to other patrons: ask each table if they wanted still or sparkling water, except us. It was ridiculous. Given these circumstances, I felt that not tipping would not lead to self-reflection but might reinforce negative stereotypes. Therefore, I chose directly request assistance from the management, complaining and told him I wanted a different waiter. While I appreciate the managements response, the experience has left me reluctant to revisit. I believe its important to share such feedback to promote a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all patrons. (Cost 290 before tax and tipped 60 to our new waiter, if I tipped the previous one 60 for that service I would definitely regret it the whole way home)

Probably not worth the Michelin rating. Started with the Nori Chips. They had the chip aspect but were bland. Second, the hamachi was beautifully presented but just okay. Decent, hotel based restaurant. For the money, I felt the food and service were average. For example, the chicken was dry and bland. And, I had to ask three different servers for a cocktail refresh.Heavy use of saffron on many dishes (from starters through mains to desserts) makes them feel less unique.

I still give it a five star because this restaurant has a lot going for it. The decor and the staff are excellent. The food is great but curiously a couple of things are really not impressive even cheap tasting. This is the case for the Nori chips and the tuna toast they currently have on the menu.I’m not sure I’d drive 30 min to get there but it’s a nice restaurant that doesn’t deserve anything less than five star.

Food overall is pretty decent, the potato Ravioli would have been the best dish if it weren’t there was a single tiny little piece of spices that was hard to chew on. The appetizer Sea-bass was quite good, the smoked chicken skin was crispy enough while the meat is still tender, but it was tasteless by itself, you have to eat it together with the mash potatoes or the peas. Portion wise is your standard Michelin restaurant portion so they are a bit small in American standard but this way you get to try out different dishes. Service wise it was acceptable but not really good enough for a fine dining restaurant (e.g. they lack of the explanation of chef’s recommendation on how to eat the dishes, they are not observant enough etc) Music was a bit too loud and the music choice (hip hop, R&B, Pop)not sure it matches the restaurant. Cocktail wise it was a bit watery. The Riesling wine was not bad.

Very poor service. Yes, you pace food course in a fine dining, however it seemed they had forgotten us and we had to keep checking each time. Our server’s communication wasn’t great and when I asked him about red wine recommendations he kept pointing at the menu, covering the print on the menu book which made it very difficult for me to read the selections. Above all the AC was very high, and you need to be prepared to wear fall clothing in July!

Come here for drinks, skip the food. Cocktails are creative and yummy. My favorite food item was the wagyu steak, it was cooked nicely, no overcooking on the outside at all and the inside was completely red. We were staying at the Dominick and decided to make it easy and dine next door. What a fantastic choice. This is a dining experience on par with its Michelin star. I loved the service more than in any other Michelin I’ve dined in because the staff is exceptionally authentic. We were seated quickly and treated to the bread and butter. It sounds so simple but it was a precursor to the fantastic food ahead. You have to eat the bread and butter. The soy is a different experience and one you’ll want to have. We elected to order the food and then get a wine recommendation from the Sommelier. She was very nice and really looked at what we were eating to make a recommendation. We ended up with a nice bottle of Champagne that just worked. I chalk it up to her excellent abilities. The Waygu and Beef Cheek were perfectly cooked and really exceeded expectations. There’s not that much to say about it other than it’s a very refined, well balanced plate and I would absolutely recommend it. Portions are quite a bit so some hungry. For dessert we went with the cheese cake. It’s whimsical and delicious. I don’t often get dessert but this is one of the items I’m glad I did.All in all it’s a fabulous restaurant that will absolutely meet your high expectations. The price won’t shock you either. For as good as it is I found it to be a really good value.

We also had to order 3 different bottles of wine because they could not find them or did not have them, so we started eating with empty wine glasses and a confused somolie. The ambience is really good for dating, I came with a friend but the people around us all looked like couples, and all people seems to enjoy their time very much. However, the food is not as impressive as the ambience. Maybe because of restaurant weeks set is lower in price, I ordered chicken (sorry forgot the name, but you can check the picture) and felt the food is a little bit salty and sweet at the same time, instead of multiple distinct but harmonic flavors that I usually expected to have in the meal of this level of the restaurants. My friend had their famous cheese-shape cheese cake as her dessert, that is the best over the all dishes, but still a little bit too sweet.I wont say its disappointing because the foods were fine, just not to the level I thought they could be.

We came here for the 2024 summer restaurant weeks. It was $60 pp. However the food quality is quite disappointing and far from a Michelin star expectations. The service was average, not bad but not as good as it should be for a star restaurant. None of the dishes is impressive. They are average, at best. The fluke was dry as cardboard, I was flabbergasted by how dry it was. The strawberry soup was also poor execution, very sour taste and that’s all. Other dishes are really average, it’s easy to find other places that are much better.

Excellent food. Very much relying on the quality of the ingredients and à point preparation. The tastes are straight without any surprise sophistication. You may wonder if you can expect more of a 1-star Restaurent (Guide Michelin). The service is attentive without any formal or ceremonial style to it. Tables are bistro style without table cloths/linen. The utensils and dinnerware are. stylish. Noise level medium. Good for a urban-night hip dinner, but do not expect a European-style formal haute cuisine type restaurant.

I planned our 2021 Christmas Eve dinner in July and the untalented team of Chefs was incapable of creating an amuse bouche, appetizer, entree, or dessert I was able to eat. Instead of saying, Nope, go somewhere else, they just stole my $$. They flat refused to provide a meal I could eat and refused to let me pass on dining. The $900 bill was a joke. They served up, no amuse- nothing-zero-goose egg, mushrooms & cream goop, slop risotto a 3rd grader made, and gimmicky diary desserts. This menu is innovation just for the sake of innovation. A Michelin star feels GENEROUS. Too overly complex to enjoy dinner without the conversation inevitably being about the meal...in a way that brings more questions than answers. The salmon (the easiest fish in the world) was pretty good, but not mind blowing. But caramelized rice? Why? Rice is already a beautiful thing. I ended up feeling nauseous after Day 2 of dinner. Also not sure I love the cheesecake literally coming with a faux mouse on the plate. This is New York City. Were outdoor dining, babe. I’ve been working with hospitality projects for the past four years, and I’ve realized that the quality of service is paramount. You can have world-class cuisine and an exceptional wine selection, but rude service can tarnish the experience instantly. On the other hand, even with less sophisticated food, a memorable and attentive staff can make a place stand out. It is surprising that a restaurant of this caliber would have a manager who argued with every table during our visit. Whoever you are, you’d better quit and learn manners first.

Note: you will be charged $8 per person for water, on top of whatever else you may order. No, they will not inform you of this when they ask your preference for still or sparkling (I asked for still - usually an economical choice).Overall, this restaurants main issue is its value. If everything cost 25% less, I would have left having had a much more positive experience. The specialty cocktails we ordered were strong, but pretty uninspired in terms of flavor. They would have been fine for the standard NYC price of $15 each - for $21, they felt a bit lacking. The food was expertly prepared - but again a bit lacking for the price. A 2-course dinner for $60 (not including water) can be acceptable if the courses are sufficiently filling and inventive. Of the 4 dishes we tried, the shrimp rose to this standard. Two other courses - the hen of the woods and the salmon crudo - were delicious, but pretty stingy. The wild mushroom risotto was unfortunately pretty one-note, however, and strangely devoid of mushrooms.I generally loathe the cliche that the portions at fancy restaurants are so small you leave hungry. Then again, maybe thats because this is the first time its happened to me.The service was polite, but a bit slow. I would normally ignore this, but I was informed on arrival that they needed the table back by 7pm, and my reservation was for 5:45pm. Like the food and the drinks, this felt a bit stingy. Supposedly you can order dessert a la carte after youve finished your $60 2-course dinner, but devil if I know how youre supposed to have the time.We opted not to stay for dessert. And we managed to give the table back on time, if only barely.Would I come back? Sure, if somebody else is paying. But I might suggest a couple other places to them first.

The food is innovative and has a flair in the presentation, especially in the desserts. Be aware that the portion sizes are a bit on the smaller side. I recommend that for two people with regular sized appetites, get more than one appetizer each to share - two or three ought to be good. Then, get a main course for each and maybe a couple of the desserts. Cocktails or wine pairings are also a good idea. Ill definitely keep this on my list of places to go, especially for a date.

While this isnt entirely the restaurants fault, they shouldnt cram in so many tables, especially considering theyre a Michelin-starred establishment — theyre not a diner!

Very disappointing meal and the service was atrocious. Highlight was the tuna and everything else was a disappointment. The steak was dry and had no flavor. Another 1 star Michelin restaurant from my bucket list. Lucky today is restaurant week. I can come down and try it out. Food is good. Calamari is super crispy. Service is excellent. The corn soup tastes so sweet. Pork belly is a little too fatty for me today. The tomatoes salad is very refreshing. The wagyu steak is good. Salmon with seaweed is a little bit too salty and doesn’t blend well. The chicken is so soft. The cheesecake is phenomenon. Baked peach is good too. Overall I give it a full score

Not quite sure how this restaurant has a Michelin star. Food was simply weird tasting. Warm oysters (tiny portion) with Granny Smith apple foam? Hokkaido scallops (tiny portion) in a guava/passion fruit cream sauce? The Wagyu was good, only because it was wagyu. The food was definitely not Michelin star quality nor was it worth the price we paid. The saving grace for me was the amazing bread and house-made butter. The staff was a mix as our waiter was helpful and friendly, but the hosts were somewhat dismissive.Overall, would only come back to see the waiter, Sami.

The 2 dessert options were equally bad, we almost only had one bite. The waiting time for each dishes was about half an hour. Service charge included already. Can’t take it off for long wait time. The food is overall not bad. However, I must say something about their restaurant week menu. DON’T order wagyu. It charges $40 more, while on the ordinary menu the price is no more than $20 than other dishes also in the restaurant week menu.At the end, a mandatory tip of about 20% was added to the bill, without notifying me. On the printed credit card check there was also room for tips. Their service is nowhere close to the tip they charge.I’m very sorry to see that they make every effort to charge more, instead of improving the dining experience.

I was staying at the hotel where Vestry is located. I walked in by myself wanting a quick light dinner. After a week of heavy restaurant meals I was craving a simple green salad.Too bad ‘cause the Vestry menu seems to have exorcised the color green. No salad or any other green vegetable option on the menu.I decided to try my luck with the waiter and asked if they could make a simple green salad. Most good waiters would have said let me check with the kitchen. My waiters simply cut me off with “we don’t do salads really”. I saw lettuce on other people’s plates as bed for some dishes. So they clearly had lettuce. How difficult could it have been to grab some, put it on a plate and sprinkle some olive oil. Any restaurant that can’t do that should not be in business.PS but the oysters I ended up having were AMAZING.

Our experience at Vestry was not what was expected coming from a Michelin star chef of that caliber. Our dinner took over 4 hours. We didnt receive our first dish until 1 hr into the meal and there was no communication from the GM nor the server (to whom we didnt even know who our server was). At this point we had only had one beverage and was not offered another, until we asked. We had to send back a dish or two due to poor execution and flavor. We informed another server that the tuna toast wasnt too our liking and they kindly removed it. There was clearly no communication with our server, GM nor kitchen because the same dish came back out with completley different toppings and still soggy bread. Our server came by the table and asked how everything was, we told him we didnt want the dish as it was the same, just with different toppings. He said okay can I get you another one? Not knowing that this was our 2nd try. The GM came out a bit later and said guess we cant win with the tuna toast, I think we should just move on. I dont understand this kind of service where the GM mocks the guests, kind of rude. We then waited anther 1hr for our next round of small plates. Directly after the clear and heading into what we thought would be our entrees, a runner drops random garlic soups at our table and walks away, with no explanation of the dish. We assumed these were compliments of the kitchen, but yet no communication as we did not order these and all we wanted was our food. The soup was so overpowering with garlic that the rest of the meal was compromised. None of the dishes matched the opening presentation nor social media. I am sober and was served a vodka based Moscow mule (not sure how this happened). The mocktails were un drinkable so I switched to ginger beers. At this point the GM was no where to be found, didnt touch the table, didnt apologize for the miscommunication and drastic delays between courses. We understand its trying times right now, but its the GMs responsibility to make the guest experience flawless no matter whats going on behind the scenes. We didnt feel welcomed, it felt like service not hospitality and we genuinely felt disrespected with how everything unfolded. Especially when the GM comps 50% of the check and cant even drop it himself. We will not be back and we really hope that chef can correct this, especially when hes away from the restaurant like last night and his team is running the ship.

Everything was exquisite. I had the 4 course prix fixe meal, which included a nori chip with a spicy salmon tartare, asparagus with jidori yolk, koji and affila cress, the sushi rice, and Wagyu w/ shiitake mushrooms in a burgundy sauce. The Wagyu stole the show. Crispy, seared crust and a tender, savory, succulent bite. The cheesecake was decadent. I loved the unexpected hint of saffron. I got complimentary dark chocolate honeycomb chocolates that left quite an impression, as I craved more the next day. The house bread was warm and tasty and the shiso butter was an interesting enhancement of flavor. The ambience and location were perfect and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. I saw the chef walk by and I regret being too shy to wave and give my compliments. I’d love to come back.

I was very excited to try this modern Soho spot after they received their first Michelin star. The inside is gorgeous, and their outdoor setup is also well done. However, the service and food was disappointing. They may have been understaffed, but our group waited over 30 minutes for someone to take our drink orders. We had to ask for bread to be brought out. The steak was over cooked but the restaurant was great about correcting it right away and brought out another steak quickly. One main course dish was cold when served - seems like it was sitting around for a while while they prepared the other dishes. Then when the check came, they mischarged our cards. The food was underwhelming for a restaurant at this level. There was a very fun cocktail that’s served over dry ice so you get a fog effect!

So I’d like to start w we came all the way from Denver, Colorado!BUT -The staff was amazing! Went above & beyond to service us. However the food was good but not enough to wow us for being Michelin star! We wanted something that could WOW us in order to come back next time. It’s a place we’d recommend to try for a one time thing but I think that’s really it.We ordered quite a bit of food. I’ll run you down about each item we ordered. Also the cocktails were good but not strong. We got the nutty professor & chile mandarin or something like that!& a mojito.Nutty professor - good the first time (came the night b4 just for drinks)& not good the second time tonight.Chile mandarin - was okay just a bit weak.Mojito - tasted like minty water @ lime.(Not pictured) sorry!FIRST. The bread & butter! Wow. The butter was soo good! Savory & not too salty. Bread was good!Nori Chips - a bit salty. But good flavor.Chu toro - REALLY good! Was fresh, & tart & the flavors just paired w eachother nicely. OUR FAVORITE. A must try. Literally was so perfect!Big eye tuna - SUPER salty. The chip was a nice balance to it, just a sesame chip nothing special or crazy about it.Snake River Wagyu - SOO tender! Flavors were there & also SUPER salty… I think it was crusted w Parmesan? Not sure but it was soo salty! The potato purée though was very good & balanced it kind of but not really…Seared Foie Gras - this was good! Our Foie gras was a bit cold in the middle but that’s okay! Overall it was perfect. I think this was our second favorite LOLSushi rice - also salty! & eventho’ it was tasty. We were hoping for something to just hit us w that wow factor that we sadly didn’t get. This was one of the dishes we were looking forward to, but it wasn’t really all that… you could probably make this yourself @ home if I’m being honest lol. & if you do make it @ home, add maybe some yuzu to add some balance & maybe some mandarin oranges to give it some sweetness bc this was pretty salty. & you can’t really taste the wasabi.Cheese cake & apple - this I was hoping for it to be the STAR of it all. But the cheesecake part was okay… tasted kind of like the laughing cow cheese 🫢 the waiter told me it had saffron in it too. But literally on a scale of 1-10 like a 2…The way it look’s definitely 10/10 but flavor a 2… the apple… tasted like minced up apple w some lemon & cinnamon… that too nothing was wow about it…The chocolate was on the house! Not sure what it was called but it’s like a honeycomb covered in chocolate but not a real honeycomb but more so like a sugar that was burned enough to look like a honeycomb. Was good! This was way better than the cheesecake FORSURE!Overall - it was good but not wow.Would we come back? Definitely not.Was it a good experience, yes.Was the food worth it? NO.Also, we finished ALL our food…Bc we felt like if we spent $150+ a person, we needed to finish. The only thing we didn’t finish was the cheesecake… after we left we ate ramen & korean bulgogi. So even after eating all our food, + dessert… $400 later. Still hungry 😂

We came to Vestry on a recent outing looking for a place to sit and chill out after a nice afternoon in Central Park. We didn’t have reservations and arrived a little after they were opened for the day. They have an outdoor pavilion for outdoor dining but we opted for indoor seating. We were the only ones inside which was nice. The staff were very friendly and professional. The decor was good and the selection of flatware and cutlery added nice touches to the enjoyment of the food and experience. The menu is concise and you’ll find something to enjoy and be able to share. We ordered the nori chips, warm oysters and fried chicken. And we had two rounds of drinks. All were surprising and beyond satisfying. It was enough food for the both of us. Everything was beautifully presented. The warm oysters were our favorite. If you enjoy oysters on a half shelf offer raw bar foods then you will most likely enjoy this too. It’s similar in that instead of chilled oysters, they are warm and not fully cooked. It already comes dressed with an umami dressing that pairs well with the briny oysters and finishes off with a delicate apple taste that also cleanses the palate. The limited time cocktail “out of the woods” was absolute sublime mainly for the fact that it is a warm cocktail and served from a Japanese iron teapot and poured into a beautiful teacup with saucer. We look forward to returning for a nice quiet and relaxing respite of hanging out in the city.

I was disappointed by Vestry, and my three stars are an attempt at objectivity. About a decade ago I stumbled into a restaurant near Wall Street named SHO that was a transcendent dining experience. The chef, a Shaun Hergatt from Australia, created a mind blowing Asian fusion menu with the creativity of an Alinea and a taste explosion reminiscent of Jean-Louis Palladin. I ate at SHO every time I was in New York and sent dozens of people to eat there. Sadly, SHO closed, but Chef Hergatt continued to open restaurants in NYC. Vestry is his latest.Located in the former Trump Soho Hotel, the space has been home to several restaurants. The decor of Vestry may be a mixture of all of them. I didn’t get it. A cross between a flashy banquet hall and a Las Vegas nightclub, it was uncomfortably jarring to look at and did nothing to enhance our experience. Service was all over the place, with a cadre of people serving, pouring and removing. They filled the spaces between the tables scurrying about, only adding to the cacophony of noise. Vestry is loud, and hearing our server explain the menu through her mask was next to impossible.Appetizers came out quickly and were as good as the sushi place across the street from our place in Seattle. The raw fish was fresh, but where was this chef’s talent? This man has a gift. The appetizers displayed nothing. Finally my cod entree showed Chef’s Hergatt’s delicate touch, cooked perfectly, with a sublime sauce. Bravo. Yet, the risotto was heavy, laden with cheese, tasty but not gourmet. Desserts were a mixed bag. The ice cream sandwich pedestrian, but the strawberry panna cotta sublime. I was let down by this dinner. However, the diners around me, very young, casually dressed in T Shirts and blue jeans, seemed to be having a great time. None of them ate at SHO. They did not have my expectations.Perhaps Vestry will make Chef Hergatt money and the concept will be successful. However, I yearn for his gift, his art, to have a worthy showcase. Unfortunately, art doesn’t always “put food on the table.”

Having been to almost all the Michelin star restaurants in NYC. This is without exaggeration my worst Michelin Star (1-3) experience so much so that I am taking the time to write this review.3 item pre fixe menu - which to be fair is probably not a right metric to determine their regular menu. And for the price - it would seem fair for 3 courses for 125 pp , especially for a Michelin star. For thanksgiving, the only plates I enjoyed were the Ravioli and bread. The carpaccio was mid, the Turkey wasn’t the best. We didn’t even touch much of the rissotto, which was bland and unseasoned. The main gripe I had was the service, with the exception of the gentleman who handled our waters and plates, he was great. It was more of management’s fault, the restaurant was full and they were obviously understaffed.1. After bread service , we were plated food without new utensils, how do you expect us to use a knife we used for bread and butter to use on the appetizers.2. As mentioned above the risotto was under seasoned and bland, and not once were we asked if everything was ok with the food, and trying to interrupt an already overworked server was impossible to do, they were busy the whole time. We left > 75% of the risotto and not even asked if there was an issue with it.3. Our candle went out, after the appetizers, no one thought it warranted lighting it back up, was not asked if I wanted any more wine until after we got dessert.4. After removing the risotto we spent an hour waiting for dessert ( have the pictures I took from when we were plates.) I pulled who I thought was the manager as I just wanted to pay and leave, the desire for dessert was gone. The dessert came just as I was speaking to him and not even an apology for it coming out an hour later. We ate the ice cream but left the dessert for the most part, who wants to eat after an hour. Again we were not asked if there was an issue.I would not recommend following my experience, and one of the table next to us echoed my sentiment.

We just celebrated our 8th anniversary there and it was a fantastic experience. They accidentally gave away our reserved table on this busy Friday night but we just waited a few more minutes to be situated. So it was okay. The smoked trout was amazing so were the scallops. Organic chicken and the cod for entrees tasted great too. All were so good that I forgot to take a picture.Service during dining was on point, smooth and lovely. The only thing that Im not super used to is that the inside was a lot louder than I expected. Cant really complain about that. TGIF I guess lol.

I think the food is 3.5 stars but our experience was unpleasant so 2.5.We arrived on time and got seated. All is good until we were handed a menu that has no price. At first I thought my partner was to surprise me with a preset menu but it wasn’t.Waited a bit, a waiter came to ask for our drink option (at this point we didn’t know he’s servicing our table, and thought he’s just to take the drinks). We then asked if it’s a preset menu, he said no you order whatever you want, and then pointed at our menu and gave some brief intro about a few items. We felt strange and literally thought to ourselves, maybe this Michelin did things differently. But bc there’s no price or indication of portion, we were indecisive.Five mins later he came to ask our food order, at this point I realized the waiter was officially servicing our table, so I asked him to explain the menu a bit. We then asked for five more mins to decide.I finally looked around and noticed other tables had menu that looked different. So I asked our waiter for one that has price on it. He lightly apologized and changed up. (!!)I was shocked. For the whole 20mins we felt we got gaslit to think this maybe is how fancy restaurant does it. But of course we never had such experience in much fancier places. I’d be overly apologetic to my guests if I was the waiter but he’s obviously a bit green (reciting menu details and didn’t fully understand questions) and didn’t realize the situation was very offensive. The place is also generally understaffed so I felt bad for him as well, he’s probably still in training.Food is good but if at blind tasting I wouldn’t have guessed it’s Michelin star restaurant. Service is also what tells a restaurant apart from other, and it was unfortunately underwhelming.

I have been a fan of Chef Hergatt for years. This was my first visit to Vestry post-pandemic. It was very disappointing. The tasting menu was vastly inappropriate for the season - two out of four were very heavy dishes best reserved for the cold season - braised ribs in red wine-based sauce and gnocchi which were pretty much inedible. The scallops and buratta courses were overwhelmingly acidic - astringency of the yuzu vinegar pretty much killed the delicate flavor of the scallops and the tomatoes in the buratta dish were so acidic themselves that unlike two tiny slivers of strawberries they failed to balance out the harshness of the sauce to bring it in harmony with the buratta. I do not know of any restaurant (or a diner) in NYC that managed to serve a cheesecake so spectacularly bad that it tasted like a stick of butter but Vestry has accomplished it last night. Oh and the ribs had completely unrendered chewy fat throughout and would not be edible even in the winter time. I just wonder if the chef in charge of the kitchen tastes the dishes or if he/she, perhaps, was suffering from bad allergies yesterday. The service was attentive and felt genuinely concerned I was not happy with the food. However, there was quite a bit of time between the courses and every dish was brought out by a new person. Given that there were very few people dining, it would have been nicer to get more personalized attention from the same person or at least two people. My final verdict is that the service was good but not as good as at Juni. Overall, Vestry seems to be in decline and may benefit from quite a few changes, starting with the tasting menu and, perhaps, retraining of the chefs. Chef Hergatt may want to pay closer attention.

We tried Vestry for the first time on Thanksgiving, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We decided to go back yesterday to celebrate my son’s birthday. We had a wonderful experience. We ordered from the a la carte menu. Everything was delicious, and the presentation and service were wonderful. We started by sharing the small seafood platter with a few add ons. Some of the best oysters ever! Brett was very knowledgeable and helpful. Cocktails were excellent, and the wine pairings suggested by Eitan were perfect. We also ordered the squash blossoms and the grilled hen of the woods. For main courses we had the lamb and the goat cheese agnolotti. I would highly recommend EVERYTHING!We actually saved room for desert! We shared the cheesecake, satsuma mandarin, and the jasmine panda cotta. Exquisite! We will definitely be back!

Most impressed by the butter for the bread. Hot plates for hot dishes and cold plates for cold desserts, which is nice. The texture of the meat is perfect for all the dishes I tried, juicy and tender. Pork belly is good, but size is a little too large, which may let you feel too much oil in your mouth after you finish the whole dish. I would like it more if it is sweeter. The salmon has a very earthy flavor, which should be avoided. The sauce of the chicken breast is very nice, but chicken breast itself is not a ingredient I prefer. The peach as dessert is a little too sour for me.

Lovely ambience and I appreciate the creativity in the menu. My server, Taha was the worst server Ive had in years. He probably said 4 sentences total to the table.1. Are you interested in a drink?2. What would you like to order?3. Can I show you the dessert menu?4. Would you like the check? Not only did he forget my drink (came out after dinner and ordered before food) but he never apologized or removed it from the check. At that point after dinner, I didnt even want it anymore. His bussers were great but he needs to be retrained. I served for 10 years and I know this does not fall under Michelin standards. He walks around like he cant stand to be there. The food was ok and my tapioca started to taste the same with each bite. Host is such a lovely girl!

Im not really sure how to feel about this restaurant. I had very high hopes. Waiters barely know the menu and try to up-sell you - they do not really listen to your needs & likes. Also, for a Michelin star restaurant, the Risotto came watery and undercooked, the Wagyu hard like rocks. The yellowfin tuna tartare, however, 12/10. Bill was about 600$USD for 4 people with a few drinks. For this price, I would suggest you go elsewhere.

I can’t believe they got a Michelin star but goes to show if it doesn’t match Google rating then go by Google, it’s more accurate. Dishes took forever to come out. How long does it take to cook raw scallops and warm oysters? Shrimp was over cooked. Prices astronomical but food quality very average. Not worth walking up here.

Restaurant week here was great. Sushi rice was a great dish. Good “night out” restaurant. A tasting menu would further elevate the already enjoyable experience. Would return.Edit/update upon second visit: they charged $16 for water. Seems just a bit scammy to me bcs nbd is going to ask how much non tap is if it’s not on the menu. Visited Vestry for Thanksgiving dinner with a group of six. If I could give the food and service separate scores, I would. The food was fabulous. 10/10.The service, however, was perhaps the worst I’ve had in the city. Our party sat for 40 minutes with no drinks and no food. We waited with dirty plates and empty drinks in 10-20 minute spans.I hate giving negative reviews for service because I have worked as a server. I get it. It’s a tough gig. But for a restaurant of this caliber to provide such poor service was a massive disappointment. Will be back to sit at the bar with the hopes of a better service experience. That said, I would not do table service here again, and do not recommend it.

Service and atmosphere of the restaurant were great; the food was patently mediocre. The risotto’s rice was undercooked to the point of crunchiness although the eel on top was tasty. Chu Toro (fatty tuna) was nothing standout but served in a good sauce. Scallops were unseasoned and only edible with the smoky hollandaise although together still was somewhat lacking. The daily special (duck breast) was cooked well but the “red wine sauce” was tasteless and non-existent; the rhubarb purée made the dish.

We came with our friends and their kids and our high school-aged kids and took 2 tables in the sturdy and attractive covered outdoor shelter. Temps were in the high 30’s and the staff provided electric heaters. With that we were warm enough. The manager and staff could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. Pacing was perfect for a leisurely meal. Drinks were great. The food was absolutely delicious and we had a wonderful time.Overall an excellent experience. Yum.
