Everything about this wine bar is great. The food is high quality and extremely delicious. My boyfriend and I were blown away by every bite we had, and both agreed the food is one of the best in Manhattan. The wine selection is also excellent. The service is top tier, with both the owner and servers being extremely attentive and pleasant. You can tell that the owner puts pride into his work and cares deeply about every detail. I noticed him going from table to table and having real conversations about the food, and I enjoyed hearing about the story of the menu, and where he got all his ideas from. The atmosphere is also very relaxing and pleasant. I particularly liked the giraffe theme, and I thought the artwork featured on the walls was beautiful. Overall I had a great experience at The Purple Tongue and would love to go back.

I recently had the pleasure of having brunch with friends at The Purple Tongue, and it was a wonderful experience. The service was attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home. The food was delicious, with perfect seasoning and fresh ingredients that really stood out. The pastries were a delightful treat, each bite better than the last. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and cozy, creating an intimate atmosphere perfect for gatherings. Though its not large, the size adds to its charm. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a delightful brunch spot!

Beautiful restaurant, wonderful service, the food and wine are delicious. They also do a range of sake cocktails which taste really good. It’s elegant, cozy spot to catch up with friends in mid town west/ Hell’s Kitchen area. I hope more people can discover and visit this place for a lovely meal/ night out.

Food is delicious but nothing was outstanding. They all met expectations so nothing to complain about.Very very friendly service. Had to knock off a star - we ordered matcha tiramisu as the dessert. My friends really want to try their matcha tiramisu on the menu. However the server didnt inform us that they only have the traditional tiramisu until they put it on our table. Had we known that the matcha tiramisu was no longer available, we wouldnt have ordered it. We were shocked and a little upset about the timing our server informed us. The regular tiramisu is okay, a little too sweet. They have wine flights and shochu cocktails (they dont taste like regular cocktails and you dont get to swap out with another one so be aware).Im not sure about visiting again in near future.Reservation not needed as they arent busy on weekday nights.Very quiet place in the center of the busy neighborhood.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic restaurant and I must say, it was an incredible experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for the rest of the evening. One of the things that stood out to me immediately was the extensive wine list. As a wine enthusiast, I was thrilled to see such a diverse and carefully curated selection. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helped me select the perfect bottle to pair with my meal.In addition to the impressive wine selection, the restaurant also boasts a rotating art gallery every month. It was such a delight to be surrounded by beautiful artwork as I enjoyed my meal.Speaking of the meal, it was absolutely delicious. Each dish was perfectly balanced and expertly prepared. The Burrata with roasted red beets, pistachio, and fresh herbs was a standout, as was the Mediterranean Grilled Octopus with roasted eggplant puree and black olive crumbs. The Short Ribs, which were slow roasted grass-fed beef with celery root puree, were tender and flavorful.I also appreciated the attention to detail in the presentation of each dish. The Cappellacci filled with ricotta & spinach and sautéed in butter & sage was not only delicious, but also beautifully presented. To top it all off, the coffee selection and desserts were equally impressive. The matcha tiramisu was out of this world and the perfect end to a truly memorable meal.Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The combination of exceptional food, extensive wine selection, rotating art gallery, and impeccable service make for a truly wonderful dining experience.

Wanted to finish the evening in a wine bar, saw the high score and dragged my husband there. It was quiet, welcoming and nice with a friendly staff.Ordered Burrata, crudo and mussels.Returned the burrata. It didnt look like your typical burrata nor tasted like it, more like a big ball of Mozzarella de buffalo. No charge for that one.The Mussels had crunchy bites (dont know from what) couldnt finish it, the crudo was nice, I would love it to have been with more taste and more fresh.Wine was greatTotal 120$ (one first, one main, two wine flights and water)

What a gem this place is! The atmosphere and the staff are very welcoming and warm. Starting from the delicious wine, I had the Bold Red Flight, I was instantly transported back to my homeland (Puglia, Italy) though the masterfully prepared dishes. Apart from the super fresh Burrata and Ricotta, imported straight from Puglia every week, I was in awe of the Octopus and Mussels and I had the Daily Special, the Pasta alla Norma, perfectly at dente! The dessert was such a treat too, I had the matcha tiramisu, that I absolutely recommend! The cherry on top was listening to the wonderful Marty Elkins and her musicians, who provided the most enchanting soundtrack to a perfect dinner!

Everything was exceptional: food, service, and setting. Undoubtedly one of the best brunches I have had in the the city. The setting is warm, refined, and welcoming, with beautiful art pieces on display and enjoyable background music that ensures conversations are private without adding noise. The waitress was attentive, humorous, but never overbearing. The owner/ barista takes pride in his craft and will take time to explain kindly and passionately the different coffee offerings (which were remarkably flavorful and balanced). The frittata was fresh, fluffy, and perfectly seasoned. The avocado toast was delicious, with perfectly toasted bread covered with a generous amount of tasteful avocado mash. Those were topped with perfectly poached eggs that tasted farm-fresh, without any aftertaste. The pain au chocolat was a perfectly layered, airy and buttery scrumtiousness. This was such a delightful find. Will certainly be back to try the dinner menu.Update:Been back multiple times, never disappoints or wavers below exceptional in every single aspect. The attention to detail is in everything, down to the coffee which is much better than all the excellent coffee shops in the area. Eating here is an experience you owe yourselves. Regularly.

Came here on a Friday for Happy Hour. I walked in a week ago to ask to reserve a table for our group of 6 for happy hour, and they put me on Resy and told me that they reserved the couch for me. When I arrive on the day, they told me that they dont allow reservation for Happy Hour, I argued that they told me that i can have the couch and it was reserved. then they told me that the other waiter made the mistake, but it was on Resy for the whole week no one contacted me. in the end we had to sit outside because my couch was taken. it was a cold day, after 30mins we saw the couch empty so we moved inside after. It was a very unpleasant experience that they made a mistake but I had to take the hit.the food are mediocre and the happy hour menu definitely got smaller than people posted from before, not many choices for food or drinks. The owner was super nice, but i wish the other servers can step up their games. not my choice to come back again.Edited after saw the comment from the owner:no, we were rejected to be seated on the couch and we were placed outside because someone else took the couch. If the server told the owner it was reserved for me that’s a lie. The owner greeted us outside on our table and gave us sunflowers OUTSIDE. We only moved inside after the people on the couch left.

Unfortunately racism is alive and well in NYC. I entered this establishment to buy a drink and use the restroom. The waiter was very nasty to me and refused to allow me to buy a drink nor use the restroom despite the fact that there several tables still dining and drinking at the bar. He literally ran up to me and was hostile immediately upon my entrance. I left disappointed and confuse by this man’s nastiness but I was able to have a sugar drop shot and use the restroom next door. I felt compelled to share this review because of the horrible hurt and racism I felt I this moment. I feel that type of behavior needs to put of display if it is ever going to change.(Updated in Response to the Owners Comment Below)I entered the restaurant, which did not have a closed sign up, the door was unlocked, and several guests were eating at the bar and tables. The bar which is the directly in front of the door did not have a bar tender present, I headed to the bathroom but got my wallet ready to prove that I was planning to be a paying costumer. The owner/ waiter then jumped up abruptly as if I was some lunatic or threatening. I explained my intentions, he said they were closed and I couldn’t use the restroom in what I perceived as an overly harsh and nasty manner. I accepted his words but I expressed that it was unnecessary to speak to me in such a tone. I strongly believe his actions were fueled by racism and prejudiced.I only returned to scan the yelp barcode which was next to the restaurant door. The same man then unlocked the restaurant door and came out to say nasty words again to me. I told him I intended to write reviews about his behavior and walked away. All these exchanges were very much unnecessary and very frustrating.

The artwork is beautiful, disappointing a little too large for my suitcase. Best evening in Manhattan! 5 stars for sure!

This spot is unexpectedly cool, considering the location. The wine options are varied and exceptional, the service is amazing, and if you’re fortunate to garner Rufino as your bartender, count yourself lucky. He’s got great recommendations, a wonderful bar side manner, and the loviest personality one could ask for!

Lovely neighborhood wine bar and restaurant, easy walking distance from theaters. Cozy ambience with excellent food. We started with the endive salad and got the salmon and cappelletti pasta special. Everything was well prepared, especially the fresh pasta. We also enjoyed our sweet vermouths.

This is an incredible neighborhood gem, and not because the food is so amazing, which it is, but because the owners greet you with such warmth and hospitality, that I feel like it’s a home away from home. Peter, Marni and Otis are so gracious, they welcome you at the door, and you instantly feel like you’re transported to a wine bar and eatery in Europe! There are a lot of regulars to come here from the neighborhood, and you feel like it’s becoming another Cheers, and it’s one of those places where there is a lot of great conversation ! This is a place for foodies, and you can tell such care is taken in the appetizers like the meatballs, the cauliflower and endive salad, as well as main courses, like the short ribs, which are to die for, as well as the salmon and branzino. They also have a superb, happy hour, or appetizers, or more affordable, and let me tell you, this is the place to be from 4 PM to 6 PM! You have to go here folks !!!!!!!

Our group of eight shared almost everything on the menu and all of the food was outstanding. The burrata and meatball appetizers, short ribs, mussels, tiramisu and pane cotta were my favorites. Service was very fine and though I am a beer drinker more than a wine lover, the pale ale was excellent! Highest recommendation.

The ownership and management here are awesome. This is a hidden gem. Friendly neighborhood restaurant with excellent food & drink. My wife and I just had the best Valentine’s dinner here and the owner gave us a dessert to go and kindly asked us to bring the glass bowl back in a few days (since we live in the area). The Purple Tongue definitely exceeds expectations.

What an amazing find! Freshest ingredients and the service was spectacular. Vegetarian frittata was full of tasty fresh veggies and the French toast with warmed maple syrup was divine. Attention to detail is superb. This will be a must anytime you’re in the city.

We stumbled on to this place after the theater. The food was great and the server was amazing...friendly and helpful. I recommend it even though its pricey. The special was chicken paillard topped with arugula and shaved parmesan. Loved it. And a dessert with berries and a kind of custard was delicious. Both were recommended by my wonderful server. Wish I knew her name. From Trinidad.

About last night… we rarely leave reviews or discuss about returning to the same restaurant. We are spoiled with the sea of restaurants NYC has to offer , but this Gem has won our hearts and we’ve already made reservations to return for brunch in a few days.Service was great , loved the vibe of the place from beginning to end. I fell in love with every dish, the pasta was definitely the star for me , reminded me of a dish I had in a Florence.Excellent wine menu. The owners were perfect hosts and can’t wait to return

At the end of our meal words such as nirvana were thrown around...If I were to solely describe the food itself that would be doing the establishment a disservice. On all fronts for a restaurant to be judged for The Purple Tongue would be coming up Aces.P.S.Order the Capellaci with bread on the side. Youll thank me later.
