Coming from Oregon, I made sure to include Blue Stripes on my visit. It was a hot & humid afternoon and I was grumpy after my thrift store shopping was unsuccessful. Blue Stripes offers their brewed cacao iced! It was a perfect lift me up- no caffeine jitters, and excellent cacao flavors that didn’t need sugar!Lots of people hanging out, working on their laptops giving such ideal coffee shop vibes.Highly recommend!!

New food finds♥️ I love it when I bumped to a place and get surprised with great food! Well, this place has more to offer than what’s on the menu. Has very intimate ambience:). They have a small sitting area with books and comfy chairs. The tap chocolate mouse is worth trying. By way it is FREE with generous serving too-so try it out! They have excellent selections of drinks as well. I tried their hotChocolate and it is absolutely amazing! For one the sweetness is just right. The temperature is perfect. The cashier was very friendly. Great place to hang out. I would definitely come back and bring friends to this place.Happy eating everyone and be well♥️.

Cozy cacao coffee shop. Blue Stripes takes the best of coffee culture and scales it to cacao (chocolate). An easy and delicious substitute for coffee in a space filled with art, books, and warm wood colors. Feels straight out of South America. Drip cacao brew score: solid! It’s essentially pure hot chocolate, so those less familiar with raw taste of cacao may opt for a cacaoccino or cacao latte. Everything else score: 5/5. Great atmosphere, variety of seating, and incredible bourekas. Additional amenities: bathroom, self-serve water, and friendly staff.

Cute little coffee shop just a block away from Union square! Came here on a Sunday evening after dinner for a nice place to catch up with some friends. The environment wasnt too loud and there was ample seating for my group of four. Got the lava cake, chocolate babka and a dark hot chocolate. The lava cake was drizzled with chocolate syrup. I loved it because the cake was warm and moist but yet not too sweet. The babka was a little sweeter but it was baked to flakey perfection and topped with a drizzle of milk and dark chocolate syrup. On top of being a cafe that serves all types of chocolatey goods, theres also a section of the store that sells cacao related merchandise. I would definitely be back to try out some other food items. Overall, I will definitely drop by again if Im in the area. This is a chocolate lovers dream come true.

This place is amazing. Honestly, it deserves one more star. They are doing things here that no one else is doing. We tried the cacao pulp juice. Incredible. Our favorite was the wild hot chocolate which is basically ground cocoa nibs and steamed condensed milk (or coconut milk). Amazing. The guy that took our order was named David and he was incredibly helpful and so nice. If you stop in ask for him. We also saw the owner (Oded Brenner himself!) working to make the place better, bussing tables and working on display cases. It’s awesome to see THE guy taking care of the place. Go here. Get the chocolate. Get a pretzel. Get the babka (oh yes it’s good). You won’t be disappointed and seriously there is no better place for hot chocolate in the city.

If you love chocolate this is the place to be!Blue stripes had a great variety of creamy hot chocolates, 100% dark hot chocolates down to all sorts of baked goods including waffles with fruits and a shot of hot chocolate on to mini doughnuts with a chocolate dipping sauce. There are white chocolate options too!The prices are around $10-12 for one of the food dishes and the hot chocolates are $5. Worth every penny, since weve been back 3 times already. Service is of average speed but its worth the wait. There is a restroom at the back and also free tap water too.Make sure to be patient to get a seat to enjoy the experience.

Love the brand and the mission but disappointed that this small shop doesnt connect as strong to its brand. They dont even sell their own chocolate bars.. really?!?!The pastries were OK. Ordered a chocolate cup, oreo cookie, apple turnover, and chocolate bundt cake. Also tried the chocolate milk with oat. All the patriots eye alright. The chocolate milk was smooth but also alright. The vibe of this spot is immaculate though. Wood and forest type design with glass windows for plenty of shine and some desks with plugs for working remote. Perfect small section to work from.Overall if they had more of their brand and emphasized more of the fact that they are upcycled or use upcucled chocolate or ingredients to be sustainable... this cafe would be much better.

High hopes and ended up very disappointed. Lemon donuts advertised as small warm fresh donut holes turned out to be a dry stale cold large donut that was simply ripped into several pieces. Was not even given the option of which chocolate fondue option I preferred (100% dark, 70% dark, milk) -- I was given whatever. The chocolate fondue did taste good, however it was tainted as there were several insects flying around the donut and chocolate, and one of them got stuck in the fondue that I had to manually remove. I also ordered a nutella mocha in a to-go paper cup, instead I was given a latte in glassware. I also ordered a black coffee, and they completely forgot the order -- I had to go and ask them after 15 minutes if they were going to actually provide the coffee. They literally forgot to get the coffee. I went around brunchtime on Saturday, there were only ~5 customers they were serving at the time, should not have been that complicated to fulfill a simple order.

However, both times Ive gone they gave it to me in a to-go cup even though I asked to stay. Its okay to ignore if you feel like youre not the only one, but then seeing everyone being nicely served with their drinks in mugs and attended more kindly definitely makes the point stick out that they want you to go and not bother to stay.

An adorable coffee shop we stumbled upon after perusing at the Holiday Market. It was a warm winter day and decided to have our cocoa fix here. The front of the store has large windows and a designated table with outlets encouraging patrons to bring their laptops to study, write, etc. The cafe is catered to patrons who want to enjoy a coffee and dessert to catch up with a friend. We drank our cocoa outside because the inside seating was packed, and it was such a warm day, it merited outdoor seating. My BF and I ordered the hot cocoa with dark chocolate and a chocolate chip cookie. They put a rim of chocolate on the cup, which is an added flare to the drink, but for warned, you will get melted chocolate on your lips. The chocolate was delicious, but it could have been warmer and less milky. I would have enjoyed a little bit more chocolate flavor since I did choose the 70% dark chocolate, but overall, I enjoyed my drink. I like the round cups it comes with and is instagrammable. A chocolate drizzled on the cookie I could do without. I like cookies as is, so make sure to let them know your preferences. Overall, a cute coffee place near Union Square.

I came in with my girlfriend to get some breakfast and although I was expecting a warm and efficient service, I was greeted with a carefree attitude. The prices are steep (2x coffees + 2 breakfast croissants and a cookie) which cost me $43.00 not including a tip, and the food was mediocre at best. The lady behind the counter that took my order seemed to be having extreme difficulties trying to process simple information, and when asked about the protein options for the breakfast items, she merely pointed at a display case instead of providing any audible response. After asking egg preferences (scrambled or poached) she then failed to even provide any egg on the sandwich, which threw me into confusion. After I brought the wrong order that was given to me to the owner, he managed to fix the issue quickly, which makes him the only saving grace of this whole interaction. For the asking price of dining here, I would not recommend.

If youre looking for a study spot with an upbeat cafe vibe with drinks options that arent just coffee then this place could be for you. But if youre actually looking to just purchase items, then be prepared to be ripped off to the max.I got the following:Cacaoccino- Basically a fancy watered down hot chocolate but if you want to buy into that its a super food alternative then its fine in price and taste. (4/5)Cheese Stick- Like if pao de queijo and croissants had a baby. Theyre tasty but a bit pricey at about $5 per tiny stick.Protein Bowl- Just dont...unless youre desperate and have money to burn, this is just a rip off. For $15 I got 3 half slices of manchego that definitely came from Costco or a Costco equivalent (actually Id say below Costco cause I have never had such bland manchego even from Costco). Along with some equally subpar prosciutto. Served over a poor excuse for a salad. No nibs as stated on the menu and they were out of the poached eggs (pretty sure they were just under staffed and didnt have the time to make one) but instead my replacement was a small 1/4 cups worth of the worst rubbery underseasoned scrambled eggs Ive ever gotten. I also wanted to try the cacao bread since cacao is their selling point but guess they dont serve that anymore either. The saving grace was a nice slice of thick multigrain seeded toast. Well half a slice... (0/5)Overall come here to study/work but come in knowing that first and foremost this is a spot designed to lure in Parsons students and that what you pay for is probably gonna be decently overhyped and overpriced.

Chocolate taste was mediocre at best. This place is a gimmick for unique chocolate dishes most likely to make up for the actual taste. Menu and product display is confusing. Prices are high for low quality again you pay for the gimmick. Staff is friendly but they are incompetent in correctly making an order. There are way better dessert bars in town then to waste a trip here.

Nothing against the food and coffee here, but the service is terrible. In the last two times I’ve been here they have forgot to make my order and/or left out a key ingredient in the order. Seems like the have a turnover problem and low standards for employment. Sadly I won’t be returning - it’s NYC, there are too many options to deal with poor service. I hope one day the service matches the food!

A comfortable and charming little shop with some interesting items. I tried the hot chocolate (just okay), the hazelnut chocolate striped cake, and the chocolate dipped nyc-street-style pretzel. The cake was alright, very sweet, with a crunchy layers rather than mousse or soft ganache layers. The pretzel was really yummy, with the salt adding a nice counterpoint to sweet melted chocolate. Pretty messy to eat though. The cafe staff were kind and friendly, but the items are served on flat cardboard plates with wooden spoons that were really unpleasant to eat with. If I go back, Ill bring my own cutlery! If you like chocolate but dont like things too sweet, stay away from the milk chocolate. 🍫❤️🍫

This place looked amazing from the pics and reviews I saw. I got a couple of things to try, the chocolate covered pretzel (milk chocolate) and a Nutella Foam Cloud drink. The pretzel was amazingly chocolatey and absolutely scrumptious with the right amount of salt to offset the sweetness. However, the Nutella drink was not to my liking, or of the liking of anyone else in my party, it had a weird taste that just didnt sit right with any of us. I think this is the first time Ive ever had anything at all to negatively say anything about a Nutella infused product.Overall, the place was a great find and I would definitely go back and try other chocolatey goodness. The ambiance was quietish, with people sitting towards the front doing some work and others carrying on low-volume conversations. Id recommend checking it out, if you need some more chocolate in your life.

Ive been here several times since it opened. There are several things I love about this place. First of all, it is owned by Max Brenner. The quality of the desserts is amazing, and I believe there is even more variety. The chocolate really tastes like chocolate and everything is rich and decadant. The second thing is, it is casual. Unlike Max Brenner, it is smaller and more like a cute cozy cafe than a restaurant. So if you feel like stopping in for a dessert and a coffee, this is the place! You dont have to wait on a waitress or feel bad for not ordering a full meal. No negative things to say about this place. If you love chocolate, go here!!
